Most underrated fighter in History... absolute living legend
Agreed absolute unsung hero and pound for pound great.
Not to those who know the sweet science, he's a legend of the sport, an all time great, 46-0 HOFamer 🥊 underappreciated and overlooked by casuals is moreso what Joe has been in his career, but we don't give a toss about the part timers we know the score us old-school hardcore fans 😉 lol, James if you can get the King of the 90s HW division The Lion Lennox Lewis on mate that would be OUTSTANDING also, Joe and Lennox top 2 to be born on these shores and two all time greats in their own rights 🥊
@@JackMcLeodJr He is underated mainly by American and English boxing fans, but that is mainly down to envy.
Really, underrated? I thought pros , big fans , casual fans and even ppl who know nothing about boxing know Joe is special and amazing but maybe in wrong. He is a legend tho, we can all agree to that
You know what I wrote that first message saying do you really think he was under rated and then listening to the interview even tho I knew all about Joe and watched him loads just hearing him speaking about made me think and read some stuff and actually your right he was underrated , I wonder if it was maybe bcos the Americans don’t talk about him a lot 🤔 I know he’s respected in America by the greats of boxing tho but in general.
Anyways sorry for yapping on 🤣 just wanted to say that and say I was wrong and you were right
Joe is hands down the most underrated boxer of all time he was incredible 46 fights 46 wins I mean how can you not give this legend more of a mention
Big respect to Joe and to you too James
Thanks pal
Anything Goes With James English your welcome James keep it up with the brilliant podcasts
My Dad was a bastard when I hear people saying that they have had a great relationship with their dads I always feel I little bit envious.
Great boxer but at the end of day all his big wins were against guys who would’ve murdered him in their primes
@@Wuus , nonsense.
My Grandad once took me down to the Newbridge Gym when I was 10, Joe wasn't in there but Enzo was and he came out and spent 15 minutes with us chatting about boxing and was so lovely to me. Gave me a signed poster. Lovely man
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Joe's a lovely guy too.

@@markbutlerfox9936 Mr calzaghe
You’re right it should be made into a film. If done in the right way, the writing is good and the production is of the highest level it would be a great story.
Joe, as an avid boxing fan, I think the way you used your shoulders when throwing punches, was your biggest asset. Always been a huge fan of yours. God bless you, and hello from America. Great interview. Congrats.
I have massive respect for a boxer who carries himself as well out of the ring as he does in the ring. Thank you James that was up there with the best interviews I've seen in a long time.
👍🏼
Joe Rogan; eat your heart out. James English could give you lessons on the very best way to interview guest.
You've interviewed some hard men in the past James, but this guy is top of the list. Chin made of granite, amazing power and speed. By far my favourite ever British sportsperson in my lifetime. A true living legend.
Thanks for the top interview, James. All the best for the future pal.
Granite? He's been put in his arse 4 times. Compare that to canelo who had never been rocked and been in with much better fighters 💀 granite lmao
I hope he knows he has just as many fans in America too! I'm from Larry Holmes hometown and he already knows how Larry feels about him. We love Joe and his tapes are still used by some of the best trainers!
Absolutely spot on. 46-0 serious boxer.
When you've been so famous, so elite and boxing has been your life, then everything after is anti-climatic! I think if he trains youngsters, he'll find fulfilment. As he says "Boxing is my life."

James, people like you; who know boxing, understand Joe's place in boxing history.
How he gave Jeff Lacy a boxing lesson after he was going to ‘kill the white boy’ haha yeh mate calzaghe salute my hero😎
Lemachenko makes every boxer a amiture.
I met Joe about 12 years back, out on the piss watching six nations. Always my sporting hero and cut a long story short must have been talking to him for about half hour. Genuinely the most humble and wonderful people you could meet. I wish this country appreciated the pure treasure we have in him.
The key to a good interview is the host making the guest feel comfortable. James is a master at this, you deserve so much success pal.
Thanks ollie
Loved watching Joe calzaghe, I don't think British boxing appreciates just how good he was, looking forward to watching it📺👍
Lacey fight really helped him, one of the best nights of boxing 🥊
@UCDZh4Vw_Z9-ok5DpisAbsCg I personally don't believe there's any argument. Calzaghe is #1 British boxer of all time

That speech James said about his Dad and Joes brought a tear to my eye, I lost my Dad when I was 11, I'm 40 now, I still miss him

