Absolutely lovely vehicle and very much impressed with he quality of the review. There are a few niggles that potential buyers will need to know such as the half size glove compartment due to the position of the fuse box, the absence of a false floor so the load lip makes those wishing to load large objects considerably more challenging, the previous generation 6-speed auto compared to the new 8-speed employed in Europe and a few other odds and ends.
SA car buyers have no imagination. Even back in 2010 when I looked at the Corsa D and Polo, the 1.4 Corsa at the time was better than a 1.6 Polo - yet people buy Polo. My previous car was a Peugeot 407 coupe and I am now in a 1.6t Astra, I think the PSA take over was the best thing that could happen to Opel.
I have a feeling the Opel brand will be pulled out from our SA shelves within the next few years due to declining sales. The Opel brand is not what it used to be unfortunately as our local market changed dramatically with lots of new competiion and they just could not keep up. Problem with most car companies in South Africa except for Toyota and VW is marketing. You will never see an advert on TV of other car manufacturers. Dealerships locations also play a big role. You get VW and Toyota dealerships even in small towns whereas you hardly get dealerships of other car manufacturers except in major cities. They are plain stupid or ignorant. The last issue is that you can't buy cars online in South Africa for most car manufacturers except for BMW which has a fully fledged online store. Last one UA-cam reviews ars fairly new in South Africa which also is a problem..... Most people don't buy car magazines.
The Crossland X is a success and the Grandland X is not doing as poorly either the Corsa will keep the boat afloat but the game changer will be the Mokka II. Stellantis have Peugeot, Opel, Citroen, Alfa, FIAT, Maserati and JEEP ...if there was some culling to take place I doubt Opel would be the first in line, they are turning Opel around and I think with the brand history in SA it's going to be difficult to just erase it like that. If anything that is the brand they'd want to invest heavily in.
Honestly for this type of money i will look at the Suzuki Vitara 1.6 GL 5MT 2WD Price R310 900. You get much more car and it is not a bad car for its money. No it is not a top spec model BUT size matters here. Both the Polo and Opel is considered a "Family car" by many but not all. That said, purely on price alone the Suzuki Vitara 1.6 is the car i would look at.
We do have some of the exterior trim. We have the top Corsa at home with a black roof and black rims. I say it's clearly better looking than the others in the class.
Another shot on the foot by Opel Marketing, Peugeot and Citroen suffer from the same poor Management who are clueless when it comes to marketing the brand...we care about the specifics of the car but South Africans care a lot about how a car looks so the one with the contrasting roof should've been used for this review, this is an advert afterall.
I've never been a big Open fan tbh but this looks really good. Seems to be really good value for money against other competitors in the market at the moment. Well done Opel (and/or Peugeot)! I'm interested to see how/when we get new Clio in SA though...
Renault won't be releasing the new clio. I went to the dealership to go and get one and they said they not releasing the new Clio because of declining sales.
@@reabe10 stop lying...the new clio and Renault Captur will be launched this year in SA...the declining sales of the current clio are largely due to the fact that it has aged.

Great review but with a retail in excess of R300k why not just get a preowned top spec astra once! Or perhaps if you want power go get a GTI polo or Golf that will be in mint condition but you’ll pay for insurance and risk higher. At this price what would I choose? Definitely the fiesta !👍🏿back up is everything and corsa only has 5 kw more at 91
Nice car, I wish u can also mention the leg rom area fir the drive. Something I noticed in the vw polo vivos the pedals are hanging a bit high from the floor especially the accelerator where u hv to keep yo foot on most of the time while driving. U can imagine how rxhausting ut is to have your feet in the air in a 3 hr trip. Probably am sploit by the accelerator pedal in the old golf 5 which allows me to relax my right foot while driving. Something small like that can make a driving experience bit unpleasuroable...
