@@lucalambo01it’s 690whp, so it has ~750 at the crank at best, it’s rwd plus it’s rear engined and doesn’t have a cardan shaft to have that much losses. The key to its speed is a very low curb weight

Go watch 720's launching on carwow etc where there is also an unprepared surface, they have to do all the work catching up AFTER the initial launch... I'm not saying anything about any other cars being able to be fast, just the 720 digging in like that was a surprise to see on a dusty, uneven air strip.
It’s absolutely mine boggling how the RWD 720s manages to put its power down, not only from a standstill but under acceleration, truly outstanding engineering from McLaren.

One of those cars is 15 years old lmao 😂. Nothing could launch2 like a GTR could back in 2007. It took McLaren, Lamborghini, Porsche ect... Multiple different chassis and models just to catch up. Weird flex to compare the two with almost 20 years between them let alone the price the weight the amount of seats front engine to mid engine like the list goes on
Lighter and way better modern DCT box. All GTRs are still using dinosaur version of DCT box since the Cayman 987 era.

ive been in the new 750s which is just bonkers compared to the 720s but not quite as nuts as the 765lt
Stage 2 ones go 3.5sec 100-200 kmh if hooked
If you look at the RWD results table the 900bhp and 1000bhp McLaren's or only a small amount faster than the stock one. Which I thought was quite interesting. The 1000bhp one basically has around +50% power over stock but the times are only improving on the 1/4 by a couple of tenths. Interesting.
@@stevenross-watt8640 it’s totally understandable, since you just can’t put all the power down with rwd on a non-prepped surface, that’s why those macs have benefits over a stock one only in rolling acceleration

I was rooting for the Bimmer from the beginning and is the car I would choose as my favorite out of that trio. The first few races were disappointing because I knew it should have done better, but it is what it is.
The McLaren is no joke! It's amazing how well it hooked on damp pavement and out-dragged the two AWD cars, albeit one was kinda handicapped, though. These races were weird but very entertaining!

I'm actually having trouble launch my M5 Comp which is around 800hp. It needs a transmission flash bc BMW limits the TQ off the jump to keep the trans and rods safe.@@michaelforest3332

The 720 has been a marvel of engineering since the day it landed! 4 to beat two all-wheel drive cars off the line is stupendous never mind the fact it's damp out there..... Just crazy! And every race I see a 720s in it seems as though mclaren has them tuned almost like a boost by gear cuz the faster they go..... The faster they go as evidenced by how he started pulling on the GTR in the mid-range. Definitely one of the all-time greats!

Mac hustled everyone. Stock they can run 690 wheel and dip into the 9s. Lower speed roll really helped the m5. Great racing.

holy moly the 720s is an engineering marvel, makes sense why it costs what it costs, you can hear the ecu managing traction during the run! Very impressive results all round, pity about the launch issues in the m5, extremely entertaining races Jamie you little biscuit!
Think if that M5 didn't jump all the roll races, the 720 would have taken the cake

That was not a jump, it was just M5 building boost almost instantly whereas others had a little turbolag. Must be the gearing ratios.

M5 driver was sandbagging all along
Races 3&4 the course is too wet and you hear the 720s sliding and wheel spinning in gears, although the M5 jumped in race 3. A mixture of poor conditions and jumping. It’s why the 720s was far faster 100-200 in 4.8s vs M5’s 5.6 which is a huge amount slower.

I'm so impressed with the 720, such a stable chassis even when losing traction, you could see Christian barely having to correct it. Awesome engineering from McLaren (as always)

The LEAST predictable set of races ever. I'm still trying to get my head round all the different results. Usually you can tell who is going to win after the first race but not this time. Crazy good viewing. The M5 came back out of nowhere and was so good on the roll races. McLaren losing a few yards at the beginning of the roll races whilst struggle for traction. That was just quality.
M5 jumped on every roll race though and they're absolutely not even leveled out before the race starts. Terrible
@@darren6589 it looked to me like the M5 crossed the finish line ahead of the others on some of the roll races.
The rain definitely started picking up during the roll races. If you watch again, you can hear the Mac’s traction control cutting and managing power more and more each subsequent roll race. On dry pavement, Mac will walk both of these cars at their current power ratings.
Haron must have set the record for the slowest acceleration of an F90 M5 ever filmed.
I barely thought it was possible to double the 0-60 of a stock M5 and end up with a 13.09 1/4 mile but here we are. 😆
That said - awesome races, and the GTR engine compartment looks solid.

Stock M5 is faster on the 1/4 mile but i think the gearbox needs a software for these power..
GTR needs transmission updated .. to turn up full boost max TQ etc .. if a 1000HP GTR can walk a Ferrari SF90 .. a 720s would be easy

With e ecu flash and downpipes they run 3.5 sec 100-200kmh , so it’s certainly stock, I saw even stock 720s’ doing 4,4-4.5 sec in better conditions
