      I have used both genuine and fake Keihin carbs on many scooters... they both work just fine. As a matter of fact I repair 20-40 snowblowers per year for folks and almost always use the clone carbs on them. My local power equipment shop offers owners a choice of genuine or clone in repairs that can use the clones. The new snowblowers have plastic carbs and the Chinese haven't caught up with those yet.

    Of course they treated you great, you caught them and then notified eBay. The policy of eBay is zero tolerance for selling fakes and is a lifetime ban. Would take seller quite abit of time to gain positive feedback under new account, so he made things correct by sending you an authentic. Glad it worked out and you spoke up! Great channel and content! 👍🏻

    I bought one of those generically made new carburetors for a 12.5HP Briggs for $16.99 instead of $150.00 for an original Briggs Walbro carb, generic one had no marking on it at all, looked identical, and works just as good.

    • @dougiequick1
      @dougiequick1 5 років тому +1

      There ya go! Lots of people repair things with knock off "generic" parts as you say that otherwise might not even repair such because either it is not worth the expense or that is all they can come up with ....not only that but a lot of old stuff the manufacturers wont even support anymore! They expect everyone to throw the whole machine away and go to a dealership and buy a brand new one! Thank God companies spring up to take up the slack! AND push back on the pricing! What no one should DO however is emboss another companies BRAND NAME on a part and sell it AS though it is OEM! That is just criminal! No good reason for it either! Not like people wont STILL buy the knock off even without the silly name on it! For pennies on the dollar? LOTS will! DUHH! Actually Ebay has stopped a lot of that kind of thing ....Pretty sure Sudco would not flagrantly risk their account on ebay ...I tend to believe it was an accident ...but who knows

    I worked for Keihen in the past. They won’t sell carbs (or anything for that matter) that don’t pass inspection. They are a Japanese company with strict standards. What you got is a knockoff counterfeit as you correctly surmised. Despite how well the seller treated you, they are illegally selling parts that are made without license and cheats not only Keihen but also workers out of jobs. Keihen actually has a lot of manufacturing in the US. Love your videos!

    • @jenniesgarage
      @jenniesgarage  6 років тому +4

  • @SH-rm4gw

    The patents are expired on most of these parts, so there is no infringement.
    Truth is, if you want original, buy from OEM supplier, going on ebay to get something for lowest possible price is simply asking for reproduction parts. That's right its call "reproduction", just like you can still buy new fenders for 1960 chevy, they are reproduction, not counterfeit.
    It's only counterfeit if it's made without permission from current patent holders. Once patents expire, anyone can make the part.
    A U.S. utility patent, is generally granted for 20 years from the date the patent application is filed; however, periodic fees are required to maintain the enforceability of the patent. A design patent is generally granted protection for 14 years measured from the date the design patent is granted.
    In Japan, a patent is granted for 15 or 20 years / though without re license payment it expires automatically at 10 years, which corresponds to the length of time the manufacturer is required to provide/supply replacement parts, much like in USA.
    So quit your fake whining, you set out to buy cheap, and you got it. And nothing you have done shows that the original is better than the reproduction, and quite often reproduction is better.

    As a person who has sold on Ebay, when you contact Ebay with photos and a claim of fakes, they got on the seller pretty hard. But dealing with Ebay as a seller is the fast "race to the bottom" so it might be possible that the seller does deal in real an counterfeit parts as a way to down sell this part.
    But if customers keep on complaining Ebay will at first prohibit them for selling that particular item and then after that shut them down.

    • @Meekerextreme

      Yep, no fakes on eBay period. Could easily have been an honest mistake. The item, before dispatch, should have been checked as being the genuine part. The sellers feedback would alert you to his reputation on whether they was consistently honest or not. I agree with , in in video, that some of the Items on eBay are poorly manufactured. Waste of money.

