Oh hell yeah, love me some Vdub content, it must be a SoCal thing. So many memories working on VWs and cruising around the beach and down to Baja.
Thanks! 😎
Those front mud guards. Are gunna look fantastic.
I cruised my Harley when I was in high school up and down PCH from Malibu the San Clemente back in 1976.
One thing I have learned learned from Ian is just to take chances with fab and not over think it.
Difference is Ian can get himself out of a big hole unlike me
Ian, may I just thank you for proving you can be calm, polite, not having (faked) arguments and dramas with staff / suppliers, and create a fantastic tv series. You're such a breath of fresh air, and I can't help feeling you should live down here in Oz, where most people are not like the drama queens portrayed in other similar US shows... As for your approach and results .. just fabulous skills.
I absolutely love when Ian has a beetle bug on his mind. The things he comes up with are so rad. Let's go!!!
l had a 75' type 1 bug w/ the 1835cc/dual carb/headers set-up. l drove it from Dallas Tx to Ushuaia Argentina and back in the early 80s w/o much issue. We went thru tires and one belt. lt would cruise 90mph all day and run cool. My friend still has it on its 3rd belly pan w/ 350+k on odometer and on the motor l bought and swapped out built by Doug at Qualitat VW Dallas when the car was almost new.
The Green illustration you showed as inspiration. I think if you go back and look at it, they may have used a A model windshield assembly but I believe the top and back of the top are VW Van rear top section looking at the shape and drip molding.....
Ian, I like your work! In 71 I did a 66 VW and the most standout and noticed modification was I ran the exhaust back under the trans axle and out in front of the rear wheels. the Wide crager"s and flared fenders and nerf bars etc. helped! JP in Oregon.
When the world gets stressful, I watch one of your episodes. Your skills in metal and philosophy on art and life are like a zen thing. ✌️
i can see it in my mind and it looks cool.!! I think the trunk/hood should be stretched to the ground with those fenders awesome🤩👍
Guys, it's great to see another Bug in the shop. I love the envisioning process of putting parts on or next to the car and see how they look. Thanks for all of the great work. We know it's not easy to do everything that you do for us. Jamie the video and editing works gets better with each episode. Build on!
The 68 I had was a “stick shift /automatic”. There was two tanks under the rear fenders, one was a ATF reservoir and the other a vacuum tank. The vacuum tank was connected to the intake, under the carb and provided vacuum to the tank.
My Ghia had the same transmission .. it was the same ✌️
VW called them non ironically the “AutoStick”
Volkswagens are my favorite cars. I’ve on 269 bugs a 62 bug and I previously own a 1970 type three square back.
Love this project ! Before you tear the engine apart pull a valve cover and see if you have a dropped valve .
So glad to see that top come back. This car should look really cool when it's all done even though the top was looking good on what it started to be on. But what a great decision to take it off and save it for the next one
Epic, very interesting, i love how Ian say's ''check this out'' and just starts pulling parts out of the corners lol..
🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@fullcustomIan Aladdin's Cave of cool Car parts..😉
I’ve always liked VWs for their practicality and how easy they are to keep going. You give up some creature comforts, but you can have a couple spare engines on hand and customize to your hearts content. I can see how so many people got hooked.
That picture is cool 😎 of that VW Model A-ish drawing.
Let’s get cutting! Tear it up and put it back together, Ian style, excited to see how it turns out
As a bug lover and owner of a 67, I am excited to see this project! Put all other projects on hold!
I love your show name's got a good mind I love what it built and his different Vehicles he builds I've been watching him for 7 years and I love his style
#3 exhaust valve. Having that under drive crank pulley was a bad idea, heat killed the valve guide. There was barely enough cooling for stock HP. It’s got an alternator, wonder if the fan shroud/oil cooler is late model?
Slamming that and chopping 6'' will make for a great sedan delivery. The slots make the package come together. Maybe a roof rack with some cool design would keep it utilitarian. Thanks for sharing and keep on making cool content.
I really liked the look of that roof on the yellow car, glad to see you're going to use it on this build.enjoing the videos in Virginia!!
Hi guys, big fan for years, keep em comin y’all!!🚗🇺🇸🤘🏽🔧👽
My first car was a 67 bus. I love that era vwss...
Can’t wait to see how this one trims out. You build next level cars.
Looks like you’re going to have a fun time with this new project. I’ll be watching.
Here in Brazil, the Fitipaldi brothers coupled 2 engines in a VW from that time making a V8 racing car, it's history, and it would be cool to see it work... It's on UA-cam...
It’s always a great time learning / watching people / you, work
Love the thought process. Ian says this would be good and you just know it will be. Great new project.
That kit was also called the Wizard, now you can do your magic with it !
