Remember when the parking brake used to be usable as an emergency brake? Back when people realized the idea was to have the most foolproof, purely mechanical design possible so there's very little that can go wrong with it.
exactly, and now older mechanical handbrakes have to work or cops take your plates and you fail MOT in Finland, i mean it has to be as powerful as the normal brakes so you can drive. Now new cars only beep if you loose brakes and try to use electric handbrake....
I prefer a good old mechanical handbrake all day. The same goes for keys. A good old flip-key is a lot better than that keyless-nonsense. Because it also means you have a conventional steering lock - making it a lot harder to steal it. But it gets even worse: Now you can buy cars that are unlocked with your phone. So if somebody steals your phone - they can take your car along - and the insurance won't pay because of your negligence. Over here in Germany, many keyless cars get stolen by somebody with a big antenna who reads your keyless-key from outside your house. Most people keep their keys near the door - and houses are a lot smaller over here. Then they start it - and drive it over the Autobahn straight to Eastern Europe where they gut it for parts. BMW and Audi are their favorites. Easy to steal - expensive parts. Luckily, my 2006 Ford Focus ST hasn't such nonsense. They're quite rare here (albeit a lot better in many regards than the very popular mk5 VW Golf GTI) - and basically never get stolen. The later RS is a different thing. Highly valued - good ones going for 30,000€ - and, you guessed it - keyless. If you want to keep it - lock it to a lantern post with a bike chain.

Matt, have nothing but love for you, your crew, and what you guys do. You guys are awesome. Which makes what I am about to say painful: This issue you have with keeping your gas tanks full and carrying Jerry-cans? You might want to see a doctor about that. I think Rudy said it best, “Sorry we’re incompetent and immature.” 👍😉😊❤️
Usually if I’m ever frustrated, I watch your guys videos and it definitely calms me down and clears my mind thank you guys for the awesome videos 🤙🏼
Gotta love those safety pour gas cans 😂 they’re ridiculous!
Only the government could ruin a gas can.
Fortunately, they sell retrofit kits, to turn them into something useable.
You can buy "water" can kits with a regular nozzle and vent you drill a hole for
I had one of these awful cans pressurize in the heat of my garage and basically explode flooding my garage with fuel last month . It was pretty hot in my garage but it was odd to say the least
I removed the so called "no spill" devices from my spout and it works much better.
+1 for Jaymie saving the day! Matt and Rudy, you might want to add sleeping bags to your nighttime recovery gear...just in case Jaymie turns off her phone before turning in.
OK, I literally laughed out loud when they discovered the best way to use the safety nozzle on the gas can...
Yep, same :D
Me too, been there done that. I didn't even bother with buying new nozzles I just bought two large gas funnels with different dimensions for each vehicle/mower/tiller etc. Funnels worked great for me I just hope hope I'm not violating any EPA regs. (HA,HA)
Those scepter gas cans are total garbage. Metal cans like just rite are best. Best budget can midwest industries.
@@petepeterson7230 hello

@@doghouse916 Agreed, I used one yesterday and it was a giant pain in the ass.

@@dw6062 Mate, calm your tits. I hate modern day woke-culture as well, but your comment makes no sense nor is it inaccurate.
Glad Tucker commented on the plates, I was wondering if he was keyframing every video
The license plate covered are genius! Such a good idea to cut down on edits for Tucker. Didn’t even realize they were actual covers at first.
You need some "Matt's Off Road Recovery" branded jerry cans on the back. Maybe one with water for emergencies...
And a basic set of tools
@@donabb3878 .....and an extra pair of pants for Matt.
A BIG 👍🏻 for who came up with the plate covers !

Saw y'all at the cache valley cruise in and got eyes on the Morrvair. Wow. That is an even more impressive machine in person. Such a cool rig. Didn't say hi because you were busy taking pictures with a bunch of other people. Must be wild becoming UA-cam famous.
Keep up the great content. It's One of my favorite ways to kick back and unwind.
Looks like Matt needs to rethink the fuel cell tank for a regular tank with a fuel pump wick sleeve. 😎👍
After it being it atleast your 4th time running out of gas, maybe it's time to put some gas cans on your rig lol
Perfect opportunity to open up a 2nd youtube channel called Rudy and Jamie's On-Road Recovery
Jeez, I've been driving around without my license plate covered this whole time...
Yeah I am confused, my license plates have been seen by thousands of people over the years, but we need to cover it on a video. 🤪
I suspect that in this case, it's because many of these cars are rentals, and it's possible that people sign waivers to say they won't offroad the vehicles when they rent them.
Aside from that, vehicle cloning is a real thing - yes I realize that your license plate is visible when you drive down the street, but you would have to be physically seen by the person looking for your exact car to clone.
Depending on the plans for the Morvair, I wonder if incorporating a swing out tiregate to fit a spare tire, small toolkit and 2x 5 gallon Jerry cans may be a good option for it?
C'mon, Matt thinking ahead and being prepared? Since he's in a poor cell signal area so often he needs something much more practical... like a "Bat Signal Light" to shine on the clouds that says "Outa Gas Again -HELP" lol
I never thought I'd see a ford aerostar van from the 90s on here! 😂🤙🏽

It's amazing they only look at the fuel gage when it nearing empty. And I've always wondered why they don't care extra fuel with them. After watching this video I understand why. I love this channel. Great good people being real.
@@darronfletcher1297 I watched the whole video. I didn't see any reason why. Seems like that would be a standard equipment for a recovery vehicle.
He doesn't carry a spare tire either. It's all about the weight savings when going into the dunes. Except 4 adults in the car, that's fine. Don't argue with Matt's logic.

