Bringing in defensive help is one way to help change the dynamic, but there still needs to be changes made throughout the lineup, including the core. Toronto is extremely top heavy, and their stars have not been the same in the playoffs as they were in the regular season.
Determining who wears the C means almost nothing except when you do a rebuild and have to reveal the real leader of a young core, like Suzuki in Montréal. The other situations are mostly jersey selling or just to make a point, which is rarely good... doesn't show a good situation. Still i will say they did it clean unlike Thorthon with the Shark.
My hunch is that JT will re-sign for a much lower amount at the end of the season and this way he doesn't also have to give up the Captaincy at the same time. Overall I don't see it affecting their season (so another first round exit it is!!)
