- John Mayer, ThunderCat, David Ryan Harris, Steve Jordan and Zane Carney secret jam session at Hotel Cafe 3/20/2016
I stopped the recording at end of songs to make sure I get the saves. - Комедії
This is what I love about John. He is spontaneous and does this for music not for money. He is a fantastic player as well.
its true but not really valid here, he has enough anyways.
@@tipotheus. It's valid bro. He didn't sell his soul to make satanic music videos. Just pure musical magic.

@@santiagofernandez3823Whole video is a Jam/Improv
Jm freestyle, something else tho
I'd love to see a John Mayer studio album with some featured David Ryan Harris vocals, even if it's just harmonies and backing. Those two were a dream team live!
+Daniel Russell He is featured very faintly on 'Paper Doll' off of Paradise Valley. Apparently DRH doubled a lot of what John was doing vocally due to John being worried that his voice wasn't fully recovered. DRH is quite low in the mix though.
This here is why I am a BIG fan of John Mayer. He is an amazing talent that spans so many musical styles and tastes!
The MOST organic music I have heard since 1991.
What happened in 1991?
he was born that year i guess
Steve Jordan you are giving me the CHILLLLLLLS
+Grillarkatten Dude is the greatest ever
+wtbyguitar Definitely one of my all time favs!
+wtbyguitar According to Rolling Stone he's only the 80th best drummer of all time. Those idiots.
+Philip Callado Yeah Its ridiculous. These are the same people that named Bruce Springsteen The 15th greatest guitarest ever.
wtbyguitar Lololololololol.
This has got to be one of the most cool lineups in a jam
Love all the players in this group.. The differing guitar playing styles of JM and Zane really adds a lot to these jams... And Steve Jordan's immense groove holds it all together
+Ayethaw Tun AMEN!
This is so secret YT didn't recommend it to me for almost 5 years??!!
Incredibly rare getting to witness 4 incredible musicians on stage just jamming as if they're in their bedrooms. Really special stuff. Thanks for recording!
Anyone feel like if John Mayer found a producer that helped capture his live spontaneity and energy onto record, he would be known as a completely different artist. I wish he would record with Rick Rubin
Or Tony Visconti
I think as long as Steve J is involved the records will be dope. Guy brings out the groove in JM.
+thchruan Yes! And indeed Bill, Steve is so majestic
I feel like while his songwriting is phenomenal, he overthinks his production to the point that he tames it too much.
Absolutely. He needs a strict producer who dares to say no to him.
John Mayer is in the same league of the IMMORTALS like beck-page-schon-lukather-rodgers-iommi-santana-summers-van halen-hendrix-gilmour etc...
Love to see Steve's playin his snare! I play his snare and it's great! 👍
+Patrick Wickett It was the house bass kick drum, and stands. He brought his own snare and high hat and ride cymbal.
+scott lee Cool brotha
+Patrick Wickett I wish they would put it back into production
mayer and thundercat on the same stage? i can rest in peace now.
Same.
I know right! freakin amazing. Steve Jordan and thundercat's groove is so tight.
This proves the DEFINITION of MUSIC. In all of our faces.
Man his opening licks to his solo were just so pure
The lick at 24:45 is a perfect example of no barriers whatsoever between the exact sonic statement in your heart and mind and your ability to produce it with your hands through the guitar. Beautiful.
I can’t believe I was watching this five years ago and I didn’t know who Thundercat was
31:50 i absolutely love when he gets into those sexy, rhythmic playing zones.
Woah, Pino has put on a lot of weight
Best comment I've seen ever
lmao. classic
he's got a bit of a tan aswell
😂😂
He also got shorter
Damn, John's singing is at the top of his career in this! So much better technique than early in his career. Like butter! R&B is kinder on it than blues too. Amazing!
My John singing R&B style.. OMG I loved this
I've watched this video a lot of times, and I just now realized around the 48 minutes John takes the whammy bar off and uses it as a slide, I can't believe I didn't see that lol.
Jonathan Irreño i recognized that as well but didn't notice what or where it came from I'm like where th f did that come from lol
For a white boy from Connecticut John Mayer has the soul of a black blues singer in a 1920's New Orleans jazz bar.