One of the reasons why I went for the mazda 2. Read my comment on the video to see the other reasons why. But I agree. I do like a turbo if it is on a performance car when you want it, but not on a small engine car to replace a bigger engine. In a small engine car you need it the moment the wheels turn. On a performance car you have it when you want it.
The infrastructure is a problem. Imagine owning one and preparing for a trip from JHB to Cape Town...not possible at all...next plausible step for us would be hybrids I think.
Thank the Pope!! It’s different!! So sick of all these brilliant polo’s (yawn) and spectacular fiesta’s more like siesta) This Corsa is terribly looking in red, but I’m glad kept watching and ‘someone‘ told me, there just may be other color options to choose from. Thanks for the great review. Makes me happy that Opel is back from the shadows... we in desperate need of opinions to choose from
Polo is definitely the better car, with this car having everything french it means expensive parts with long wait times for parts to arrive. And as far as I know only the top of the range Corsa is turbocharged, the lower spec models have 1.2 NA engines that are much slower, so do the lower level models really compete with what the Polo and Fiesta offer? In my opinion only this top of the range model offers a bit of competition. But this is SA and we love our VW's so it isn't really that much competition now is it.
@@qoako9695 I'll be honest, I am a VW fan and I do drive a 2018 Polo Comfortline. I drove the previous gen 2017 Corsa before getting the Polo and I definitely prefer the Polo
I've driven the previous Polo TSI for 3 years, and I'd go back to Polo if I had to. Though reliability became a problem as soon as it crossed the 60,000 km mark. But it's a good car overall.
I'm wondering how the manual naturally asperated engine is, and if the EV version is coming to South Africa. I would take the Corsa and the Fiesta. The one I would drive most, seeing that my household picks the car they want to exclusively drive, I'll end up with the Fiesta and the only other driver will snatch the Corsa even before driving either. The range of the EV that is at about 210miles (head calculation, 336km), test revealing a range of 190miles (304km), more then enough range for a working week drives and short stint drives from Cape Town to Worcester and back without needing to stop for a charge.

Ford South Africa shot themselves in the foot by dropping the Fiesta Ambiente and Fiesta ST. Hopefully they offer more models locally when the Fiesta is facelifted. I have a Polo 1.0 Tsi at the moment and its quite rubbish.
The Fiesta was quite good. Where they failed, is the latest iteration isn't dynamic enough in looks and is still based on the old platform, so it's smaller than the Polo. Fiestas were also much cheaper than Polos until a few years ago. They will slowly die in SA.
I use to own the old Corsa, the previous model. It just annoyed me. The petrol gauge was never accurate, I struggled to fill a full tank of fuel because of air pockets, the cluster had so much reflection that I could not even see the gauges and so much road noise. Wonder if all that is improved on this model?
Being a vehicle technician, working on cars for a living, I can tell you I don't have much faith in these new 3 cylinder turbo cars... Who can forget what an absolute failure the Uno turbo was? And Peugeot? The last good vehicle they built was the 404 in the 70's
@@LeboLotus. Go for something like a Toyota, or the latest line up of Suzuki cars. I personally never buy new, as you lose too much money that way. Buy a Toyota for half it's original cost after say 5 years, but the car most probably still have way way more than 5 years left in it. When you buy new, you have to bear the depreciation costs.
I bought the previous Corsa brand new in 2015. It came with 85 kW from a 1.0 Turbo. The car was perfect for the first 2 years, then the trouble started. Intermittent boost issues. Car constantly going into limp mode and the Opel technicians were useless in finding the fault. Eventually one day the car didn't start. Engine ended up being replaced under warranty. I sold the car before the warranty expired. Will never buy a Turbo Opel again

If this car 🚗 had a VW badge, it would sell like hot cakes. It's the badge we buy. Don't believe me, how about Suzuki's gone Toyota!?🙊🙉🙈
Thankfully I grew up in the 80s and 90s and know just how s....t that VW is.
