From the Album "Lift" I do not own this and I do not intend to infringe copyrights, I did not see this song on UA-cam and felt this album was worthy of discovery
I get it! That scratchy sound is from Stigmata martyr and I can hear the sound from the very beginning of Mask in here as well. I'm now hearing the Stigmata martyr bass line as well. Oddly enough the drums at the end sound like Kings of the wild frontier by Adam and the Ants!
What's funny is that sound the beginning keyboard tone from the beginning of Mask; at the same time, the Police's "Syncronicity 2" has a sample almost identical!
totally. the Bauhaus Resurrection tour followed this release shortly after, and the band knew some things then that we listeners then didn't. this song is like a magickal spell invoking the resurrection of Pete to follow
i didn't quite know the timing of things, but i always thought the song was written right after they had already decided to resurrect Bauhaus, & the lyric at the end "whatever possessed" was their asking: whatever possessed us to do such a stupid thing? hence the "Hex" ~ even though it was & continues to be a successful idea!
one of my fave songs from one of my fave bands and Lift is like their best album imo That being said, with this song all I can hear is RED ERECTION RED ERECTION RED ERECTION HEY!
Always liked this single from their self-title album. Just had the feeling of accumulated power, experience expressed, the ghost in the machine breaking free. Chants from the days of yore ecstatically culminating into a pandora's box release... "Deeper down": can the chain of internal evolution aspire for something higher? Inspiring music....
You posted this 9 years ago and now there is a sleeper reading this. My life is upside down and I am in a heavy state of numbness... this song IS a wake-up cry

I like that period they went in the tide and went with current and just took a ride where it took them. I respect that.
Their best song by far, completely underrated.
lolz
By far my favorite track on this album. If you want to buy this look on ebay it's typically under $2 cheers!
I could download it here