Everyday Struggles this comment gives me life
22:12 Ain’t no Sunshine singed by David Ryan Harris. Great!
Thank your very much for this, scott lee!! This is pure gold!! Amazing stuff!!!
Oh my gosh this was pretty gosh darn mid-blowing., Danke, danke, danke, Scott.
This is gold!!!! Scott Lee tks so much for this
Johnny Boy #1 guitarist currently imo. Thank you brotha for being the Dead’s music back to life
Love John and David's chemistry. I always loved their harmonies and how they play off one another's voices and styles.
Thanks Scott Lee for uploading. This is the best live or recorded upload on UA-cam. Awesome.
The show was incredible, but whenever DRH got on stage, I feel like it all got that much better!
AHHH!!! YES!! Thank you Scott Lee. This was absolutely phenomenal and I am so glad I found it. Thundercat is fantastic. Never knew of him until this.
Sweet! Thanks for capturing this for the internet world. I always enjoy some new JM!!
i am really glad and thankful that this was recorded in video. tremendous
This is rocking, what a groove, thanks for your efforts recording and posting 😀 band are cooking 😀
this jam is a gift I feel blessed, my favorite musicians in the same room just displaying the raw skill.
This is like a dream come true! I just love the rawness of throwing notes at a blank canvas with no accord, this is art.
Great ,Great performance!! loved their taste, camaraderie and music. Thanks for sharing!!
This is absolutely sick! I needed to hit pause for a minute and get my breath back.
scott lee, thank you so much...so very much! this is gold on gold! PS - Zane Carney is on stage also, to ThunderCat's left!
this video is pure gold thanx a lot !!
Wow....! Jazzy-Blues-Funk. Awesome! Looking forward the new Album... ;)
This needs to be a band! Permanently! Possibly some of the coolest musicians ever assembled.
What a lineup! So cool he still does these surprise appearances
17:20 is my favorite part...such good improvisation
WayToBlu best one out of improvisation

I gotta say! First off thank you so much to the uploader for documenting this excellence, I watched the whole thing in one sitting! I'm a huge fan of all the musicians involved and the whole loose impov setting was perfect. Now I'm laughing to myself with all the comments about Zane's playing, I have been a little jazz and fusion crazy the past 3 years and if you showed this video to me before that period I wouldn't have understood any of his playing, I diddn't understand any jazz or fusion once I stumbled onto it and then my ears became used to it after awhile and competley broadened my understandings and appreciation of music. I couldn't hear anything that was off-putting, and everyone's entitled to their own opinion, mine is that everything in this show was incredible! One for the books y'all, right here.
maybe my favorite mayer performance, and that is really really saying something. It's just such pure music! the soul is just flowing out of all 4 of them!
I'm glad this jam happened, and so grateful it was posted.. hot to death. thank you
The people who dislike this are those people who have no ears
Man, this video is gold! I guess they didn't recorded this session.. Thanks for posting it! Cheers!
lucky to go to this show you are thundercat Jordan and Mayer are all real musicians this is definitely a musicians show!
David Ryan Harris has some pretty great solo songs himself. Glad to see John back in action, can't wait for a new album/EP/tour, just anything!
Love that run on 25:20-25:26! Awesome rhythm and some classy pentatonic licks at the right mood!
Thanks for posting this
John's singing has never sounded better at 12 minute mark. That falsetto...wow! So smooth
Jesus, this is literally solid gold.
Damn, I would have paid good money to have been at this jam. Steve is drum groove perfection and I try to be more like him everyday. Thanks fur sharing this video. Oh my god. A positive comment.......can you believe it?
Thanks for the upload!
What a beast of a session!...I love john mayer but I never knew he had this in him daaang!!
sooo dope. wish i was there! thanks for sharing.
Holy shit ! What a live ! JM is wouawwwwwwww ! Others , Amazingggg ! !! This is true music !! I’ll watch this again and again to learn all i can of JM skills !!
This guy is just amazing!
This is what REAL musicians can do when inspired and feeling good! Shit is magic
Insane how modal the guys are playing! Also really awesome to see John playing on a "Boutique Strat" like a Suhr. He is getting some great "Jeff Beck" tones with that thing!
