Hey guys! Today I wanted to show you a Japanese take on a western dish - the burger! Today we’ll be making a Yakiniku or grilled beef burger with a RICE bun! It’s super easy!
00:00 Intro
00:28 Prepare Your Rice
01:16 Home-made Yakiniku Marinade
02:54 Home-made Mayonnaise
03:47 Preparing Rice Buns
04:59 Cooking the Yakiniku Meat
06:02 Let’s Eat!
Ingredients (for 2-3 burgers)
Rice bun:
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp mirin
- 450g rice
- 540ml water
(This actually made enough rice for 6 burgers but you can always freeze these rice buns)
- About 4-6tbsp of cornstarch (or potato starch)
Yakiniku:
- 200g thinly sliced beef
- ½ onion
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp mirin
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp vinegar
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- grated ginger and garlic (about one clove of garlic and the same amount of ginger)
- sprinkle of shichimi chili powder
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
Homemade Mayonnaise:
- 1 egg yolk
- 3g sugar
- 3g salt
- 1 tsp rice vinegar
- 100ml olive oil
Toppings:
- fresh lettuce
- sliced tomato
- fried egg!
How to Make:
- First start off by cooking your rice how you usually would (You can use my guide here: • Perfect Japanese Rice ... )
But since add 3 tbsp of soy sauce and 1 tbsp of mirin - this is 60ml of liquid so reduce the amount of water by 60ml (540ml in this case)
- While the rice is cooking prepare the marinade for the meat, mix tbsp of soy sauce, 1 tbsp mirin, 2 tbsp honey (this will mix easier if you microwave it for a few seconds), 1 tsp vinegar, 2 tsp sesame oil, grated ginger and garlic, a few sprinkles of shichimi chili powder and 1 tbsp of sesame seeds
- Add 200g of thinly sliced beef and ½ of a sliced onion - let marinate for at least 30 minutes or over night
- For home-made mayonnaise mix 1 egg yolk, 3g sugar, 3g salt and 1 tsp rice vinegar into a bowl and mix - gradually add 100ml of olive oil one tablespoon at a time and mix - your mayonnaise should become nice and thick
- Once your rice has cooked, add 3 tbsp of cornstarch and mix well so that it coats most of your rice - you may want to add a few more tbsps dependant on you much rice you cooked
- Line a small bowl with plastic wrap and measure 80g of rice, wrap up and form into a circle shape - do this until you run out of rice
- Heat some olive oil over a medium-high heat, fry your rice buns until they start to turn a nice golden brown on each side and set aside
- Cook your marinated meat over medium-high for 3-5 minutes until cooked through and set aside
- Assemble your Yakiniku Rice Burger with your bun, home-made mayo, yakiniku beef and optionally a fried egg, lettuce and sliced tomato! - Навчання та стиль
These types of burger got popular in Japan because of MOS burger 🍔🍔- have you guys ever had Japanese fast food before? What's your favorite?
Sukiya and Coco Ichiban were my favorites.
I loved MOS burger. I think they had some black sesame buns when I went
Unfortunately where I live Japanese cuisine is almost non existant....Japan is on my bucket list for a food adventure
I loved the teriyaki burger from MOS Burger! Had them a couple of times when I was in Japan, just for a snack! I'm sorry Champ but that is no mayo :D
Man I bloody love Yakiniku. The onions infuse the juices of the meat with so much flavour. Never tried a rice bun before! That's actually genius 😛
Maybe add it to the secret menu of your ramen shop!
@@ChampsJapaneseKitchen Would love to see Champ pay a visit to Chris's Ramen Shop for a special Abroad in Japan x Champ's Japanese Kitchen crossover.
@Josiah Galicia I'd imagine if you look at the channel style, Chris is likely helping them develop their channel, which is great.
Hey Champ, I'm about to go into my senior years of high school, trying out to pursue my dream of being a cook. I've taken notes from your videos and so far there are visible improvements.
Thank you for that, and I hope you enjoy making your videos and not just be a burden one day.
I love making videos but I love teaching you guys even more! I am so glad my videos help you, ganbare!
I would love to see a weekly live cooking show where you teach Chris how to cook during his journey to get fit. And another where you teach Connor how to box so he can join the creator clash next year and dominate.
Hopefully I will be able to teach Chris some healthy recipes soon!
Adding a fried egg on on top makes almost anything tastier!
I planned to go to a Yakiniku-Restaurant in the future today, and then Champ posted a recipe for it. Champ has got some higher power in seeing my thoughts.
The Universe wants you to eat Yakiniku
Burb... That was a good one :) Rice buns were easy to make and a fun change to bread! ありがとうございました
This is mouthwatering, super unique dish you don't see a lot of people in the West talk about. The egg and beef looks so beautiful, and the vegetables look so fresh!
My husband just made this, fallowing you every step. It is so yummy! Loving all your recepice. The gydon and tonkatsu is our all time favoriete
Thank you Chris for all of your wonderful recipes. I have made multiple recipes from you, and they are always a crowd pleaser.
"There is no japanese secret to fry an egg" says while making the perfect medamayaki...
