fire bug sucks so bad defensively but it actually kills a whole lotta things. Thats why once volcarona gets boosts it just obliterates everything stab fire bug is not easy to wall at all
@@andre-8420fire bug isn’t that good offensively. Fire sure yeah fire is strong offensively and defensively ( even if it’s not the best at either or even the second best balanced type fairy and water are both stronger but fire is still pretty good) in particular being able to hit steel and resist fairy are two very powerful traits. Bug doesn’t hit anything fire is. It’s very common to ditch bug stab for other moves like giga drain which hits waters and rocks hard. The only real thing fire bug is good at is bullying grass types and yeah sure volc quad resisting serp basically forced it to run hp rock or risk auto losing at times but that happens a lot to serp that It just enables the opponent to setup on it endlessly because they can handle its lead storms even at +6. Magcargo is a limbless, gastropod mollusk Pokémon consisting almost entirely of bright red magma. Its oval eyes are large and yellow with small pupils and extend upward from its head. It has a bulbous snout and a wide mouth, with two drops of magma dangling from each side of its upper jaw. Magcargo's back is protected by a gray, spherical shell composed of hardened, but brittle magma, forming irregular lumps and plates. Marcargo can store fire energy in its shell. A streak of fire leaks from the side of its shell. Magcargo's lower body is amorphous and covered in bubbles of magma. Magcargo's internal body temperature can reach over 18,000 °F (10,000 °C), causing it to evaporate water on contact. Flames circulate throughout its body, occasionally spouting through cracks in its shell. While its shell is brittle enough to be shattered with a slight touch, Magcargo can reform its body by dipping itself in magma. It can be found in mountainous regions and has been living in volcano craters for tens of thousands of years. According to one folklore, when the wild Marcargo population suddenly increases, it's a sign that a volcano eruption is coming.
When you realize the Pokédex claims Magcargo evaporates water on contact, but in practice Water evaporates Magcargo on contact (x4 weakness). I think Magcargo having an ability making it immune to the Water type would've been fun. It's probably not enough to make it competitively viable, but it'd be a fun nod to the Pokédex entries that state this, and would at least take away one of Magcargo's x4 weaknesses.
Tyranitar type is a fun case of its not good but its perfect for what it is. Its def one of the darks made against Psychic, (and it being rock MIGHT be in part because the dominant type in gen 1 is Normal) and as time goes on almost everything good about Ttar have to do with what those two type offers. Dark stab spam, Pursuit, Sandstorm spdef boost all will be missing from Ttars toolset had it didnt have that specific type combo I think Celebi is hurt by generational transition too. Its typing feels really good in g3
U turn and more powerful bug pokemon being introduced just ruined Celebi. Dark typing becoming more and more menacing over time did not help either. Weather metas also murder Celebi bc it has trouble with both sun teams (oof auch fire) and water/hail (oof auch ice beam everywhere). I dont think its just a case of power creep shutting Celebi out, the actual issue is that the new metas tended to hit Celebi's weak points incidentally

I'd argue Glimmora's typing doesn't matter. Since its typically a suicide lead, once it gets hazards, it's done its job. In fact, it's probably better that it has a 4x weakness to ground and has no immunities bc it makes ppl want to EQ and use (usually physical) priority if needed, which gets up a T-spike.

Magnezone is a pokemon with a glaring weakness to ground as well as other common types, but it continues to be used as an important trapper for teams. In gen 5 OU Magnezone even runs weather clear through Sunny Day to boost HP Fire, while being weak to Fire itself, in the generation of Fighting Types no less.
I saw a comment on another video stating that Tyranitar was able to bypass its bad tying for a while due to STAB Pursuit letting it lock down its good matchups, and now that Pursuit is gone it actually has to stand up to its switch-ins. On a different note, Hisuian Arcanine was able to overcome its flawed Fire / Rock typing in VGC, winning something like five or six Regulation E tournaments with its combo of Intimidate, STAB Rock Slide, STAB Flare Blitz, and Extreme Speed. Arguably the best pokémon in that format.
What’s super interesting about Volcarona is that its typing has some *really* specific important resistances and neutralities. It resists Bug, it’s neutral to Ground and Fire, and it resists Fairy, Fighting and Steel. It has some really bad weaknesses but some REALLY good, very specific resistances that are incredibly powerful.
Once Volc learned how to put on boots, ppl were able to put its 65 base defense to use to deal with the 181 base attack Kartana. Also, don't forget its Ice resistance letting it check Kyurem of all things. Same idea with Ttar. Yeah it has a lot of weaknesses but who else besides maybe Heatran was able to consistently switch in on and threaten the Latis, Talonflame in gen 6, Blacephalon, and Naganadel (when it was legal)?
