  • This video is not sponsored. It is our honest opinion about our newly acquired 3018 CNC from Banggood.
    A few years back we build a CNC. It's working fine. But still we bought the 3018 CNC for milling, cutting and engraving. Why did we buy the 3018 when we had a perfectly good CNC?

    This CNC is almost like a diy cnc as you have to assemble it yourself. Note that the product page states it not for aluminum. But we have no problem with cutting as long as we dont push it to hard. Wood and acrylics engraving and cutting is no problem. And PCB milling also works like a charm.

      Hi!
      I have only good things to say about our budget CNC. We are currently working on a PCB video to show its ability to mill very fine and precise pieces as well. And it was less than $150 (see the link in the description). Since getting this CNC we hardly use the bigger one any more :-)

    Thanks for the cool vid. Two questions: 1. Is there an option or mod for carving round objects, like a rolling pin? I want to make rolling cookie cutters. 2. Can I use this to engrave glass? I would be using a diamond coated bit. The real challenge would be the water jet for keeping the glass cool. I want to engrave fairly deep!y, 1/8 to 1/4 inch, and drill holes as well. Currently I amusing a drill press and a sand blasting cabinet. Very tedious and time consuming.

    • @DIYTECHBROS
      @DIYTECHBROS  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Robert! No, there is no 4th axis. So you can't have it roll. Regarding glass engraving, yes, you can make shallow engravings. But to cut deeper you have to do multiple passes, but I'm not that familiar with glass so I'm sorry to say that I can't give any good advice.

    • @-robo-
      @-robo- 4 роки тому

      @@DIYTECHBROS Thanks for the reply. With glass keeping it cool and lubricated is the important part. Continuous water flow is the most common way to achieve that.

    Once again Excellent video! Do you know if it might be possible to increase the workarea depth from 16cm to say 34cm x 34cm? I was thinking say if you placed a 30 x 30 sq cm acrylic sheet would it not be possible to machine it beyond the 16cm limit of the aluminium base?

    • @DIYTECHBROS
      @DIYTECHBROS  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Mayur! No, the bed of the CNC can only move a certain distance without rebuilding everything. BUT, I some times cheat by milling one part of a 30cm x 30cm acrylic sheet and then slide it upwards. For accuracy, I add to alignment drill holes.

    thanks for the video. Im new to the CNC and also have the 3018 and I am using inkscape as the software to create gcode. I have done the instruction to convert pictures to a gcode (with a .gcode extension) but the problem is the grblcontrol is not showing anything. It's all blank and I noticed that the samples are all in .nc extension. It seems to me that the grblcontrol does not recognize the .gcode extension. I dont know what to do next. Do you know if it has anything to do with the settings?

    • @DIYTECHBROS
      @DIYTECHBROS  4 роки тому +1

      Hi!
      Could be that your 3018 has GRBL0.9. Make sure your software supports 0.9 - or upgrade your GRBl and use a newer version of GRBL control (candle). Note, do not reprogram the Arduino nano that came with the 3018 - get a new one!

    • @DIYTECHBROS
      @DIYTECHBROS  3 роки тому +1

      Hi! End stops are simply micro switches the mill runes into before it crashes in to the sides. As the CNC does not know the limits of you workspace, nor does it know it's precise starting point on the surface, it may want to move beyond the available space and crash into the sides. These micro switches will let the controller board know that it has reached a wall, and stop it safely.

    • @DIYTECHBROS
      @DIYTECHBROS  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Steffan! I’m afraid the answer is: it depends. More importantly then the depth is the length of the cut. The second factor is the kind of bit you are using. When you start the cut you can always adjust the speed as you are cutting. Start off gently and listen to spindle as you increase the speed.
