You mean it won't take me all night to download a game anymore???
AMD are my heroes!
Imagine if modern companies discover repacks 💀
Nvidia will come out with their own version. Call it DLSC, and make it only work on their GPUs. Gamers will praise Nvidia for innovation. Linux users will get another free feature that's adopted across the entire ecosystem well beyond games which Microsoft can't match but ultimately only they care about. And AMDs market share in GPUs will continue to go down. Gamers will ask where the Nvidia competing features are while already using them for free. It's like I've seen this play out a dozen times already. :(
Optional reduction in image quality is not enough for AMD, so I guess they will pay devs to use their texture quality reduction tech so we can all enjoy "AI" shenanigans...
@@roguegen5536 Plot twist - it takes whole night to install the game
@@halycon404 Funnily enough nvidia announced their version over a year ago called Neural Texture Compression, as usual it's just AMD playing catchup
We don't need AI we need a better hardware
true
No, we need better prices
We need to ai to help in hardware tho
Tell that to Nvidia, they are were selling "features" to people before it was cool while limiting the hardware and overpricing the products that matter. And guess what?!?! people still buy them...
@@sirab3ee198 I honestly don't know how to reply to that but it's true
People want fast, cheap PCs... AI is a feature NOBODY asked for... AI value should have been shown beforehand, right now perception is "why do I want this?" "I'm spending 1k, 2k on this why?" Not to mention trampling on our rights with these new AI clauses in the EULA's... we're like: "No thanks"
I think AI is sort of ok, something like the AutoSR is pretty nice if it actually works.
Nvidia had papers on AI file compressions years and years and years ago, just haven't had the chooch to use it.
@@hexidecimark Source?
No one ever asks for technology.
They are made, and then they are adopted, or not.
No one asked for the first car.
It was made, and then some people liked it, and many didn't.
Worth noting the first car was in many ways worse than a horse.
Now? Have you even seen a horse lately?
@@myne00 exactly - "People wanted faster horses and bigger/faster boats. And then trains/cars/planes showed up"
You mean to tell me the average consumer doesn't really care about AI?! Oh gosh color me shocked! Companies need to stop cramming "AI" into everything, especially companies that aren't even tech companies.
The obvious solution is to replace human consumers with "smart agents."
Did you see the AI commercial where AI helps the man who wants transportation decide he wants a powered bicycle? What is this 1890s? If you don't know you want a powered bicycle I'm afraid AI 'helping' you learn that is the least of your troubles. TBF this is the level of commercials. Go see a Nissan commercial, its basically 'Brie Larsen has a car, it has wheels, go places, much wow'. No talk at all of the build quality or lack thereof. (Anecdotally we ran a fleet of service trucks at my job, all of them had various issues. Clutches missing lubricant, rear axle on one had noises they could never fix. All of them clogged a $400 vapor canister that is installed right behind a rear wheel. A friend of mine is on his second Nissan Sedan because the first was a Lemon and the dealership sold them into the loaner. They are harder to work on than they need to be.)
They want humans gone. People are supporting that:(
I'm actually OK with devices having an NPU. What I'm not OK with is privacy invading software being added to the operating system. I don't care if it's off by default. That's like saying you're gonna put a shower cam and toilet cam in my home, but it's off by default - the fact that it's off by default isn't going to make me feel any better. Anything that even has a whiff of spyware should not be packaged with the operating system by default, and it genuinely does not matter if you turn it off by default.
@@arthurwintersight7868 Right, NPUs are needed and important, but there are tons of privacy concerns. The people we "elect" to represent the people, don't even know what AI is because they're 80+ years old, so they can't enact legislation that keeps these private companies in check when it comes to collecting data. Even if they were aware, they wouldn't do anything.
My Mother in law found an old commodore 64 with about 100 software CDs and hard and floppy disks. Plus old PC parts and I'm so excited to get my hands on all of it!

A 9600X matching a 14900KS in Single Thread performance is nuts
Now to see if it's true or just extreme overclocking