That looks absolutely delicious! Thanks for another fantastic video Champ!
From the USA 🇺🇸
If Iron Chef came back... you'd be all over the competition!
Excellent stuff as always, champ!
I definitely want this when I get the chance. What I love about your videos is the recipes aren’t too complicated and when they are a bit complex they’re well explained.
Thank you for the great videos.
yummy Amazing outcome :o
That looks absolutely delicious, I love making Yakiniku And can’t wait to try it hamburger style! Keep up the good work champ!!
Yesterday I used this recipe to make yakinikudon. It was delicious. Thanks for sharing.
Definitely gonna give this a try
Another great recipe Champ! I will try this out on my cast iron griddle that I have on my back porch. Looking forward to tasting! Keep it up Champ!
I've never had yakiniku, but now I want to try making it
The rice buns look super cool, i have to give this a try!
This was awesome I am going to try this
Not too thrilled about the rice bun, but will definetly make some yakiniku sandwiches, this type of meat is just so juicy and tasty, thanks for the idea!
I feel like Ryosuke and Danny Trejo should do a collaboration! Two former world champion boxers cooking up a feast sounds like a recipe for PERFECTION!
Never stop never stopping Champ
can't wait to make this later this week for dinner!
came here from a post chris made on facebook and i already like what i see
The burger looks delicious but knowing me I'll end up with yolk all over my clothes eating it. Same yakiniku with fried egg over cooked rice in a bowl ......yum
Yummy !
What type of dishes can the rice before you made it a bun go with? Looks great!!
that yolk quality is astonishing (mayo part)
Now THIS is a recipe I can get behind! JUNK FOOD JAPAN Approved. UMAI!
Arigatou! I knew you would like this recipe haha!
Love the content and the recipe Champ, i do think the mayo was a bit too runny, try adding the oil a bit slower and beating faster, unless that was the desired consistency in which case, perfect! Keep growing!
Thank you for this video, I had been looking for a rice burger recipe! I was wondering. Do you think a sheet of nori would help prevent it from becoming soggy, or is it firm enough as is?
Another yummy 🍔 dish from the champ 🥊
Champ, it would be nice to see how to make senbei. Your videos are so clear and descriptive!
Senbei! Sounds like a good challenge!
Thank you, now I have enough hunger to get my dinner burger XD
But this time I get mine just from a good burger shop nearby
Is there an alternative if I can't get mirin anywhere?
Hello Champ! Just wanted to know I LOVE your channel and your recipes! I'm learning a lot! As for this recipe, I think I'd enjoy just eating that beef over rice, without making the burger, just to keep things simple.
For your next dish, I think you should make the famous soup from Nagasaki: CHAMPON!
mmmm This looks so yummy :D
Notifaction gang
I didn't even get my notification yet I just randomly checked my inbox.
Luck gang
@@Neohampster It was fate! The burger was calling you!
Where can I find one of those ginger/garlic graters with the little brush to sweep of the grated veggies?
If you search "Oroshi" or ginger grater I think you will find something similar!
I watch your Chanel from India
How about yakisoba or takoyaki for your next video Ryosuke?
I know what's for dinner this week
The japanese secret to fried egg is Japan's very good quality eggs. Not available in North America though 😂
UMAI!!
Yay, one of my favourite dishes when i visited Japan :D thanks very much!
I ate that in Milan and it tastes beyond Gorgeous
This mayo is way, way too runny for me...
What does mirin taste like a lot of Japanese recipe uses mirin and I don't drink alcohol.. I want to make a substitute for mirin
Mirin is sweet. It cooks so you don't taste the alcohol.
Sugar can be substituted, although the taste may be a little less intense I guess
@@user-fv9pf2iw2z oh thank you!!
Champ ur the best and I love you but that was not mayonnaise. It must be mixed much harder and faster (get your mind out of the gutter) and it will become much more creamy and far less runny
You didn't make mayonnaise there is no emulsion :'( . I think you added your olive oil too fast, it's more of a drop by drop process.
The problem is whisking! U need 3000rpm blender to make easy mayonaise
@@kusukacolaylowlee1611 I make it by hand, but I don't add the oil with a big spoon. However you're right, whisking faster help a lot
I feel spoiled - this one was more than one recipe!
Well that mayo turned out terrible 😅 you didn't wisk it fast and long enough :/
The total water amount is incorrect. That is not enough to cook the rice.
In Japan we typically cook 150g of rice for 200ml of water - since there are 60ml of liquid ingredients we reduce the water in this recipe to 540ml
@@ChampsJapaneseKitchen By which method? What type of rice did you use? I actually tried this recipe using sushi rice. That amount of water and the rice was cooking hard like a biscuit. I'm an experienced cook by the way. I adjusted the water and other than that, the recipe tasted nice. Thank you.
Looks very good, but .... that's not a "burger." No patty, no burger. It's a chopped meat sandwich, NOT a burger.
It would be like calling a catfish po'boy sandwich "sushi." It just ain't.
I'm disappointed... this is rice burger that Korean are already made popular... should been put on a Japanese made hamburger buns suit it very well... as a fusion cook myself... disappointed 😞
