Nowadays we’re all used to watching various cruise missiles being launched by aircraft but the He111 goes down in history as the first aircraft to air-launch the original cruise missile ~ the V1. This version was put into use as a way of launching the V1 to targets outside the reach of the ground-launch sites especially once the allies overran V1 launch sites as the western front advanced.
That's interesting that the Spaniards made use of Merlin engines for the He111, when the Jumo engines were not available - I wonder if the Merlins improved performance, in comparison with the Jumo engines?
And a bit ironic too. I'm not sure if there were any performance improvements. I wasn't looking into it much but I suppose there must have been some. If nothing else, there was the availability of spare parts and ease of maintenance.

There was , sort of the He116. But unit wasn't used in the military. At the time Germany didn't need long-range bombers it preferred smaller faster one. They only really started looking into long-range for the America bomber. As for a 4 engined He111 that would have taken a big redesign and heinkel were working on the 4 engined He177 . But the less said about that the better.
Well, although there was never a 4 engined version of the He111, there was a FIVE engined version ~ the He111 Zwilling (‘Twins’)~ which was basically 2 He111 joined together by a new centre wing section which mounted the extra engine. This monstrosity was built specifically to tow the Me321 heavy glider, itself later upgraded into the 6 engined Me323 Gigant. Incidentally, the Zwilling was a huge improvement as a method of towing the Me321, which had previously been towed by a formation of three, yes, THREE Me110 fighters, whose pilots really earned their pay for such a dangerous task.
Please tell me the US was not stupid AGAIN and not preserving the two He-111s they had as war prizes? I am not hopeful in any way. The US had flying Betty (NATO code name) bombers they didn't preserve and now there are no complete ones in the world. The US also had a one of a kind four engine Japanese bomber they didn't preserve. There may have even been a surviving all wood Tachikawa Ki-106 (Ki-84 Hayate) that I can't find information on what happened to it when in US hands. Does anybody know what happened to it (may be up to 3 of them? You can understand my pessimism. Thanks all.
Not seriously but it might happen in the future. I found a text how possibly the last combat mission ever taken by a Ju-87 Stuka was by an example captured by the partisans. Stories like that could really work.
There are also a couple of interesting stories of NDH pilots defecting over to the partizans. It’ll probably be really hard to find the airplane models for the videos.
I have a soft spot for the He - 111, not as dynamic as other bombers like the Ju - 88 , but a real workhorse not dissimilar to the British Wellington (Wimpy) ,the 111 had beautifull curved lines and those large thick wings could absorb quite a bit of rifle caliber machinegun fire,ok she was relatively slow, but could lift a hefty weight, and the slowish and steady platform made her exell at launching torpedos.
I have always been fascinated by these aeroplanes and their crews, wondering what it would've been like to fly a mission over England in one! There would be a great view from up front with all that glass! (I never get shot at in my imagination though and open a flask of coffee on the way back over the channel!)
Actually the HE 111 was evaluated by Eric Brown after one from Kampgeschwader 26 forced landed near the Fith of Forth Scotland on 9-2-40 ao was under evalutaed BEFORE the Battle of Britain
I believe the "first introduced as an airliner" bit was just subterfuge by the Germans. It was always a bomber, but the Versailles treaty banned Germany from developing/building bombers, so they just called it a passenger plane and developed it anyway.
Imagine if they repurposed the bombay, 4 20mm cannons in a Jazz Music arrangement, add some additional MGs to the nose, add Radar, and do away with the dust bin gunner. Might have given the RAF night bombers a few additional headaches.
Not all of the aircraft and their insignia are necessarily 100% historically accurate but they represent the closest available option.

They use on the film Batle of Britan They film This movie in Spain they use m109 it tha rools Royce engine .and H111 from Spanish air force.
Yes, good thing they were still around at that time to make the film.
Thx for this great Information

Thanks all.
In one of my books I have a picture of a Ju 88 night fighter with (I think) Wurzburg radar sticking out the front, maybe these had that too?
Apparently not. Those Heinkels didn't go through extensive modifications. Unlike special night fighters in the Western front later in the war.
@@showtime112 so it was mostly "maybe they will fly here too so we can shoot them down"
Have you considered making a video about the yugoslav partisan air force?
Not seriously but it might happen in the future. I found a text how possibly the last combat mission ever taken by a Ju-87 Stuka was by an example captured by the partisans. Stories like that could really work.
There are also a couple of interesting stories of NDH pilots defecting over to the partizans. It’ll probably be really hard to find the airplane models for the videos.
@@lukamarko1037 Very likely. I think those were some trainers or recon biplanes mostly.
@@showtime112 If I remember correctly, they were obsolete Potez bombers. I’ll send you a link to the article.
Preciosísimo y excelente bombardero lijero!!!!