I really appreciate gen 1 dragonite, if it didn't hve a 4x blizzard weakness it'd already be a menace, but the fact that it'd probably be normal type if gamefreak didn't add the dragon type just for its evolution line sounds like a warcrime (yes, gen 1 dragonite with stab wrap, body slam and hyper beam and with no 4x weaknessess, very fun and balanced)
Rock/Ground pokemon like Rhyperior also I feel fit this concept. Offensively ground and rock stab is amazing but it houses so many weaknesses to common types.
Gen 8 vgc specific answer here but coalossal was the best case example for dynamax as a whole. Where it has an ability that required it to he hit by a x4 move to work at all. So it needed the bonus hp from the mechanic and being doubles am so you could side hit to proc it, stack with weakness policy so you're now both fast and strong. And he was the only pokemon besides the kanto starters to receive the broken residual damage gmax move. By far the best a pokemon with the truly awful rock/fire typing has ever been in the history of competitive pokemon.
Fun fact. Tyranitar actually has the best typing it can have, as Sand Stream does NOT grant immunity to sandstorm, meaning if it terastalizes away from Rock, Ground, or Steel, it’s hurt by its own weather. Additionally, if it terastalizes into anything other than Dark, it opens itself up to Prankster. Combined, if it terastalizes into any of the other 14 types, it immediately gets ground down by its own sandstorm and opened up to Prankster, meaning it effectively cannot make use of the gimmick of generation 9.
Tyranitar rlly is a fallen Tyranirex. Good in the past but being the Apex predator in many OU generations he failes to adapt to the changing environment like the tyrannosaurus of which its based after.
Amazing content as always Mr Cool. I am once again here asking for your support with the under appreciated Pokemon Raichu. His struggles and oppression continue to be ignored by the greater populace. Thank you for your time.
Falinks and Aggron are sending their High amounts of Horsepower (I can confirm, I am both an Aggron Advocate and a Friend of Falinks) Arceus bless Magcargo
My favourite great pokemon with horrible typing has to be Swampert. "But Swamperts typing is great!" i hear you say, and you'd be right but what many people don't know is that Swampert has dyslexia.
I’m honestly feeling that the horse council saga is going to take a game of thrones esque twist, where magcargo gets brutally defeated and killed in the civil war
One of the worst typings is the Rock/Steel dual type, which lends itself to 2 different x4 weaknesses. Of this typing is the horse-adjacent Stakataka, who has strong legs, has the same body shape as a horse, learns high horsepower, and even lets people ride on it if they manage to stay on. I pray this message finds you well, as Old Money has intercepted my previous warning about the aforementioned horse-usurper. I suspect that the HorseMoney coalition has something to gain from letting Stakataka run free despite its outrage of Magcargo being indicted into the horse council before it. Please, take care.
GF forgot how to balance over the years and this resulted in Caly-S, Zacian, Urshifu, Rillaboom, Gholdengo, Kingambit, and much more pokemon being busted to the core. Thank you
Maybe a more subtle effect (or not really a problem): but I find it interesting how certain Pokemon in Gen 3 OU manage to be solid, even though their STAB does not match their Special Attack/Attack state. I think Gengar is the best example of this, but a less known example is Entei-way less powerful before the Special Split.
I actually like volcarona's type combination... now that heavy duty boots exists. Rock isn't a very common offensive type besides stealth rock, though you do see rock slide coverage on ground types, I'd say flying isn't the most common offensive type either. Water is fairly common, but usually special attacks from bulky mons. Volcarona also resists fighting, ice and fairy, which are fairly common.
I dont know if you take video suggestions, but id he rather interested in seeing a video abiut which pokemon lasted the longest in OU throughout the generations without any updates/buffs. Despite being forgotten they still went strong
It deeply upsets me that every meaningful Grass Type Legendary has a 4x weakness. I would pay money that isn't even mine to make Tapu Bulu a Pure Grass Type and not have to worry about Bullet Punch and Sludge Bomb.
Bruh. Though you were exaggerating so I look it up, and you are right. Amongst Legendarys, Mythicals, Ultra Breasts, and Paradox, the only grass ones without a x4 weekness are Ogerpon and base Shaymin (So just Ogerpon if you count alter forms as the same Pokemon)
Malamar. I love topsy-turvey but even with a decent defense, one u-turn eats the poor squib. Still, malamar has saved me from so many sweeps it’s unreal
Volcorona is a true beast if you teach it Flame Charge, Quiver Dance, and Fiery Dance and then another STAB move. I had one in Black that had those three moves plus Silver Wind and it took down the Elite Four easily.
