  • M-Sport Ford World Rally Team test the new Ford Puma Rally1 Rally Car for the 2022 FIA World Rally Championship. Using a closed section of road in France the new WRC Ford Puma Rally1 car was given a full test at rally speed.
    The new Ford Puma WRC car by M-Sport is built to the new Rally1 WRC technical regulations for 2022. The rules use the current 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engines, but add a 134bhp hybrid electric motor, powered by a 3.9kWh battery. The cars will be run on sustainable fossil-free fuel.

    The WRC is the FIA World Rally Championship, a tough motorsport using rally cars on real roads around the world. Watch the best rally drivers battle on gravel and asphalt roads with mud, rain, dust, ice and heat! Watch high speed action as the rally drivers power slide and drift round narrow corners, go flat out over a big jump or through a watersplash, handbrake turn round a hairpin, survive a big moment, or have a massive crash! Rally requires maximum attack and careful tactics to become world rally champion.
    Each rally has timed sections called special stages, on closed roads. Drivers complete these stages as quickly as possible. A co-driver reads pace notes that explain the hazards ahead. Rally drivers use the same rally car to travel to each stage on public roads, following normal traffic regulations. The crew which completes all the stages in the shortest time is the rally winner. Championship points are won using the same scoring system as Formula 1. The championship is administered by Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), motorsport's world governing body.
    Over 30 countries have hosted WRC rallies. Rally Monte Carlo, Rally Argentina, Rally Finland, Rally Portugal, Tour de Corse on Corsica, France, Rally Sardegna on Sardinia, Italy, Safari Rally in Kenya, Acropolis Rally in Greece, Rally New Zealand, Rally Australia, Rally Japan, Rally GB, Rally Catalunya, Rallye Deutschland, Rally Mexico and many more.
    Some of the world's greatest drivers have won the FIA World Rally Championship for Drivers, like Colin McRae, Carlos Sainz, Walter Röhrl, Stig Blomqvist, Petter Solberg, Ott Tänak. The list of world rally champions includes many Finnish rally drivers like Juha Kankkunen, Tommi Mäkinen, Ari Vatanen, Marcus Grönholm, Hannu Mikkola. French drivers have had success with Sébastien Ogier, and 9 times world champion Sébastien Loeb. Famous drivers from other motorsports have come to try rally driving like Ken Block from Rallycross, and Robert Kubica and Kimi Räikkönen from F1.
    Car companies compete for the prestigious FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers awarded to the most successful WRC constructor. Winners include Citroen, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Peugeot. Ford have had success with the Ford Escort, Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta when the M-Sport team won in 2017.
    The 1980's featured the iconic Group B rally cars like the Lancia 037 and Delta S4, Peugeot 205 T16, MG Metro 6R4, Ford RS200 and Audi Quattro.
    Japan dominated the 1990s with the Mitsubishi Lancer, Subaru Impreza, and Toyota Celica and Toyota Corolla. Toyota returned to the WRC in 2017 with the Toyota Yaris WRC, winning in 2018. Hyundai won in 2019 and 2020 with the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. Find out about the latest winners and champions at www.wrc.com

    I like the idea of hybrid motorsports if the cars still sound good (although the real change for the environment would be transform all the daily use cars to hybrid or electric, not the used in motorsports).

      @@pa6719 I suppose your argument is that electricity power plants are highly polluting. If that is the case, *you are right* . But electricity can be generated by clean methods too.
      If your argument is that hybrid engines use fossil fuels and generate emissions anyway, *you are also right* . But hybridizing engines is still a step towards moving away from fossil fuels in favor of energies that are renewable and can be obtained by cleaner routes

    • @Charlie-oq4mk
      @Charlie-oq4mk 3 роки тому +6

      @@pa6719 Again you are right and i agree with you.
      The thing is that abandoning fossil fuels in an efficient way it's not something that our generation nor the next is going to see. So it's not an inmediate impact but a good way to start with little steps in the opposite direction.
      Just imagine how much it can improve when all the engineers and all the money are devoted to the research and development of better electricity-based motors and the ways to produce the energy.
      For example compare the way a car worked in the 40s, then compare it with the cars during the 80s and finally compare with the modern cars in the 2010s. Or just compare the old Diesel based motors and all their cons and difficulties with the modern Diesel motors that fixed a lot of their problems of the past.
      There are a lot of examples, but the idea is that periods of 50 years are enough for the engineers to improve a LOT the development of new motors and cars in general when they have the resources focused on it.