Yes, certain things seem more romantic when we imagine them 😁
I love shooting down He-111 with my Spitfire....!!!
Yes, I see how that can be fun 😁
About two planes was used after war in Czechoslowakia, one as jet engines tester.
Thanks for providing info!
👍
Hvala na komentaru!
Actually the HE 111 was evaluated by Eric Brown after one from Kampgeschwader 26 forced landed near the Fith of Forth Scotland on 9-2-40 ao was under evalutaed BEFORE the Battle of Britain
Thank you for contributing info!
Dornier DO17. She's a good looker.
Whoa, how do you shoot down anything with only one machinegun pointing in each direction?😅
You have to be really really persistent :)
No idea it was used as a nightfighter, like the Ju88 and Dornier17-217 all be it without added guns.
To be perfectly honest, I only recently found out about it.
Nice video. Those Merlin engines completely ruined the aesthetics of the He 111 and Bf 109 clones.
Thanks for the comment! As usually, there's nothing like the original 😁
Excellent five facts video. Then we it's good because it's Showtime 112! ♠️🎩🎯🇺🇸🏁🏁🇺🇦🔱🌻🌸💮🌼🏴☠️🏹
What flattery :) Thanks again!

I believe the "first introduced as an airliner" bit was just subterfuge by the Germans.
It was always a bomber, but the Versailles treaty banned Germany from developing/building bombers, so they just called it a passenger plane and developed it anyway.
True, Germans were masking a lot of their military activity as civilian. Including the He-111.
What happens to Indiana Jones' He-111?
Imagine if they repurposed the bombay, 4 20mm cannons in a Jazz Music arrangement, add some additional MGs to the nose, add Radar, and do away with the dust bin gunner. Might have given the RAF night bombers a few additional headaches.
It would have certainly worked magically in the Eastern Front.
Those Tupolev's look a bit cumbersome.
Night fighters with two 8mm machine guns. Four 20mm cannons might have worked a little better.
Certainly. But I think they were trying to achieve as much as possible with what they had at that moment.
Well, one thing i didn't know is what was a Heinkel He111
Not exactly YT algorithm's brightest moment, obviously :)
For a people as tech savvy as Germans not developing proper radar equipment until late in the war is a bit weird...
You could say that I suppose. Technology sometimes needs ideal circumstances to emerge
He 111 not in same class as allied x4 engined bombers
It was never intended for the same purpose.
Lanceurs de V1 aussi
Finnish ace Ilmari Juutilainen shot down one of those soviet ones over Finnish gulf.
Heinkel He-111 Zwilling 2 in 1
Yes, that was an interesting fact too. Unfortunately, we don't have a model of it in any simulation and I couldn't find any good footage either.
Try a UA-cam search !!! @@showtime112
Russian pilots : "We were just hanging in the air, flying by night we had nothing to care..."
Obf Waldemar was like : "😂 brrrrrrrrr... brrr"
😁
Mussolini's favorite aircraft surely must be the Fieseler Storch.
Franco was not a dictator. He managed to avoid communism in Spain, and to stay neutral in WWII. God bless him
Well, maybe this was the better option for Spain but you and I have very different definitions of a dictator 😁
What happened in the end ??? Red Armed crushed the 3rd Reich .
Western Allies played a rather important role too but strategic issues are not the focus of these videos.
Not a plane that ever impressed me very much. Poor defensive armament, performance against Hurricanes and Spitfires.
German airplanes were mostly designed to operate in conditions of air superiority.
Like I said, a four-engined HE111 is a simple upgrade
No idea mate
Nice looking plane, not a very good pay load or defense systems. Easilly shot down.. The plane that lost the Battle of Britain
It was asked to do something it wasn't really designed for. It definitely wasn't a strategic bomber.
This video should be titled, "Five Things You Didn't Know About Heinkel He-111 ..... IF YOU'RE ONLY 12 YEARS OLD".
Not everybody is a die-hard WW2 aviation enthusiast. One guy here actually commented he didn't even know what a He-111 was :)
The 111 was also used as a torpedo bomber over the North Sea and English Channel.