Absolute legend. Very humble and hugely underrated. He never dodged anyone, they dodged him.
Looking forward to this.
He is not underrated. You are merely infected with the 'underrated' youtube comments section pathology. Its like a weird mass online psychosis
Dodged Roy Jones in his prime and that's a fact. The Jones that fought him was well past his best
Who dodged him, exactly, and when? Calzaghe fans always make this claim but can never back it up. Seem oblivious to the fact that his lack of big time fights (particularly before 2006) were much more down to him than anyone else.
@@TrulyUniqueOne . If Roy was passed his prime, then so was Joe. They're only 3 years apart in age
Eubank snr certainly never did, ok he didn't win but he never dodged calzaghe.
Now this is what I call a REAL hard man, brilliant boxer who conducted himself like a complete gentleman outside the ring... a class act all round 👏 👌
They say never meet your heroes but I was fortunate to meet Joe at an event around 2009 after following his career and going to his fights with my old man for years - he was super humble and generous with his time and we had a good chat about the Kessler fight which I thought was his best performance. So good to hear him being positive about the next chapter of his life after what must have been a very tough few years. Absolute legend, and great interview James 👍🏼
Halftime at the Scotland v Cyprus game I turn to my mate and ask him who his favourite boxer was from back in the day (when we had youth on our side).
Without hesitation he replied ‘Joe Calzaghe’.
He has far more interest and knowledge of boxing than I, but it made me smile.
I’m not even that huge a boxing fan yet I remember going from lying down to sitting up in bed watching the Lacy fight in realisation that I was witnessing someone truly special.
And I agree with my mate- my favourite too👊🏻✊🏻
The amount of people that have said they were a fan or just admired Joe, Enzo and the team when he was active in the ring is staggering. Personally in terms of guests James, this feels like a treat👍 top man.
Have to agree and not only due to shared names.
Completely agree with this.
Love how open the conversation was
Legend of a man, top fighter and true gentleman 👏
As a Welshman I couldn't be prouder of this man. I grew up watching the later stages of his career and witnessed greatness. I too have lost loved ones recently and hit the drink but decided to pack it in a few weeks ago. I am now healthier mentally and physically I highly recommend to anyone having a hard time to stop drinking alcohol and see how much it benefits you while also saving a few quid, a lot of what James and Joe said really is true. BRILLIANT interview ,what a bloke nothing but love and respect. An honest ,humble Gentlemen .
I bought the Lacey fight on DVD and watched it over and over, it was a performance like no other, incredible 👏🏻👏🏻
Wasn’t it just. Can remember the hype and build up, Lacey was touted as the next Big thing and Calzaghe had no chance. Then boom, Lacey got schooled.
Same here, one of my all time favourite fights, I think the build up and the fact Joe was for once not expected to win really made it that much sweeter. Actually watched it again 5 days ago 🤣.
Never tire of that fight master class
He gave him a real lesson for a "slapper" as the Yanks were saying. Still hard to believe gow great it felt that night. Joe proved all the doubters wrong that night and im sure it put some of the US press in their place.
Best interview to date. Massive Calzaghe fan 🙏🏽
Joe’s story is wonderful and testament to family. This is what life can bring when family pulls together and all push in the same direction. He got to the top, stayed at the top, retired at the top. What more could you ask for as a sportsman. Yes there is a trade off and a compromise. But lets not forget he still has a lot of life ahead of him and was still young at the end of his career. Nothing but respect. I would like to see him commentating a little more if of course he wants to. He’s got so much to offer the sport even now.
My two greatest athletes of all time, Joe Calzaghe and Michael Phelps. I love them dearly, very humble people.
Thanks
As a Welsh man best interview I've ever seen of Joe,relaxed and speaking from his heart, proud to have such a humble world class fighter from Wales ,I'm sure he will get focused and back on his feet, simply he's a lion, well done James yet again, a great relaxed interview,of a Welsh legend
He said it in this interview that he's English.
@Paul Price him being English is a fact of life not something you can change being you want him to be Welsh you child.
@Paul Price born in England then moved to Italy and didn't even step foot in Wales till past his first birthday so one thing he isn't is Welsh lol .
@Paul Price lennox and Joe are by two favourite English fighters.

That is one special partnership calzaghe and his dad, his dad didn't really have any boxing experince but they went on to conquer the world with broken hands, amazing story.
Quality guest James and quality work too!
I watched the documentary Mr calzaghe he said he thought Joe boxing through music, you probably seen iy but I found it interesting
My hero and the GOAT in my book, I’ve seen his documentary and when his lads come in at the end and show him the love is amazing….that’s his biggest success them lads are great
James, this is the best Calzaghe interview I have seen.
I grew up in Newbridge and followed Joe's career after he came to my attention that we were from the same town when he popped up on Sportsnight winning one of his ABA titles before he turned pro. I followed his whole career and am so proud of his achievements. Joe was always media shy during his career and not always comfortable speaking about himself. There were times that he came across quite awkward. But when he got in the ring... my God, a different beast came from within. What a fighter. Joe had something very few dedicated top level sportspeople have; instinct. He's very reflective and sensed things in the ring; chinks in the armour, a drop in energy, when to fight fire with fire and when to sit back and box. His career was extraordinary.
But the interview was incredible. Joe seems to have a few demons still but he looks good and speaks so well these days. James, massive credit here as you gave him the space to talk and open up. I'm really pleased that he has got to a place where life is good for him and I hope he continues to enjoy his retirement. With Joe, I don't think the word "hero" is quite enough for me. His story is truly remarkable and I am just so proud of all his achievements.
The greatest British Boxer ever in my opinion. 46 and 0 and still got film star looks. Never trash talked and never forgot where he came from. The most underrated boxer ever👌
By far the Greatest Boxer this country has the honour to call our own. Deserves far more recognition. Enjoy life Joe. You've earned it !

What a podcast! Never seen Joe like this. Being real honest and open about his life.
All the best for the future Joe...
I remember when i was growing up in Denmark my dad was a huge boxing fan and he coached the danish national boxing team. His favorite boxer was Joe and and of course that made him my favorite too.
Joe was a major part of my childhood and i idolised him.
My dad had coached Mikkel Kessler before he turned pro so because of that he and my dad was close also when he went pro. He used to come to our house for dinner and those pictures from those nights mean the world to me.
When Mikkel and Joe fought back in 2007 i was there to see it with my dad. It was one of the best evenings of my life. Two of my childhood heroes in the ring together, i couldn't lose.
Your story is and should be an inspiration to millions Joe.

I know joe personally, lives in my area, I'm good mates with his misses dad, for him to even do this interview, he's a very private man, hates attention, very down to earth one of the boys type, he must respect you James, and like what you do, he drinks in our local and is just a standard guy no glitz of glam about him, shocked to see him on here tbh, you have a gift to get Joe on a show, keep doing what you do, one of the best boxers and most successful is just a normal guy, he's salt of the earth, stays to his roots, no one knows how loosing mam and dad hits you Enzo was a great man, I should of been pro but lost my dad and trainer at 18, my nephew is now training kids at Pyle abc doing what we all love and that's enough