      Hakim Mohamad its technically not counterfeiting it is called cloning. They change one minoot detail, or a material that the product was made with and they are not liable for any copywriting. Honestly i would never buy a brand name carb anymore because the chinese ones work just as well. Ive used many of them, for 1/3 the price thats unbeatable. Carbs in operation are pretty damn simple. The OEM unit was $600.00....there was a seller who had "knock-off" carbs for $50.00, with a return warranty if not satisfied. The "cheep" carb showed up, and looked as good ad the OEM unit I pulled off, and to my surprise, even had an idle fuel trim screw , something the original did not have (plugged at the factory. ) after install, it started and responded as good as expected, no leaks, nice throttle response, and good performance. No complaints here about Knock-off carbs !!

    i been buying on ebay since 2005, and my wife is still amazed at the process i go through when looking for an item.
    it's not just price, i have told and shown her - seller feedback and types of feedback are more important than price; if seller A is selling item cheaper than most or all of the other sellers but almost all the negative or neutral feedback that is recent is for the item i am interested in from seller A that is a problem.
    sometimes the extra dollar or ten combined with a little comparative shopping will save you weeks of headache for an item that is not worth the box it came in.
    sellers that are responsive AND honest are not as plentiful as they used to be on ebay, sadly.

    • @monkeyjuju7441
      @monkeyjuju7441 6 років тому +2

      mrlithium69 Same. I know it sounds naive, but a good bit of the time the seller really isn't trying to get over on people, which makes it easy for it to happen. You'd be surprised by how many people sell stuff that they simply saw they could get for cheaper than the price they see it selling for and have no actual knowledge of the product other than the specs and images the Chinese exporter gives them, so when they order say 1000 maybe they get real ones the first time, maybe not even, but they look like the picture they're shown on the exporters website or digital catalog so they assume they're "as described" and post them up. If the seller shipped a real first batch, the next batch they either grab from someone else, or the Chinese vendor they've been using just peppers in a few fake pieces or a fake batch here and there to increase margins, which are then mixed in with existing real(or always fake) stock, and they're still none the wiser because they know nothing about a specific brand of transistor, carburator, USB charger, cellphone battery, etc. and usually have too many products to care to research the ins and outs of them all, so they sell them and usually are the ones that get screwed in the end because you will always be able to get your money back as a buyer on eBay if you're sold something fake. Chances are they can't get their money back from the shady Shenzhen vendor that sold them the shit though so they're hit with negative feedback, a strike or possible suspension, and a huge lot of fake shit they bought for genuine prices and can't off load to anyone.
      This is why when I sold online I sold only things I knew, or designed and manufactured myself and never tried to have hundreds of listings at once that way I could vet all of the products I sold and keep my outgoing packages at a low enough volume to personally check every items condition before packing it.

    I received a Mikuni carburetor from the Aliexpress website, so from China, and in the box there are stickers from... SUDCO

    The choke control failed after 10 times.
    I managed to start with difficulty once, with an unstable idle.
    Since then, I put my old carburetor back, and it started on the first kick.

  • @fat_biker
    @fat_biker 6 років тому +15

    The two dead carbs? One thing that seems to kill older carbs like this in hard todiagnose ways is that there are lots of little O-ring seals in there around the base of the jets etc that don't tend to come in carb rebuild kits. Eventually they perish & let air and/or fuel through. Strip one of those carbs down to component level & you'll surely find some little rubber seal deep inside that have gone bad that you can source replacements for... there's not really a lot that can go wrong with the metal bits of a carb...

    If you want to verify that someone has a physical presense, use Google Maps with their address. I did this recently and found the address wasn't a warehouse of store, but a residence in an area not commercially zoned.
    When buying through EBay, put all complaints through their Resolution Center. Especially with Paypal, EBay has a zero tollerance sellers policy. They will freeze payments to the seller and ban them for any kind of fraud if they do not send you what is advertised.

    Since the KDX 200 is older than dirt (last made in 2006), it actually is possible that replica was near or better than the OEM part. If I had a KDX 200, I would go one better and install the Lectron carburetor which works better than the OEM part and automatically adjusts for altitude.

    There is couple of options of how they got the castings so identical.
    1. They got a real carb and 3D-scanned it.
    2. Some die casting company just used the 3D-files illegally they got from Keihin as part of a RFQ or something similar. Boom, exact replica.
    3. Like 2., but the files were gotten through corporate espionage. It happens and it sucks.