The electronic parking brake on my wife's Hyundai Palisade sets if the car senses an incline and is shifted to park, that may be part of the thing.
My wife’s Toyota locks the parking brake if you open the door and try to creep forward or backward, like you do sometimes off-road looking under the car. Reeeeally annoying.
@@kovu159 the Compass will do that too

It's a new Jeep compass, that's what's wrong with it!
They're amazing offroad (for what they are). Just gotta know what to do...
They are good as long as the electronic stuff is working. Sadly they have stunningly poor electronics. I would never feel comfortable going far out in one. They are crap.
They named it a compass because that's all the trail equipment you get .
Don't even come with a compass in it
@@pinkyfloyd9906 yes it does, that just shows everyone like you hates on a car you have no knowledge of
Nah, the new Trailhawk is pretty good. The old compasses SUCKED . I've owned the 2wd 2008 compass and the 2018 4wd Trailhawk compass. Huge difference !
That said , my 2016 trailhawk Cherokee is MUCH better than the 2018 trailhawk compass. If you're going to be doing a lot of highway driving , the mpg difference won't matter much. If you're in the city constantly and you never get on the interstate, maybe get the compass for the gas $. But .. seriously.... Night and day difference in build quality.... I'd rather have my 2016 Cherokee Trailhawk than my wife's 2018 compass Trailhawk... And they were about the same amount of money.
So yeah... I'm on my 4th 2.4 litre jeep. I had a 2wd 2015 2.4 patriot also. The 2015 patriot is very solid.... Zero issues... Just don't get one with rear drum brakes !!! Dear God !!! Other than. That.... No issues.....
Half the entertainment of this channel is seeing how unprepared they are on a daily basis. I love it!

Hello
How are you doing
I've had customer cars that slam into park and put the electric parking brake on if your door isnt shut 100%. Sometimes they will let you back out into traffic then do it when you start driving forward. By far the stupidest thing ever
Those Jeeps do that, One of the main reasons I got rid of my damn 20 Cherokee, if your going over 3 mph with door open it engages parking brake on you. Much happier with my F150 lol.
@@ChiefsFireman if you have your seat belt on the parking brake won’t engage.
My daughter wanted one of those 2020 Cherokees, so we helped her get one, her first vehicle. She was pulling out of our driveway, as she was putting her seatbelt on, didn't get it fastened fast enough, and it "just froze" (her words). The front bumper got grazed by a box truck. Well, that was IT for that hunk of trash, it was never driven again by anyone in my family, it was towed back to Chrysler, and I stopped payments, didn't care about any ramifications as that was totally unacceptable in the name of safety! She is now the proud owner of a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500. Never a fun moment for a father to get "that" call and to go running outside and see a box truck against the vehicle with your daughter with her seatbelt on balling her eyes out in fear of what happened
@@mattcat231 I’m just wondering how the car stopping caused your daughter to crash? If anything it would prevent a crash because the brakes locked.
@@mattcat231 the car stopping is a safety feature, and it only stops if the driver door is open AND the driver seat belt is unlocked. If the door and the seatbelt aren’t closed and secure then the car shouldn’t be moving correct? No offense but that seems to be driver error not the car
RE: license plate covers. Make them green and put funny stuff in there in editing =)
green doesn't really work that well because plants exist. better make it bright pink or something
Good thing you've fixed the gas issue now. No more needing to be recovered yourself.

Jaymie is such a trooper! I would never hear the end of that! LOL
I would like to thank California and the EPA for the great idea on the gas cans.
They are completely unusable. I purchase old school hoses for them.
Hey Matt !
I think it's time to do something about the fuel capacity of the moorvair.
It makes you look bad to be running out of gas with a recovery vehicle.
I don't know what the frick it is why he refuses to mount a couple of fuel cans, a spare tire, a shovel, and a cell signal booster to his "professional" recovery vehicle, but I'm almost done watching this clown show. I put out less effort getting people unstuck than he does, and I do it for a hobby, without a winch.
Genius idea on the license plate covers! That man/woman deserves a raise!

@@javabeanz8549 there's an upside to this if you fill up your lawn mower in a different spot around your lawn eventually u won't have to mow anymore 😉
@@devongader9171 LoL! I fill on the gravel driveway to avoid that situation. Worse though is trying to refill the chainsaw while out in the woods.
I think most people feel the same way about the compliant gas cans
How to use a new gas can:
1: ensure spout is tight, then tighten further because it is leaking
2: flip the locking switch
3: push button
4: dispense gas at a trickle while both holding the button down and supporting the can
5: spill gas everywhere
6: rip the whole apparatus off and use a funnel so all the gas goes where it is supposed to in a timely manner
I gues the Morvaire needs a good fuel meter.