This big is gonna be rad! Glad the delivery roof came back.
I have learnt so much from Ian, he is a master of his art in fabrication of anything automotive. I just wish I had a shed to work in and let My hands and knowledge become one.😔
I’m liking the plan for this one, the only thing I don’t know about is how the hell Ian manages to keep all these idea’s separated in his head. As he says he’s got like three different projects floating around in his mind at all times. Not sure if I’d be able to keep things straight in my head but that’s ok it’s not my build. Jamie as always great anticipation for the placement of the camera, you’re doing something I’m not sure I could and thats being in synch with the creative genius’ thought process as he’s planning it out. That’s not an easy task. Can’t wait to see this one start and Ian’s vision come to fruition
Thank you! 👽👽
I am excited to watch this build
Looking at the Model A fender you may have a problem getting it to clear the door. Maybe using the back part of the VW fender matched to the front of the A fender?
You guys are the best and one and only hang in there ! And ignore the haters and negativity
Going to be great build 👍
Love me some interesting bug bug watching 😍
V Dubs Rule!!! I had a bunch of them. Looks like this is gonna be Badass!!👍👍
I'm looking forward to this bug build!
In the late 80's i raised the rear end in a datsun 510. That thing was low but the rear tires had almost a perfect contact patch, barely leaning in at the top. It also had the same flares that the race teams used (like 3" on all 4 corners). It was a total beater with no power but i hardly had to slow down for any corner. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
Might be interesting to extend the wheelbase on this project. Maybe make a 30's style long nose like that on a La Salle or Duesenberg.
This bug is gonna be awesome Ian!
Totally dig the vibe! 🔧🤘🏽🇺🇸🚗
Man! That thing is gonna be awesome. Looking forward to see how its gooing to change. COOL !
it's good to see you taking a break from little jewel and going for some much needed " instant gratification " :)
I am so looking forward to seeing this build Ian. I love Volks Rods.
Back in the day when I was in college I had a 64 bug I used to deliver pizza in it. When the starter went while I saved up to install a new one I just roll started it by giving it a little push and dropping it into first.
Can't wait to see where this one goes
I’m not a V W guy. But I like what Ian has in mind and his vw builds.
Can’t wait to see what it looks like finished
Can't wait for this one to unfold.
Can't wait, more please...
Great project and great job Jamie on the video and sound.
That bug is going to be spectacular!
Love the way you think outside the box. You keep me motivated to finish my 66 C10 I’ve been working on now for about 7 years. Has a 5.9 Cummins turbo under the hood. Not a show truck but just a fun driver. Keep showing us how it’s done.
Great looking 68, one of the few years I've never owned. It could be a dropped valve would not be surprised if it's not the number 3 cylinder.
“Will it be something weird like everything else I do” says the artist. Kinetic sculpture at it’s finest.
Love watching you create. Thanks for giving us a glimpse inside your cranial cavity.
Love the imagineering process you go through and Really love that you share it with us on these videos. My 1st car was a 76 Bug, w/ a messed up fuel injection system, but i installed Cal-look 1 piece windows in it, shaved door handles/trim, smooth running boards and some other bolt-on customizations before selling it to someone that finished it, converting it to dual carbs.
Woo Hoo! Another VW project. Ian's blood type has gotta be "VW Positive". I like y'all having three projects going on at same time, it keeps things always interesting.
Thank you!
We ❤ little jewel! Don’t forget her.
Never!!! Ian has some radical ideas coming soon with her! Stay tuned!
can't wait to see this project get underway
Ian, I'm 75 and have been playing with cars since I was in my early 20s. I've done some bad bodywork, some really excellent wrenching, and a number of renovations (not restorations). I've have a 65 Healey 3000 BJ8 that I renovated but which has deteriorated over the 40 years to rust bucket status. I also have (among my 14 vehicles) a 71 E-type Series II roadster which was wrecked in 1971 by the original owner with 14K miles that I rebuilt back to the firewall but due to marriage, children, and time has also reverted to rust bucket tub status. Watching your show on TV and your You Tube stream, with your insouciant approach to ripping stuff up to make it useful after transformation, you have inspired me. With my 2500 square foot shop and assorted tools, including welders, I'm going to rip into my 2 classics and turn them back into driving dreams. Failure is not an option. Thank you, young man!!!
when I see that year beetle I automatically think that would make a good trike or dune buggy
Thanks Just love your out look and art in life ! You both made my day ! Straight Ahead ✌😎
Another great video. Can’t wait to see the finished product
Model A , VW delivery Van .... sounds like a great plan 👍
Another reason I look forward to your videos!
Some how I missed this the first round. So glad I found it. Thanks for sharing.
Welcome!