Lol that's true.... it has been a decade trend
I'll just upgrade to this Corsa from the one I have... I love it💪
I've never been a big Open fan tbh but this looks really good.
@@reabe10 Nooooo 😭😭😭😭
@@reabe10 stop lying...the new clio and Renault Captur will be launched this year in SA...the declining sales of the current clio are largely due to the fact that it has aged.
@@reabe10 I've realised that people at the dealership will either know true information but are'nt allowed to divulge until official or in most cases are extremely ignorant and are out of touch with the brand they are pushing, I see their website says it's launching...but I can understand the excuse, it makes sense...I think the 208 is not coming for the same reason.
Ford Fiesta for me, it’s not that common, reasonable insurance premiums , has an excellent infortainment system with CarPlay and Android Auto , very fun to drive and has a 4 year service plan and warranty....
Im an Opel fan and grew up at home having Opel Records and Opel Monza. I myself having bought Opel Corsa Utility Sport and Opel Tigra which i still own. I love the New Corsa and id buy one if there was one option for South Africa, and that is.,The Corsa e. The electric Corsa. Owning a hybrid car currently i see a huge benefit in owning an electric vehicle as an early adopter and Corsa electric would be my choice. Can they please bring that one to South Africa 🙏🏽
I hope they bring the Corsa e to SA as well.
How is this car going to fair in the future? 100k+ kms?
I'd love to buy this car, but i'm concerned about the reliability.
Three cylinder wow! I'm still bit shaken that it's 1.2 and yet I see two tail pipes or the other one is fake?🤔
Great review but with a retail in excess of R300k why not just get a preowned top spec astra once! Or perhaps if you want power go get a GTI polo or Golf that will be in mint condition but you’ll pay for insurance and risk higher. At this price what would I choose? Definitely the fiesta !👍🏿back up is everything and corsa only has 5 kw more at 91
R274K for the entry level. If I had +R300K to spend on a car I'd definitely buy a new car with a service plan and a warranty.
Had 2001 corsa and i still love the brand
Nice car, I wish u can also mention the leg rom area fir the drive. Something I noticed in the vw polo vivos the pedals are hanging a bit high from the floor especially the accelerator where u hv to keep yo foot on most of the time while driving. U can imagine how rxhausting ut is to have your feet in the air in a 3 hr trip. Probably am sploit by the accelerator pedal in the old golf 5 which allows me to relax my right foot while driving. Something small like that can make a driving experience bit unpleasuroable...
Argh, those bloody small turbo motors. I still prefer a normaly aspirated engine. So much less to go wrong 😬
Agreed. They all give trouble really early. Like with
@@rnburley LOL...obviously you don't have a clue of what you are talking about so you'd rather lie.
Will it's sister the new Peugeot 208 join us as well in SA.
Yes. It will arrive soon.
Do you think the electric version will come to South Africa ?
**Eskom is shaking**
@@rushilkisoon 🤣
@@lebogangmale4466 The price of electric cars is too much at the moment wait until the competition begins eventually they will fall
By looks the current EVs we have aren't performing well, those that seem to picking are hybrid but they're too pricey
The infrastructure is a problem. Imagine owning one and preparing for a trip from JHB to Cape Town...not possible at all...next plausible step for us would be hybrids I think.
Thank the Pope!! It’s different!!
So sick of all these brilliant polo’s (yawn) and spectacular fiesta’s more like siesta)
This Corsa is terribly looking in red, but I’m glad kept watching and ‘someone‘ told me, there just may be other color options to choose from.
Spoken like a true fanboy.
@@qoako9695 I'll be honest, I am a VW fan and I do drive a 2018 Polo Comfortline. I drove the previous gen 2017 Corsa before getting the Polo and I definitely prefer the Polo
Corsa, good power and safety
I've driven the previous Polo TSI for 3 years, and I'd go back to Polo if I had to. Though reliability became a problem as soon as it crossed the 60,000 km mark. But it's a good car overall.
