I love the idea of it basically being a multi-screen Kindle, specifically tailored to manga. I mostly just buy manga digitally these days, but my biggest gripe has always been only having one screen. It's never felt right coming from someone who used to read a ton of physical media. I love this idea, not just for manga but for every book. But especially for manga. Can't wait to see how it progresses.
Tbh I prefer having a room that's full of manga and books in huge stacks that'll collapse in it of itself whenever an earthquake happens but in the context of stuff like travelling or you just don't wanna spend half of your monthly salary on manga and books, this really is a more spacious and economical alternative. Hopefully we can get some of these by 2021 or something.

@@natsuriofubuki6958 Maybe I misunderstood the comment, but to me it seems to imply that he wants to hide the fact that he is reading an ebook rather than an actual book. Even though that would make no sense? But it wouldn't make sense even if manga was forbidden, since doesn't this book have a manga cover?
The only improvement I can think of here is to use empty spaces or have a page for cartridge container thingy. If whole page, that would look like an awesome collection.
Provement would be that they capitalize on their success and not just sit on their success like they've been doing and only have Naruto for the past 2 years and not do cartilages but have a cloud storage for the manga book itself and maybe even half an electronic sort of cover at this place the manga that you're reading that would be cool right now I think this company is committing the dumbest thing ever they aren't capitalizing on those success it's been 2 years the only thing available Naruto
They get a %. This is aimed at people who don't really buy manga aka like everyone not in Japan. Like 99% of bought physical manga are bought by Japanese.
they get a percentage and it means less people will pirate online because they will see these and be like "hmm well it's a bit cheaper than buying all the manga" so it's just an overall cool idea. i'm sticking to my physical copies probs tho.
i imagine that they'll either wait until it finishes and then release it or they'll have a website or something so you put the card into your computer or whatever and update it that way
You had me interested, but by the end of the pitch, I’m sticking with reading my digital manga in iBooks on my iPad. Shelf saver, I can get a custom cover for my iPad to match the latest manga I’m reading, and the pages curl as you move your finger from the corner to turn the page. It doesn’t hurt that I use my iPad as a daily driver either.
I think a big turnoff might be the size (being larger than an ordinary volume) and that many people enjoy actually collecting the volumes, but it's still a cool product.
@@ivanbackfromthecardshop8093 many manga volumes, at least the ones I have are fairly small and can be easily held in 1 hand, these things are quite large.
oh, I thought this would be an easier way for you to read certain obscure mangas tbh rather than the ones we've already seen long time ago. They should consider making it so that it connects to the internet, so you're able to browse through all the different mangas rather than having to buy cartridges. This way, people can actually subscribe to an author or a manga so it can be easier for both party
You show off your manga? You're one of those guys that read books only to have the right to say: Why arent you guys reading books like are tou uneducated or sth?
IKR! I currently have ALL volumes of Jojo's bizarre parts 1-2, and it is expensive. when I found out the prices for the manga for part 3, I ended up watching the anime instead because it is cheaper.
But imagine it this way. Naruto has 72 volumes and if each volume costs $10, buying all the volumes would cost $720, so you'd end up saving $120 by getting this.
Daniel Rodrigues exactly! I’d definitely love saving more money than spending more money. Especially if I then only have to buy cartridges to read their manga and can get the exclusive art for a lot cheaper separately.
I have four problems with this product. 1) for collectors of manga wouldn't you want the physical books because you are collecting for a reason. (like having all the volumes of a manga) buying this would nullify that unless you are adding this to you collection. 2) The batteries. Personally I would rather have a port for charging or have this ebook have the capability for wireless charging. Buying batteries all the time can be expensive if you buy the good brands or a hassle if you buy the cheap brands that barely hold a charge. Since this ebook are battery operated. I would be compelled to buy rechargeable AA or AAA batteries. So I could have batteries for this at all times and not have to buy batteries every time the ebook dies. 3) The SDCard. I have a couple of things to say about this. The first thing is the sdcard will be abused. People will figure out how it's working with the ebook and people will start creating doujins, Hentai, pirated mangas, and other random stuff and put them on a sdcard and sell on eBay, Facebook marketplace, and other places like that under a kinda like "black market". Secondly I rather have these ebook be tailor made to one manga series at a time. One reason is for collectability. An Ebook could have all the volumes of a manga series and have like special cover art, the option to make the pages black and white or colored (I know most manga reader like black white pages but this is just have options.), and any other additions. 4) The Screen. Why is the the screen not touch screen. Like keep the buttons but i would like to be able to swipe across the screen like am flipping through pages in a book. *Disclaimer this is just my opinion. buy the product if you want to*
Wish a touch screen is too much, this would be too expensive if that is the case, and don't judge this product so early because it's a technology with a long way to improve.
@@ramone.chacon5084 I agree with you and the original comments. I think it's a balance between features and cost. It would be expensive to produce a book for every series and then expect people to pay for it. They'd rather just produce an SD card with the chapters. Secondly there are ways they can make their SD card or the product itself locked to only operate with certain file types so pirating won't become an issue.
@@hinoakuma6386 that's I thought too. Like Nintendo make it in the past, and with the current technology that would be easy, anyway this got his fails and problems, of course. But just took give support and hope this project be a sucefull.
Yeah I actually collect manga out of necessity because the whole point for me Isn't to collect an entire series because I like having it on the Shelf. It's as I'd like to be able to read an entire story and be able to support the original author of that story so that way I can help to get more work from them and something like this is ideal for someone like me. I don't have a lot of shelf space and I never will but I would like to be able to read 72 volumes of something.
Seriously, i think this is the future of manga and it's truly nice, i like both physical and digital manga so to see it both in one creation, it truly makes me happy and want to have one too or a lot more actually, i would LOVE to read my manga in this emanga ? I forgot hh Thanks for the vid man ! We appreciate it~ 😍😁💜
Well, it's a $1000 glorified e-book reader, looks cool, but it's certainly not for everyone. I think there's something special about having a real Manga in my hands (or even just a normal book) that can not be replaced by something like that.
Hard agree about the feel not being the same, but its portable, saves space, convenient and not as so much more expensive than buying all the volumes. Also when they start selling cartridges, you don't have to buy the Kindle again saving so much more money. I think this is great for people with less money and want to read manga. Maybe they can make the color of the Kindle more gray like a manga page, make the device more smaller or make screen more bigger to give manga feel.
I agree, let's say IF we are in a emergency situation, or we are on the sea ( of course we have our things like clothes and OF COURSE MANGA) so if we are on deserted island for many months and the batteries had died. So what I am trying to say is that books don't need batteries and can read anytime we want!!!
dude imagine 50 years from now we will no longer carrying books with paper to the nearest coffee shop or to campus, instead we just bring cartridges everywhere. no more bookshops, just cartridge shop with synopsis you could read from goodreads
if they use blockchain tech i think it can be more secured... but what we can do against the power of internet and scanlation of the physical book? with google you can read any mainstream manga...
They probably would use regular SD cards even on the final product, because proprietary cartridges are expensive to make, especially for a kickstarter company. But the problem would be that the code used in that book would not be able to read normal jpg files that are not even labeled. Somebody would have to program page 1 to god knows where for the book to recognize the manga and read it.
the future is now! the dummy pages could conceivably be filled with tons of bonus content - concept art, character outlines, arc summaries, discussions and Q&A with the creators & artists. so many possibilities!
The only issue with filling the dummy pages with specific Manga content is switching the cartridge to a different Manga will then make the dummy page content unrelated
Just Shounen Jump? This would be a GREAT chance to introduce niche manga series, like JIN by Motoka Murakami, or support smaller creators, like Inio Asano. I mean, that's just me.
Besides the price tag, my only complaints are the screen brightness not being adjustable and the need for batteries. Batteries corrode over time and that corrosion can be cleaned out to get your device working again. HOWEVER if you happen to forget the batteries in it for too long after the corrosion, it could damage the terminals and then you have a $600 dead device. All that being said; I do really like the idea of the device but think the execution could be done better. I'll certainly follow the news on this product.
I would love to have this. Costs way too much for me though. Would've prefered it to be solar powered too, better for the environment. It'd be cool if they Sailor Moon and some Clamp stuff.
I understand they're trying to go for simplicity, but cartridges instead of downloads is a real shame. It's an ereader that can't read the latest chapters as they're released...
But what will you do when the integrated battery begins to deteriorate without being able to mantain the charge for long, change the whole book? I think rechargeable batteries like the one suggested above are a good compromise
Leave all your feedback in the comments below! ^^