Love the concept of the vw. Someone had one on the Samba a while back that resembled a hearse. Was really cool and I regret not trying to purchase it. Chose to sink $$$$ into my bay window. Love your projects. Keep on keeping on.
It may be a 68 body on a 67 pan. The tag behind the spare has numbers that should match the pan numbers
Wow, I can't remember the last time I found myself smiling throughout the whole of a car video. As an Artist, I find creativity (the flow of) to be such a hot button, a turn on if you will... That when someone is able to communicate their grand/unique/odd visions and it fully forms in my cranial space (making my inner child do zoomies and scream "Yes, Good, What Else You Got!") I get excited. Thanks for the creativity boner Ian, Salute you I do!
I am so jazzed that you are working on a VW! And that it has the wide 5 as a '68 is pretty cool (I always thought the '67 was the best, but this could be even better!). Your ideas for the bug are great and includes some things that I want to do with my Type 3. So I will be watching with anticipation as you continue with this build!
Love watchin you create magic in the vehicles you build sure like to see more on TV
Filming new episodes of FCG now! Motortrend will air in the winter!
I've never been into "VW Beetles" before but after watching Ian's other projects & shows I'm beginning to come around to the Bug now & looking forward to see how this Car has been transformed 👍👍👍
I would like to see a hing on the doors like your 30s chevy you did back in the past
Great to see a bug in the shop Ian. Can't wait to see more videos soon on this project and see what it comes out looking like. Can't wait to see more videos soon. would love to see hand painted signage on it. where the side window would have been like a old delivery van or shop truck. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Fab On. Weld On. Keep Making. God Bless.
It's amazing we all had a bug inthe golden years. Great to see that they are still being fabricated into something special.
I have enjoyed Ian's TV show and am excited to see this UA-cam series. Buckle up and Hold on for a Wild ride
Back to the bug's 😈🤘 no limit...
No limits ever!
Project sounds awesome. Hope to see some elaborate paint work in the end to match the vibe and modifications. Can’t enough of the oranges, yellows, browns , and sparkles
Guna love this build
Looking forward to the VW build.
Retired truck driver been through Mojave many many times. Love watching your TV show. But really digging this. Happy you have your lovely wife working with you.
Should have finished this around windshield and doors, and made a ragtop snap on, so essentially it would always be an open top
Under the back seat on top of the tunnel should be the chassis number. If it’s starts with 118 it’s a 68… 🎉🎉
I've been watching you for a few years now on TV and now on UA-cam. I love how easy you make everything look.
Now that I am a subscriber I won't have to hunt for you next episode. Keep up the great work. Joe
Awesome! Thank you!
@ian Ian I accidentally came across yr show full custom garage and the first time I watched u I was blown away with yr talent I remember trying to get my grandma to watch u and the first time she didn't want to watch yr show the second time she watched yr show and she asked me where is ians employees and I said its just him and the shop inspector and she loves yr show Ian Ian u are my inspiration my dream is to get a big garage and build cars by myself I have aspgers its related to autism I'm 26 years old from NC and me and grandma love yr show and my grandma said u can build anything u are one of a kind
Hi to both of you! Welcome to our youtube channel! 😎😎
More bug stuff! More wild art! Love this real life channel. So cool keep it up!
The great thing about the projects Ian is working on is the total mystery and surprise... YAY 😁🙌
Let's just say predictability and certainty are rare commodities here! 🎉❤
Exactly!! 😎
Thought about this the other day. Has a build owner ever called you with the heartbreaking news that the build has been wrecked and need you to fix it. Full custom auto body I guess you could say.
This is SO awesome. I HATE waiting for the next season of FCG to come out. Thank you Ian & Jamie for putting this content out there for us.
Dittoes X 50.
I love this VW series ‼️
What do you think about cutting the length of the fiberglass top in half and sliding it forward to make a coupe type top for the bug? I think the upright back window would be cool, not seen on your average bug. Maybe make the top removable kind of like the old Vettes or T-Birds. Just thinking out loud on my end. I love air cooled VW's, the world's best car idea.
Sitting watching this when the spacejunkie 1.5 rebuild comes on TV and I don't know which to watch first...😅😅😅
I always wanted to adopt the back end of a pt cruiser to the front of a vw bug, this reminds me of what I was thinking of building. I was going to call it a PT Bugger.
From one VW guy to another, cannot wait to see the work ensue! Love the channel, man. Much respect from Texas🤘🤘
Awesome! Thank you!
Love what you do I have skills but Ian has shown me that there is no limits 😊
Very true!
I'm thinking 70s van with the crazy side windows an killer paint job and custom interior 😮
One of my favorite family photos is not people but all 5 of our VW bugs