I feel like Kommo-o was really struggling to find its niche when it was first introduced and they kept throwing things at it to try to make it viable: Signature move, Signature omniboost Z-move, a bunch of boosting and support moves, another signature omniboost move, now IronPress. Kommo-o's strength as a pseudo is versatility since it doesn't excel at any one thing statwise. Plus it gets other non-type based immunities depending on which ability you use, which makes it interesting.
I would also mention at least in Gen 3 and before, bad Types aren't AS bad, because Types=Physical or Special. Letting you spec against a type, at least a little. Like no giving Celebii a bunch of Def won't save it from big Bug attacks, but it might let it live 1 smaller Bug attack since it knows what to spec for, while in later gens not knowing if the attack with be Physical or Special makes it even more specific.
Scizor is another one of those mons that has a crippling X4 weakness to keep it in check. however steel bug IS very useful, and provides numerous advantages for scizor's role. Roaring Moon's 4x to fairy and heatran's 4x to ground are other otherwise overpowered pokemon that are somewhat balanced by an obvious weakness... imagine levitate heatran 😯
It's sad that even if Celebi had fairy/grass it would have 4x weakness to poison type. It's my fav pokemon (after Typhlosion) but sadly it's forgotten. Gamefreak just had to do Gen 2 bad
what if terastaralize didn't overwrite the pokemon's type but instead added the type to it? so tera grass volcarona would be bug/fire/grass. would that be more balanced?
While the ghost part of its typing is undeniably great, the fact that gengar was so good for so long despite having a secondary typing that brought it basically nothing but grief is astounding
Fire and bug isn't has bad a people make it, sure rock hurts, but nothing a good old wisp can't help on the physical side. True that stealth rocks were the bane to fire, flying, bug, and ice.
Mega diance is a contender. Fairy doesn’t really compliment rock all that well defensively (especially with a 4x steel weakness) but she has literally every other possible tool to succeed with crazy stats greats moves fucking Magic Bounce etc. if she was pure fairy she’d be Uber but she has rock plus no item to keep it in check
all these people talking about Magcargo when Parasect is a thing. Spore yeah but It got the joy of having 3 4x weaknesses in gen 1! And an ability to give it a 8x weakness to fire later. Not even factor in base 30 speed letting it speed tie with things like Slowbro and Snorlax. Considering how it is nightmare fuel I guess that helps balance it out though.
Is volcarona really a bad type outside of stealth rock? Outside of rock it’s only weak to water and flying and it has a lot of valuable resistances. offensively it hits like 6 types super effectively including dark and steel. Idk enough just asking
Being weak to water and rock is bad, and half of its resists are useless. Quality over quantity. Flame body is a good ability though despite its low defense.
Lowkey Charizard but more so in doubles. Obviously rocks are not common there but rockslide is. Charizard isn’t a great example though because a lot of its success comes from generational buffs from GF.
Hisuian Arcanine is an absolute UNIT despite what seems like a death wish from Rock & Fire x 4 weakness to water. The big dog has prevailed and won several tournaments. I wish you well, Magargo. It’s never easy seeing horse vs horse infighting the likes a which make even Game of Thrones fans wince 🤣

Low key celebi should have gotten the fairy type instead of keeping psychic in gen 6
But that would give it a crippling fighting weakness to all the amazing fighting moves in gen 1!
This humble pokeboomer appreciates yet another upload before my bed time dinner Thank you Jimmothy, very cool!
Imagine if Bug Types got a type exclusive buff of “takes reduced damage from entry hazards” or “ignore all entry hazard effects”
0:44 Gosh, the war is even spreading into Hyrule ! Maybe Epona, the secret founder of the horse council, could intrevene to solve this conflict
Thank you Jimothy for reminding me of my harred towards Zarude. Celebi is still scared of their last encounter, and she must be protected.
Tyranitar rlly is a fallen Tyranirex. Good in the past but being the Apex predator in many OU generations he failes to adapt to the changing environment like the tyrannosaurus of which its based after.
I don't think celebi would get benefitted even after dropping psychic type.
Amazing content as always Mr Cool. I am once again here asking for your support with the under appreciated Pokemon Raichu. His struggles and oppression continue to be ignored by the greater populace. Thank you for your time.