+Johanna Rubio. I am very impressed with your comment. Extremely attractive!
Is that a Suhr? Had never heard of them before seeing this clip and your post / I'm guessing only heavy players can spot the difference both on stage or if they were playing one...thing is probably sick. JM is all about the "look closer and see what makes it unique / only some will recognize it" Which is cool.
+Johanna Rubio With all respect , your comment is so hot !!!
+mario boggero 😊 well thank you sir. Just picked up a lil something from my husband who plays and is a fan of John. Don't know much more than that 😉
Thats really cool , your husband is a very lucky man. Take care !!
As Maverick can say : it’s not the guitar (or the sound ) , it’s the guitarist ! Thank you JM to exist !
Thundercat has such awesome bass licks.
this is amazing.
Man John is a beautiful musician....i always loved his writing, voicings on guitar, insane rhythm and sense of meter and time. In the beginning I found his lead playing was too SRV derivative , but he has really evolved passed that and become an inspired lead player...well done John...thank you for making me cry and sweat and wanting to pick up the guitar again!
SAME. Not sure why there isn't an album of his just coffee shop improv jams. Frankly I like them more than most of his albums.
love the beginning 5-10min or so...make that into a song or at least an intro to a song John! Keep up all the awesomeness that you're doing!
Wow and wow. More please!
This is GOLD!!
so glad to see steve and john jamin again
Amazing!
Jesus this is gold. First jams seems to have some Dead and Co influence. Damn!
So pure.......
DRH voice is outstanding
This, ladies and gentlemen, is a jam session.
Cool jam. Nice combination.
JM and DRH join forces again!
The solo ...30:50 to 33:40!!II listened almost 50x time! Its more than master
He's added so much jazz to his style over the last 5 years. He used to be primarily blues. But he uses a wide variety of styles. He gets better and more diverse every year. Not many musicians are like that past their 20's.
guillaume gauthier that's why he's got Isaiah Sharkey on the team now.
Gross generalisations.....
this is so good, well, hate to say it, but this is way way better than John's latest studio album. for a guitarist, John sings so well, amazing.
That's the idea.... give you a small teaser taste with a new studio album, and John records partially developed songs for sale. You like what you hear, then you get smart, and go pay up to see John Mayer play live.... and that's when you REALLY hear the song get fully developed with some jamming thrown in. Then you are hooked on the artist.
Nice grab!!! What a treat! Thanks
The melodic insanity at 33:14 is the most enjoyable thing I’ve ever heard.
ONE CAN NEVER EVER LET GO TO FORGET IT MAN.....
Incredible.
That 9 min mark- the bass lines and switches in tempo and melody until John does his up tempo free style. Nice.
Ok, now we need a new CD of all them together ;D
Glad to see John playing a suhr. Great axes man
+Erebus5620 wow lol. good eyes. how can you even tell? genuinely curious. i just assumed it was a Fender
the headstock is the dead giveaway. and on top of that suhr's tend have a little bit more play in tremolo and that I've seen a ton of Suhr's in that color... not a lot of fenders though.
+91thebossman they have a differently shaped headstock
91thebossman how can you not tell? If u play guitar u know most of the brands and fender makes pink strats as well. Just not alot of guys are huge fans of pink.
Nice to see an impromptu jam session!!
David is gifted with that voice man damn
AMAZING
THIS IS F***ING AMAZING!
Fk yea. This is the kind of music we need right now.
The start of it is amazing thx for uploading & recording the entire thing ! Was Pino not playing during this since thundercat was on bass
and the thundercat Jordan vibe is unfuckwitable cause Jordan has that deep developed maturity in his pocket of groove
So good
Just found out this is Mateus Asato's guitar! Like he handed it to John Mayer before the jam! Amazing!
He said in an interview mateus' playing made him buy a MA signature suhr, still pretty cool !
That's awesome as well. But I have the information that Asato was watching this gig at the Hotel Cafe and asked Mayer to play his guitar. Lets check that info hehehe
This is beyond cool. Pink Suhr is kind of killer... Wish I had Zane's skill set/job!
I knew John was back with trio for album , but didn't know about this hidden gem ?!?!