If this texture compression is implemented, GPUs released after that will still have absolute ass amount of VRAM.
NTBC doesn't run in real-time and has no effect on VRAM usage, it's for developers to reduce the storage size of their games through texture compression.
@@Vorexia ah, makes sense.
GPUs cannot display textures in a compressed state, so textures in vram will have to be entirely decompressed to be displayed. Meaning that vram usage would be the same at best or higher at worst
Wouldn't be surprised if handhelds become the new gaming laptops, like having better quality games/storage on a smaller device.
All I think when gaming laptops are mentioned are high heat and low battery
If all phones come with samsung dex like desktop or maybe can dual boot into linux distro maybe building pc will be obsolete on general consumers
I just upgraded to Windows 98 😃 Prolly get a LCD monitor next 😏
Don't forget to get a Voodoo card so Quake and Half-Life run smooth
Don't forget a zip drive too
A new 56k modem should help get those kewl games DLed by next week!
Maybe get a 24X CD ROM drive first ?? And of course, a Razer Boomslang gaming mouse.
Wonderful! But can it run Crysis?
Would Reece still wear a scarf in Death Valley this week?
Forget the scarf. He'd need a spacesuit this week!
Copilot refuses to answer my questions about historical political events. Very frustrating. Seems the billionaires behind the AI boom want to police our thoughts.
Nah. I think they are just doing everything they can to avoid all contreversy. You could still probably trick it like people do with chatgpt
It's specifically programmed to avoid political discourse
Controlling information is power
It can definitely be that, but let's be real for a second:
We're in a day and age where even saying the correct thing will get you in trouble by twitter police. I'd imagine that microsoft just wants to stay out of trouble on that end. They'd rather appeal to those people than lose a few customers
@@jdudbdjxb7687 You realize you are saying what im saying. Your just detailing a method in which information is controlled. If you havent noticed a new idiolgy is being installed, in order to do that you must control information. You literally have to suppress the truth.
That is clearly what has been going on in america for the last 40-50yrs. It has just been gaining momentum and we can see it because of social media.
immediately jumped to the Ryzen 9000 news since I legit can't wait for the Ryzen 5 9600X! Looks like the wait to finally upgrade my Ryzen 5 3600 was so worth it, can't wait to pair up the 9600x with my RX 7800 XT! P.S. Keep up the great work Brett
then you'll also be jumping to the AM5 platform
@@gylll_ Yessir! Excited about that to, DDR5 looks primising
Why wait for 9600X, if there is 7800X3D for roughly the same price? No way 9600X will be faster. Best case scenario it will ne on par with 7800X3D, but most probably a bit slower.
I'm the same way but I'm on my loyal 9700K right now lmao. I'm either going to wait for the 285k or even get the 9800x3D when it comes out in September. I play almost exclusively CPU bound games so I'm excited to see the performance jump lmao.
why not get cheaper 5700x3d $250, no need to upgrade to am5 mb and ddr5 ram .
you will get massive fps jump ,
you going am5 mb $300 + ddr5 ram $150 + 9600x $299 + new cooler $50 ,
so about $800 just to get 10 fps more , doesnt look like wise decision
Brett, keep wearing those leka Springbok shirts. 😄
Apple computer sales growth is nearly double PC's growth, BUT Apple's total sales was smaller to begin with, so they actually sold fewer units total, BUT their profit margin per sale is much higher, so it all evens out, more or less.
But if you calculate the after events too, the PC is the more expensive.. Apple devices will get 7-8 major OS update for free, but how much you cost to buy 7-8 new Windows OS? (So when you get new features, not just some security patches..) also Apple devices keep their price better, just check the 4 years old M1 Macbook current price, it's still 70% of the original, which means you can sell your 4 years old M1 Macbook on about 60% of the original price.. show us any other laptop manufacturer where you only lose $400 on a $1000 device after you used it for 4 years..
@TamasKiss-yk4st If you buy a Windows laptop; it'll come with it installed or as a code. Windows 10 keys automatically upgrade to 11 for free if you want and I think even Windows 8 keys do as well lol.
Windows 10 and 11 are basically free, Apple also used to charge for MacOS and brought out a new version every year while constantly forcing new variations of old features just to stop software working on old versions, forcing you to update.
@@TamasKiss-yk4st apple increases their version number every year. Microsoft increases their version number every 5+ years.
You could use a windows 7 license (release 2009) all the way through 8, 10 and 11. Most likely also 12 and onwards. That's at least 16 years (windows 12 is expected next year). Free and fully featured. Show me what apple product allows this?
@@cuteAvancer@SimonVale You can't use windows 7/8 key/license to activate windows 10/11 anymore. M$ blocked that about a year ago. I managed to activate several windows 10/11 installs using the same key for windows 8 I got 14 years ago for free from my university, while I still could. But even now you can get a valid key for 5-10$ on various sites selling keys. I can't imagine anyone buying windows directly from M$ for MSRP (~100$). That, and the fact that you can basically run windows forever without activation means that M$ doesn't care if you buy a key or not, as long as you're using their software. Maybe you'll be tempted to subscribe to Office 365 and/or other of their services and make them more money than just buying a key.
"AMD has developed compression"
Too devs won't use it because it requires working.
It would need a working and documented source to begin with.
i for one won't be suprised if playstation and xbox start standardizing and mandating this if this is as good as amd says
😂