U should try a fiesta. Wow in a curvy road 😍 u throw it and it responds.
60 000 KM! That is nothing! How can you say its a good car if its engine started giving trouble so early?
Was inside the corsa 2022 today really great, the sales guy says Opel bought Peugeot
I love this car... Best rival for Polo
Not really
No it's not
@@elhaddad3435 how so?
@@NgolaNalane reason being?
@@moshekidanielkwakwa408 Simply cause it's not gonna sell very well. Even though the polo is dangerous to have people still buy it anyway. People are literally risking their lives to have a polo and they don't care.
Besides the Clio sells better than the corsa
Im patiently waiting for the new renault clio release in mzansi, its the only hatch that has got it all
Please cover the facelifted suzuki ignis
Good review, still going to buy a Polo.
If you could pick between the 1.2T corsa Edition and Baleno GL, what would you pick and why?
I would wait for the 208, same as this car but has style, in the meantime the fiester is my fave
Hi man.
The corsa is literally a Peugeot 208 but cheaper. Gearbox, brakes, engine, seats (standard), rear view mirror are from a Peugeot 208. I own a opel corsa for 8 months Now. It's a good car it's even quicker then a Ford fiesta
When did the these type of cars become so much expensive? Tjooo 🙆🏾♀️🙆🏾♀️🙆🏾♀️🙆🏾♀️
I love the new Ford Fiesta. It the best car ever and amazing value for money. Ford Fiesta all the way 🎉🎉🎉
The "BEST" car ever?
You must have pretty low standards..
I'm just wondering abit how easy it would be to get parts for this car since its not a French manufacturerd vehicle
how about the Toyzukie..no one is complaining..
That's the first time I've heard someone call Peugeot as Pio-joe.
Can I just say how beautiful that steering wheel is
I use to own the old Corsa, the previous model. It just annoyed me. The petrol gauge was never accurate, I struggled to fill a full tank of fuel because of air pockets, the cluster had so much reflection that I could not even see the gauges and so much road noise. Wonder if all that is improved on this model?
My money is on Ford Fiesta in this segment. Though I agree that this Corsa seems to be good solid quality
This car looks better than the polo nice clean body lines , and im a vw fan
Being a vehicle technician, working on cars for a living, I can tell you I don't have much faith in these new 3 cylinder turbo cars...
Who can forget what an absolute failure the Uno turbo was?
And Peugeot? The last good vehicle they built was the 404 in the 70's
Either, you must be smoking that new stuff they harvest off plasma screens or you are a lying pos mechanic.
So which entry level car would you recommend? Something fuel efficient, moderately specd and most importantly easy to maintain.
@@LeboLotus. Go for something like a Toyota, or the latest line up of Suzuki cars.
I personally never buy new, as you lose too much money that way.
Buy a Toyota for half it's original cost after say 5 years, but the car most probably still have way way more than 5 years left in it.
When you buy new, you have to bear the depreciation costs.
my lanie always a pleasure having u in our presennce😂🤣🙌🏼👌🏽❤️🇿🇦💯😎
I bought the previous Corsa brand new in 2015. It came with 85 kW from a 1.0 Turbo. The car was perfect for the first 2 years, then the trouble started. Intermittent boost issues. Car constantly going into limp mode and the Opel technicians were useless in finding the fault. Eventually one day the car didn't start. Engine ended up being replaced under warranty. I sold the car before the warranty expired. Will never buy a Turbo Opel again
Sounds like a typical Stellantis disaster story
good alternative to a polo
what gearbox is in the cars that would be nice to know
Man this car is beautiful!
If the new 208 isnt arriving in SA anytime soon, if i lived there, i wud definitely take this over other aging models. But they definitely could have been it more aggressive.
Will it hold its value
That intro was great. I was wondering why there is a new Opel when GM left the country. My mind has been updated and blown.
