White vinegar is a natural fabric softener, so I use it in the washing machine instead of store bought softener. Keeps the machine clean and it doesn't make your clothes smell like vinegar. Cheaper too!

Although vinegar is widely touted as the "be all, end all natural cleaner, in reality, vinegar, being an acid, is actually corrosive and should not be used for many applications for which it is touted, such as cleaning granite counters, cleaning tile floors and grout, and other uses it is recommended for.
      Washing Machines
Vinegar is sometimes used as a fabric softener or for getting rid of stains and odors in laundry. But as with dishwashers, it can damage the rubber seals and hoses in some washing machines to the point of causing leaks. It’s a problem that Steven Grayson, owner of Foothills Appliance Service in Wilkesboro, N.C., sees fairly frequently. “With continual use, vinegar can literally melt hoses, causing leaks and thereby possibly all kinds of additional damage to the house,” says Grayson. In his experience, front-load washers are especially susceptible to vinegar-related damage.
Plus, it may not even be doing much. “Vinegar isn’t very useful with stains that have already set into clothing, including food stains and bloodstains,” says Sansoni. Consumer Reports' recent tests of laundry stain removers reveal products that are great at removing tough stains, and you don't have to worry about any of them melting the rubber in your washer.

Where the tube from the toilet goes into the black tank. It's basically just a fancy "doughnut" that holds it in place. No mechanical fasteners or anything. If it ever comes free, you don't need to drop the tank. Just pull the toilet off and you can get to everything from the topside.

Once every 2 months or so I put a couple cups of bleach with a tiny bit of soap with no clothes in the washer and run it at the hottest temp I can then I take a microfiber cloth and wipe inside the rubber ring seal. Every day use I always leave the door opened after use and wipe the glass and rubber seal. I also leave a towel hanging on the door so it can't close.

I had this same issue with my front loader in my sticks and bricks, so after much "self research", I started wiping under the rubber with Odoban once a week and that made a huge difference. I did this on top of running a load of just bleach and soap in hot water with nothing else in the washer.

I'll tell you a way that you can prevent cleaning that P-trap out in your sink and it also works great for your sink in the kitchen taking boil up a gallon of water and two cups of vinegar and pour it down the drain once a month and you'll never have to take your P-trap apart again also do the same thing for your shower drain and before you go on the road put one cup of Dawn dishwashing soap in your black tank and you are gray tank and as you're driving down the road that will clean the greasy stuff off the inside of both of your tanks have fun💝💝😍😍😁😁😁😁😁

We do similar at home. One cup of baking soda and I scrub out the sinks/toilet/shower basin. Then I pour 2 cups of vinegar in, let the bubbling sit for a bit. About a 1/2 hour later, I go and rinse it all out with hot water.

    • @LIBERTY0RDEATH

Would like to see someone actually test the theory. We have all heard about putting the vinegars etc down the sink but have you taken apart the p trap 6 months to a year later to see if it actually works? I also don’t buy for a second that putting a little bit of dawn in the gray and black tank will clean the grease off. It won’t hurt but it isn’t going to do as much as people think. Put dawn on a greasy pot then pour some water in it and dump it that’s about what your tank will look like.

We're full time and I've never seen that kind of stuff on the "poop chute" on any of our three Grand Design RV's. It almost looks like some kind of bacterial growth. Ours stays white and requires no cleaning. Weird! As for the washing machine - we leave our washer door 1/2 open all the time. Zero mold. But then we removed the door to the washer dryer closet so that makes it easy to leave the washer door open. Another great video! You do a fantastic job covering many aspects of RV'ing that others don't.

    • @acampbell198
      @acampbell198 3 роки тому +2

Us too on the poop shoot. We've never gotten build up like that. Not to get too far in the weeds...or down the chute might be more appropriate...but we usually preflight the potty by pushing the foot lever part way down (run the water w/out moving the valve) and fill the bowl w/ a few cups of water first. We also run the water for 10 seconds or more during the flush. Not exactly the greatest from an environmental perspective but I really hate cleaning toilets.

I had the same issue with my home front loading washing machine. I looked up on UA-cam on how to clean the rubber gasket. I removed the gasket and soaked it in water/bleach mixture for a couple of hours and it looked brand new. I wouldn't replace the seal unless it's damaged. I put my cleaned seal back on the my machine and it's been working like new since. I'm not sure how much a seal costs for your unit but mine was around $50'ish. You already have to do the labor either way. The hardest part was putting the inner spring back on when I did mine. I'm sure you could find someone on UA-cam that's cleaned your gasket.

Great tips! It's refreshing to see videos from RV UA-camrs that aren't repeat videos from a bunch of other RV UA-camrs with just a slightly different twist. I for one appreciate that a lot. If people are squeamish about these things, they should question whether the RV lifestyle is for them. It's all part of the deal. I replaced a toilet in our previous RV. The tube going into the tank is attached to a standard plastic toilet flange like you would have in newer homes. It's connected with PVC cement. The toilet is attached to the flange. You likely won't break it off but I also take care when cleaning the tube. Thanks again for a well thought out video topic!

Hey Tara, we have a front load washer that I thoroughly clean every 30 loads. There are cleaning tablets you can put in the washer and run it through a wash cycle. Also, make sure you take a towel and wipe down the washing machine door and the seal after every load. The mold you see in the seal is from closing the door and not letting it air out. You need to replace that seal because you don't want to breathe in the mold spores. Wipe the seal dry and leave the door cracked open between every load. You guys are awesome. I have learned so much from you two. Keep it up!