    Blinding flash of the obvious: eBay sellers can’t be trusted...you play Russian roulette every time you buy there. Good on you that you filed a complaint. I bought a 1964 vintage Fireball Meteor camper from a “professional” vintage camper seller for $6,500.00 (Todd Anderson of Salt Lake City). Advertised as in great shape, always maintained, and ready to take camping. NOT! Shocked? Don’t be. It arrived (I paid $850.00 to have it delivered to Missouri) with its door tied closed; belly material rotted out; both wheel wells were destroyed from a wreck; brakes installed upside down (so no brakes unless driving in reverse gear); roof completely rotted out ($10,000.0 for a new roof); propane lines with multiple breaks “repaired” with rubber hoses joining the broken ends and so full of mud dauber nest it had to be roto-rooted out and parts replaced; and the list goes on! Not only did eBay ban Todd, but I pushed the Salt Lake City police to investigate him. Possible/probable chop shop owner. Bottom line: eBay sellers can’t be trusted, “caveat emptor” (let the buyer beware) still in effect, and if you get what you paid for you should consider buying power ball tickets because you are one lucky sonuvagun! We shoppers must pursue these liars and fraudsters! Get them banned and arrested if possible. ( I added the last part because I bought two Apple laptops for my kids. Good prices. Turned out they were stolen by the seller from a medical research company in California. They had classified medical research on the hard drives. By the time it was over, she and her two accomplices were in prison. Karma sometimes works out.). Glad you got this straightened out. You paid whatever fair price the seller wanted; none of your dollars were bad; so you deserved a fair piece of equipment. Love your show. You have a wonderful wife like mine: long-suffering and all too cheerful. We are blessed, young man! Tchuss!

It was going to cost just as much to return the coils compared to the original purchase price. I left a scathing negative feedback comment on his ebay page. the then phoned me to complain about the comment . I told him he was a rip off merchant and he knew fine well these parts would damage the cdi unit as the resistance was wrong . Leave negative comments as a warning to other potential buyers , and always check the sellers feedback

    I would have rebuilt one of your old ones, and that bike would run great! these carbs are about as simple as they get. the KDX 200 is a GREAT BIKE! Just because you buy a new "correct" carb, doesn't mean that the jetting will be right, or ANY of the mixtures. You may still need to do all the tuning steps, that a rebuilt original would need.
    good luck with that nice machine! I had an 89 kdx 200 (air cooled) that I traded in on a 96 KX 250, and immediately regretted trading it in. Don't get me wrong the KX was an amazing bike, but way too "pipey" for trail riding, and wished I had kept the kdx. the guy who bought it from the dealer still has it, and says that over the years it's had 3 new pistons, and it still runs as good as when he bought it!

    My son and I appreciate your vids....you get 5 stars. We came up with an idea for you!!!!! For $30 dollars from an Amazon source you can purchase an O2 sensor and electronics to monitor exhaust gas. With this you can accurately tune a carburetor and monitor while you are riding. This type of system is used on engine dyno's. Super super accurate!!!! Should detect any air leaks including main bearing seals.
    Bosch makes a commonly used sensor for maybe $100 bucks but son says his Amazon source should work also and additional electronics are included. We are not sure how the 2 stroke exhaust slime might effect this type of sensor but I have seen systems with air pumps that move exhaust gas to a remotely mounted sensor.
    Good luck and again you work is appreciated!!!!

    When using eBay always pay with PayPal. If you get a FRAUDULENT item go to "my ebay", find the item you bought in your orders. Select "more" and "i didn't receive it".
    Type in the communication box you did not receive the item described.
    If the seller fails to correct the problem eBay will step in and pull your payment from the sellers account and give your money back to you.
    If the seller responds adequately then eBay stays silent.

    I put a cheep eBay non original carb on my honda xr400 after a few years it seems to be working fine (I knew it was a non original replica when i bought it, i just wanted the cheep price tag). Is there a reason not to go with the cheaper eBay ones?
