*PROOF of 180 kmph speed* _PROOF 1_ Locomotive crossed a road crossing at approximately 1:10 mark Locomotive crossed start of platform on the opposite side at around 1:16 mark Approximate time taken (measured using stopwatch) = 6 second. Approximate distance measured from google maps = 300 metres. so approx. speed = 300m/6 sec = 50 metres/second = 180 kmph _PROOF 2_ Using Doppler Effect. Frequency measured using Fourier spectral analysis of audio. The horn's pitch when train is coming closer = 549 Hz The same peak when train is moving away = 414 Hz Approx. speed of sound at 40 Celsius = 354 metre per second. So speed of train = 3.6*354/((549+414)/(549-414)) kmph = 179.7 kmph = approx. 180 kmph. So the Talgo is indeed going at approx. 180 kmph.

WAP-5 is India's fastest and most track friendly locomotive and is capable of 200 km/hr and does 160 km/hr everyday with the Gatimaan express. My guess is that IR did not have WAP5s to spare for the tests and so used a WDP4. Now a days most WDPs hauling express trains are WDP4B or WDP4D both of which are derived from the WDG4 freight loco and have a Co-Co wheel arrangement. These can haul heavier loads ( read .. our 24 coach mail expresses ) at a more moderate max speed of around 110-130 kmph. A WDP4 in contrast is built as a passenger locomotive and has a Bo1-1Bo wheel arrangement which means it can do higher max speeds with a lower load without putting too much load on the tracks. However since the Bhopal Shatabdi and Gatimaan are WAP5 hauled and the rest of the mail-expresses including the Rajdhanis and Durontos have more moderate top speeds ( 110 - 130 km/hr ) , they will generally use a WDP4B or WDP4D or a WAP7 which are better suited for heavy hauls at moderate speeds. This leaves IR with a fair number of WDP4s lying spare which can be used for high speed tests . WAP7s too are derived from the WAG9 freight locomotive and have a C0-C0 wheel arrangement and are certified for 140 kmph only. Beyond that they are too harsh on the tracks. Thus for speeds greater than 140 kmph IR has only two options .. WDP4 or WAP5. WAP5 has partially suspended traction motors which drastically reduces unsprung mass making it the most track friendly locomotive at high speeds. It has been tested by IR at 184 km/hr. WDP4 is a great locomotive as well, but IR doesnt seem to have a need for a high speed diesel locomotive and so it is available for trials. This is just my two bit. Someone can correct me if Iam wrong.

Locomotive crossed start of platform on the opposite side at around 1:16 mark
Approximate time taken (measured using stopwatch) = 6 second.
Approximate distance measured from google maps = 300 metres.
so approx. speed = 300m/6 sec = 50 metres/second = 180 kmph
_PROOF 2_
Using Doppler Effect. Frequency measured using Fourier spectral analysis of audio.
The horn's pitch when train is coming closer = 549 Hz
The same peak when train is moving away = 414 Hz
Approx. speed of sound at 40 Celsius = 354 metre per second.
So speed of train = 3.6*354/((549+414)/(549-414)) kmph = 179.7 kmph = approx. 180 kmph.
So the Talgo is indeed going at approx. 180 kmph.