      @@Charlie-oq4mk I've argued many times , going full electric is all right , but planning to change every car to electric is insane , the demand will increase and would the grid be able to handle it ? To me , I always wondered why didn't they go straight to the source of the problem , the fuel itself. If you change it and implement it globally ,instead of waiting for years to see results, in less than 1 year you could literally see positive impacts around the world. I'm all for developing synthetics fuels, the convenience of filling and quickly getting back on the road is also a thing. I don't hate electric in any way, as a matter of fact , I'd like to own at least an electric car in the future , either PoleStar or Taycan, they do are fun in a way ngl.

    Was MGU-H (F1 tech) considered for use in 2022? Instead of putting in an electric motor to power the wheels and the heavy battery, MGU-H could keep the turbos spinning and save a lot of fuel. It would be more eco-friendly than an ALS. The cars would be lighter. I admit we might miss on the machine-gun ALS noises.

    • @philosaplease4867
      @philosaplease4867 3 роки тому

    • @gelchristop2355
      @gelchristop2355 2 роки тому

      Considering that even F1 wants to scrap the MGU-H because of the cost, it's unlikely we'll be seeing it in other motorsport. It's cool tech, but overcomplicated and most importantly it doesn't really apply to production cars, so the R&D will be a waste of money from the manufacturers' point of view.

    Group Rally1 cars are due to be introduced in time for the 2022 World Rally Championship season as a replacement for the World Rally Car which has been in place in various forms since 1997. The regulations, formed and approved by the existing WRC teams, were designed to ultimately reduce costs compared to the current 'WRC+' car and also reflect the growing trend of hybrid retail equivalent models. To help reduce costs, many parts will become standardised or removed from the current world rally car. The rules surrounding the manufacture of the chassis means Rally1 will be the first real break from consumer production cars in World Rallying since Groups B and S were abandoned in the 1980s.
    Group Rally1+ cars are due to be also introduced in time for the 2023 World Rally Championship season.
    The regulations, formed and approved more by the existing WRC teams, were designed to ultimately reduce more costs compared to the Rally1 cars. The rules are also surrounding of the manufacture of the chassis means Rally1+ will be the next big break from consumer production cars in World Rallying. Since the Groups B and S they were abandoned in the 1980s, Rally1+ will be introduced to the World Rally Championship starting in 2023 for the first time.
    Key new features will include:
    Allowing for scaling dimensions of the road going car
    Centrally developed 'spaceframe' roll cage structures to improve safety and costs
    Synthetic fuels, claimed to be renewable and sustainable[10]
    The addition of bolt-on hybrid power units centrally provided by Compact Dynamics, giving an additional 100 kw of power for rally1 up to 200 kw of power for rally1+ starting in 2022. Their use on special stages will be restricted by the FIA and/or rally organisers initially, as well as exclusively powering the vehicle around the service park and road sections.
    To reduce costs the cars will have:
    less complex suspension, common supplier to all teams
    a reduction from 6 to 5 speed gearboxes, in common with Rally2 cars including the removal of 'flappy-paddle' gear shifters
    removal of the active central differential
    ban on liquid cooled brakes
    simplified fuel tank shape.
    Championships
    The only competition designed for the Rally1 and Rally1+ is the flagship World Rally Championship series for elite drivers. The car may enter other individual rallies by the manufacturer teams but won't be a feature of any championships lower than the WRC.
    The cars will compete in the 2022 World Rally Championship season are:
    Ford Puma Rally1
    Toyota GR Yaris Rally1
    Hyundai i20N Rally1
    Volkswagen Polo GTI Rally1
    The cars will compete in two years time for the 2023 World Rally Championship season are:

    Hyundai i20N Rally1+
    Toyota GR Yaris Rally1+
    Fiat Argo Abarth Rally1+

      You are wrong. WRC cars at least the body shall and certain mounting points with a road car. The 2022 WRC cars are nothing but prototypes.

      Rally1 regs are aiming for all cars to run on synthetic fuel, rather than oil-based

      People are fucking hilarious. No sound, no good, blah blah... Meanwhile actual drivers are trying to get in the drivers seat of electrics, because they deliver 100% of their torque, 100% of the time, like no other powerplant can. ...Electric race cars are not quiet. They whine like a jet engine...