We use a concave screen for the shower drain and clean it with TP after each use, they have multiple sizes W-mart for kitchen/bath sinks & showers. For the toilet we use a spray wand that attaches to a hose but we also clean the toilet routinely with vinegar spray. For the frontload washer we put a few cups of vinegar and run it on the long hot cycle to clean and sanitize every 3 months, also just wipe the seal after each use. It will reduce the smells. We keep spray bottle of vinegar & water mix handy all the time.

Using a towel to wipe the door, the seals, and the drain ring on the wash after each use is a must. We don't ever have a mold/mildew issue. If you need too close when the dryer is in use for the noise reduction, just open the washer door to air dry after the dryer load is finished. We've been living in our 397 for 4 months now. Good tips. I'm always wiping out the seal and other parts in the washer. I'd agree with replacing your washer seal at that stage.

Try citric acid powder mixed with water on the washer, but rinse really well. This works great for stains and gewy stuff. Love watching your videos

For the front loader use borax with one of your warm wash loads. That seems to have helped with wash load freshness and mildew build up. Also I use white vinegar as fabric softener and always leave the door open.

DON'T RUN YOUR EXHAUST FAN WHILE WORKING WITH THE TOILET!!! It pulls air into the bathroom and pulls fumes from the black tank. Same as whenever you flush, exhaust fan will draw air out of the black tank.
As for the washer, we use a clorox wipe every second or third use. And we ALWAYS leave both the soap and washer door open. Minimal issues in the last 6 years. Also part of the issue with the softner is my understanding is it has sugar as an ingredient.

Thanks for the video! Our motorhome has a Thetford Aqua-Magic V toilet. To clean the pipe between the toilet boil and black tank, I fill the black tank with water until it is almost to the slide seal, then I add a good squirt of dawn dish soap and some almost boiling water and let it sit for an hour or two then use a long handle brush. We never have any issues with odours. We use Happy Camper for our black tank which is great.

Hi, I first want to say that my wife and I love watching your channel, we are in the process of watching all your videos from the beginning. I have a couple of recommendations for you to possibly try. First, try using Bar Keepers Friend, it comes in a powder and liquid. We use this to clean or stainless steel sinks and our fiberglass shower. This stuff works great and can be found at most stores. The second one is for your washer. Our owners manual recommends running a long hot load, no clothes, with bleach poured into the fabric softner, soap and bleach recepticles, as well as opening the door and soap fill drawer after use to dry out. This really helps. Keep up the great work and stay safe.

Had a front loader clothes washer for years, never any mildew. You have to wipe the inside of that seal, and the window inside, and leave it open until dry. You'll never have to clean it again. Obviously it'll dry quicker in less humid climates, or when you're running your A/C. Always great videos, thanks guys!

Our home front loader washer, the operating manual says to take a wash cloth and wipe the moisture off the glass and wipe out the seal. We, my wife, does it after all the laundry is done. It helps but about every 2 months she takes scrubbing bubbles and sprays it on the seal and uses paper towel to get it clean. Shee cleans the liquid dispenser by rinsing in the sink and then sets it on top to dry and sometime during the week or before the next load, puts it back. Once you get in the habit, it shoukd be easier to keep the washer clean. Thanks for the nasty tips. I just did my bathroom p trap the other day. I hate doing it. Great video!

We have used front load washers for about 20 years and found using dry detergent helped reduce the mold build-up and odor. As you noted, leaving it open helped, too.

I brought a set of small scraper tools like dental picks that make pulling hair from drains a breeze. We also use the shroom, love them. Also, we found that Murphy’s Oil Soap is excellent cleaning the cabinets and leaves them with a nice clean finish without drying out the wood.

Loved the video guys. As full timers, we understand that dirty jobs come with this living type. I would like to pass on some information given to us by our repair man. Front load washers all can and will grow mold, but to remove the mold and clean the gaskets, mix bleach and baking soda; then apply liberally and let stand. We let it soak in for about 3 or 4 hours. about 90 to 95 percent of all growth or build up comes right off, and yes, stains are removed. Also, we should inform you that we also, replace the washer's front gasket once a year or 18 months. We have had our front washer for 4 years and it runs perfectly. I hope this helps. And yes, Chad I hate cleaning out P-traps too. Keep up the great work guys...

Great video. Ya’ll surely aren’t afraid to get down and dirty He he. Regarding the stainless steel sink, all you need is some baking soda. Spread it liberally around the sink and use a blue (made for teflon) scrubby. According to the sink manufacturers you’re supposed to scrub with the “grain” of the sink. If you want a little extra polished look then apply a light coat of vinegar with a clean cloth. In either case after your finished buff with a clean dry cloth. (Microfiber works best) PS. Vinegar will damage natural stone finishes so be careful where you set the bottle etc.

Try using GOO GONE on the door seal for the washer. It’s pretty good at removing residue and sticky stuff might be a good hack.

Hi Guys. I really like your shows. My wife and I had the same problem with mold in our washer . What I did worked really well. I Soaked some small towels in bleach water and stuffed them in the folds of the rubber flaps and left them over night. Next day it was much cleaner. Some might not like this idea but if you are careful with it it really works. Safe travels.