Will Reece be having a whole episode during the upcoming Amazon Prime days so he can bake us a deal pizza made from the finest deal dough? Deals.
Ive been saying this forever, Nvidia is a software company that makes hardware and AMD is a hardware company that makes software.
I've been on your twitch, but never when hot news is being recorded. What time do you guys do that? I remember waking up early at college and still waiting till ~8am CST to watch it every morning.
I’ve been using a i5 8600k for 5 years now, and it’s begging for an update. Maybe ryzen 9000 series will be the one that makes me upgrade
Yeah good choice
7800x3d is cheap and stupidly efficent
@6:00
Hot Dang!!!
The 4 sdd pcie raided cards are slightly more realistic but still ridiculously fast.
It feels like the uncompressed audio files and prerendered cutscenes take up a lot of storage, rather than textures for some reason tho
This has probably been mention, or i just jumped to much in the video:
But NVIDIA also has this, called Random-Access Neural Compression of Material Textures. And it will 100% be used as the reason why the 5080 will not get more vram.
This was presented at Siggraph in 2023.
NVIDIA version is different, it can do real time textures decompression meaning GPUs can use less VRAM, AMD version on the other hand will decompress the game itself while running, saving storage space, however, it won’t lower any VRAM usage as the textures is already been decompressed by the time the GPU needs to use it. This means NVIDIA can afford to use less VRAM while AMD can’t.
It seems like most people are concerned with AI on their computers having two way connection to the internet. If big tech could ensure that the AI on my computer isn’t able to send data out, only retrieve it. It would be more appealing.
Shout out from South Africa!!! We enjoy your content this side of the planet very much
The 9600x beating 14900k I single core is petty huge for gaming, looking forward to seeing those Benchmarks.
That SSD host card will be amazing fur huge video projects
11:30 OpenRGB its the solution
Spectacular software. Especially for Linux users.
About the Australia not being cold, I agree it isn't as cold of a winter but studies have come out showing the lack of quality in insulation in our homes preventing an escape from the cold and many Previous or visiting cold livers agree it is a worse cold despite being a higher temperature. It is 13*C today and I was shivering because there is 0 protection against any of it.
Hi! What is the mouse you're using?
i know of 4 versions of windows 95 - the 16 bit upgrade on floppy disk, 32 bit version , the version 2.0 OEM and 2.5 that had win 98 features nativly like agp and usb support -windows 95 worked -you could do anything like removing system 32 while it were running and go barebone dos look
Didn't AMD release the NTBC tool couple of months ago with RDNA3
People tend to forget AMD's track record of announcing new tech multiple times and then the said tech being very disappointing when it comes out. I will say Freesync is amazing and I'm very glad they did it.
Hopefully Stacking amd compression with compact GUI will work.
wait so i remember we heard that arrowlake has better efficiency and single threading, but worse multithreading. doesn’t that make total sense based on the lack of hyper threading??
9:52 this is the really important part, doesn't matter if you have a high end pc if the games all suck
Reece bringing some amazing deals and then getting absolutely called out for how he perceives temperature was pretty great😂😅
That NVMe RAID is impressive, but not for the maximum throughput. Looking at the other numbers it seems that the random 4k might finally be getting near the limits of a PCIe 3.0 x4 bus. I would probably find a server/data center SSD capable of getting near this and just run that. Although the option to run more cheap SSDs is good. It'd be nice to see this in a x8 3.0 or 4.0 card (max transfer 8GB/s or 16GB/s).
I bet my dad still has his stack of disks for when we went from 3.11 to 95 way back in the ancient past.
maybe the concern with the v cache size was that it was goin to decrease? so it staying the same would guarantee it (9800x3d) being a monster?
With the neural compression this would be great considering it could be supported on consoles too if they can use older hardware.
Too bad, COD devs wont use for some reason. At the very least it would have finally reduce their silly file sizes.
AMD stepping of of the norm to give gamers what they wanted for years, one more reason to like AMD.
(Not shading other companies, they're all doing their part for progress but in their own departments)
Now I feel old. My first computer was Windows 95 (I got it for free from a neighbor around the start of the XP era) Windows 95 > Windows 98. 😂
I'm still sad about no high-end rdna 4, but the prospects of strix halo softens the blow. AMD is doing big things lately.
Why are we praising the fact that a crucial p3 ssd is $65 when I picked one up for $40 a few months back

Everyone is thinking ai is terminator but all it is is a glorfied vi that reads and looks for patterns upon certain parameters
i still dont understand why ai went this far, why do they think they'll replace humans? they shouldn't be.
Because Capitalism will be far better at generating increasing profits without any humans in the loop.
@@antondovydaitis2261 how can they generated profit when most people lost job and can't effort their shit produced by AI. did they also generated AI customer to buy their AI generated shit as well ?
Just the next thing after nft and crypto.
Ai will never be as good as humans in our lifetime, they don't and we cannot have hardware being even close as our brains.
Everyone jumping on the wagon and using ai as a catch word to bring in investors. The bubble will blow up one day when investors will ask where their money is and then it'll be the next thing.
Always excited to see some Proudly SA Shirts and sweaters
im curious if it works on VRAM too, games need so much VRAM nowadays my 3070 feels obsolete already with 8GBs of vram, a 3060 might get more performance in some games since it has 12GBs