Falinks and Aggron are sending their High amounts of Horsepower (I can confirm, I am both an Aggron Advocate and a Friend of Falinks)
Arceus bless Magcargo
It's so heartwarming to see that despite having a Dug weakness, Zacian-Crowned is still able to carve out a niche for itself
My favourite great pokemon with horrible typing has to be Swampert. "But Swamperts typing is great!" i hear you say, and you'd be right but what many people don't know is that Swampert has dyslexia.
Horse power could be abbreviated to HP
I’m honestly feeling that the horse council saga is going to take a game of thrones esque twist, where magcargo gets brutally defeated and killed in the civil war
It's all a scheme from Old Money
What a goldmine for pokemon content. Magcargo at some point will be the leader of the horse council. I believe in him.
I think a great video to complement this would be " Pokémon that would be great if not for their typing". First one that comes to mind is Aggron
Alakazam too.
Kinda shocked we didn't cover Lando-T but I love the topic :)
I love Mega Sceptile.
You know what I don't love? Ice-types
Celebi got access to a set that no other mine has. It’s so op only magic guard and ferrothorn walls it. Truly a hidden gen 8 gem
GF forgot how to balance over the years and this resulted in Caly-S, Zacian, Urshifu, Rillaboom, Gholdengo, Kingambit, and much more pokemon being busted to the core. Thank you
Did he video about bad Pokemon even with good type combo?
You can have my horse power, magcargoat
This why I never leave without screens, otherwise these would be deadweight. Another reason why i am thankful for terastallize.
The Celebi in the thumbnail looks funny. Where does Jimothy get those renders?
Maybe a more subtle effect (or not really a problem): but I find it interesting how certain Pokemon in Gen 3 OU manage to be solid, even though their STAB does not match their Special Attack/Attack state. I think Gengar is the best example of this, but a less known example is Entei-way less powerful before the Special Split.
good thing magcargo could overcome its trash typing and become a true horse council member
"Pokémon can be good" - Jimothy Cool
I love great choices, despite their terrible typing. Thank you Jimothy
Your voice is really soothing.
Malamar. I love topsy-turvey but even with a decent defense, one u-turn eats the poor squib. Still, malamar has saved me from so many sweeps it’s unreal
This guy will die if he uploads a video without mentioning Gen 3.
And them Pokemon Company gives us Zacian and Flutter Mane
Volcorona is a true beast if you teach it Flame Charge, Quiver Dance, and Fiery Dance and then another STAB move. I had one in Black that had those three moves plus Silver Wind and it took down the Elite Four easily.
i made my brother subscribe to help macargo
Kommo-o is another cool one with a 4x weakness to fairy, and 2x weaknesses to ice, dragon, flying, and psychic yet its carried by its movepool.
ADV Swampert with sap sipper would be godlike
Nothing like Alolan Ninetales having a 4x steel weakness when Bullet Punch and Flash Cannon exist.
Also, Hoopa-Unbound is 4x weak to bug.
It's sad that even if Celebi had fairy/grass it would have 4x weakness to poison type. It's my fav pokemon (after Typhlosion) but sadly it's forgotten. Gamefreak just had to do Gen 2 bad
Another day, another video of Jim tanking his ELO for educational purposes
what if terastaralize didn't overwrite the pokemon's type but instead added the type to it? so tera grass volcarona would be bug/fire/grass. would that be more balanced?
Pokemon can be good for many different reasons
sometimes pokemon are good because of a great type combination
sometimes pokemon are good because of a great type combination,
Dude spoiler tag!
offering important immunities or resistances against common foes
but sometimes pokemon have terrible type combinations
While the ghost part of its typing is undeniably great, the fact that gengar was so good for so long despite having a secondary typing that brought it basically nothing but grief is astounding
Great vid
And then there's zacian. I don't need to elaborate further
Gen 1: Parasect. Strongest Bug Type for an In-Game Playthrough.
all these people talking about Magcargo when Parasect is a thing.
Next time Shedinja is legal I wanna hope tera is still in the game so I can electric type, air balloon, wonder gaurd
Celebi looking very fertile here
Hisuian Arcanine is an absolute UNIT despite what seems like a death wish from Rock & Fire x 4 weakness to water. The big dog has prevailed and won several tournaments.
I wish you well, Magargo. It’s never easy seeing horse vs horse infighting the likes a which make even Game of Thrones fans wince 🤣
The obvious comparisons to ttar here being abomasnow and to a lesser extent alolan ninetails both with dual types that dont really help cover each others weaknesses and make a x4 weakness
Can't wait for Tyranitar to rise back to OU when Tera is no longer available
Are you doing any more team doctor?
Maybe ho-oh in Ubers is an example
This guy is so funny for no reason
