I’m in the audience for this! I was up in the balcony. Wall Of Voodoo was the opening act. From what I recall, it was sent out to college campuses where students could gather in the Student Union & watch with 3-D glasses. Sort of like a pay-per-view but before that was a thing. And it’s not a Beverly Hills audience, it was a citywide slice of LA new wave music fans, some dressed special for the evening.
Every album tour they did was so unique and original, it’s rare when you get a band that’s great in studio and probably even greater live! This was One of the best DEVO albums/tours
Around 2004 I was listening to NPR's "Echoes" with John Diliberto and he was interviewing Mark Mothersbaugh about his work on the Wes Anderson film "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou." They played some of the movie music, the Rugrats theme, and then they played the intro to "Uncontrollable Urge" and I found myself marveling at the tight sound of that track. Despite their tongue-in-cheek humor they were serious musicians.
I'll be damned. 40 years and 1 day later eating pizza, i suddenly remember devos love for independent productions...... and putting it on laser disc..... and his sorrow when laser disc fell from grace... I bet devo's eating up this VR/AR chit right now.... i said softly. i bet he's even did presentations in vr. and then i find myself stumbling upon this chit
Devo, live graphic video presentation, 1982. HEAD BLOWN!!!!! Great band. Had audience on sensory overload, like “what am I witnessing while my butterfly collar wants to fly away!” 😆
Im such a nerd for bands like DEVO and RUSH. They in fact have a quite a bit in common. Talented AF and super tight live just the way I like it. Plus they did it their own way and just didnt care what anyone thought.
I've seen DEVO live 5 times. There was never a tighter band. Alan Myers was a human metronome. Where did this air? Very surprised this got by the censors.
Where has this been hiding? It must have been buried in the center of a small moon in a titanium walled bunker ... 38 light-years away from our galaxy.
I've seen a couple versions of this concert, but I've never seen this re-edited version with totally unrelated actors/models cut into the second set. I guess all the 3-D effects totally failed in the original broadcast version so they doubled down on the failed technology and added even more of it!? Anything to keep that "3-D" in the title, I guess. The parts where Mark roasts the producers for being scam artists and the part where the video fell out of sync with the band are both removed, unsurprisingly. It's still great to see, though. Thanks for uploading it!
I was 14 when wip it came out. I have known nothing of them or had any of there music... wasn't interested. But now it's a real treat to have come to know there unique style and sound. I'm glad they didn't get too much exposure as it kept them in there formative state. Mark motherbaugh is a genious and a great front man.
I love that they do an intro as spuds! I remember seeing two videos and I don't know if they were clips from this show. But one was Peek a Boo and the other was Good Thing. I distinctly remember the devils laughing and the donut penetration and reaction from the model. I think it may have been on MTV or some music video show. I saw it once, and only once. I guess Devo was too much for T.V. at the time. Like making people think was a bad thing. Instead, they put Motley Crue in heavy rotation with their stupid sword play and burning pentagram. Go figure.
@@Multi_Purpose_Weirdo I was 12 when I bought CSNY 4-Way Street when it was new. It was my intro to all of them. I soon found that I liked the Neil part of the record best. You just gave me a likely other reason I like NY's music.
Where was this program first displayed? T.V.! Cable? Where and how was this whole spot 'pushed' or sponsored by?. From what I can gather, this was right around Halloween 82' And this was put together in swank, noses-in-the-air Beverly Hills? Pretty weird and totally different audience responses. In answering my own questions, this seems to be a Cable Special, fore no commercials to speak of
Yes, that reworking is just genius. In the style of their EZ Listening disc, with vocals restored. Throw in a little Good Bad & Ugly vibe. These guys never got bored, you can just hear it.
7:00 Okay, the cool thing about this recording is that I can finally hear the exact notes of the opening bass line to "Peek-a-boo" isolated from most other tracks, making it easier to transcribe if I need it.
Mrs Devo is swell, morning spuds are the staff of life, choppex diced onion, add your favorite swine parts, ,poultry ejectible hot sauce, caffeine, chilli peppers, , anti diareal med, hop beverage, toast, ....

cool story, thank you for sharing.
I was there too... I still have my little 3-D frisbee they were throwing into the audience. Wall of Voodoo was amazing. Percussion extraordinare!

Never got anything Kraftwerk did (maybe Autobahn kind of)...instantly got Devo. My brain has never processed music quite the same, for the better.
These guys were so far ahead of their time, I’m glad I was a teenager in the 80s and had these guys to trip out to
why don't you go check out their new album on UA-cam called something for everyone

What censors?
Having seen both, I can attest that Rush was this tight. Also, from video evidence, basically any band that backed up James Brown. But nobody else

DEVO, always sharp in performance and well ahead of the curve. Their songs are holding up to the test of time.
Thanks to David Bowie and Brian Eno for discover this band and give'em a chance to record their first album and start the DEVO's story...
Neil Young was also involved in helping spread the gospel of early Devo, which I found surprising!