I hope that AMD Gaming Storage Compression gets implemented as a plugin for Unreal Engine so that the game file sizes can be much smaller.
Nvidia has already a similar one : Random-Access Neural Compression of Material Textures

Maybe Reese is a little man trapped in a big man's body. First time I heard his voice I could not believe he was a big guy with such a high pitched voice. And as you say he is cold. A lot of short and slender people get chilled easily 😅
games store their textures as raw png because they want them pixel perfect.
you don't need AI to reduce filesize by 70%, they could simply store textures as a jpg.
but to be fair, jpg are pretty bad. hopefully the AI compression looks better than jpg
Finally, someone remembered compression exists. 😌
Appreciate AMD actually making stuff like compression open.
Nvidia had something similar, but yeah, limiting your games only to Nvidia is a yikes
Recall was not a privacy issue, it was a security issue. All that data was not encrypted (besides the entire disk w bitlocker) so malware or anyone with access to the pc could just steal everything you’ve done on your PC including credit card numbers, banking details, passwords and more.
Privacy and security go hand in hand
Nvidia mentioned this ai texture compression long ago.
Thanks for some of your best humor ever. Sorry, I don't know how to spell Reese, but you're take on him being cold is funny. :) Oh, and how do they have a different season when the earth is flat? ;)
Man I kept saying I was going to be fine keeping the 7800x3d for afew gens but seeing how good the 9000 is looking, I probably will indulge myself.
If Activision wanted CoD to occupy less space, it would. They just don't compress anything. If this thing AMD has done is opt-in, they won't use it. And I trully believe that rumor that they do this so you can't play other games, luring you to spend more time on their game and increasing the chances you pay for MTXs
I love AI, a true force multiplier. I use it on separate machines, dedicated isolated tasks. Great tools require great care.
Amd: now you can game even more faster.
Me: so your half dead cores die quicker 😅
I literally said this exact same thing on an AMD announcement video and the mfs listened...
To what degree are those geekbench scores inflated by the massively increased avx512 performance of zen 5?
The problem that I and I think many others have with AI technologies right now, are not the technologies themselves but is the fact that 99.99% of the time they are cloud based services. Which practically means throwing out your privacy out of the window.
I personally would welcome any AI technology that'd perform offline on my own hardware but for now personal hardware are not up for most AI tasks.
You can use AI stuff on personal hardware.
It's not going to be capable of all the same stuff as the big fancy cloud computing network, and it may run slower, but it still works. Images in particular, I can run quite well getting 720 or 1080p resolution on a 3080ti.
Looking good in the Green & Gold
makes me wonder if the gpu companies can some technology for better use of vram by such as .......making 8gb enough for loading higher quality textures etc.
Stupid question but can you mix AMD and NVIDIA hardware?
CPU and GPU? No problem. Two GPUs? That might have issues.
loving the bok shirt!!! good on you
LOL. "I'm wahking, heaaaa!" Is what New Yorkers are known for saying (See Midnight Cowboy) vs how Bostonians talk "Dahn't Pahk tha Cah in Hahvaahd Yahd!" 😄
The reason nvidia has almost always been ahead is precisely because of that focus on software and developer outreach. They have the presence of mind to ask “ hey what do you guys want?” And we are like “we want this” and then Nvidia does this crazy thing - they give it to us. And it works. And it’s awesome to work WITH. Nobody wants to work with AMD software stacks. That’s the difference. If you want to get things done you use nvidia, that’s just the way it is. Nvidia spends upwards of $200m/yr in just developer outreach. AMD doesn’t. I could care less if your software is open or closed. I don’t finish a job and think to myself “pfoo-boy! I’m glad the software I used to make that is open!” 🤨
Non-AI and raw keyword searches are going to become the 'manual transmission' of computing.
That AMD stuff will be great for the Steam Deck.
Mac growing can be that people who use to own a 86x cpu Mac now buying a Arm Cpu Mac. Over all not sure if it's growing in the marketshare we just need to wait see how it is at overtime out the year.

directx already supports texture compression without ai. Ai is too slow for real time decompression of textures
I am content with the performance of my system.
But I am not content with the fact it’s a frickin space heater when I’m gaming.
That’s a problem
I love the ai push, this bubble feels fragile
With Intel focusing their new chip announcements on battery life instead of AI makes me realize they knew consumers don't really care about AI.
Exactly why I have a 1600-watt EVGA and a 1000-watt EVGA PSU if I want to power it I can! Even if it has to be run on a secondary system!