Daniel Rodrigues exactly! I’d definitely love saving more money than spending more money. Especially if I then only have to buy cartridges to read their manga and can get the exclusive art for a lot cheaper separately.
what about the ongoing ones?
@@danielrodrigues4903 But imagine it this way. Buy an iPad and download a manga reader app, now you have an iPad.
I know this is just my thoughts at first look.
I forgot hh

The e-reader book is like $150 by itself if u bought it from the Japanese website. You're mostly paying for 72 digital volumes with the cost
Also white bar down the middle of the double page spread is ehhh
I agree, let's say IF we are in a emergency situation, or we are on the sea ( of course we have our things like clothes and OF COURSE MANGA) so if we are on deserted island for many months and the batteries had died. So what I am trying to say is that books don't need batteries and can read anytime we want!!!
The pricing on the kick-starter page puts it at about $400 USD
dude imagine 50 years from now we will no longer carrying books with paper to the nearest coffee shop or to campus, instead we just bring cartridges everywhere.
no more bookshops, just cartridge shop with synopsis you could read from goodreads

Some people do it because it has value to them, like displaying a collection but that cover is really good tho

D true but this is only the prototype, I’m sure they’d want to design it so people couldn’t as easily do that for the final version
They probably would use regular SD cards even on the final product, because proprietary cartridges are expensive to make, especially for a kickstarter company.

This is right up my alley. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I'll be looking into that Kickstarter.