You should review the Wahl beard trimmer next. 🤣
Opel was bought by Peugeot
Opel is now owned by Stellantis, a conglomeration between Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat, Chrysler, etc.
Thanks guy. Ciro also says this in his presentation. That is a good thing. Opel is a good brand.
Great review Ciro, but unfortunately I won’t buy this car or any other new Opel, I will for sure buy a OPC J. From a 200ts owner I’m very disappointed Opel
Too bad.
Tossup between the polo and the Corsa, think I'll go Corsa just because it's diff and I do like the look
that dash is the same here in Britain! but will say top range british cars have better wheels and look far more sporty with black roofs!! we also pay a lot lot more pounds for them the one i just ordered ultimate 130auto in hot red with a black roof 29,609 pounds what that is in rand id be scared to calculate!! i did it 612,530 a lot of money!!
It's interesting you mentioned the Peugeot 208. I was about to comment asking if you've done a review
I have a corsa prior to this one and there has never been problem with backseat room that is said with 1.96m people riding along... So not an accurate statement saying that has been fixed
The VW Polo is quite famous in SA, that's why its so expensive
You mean infamous for crime...
Because its a good car, I won't lie the Germans are on to something plus you can modify it
@@balancedperspective8253 No it's not because it's a better car, just demand and religion.
Polos are overpriced, but only because the other brands which aren't as good, have stopped being good value for money. Hyundai i20 which was once a top seller is a good case in point.
@@zeed5764 I used to think the same then I actually bought one and felt how the handling and why people liked them Hyundai is like Huawei and Vw is your iPhone until you own one you won't understand what's the attachment to the brand
Not bad at all. Was skeptical about it being a PSA car, but looks like it still retains the German quality. Doesn't match the Polo in terms of looks though.
I am buying this car by the end of July 2021✨
I think the real question is: When are we seeing the review of the Bajaj?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi Ciro, please review the 2021 Golf R next. It has been trending on the inter web :)
Hey, He already has a review on the Golf 7.5 R review, if you are talking about the Golf 8 R, The Golf 8 will only launch in SA in late this year
@@projectoverdrive342 most likely next year they still need to launch and push the GTI
I wanted a Polo, and then boom a Opel Corsa ad..its God's plan. I want this car😭😭😭😭
The Ford Fiesta has the best warranty and service plan of the lot 🎉🎉🎉🎉
But it will break down the fastest
What about the KIA Rio?
So I guess the new Peugeot 208, when it lands in SA, will be the premium version of this new Corsa range?!
I've seen nicer looking versions on the road with black roofs, it's the color that makes it look mundane.
Been waiting for this one!!!!!
Wonder if this version of the Opel will also have engine problems 🤔😅
I have serious hate towards GM after owning a Corsa D. That thing made my life a living hell. Expensive parts, breaks every week. Mechanics at GM couldn't locate why my accelerator would just stop working. Had to sell it. GM quality isn't worth your money. Peugeot huh? To everyone wanting to buy this at least wait for the facelift
This car's engine was launched with the 308 in 2014, on the same platform as the Peugeot 208 I ...what more testing do you want?
Peugeot + Opel mechanicals = no reliability + no parts availability 😂
Your laugh reminds me of buddy the Toyota boxer for some reason.
Looking at this car immediately made me wonder about the OPC version.. I wonder what it will look like.
This car is good looking and i like it's uniqueness, fact that it has more power and its not that much popular like a polo. I own a vw polo vivo gp 2017 model and i feel like i never bought a brand new car because of its popularity. The only thing i enjoy about my polo is that "its a penty dropper", beside that its f*ckn boring
Opel was known for being strong and making strong cars, Peugeot has always been known for being rubbish and expensive to fix , Opel being part of Peugeot was the biggest mistake ever made
Mmmm love the fiesta but would not mind having that opel
Your app needs to be updated as the back key doesn't always work.
It's the best selling car in the UK.
