try using a good quality wide paint brush with the soapy water, for getting into all the small nooks and crannies like engine fins, etc. that a sponge can't reach. Makes for a quick and thorough cleaning process. I also use an electric leaf blower to blow out all water from the bike.
Mototman has that old school “TurtleWax” mentality. I totally dig it. Reminds of what I used to wash my vehicles when I was a teenager borrowing my dads cleaning supplies. Good memories
Thanks for mentioning Harbor Freight, Motorman. I just found a motorcycle jack for a good price, and I've been looking big and low for one to pick up my Harley
Some people may think that's it's a simple thing to clean their bikes. I found this Super helpful. I'm looking to buy a 1997 Harley Fatboy and it's chromed out! She looks good. Can't wait to add that to my stable. 😎🏁
8:04 I’ll be honest. I never really washed my motorcycles. Even my brand new ones. I should have, but rarely did. I didn’t drive a car, so I was always on it. In the rain, snow, all kinds of weather. But when I did, I used a blower to dry. Works amazing! Great vid!
@darren watkin This is just my two cents worth but I don't use air compressors for drying due to the fact that they can blow oil and moisture out of the hose. They can also blow water into places it should never be like under gaskets, past o-rings or into bearings. Just food for thought. Ride safe!
I always tell people to wash their vehicles by hand. Not only would you do a better job, but going over it while you do so, you might find something that needs to take care of it. I do enjoy washing my vehicles a lot.
I’m not an expert . In fact I’ll let u clean my bike since u clean them so fast . Love your videos. Can’t wait to take one of your classes . I’ve been riding for just a few years after a long hiatus ,but I’m no know it all I think I could get so much out of one of your classes 👍

Jerry, I also live in Florida and my biggest concern with our water is it's "hard." Lol, you answered my next question. Leaf blower. Florida water and well water is no joke on any vehicle if not clean or dried in time lol
It was clean to start with (for me). You should see how I have my black (and some red) colors 1100 cc bike (so it's a big bike) . I think it has dirt and mud from last winter, still. It runs very well !
Nice. What really works for me is a final rinse using distilled water. It eliminates water spot. I use a 1-gal pump sprayer and less than one gallon of distilled water.
Mr. Motorman, you have taught me much. Thanks. Let me return the favor. Get a bottle of F11 Top Coat. After you do everything you just did in this video, lightly spray a mist of F11 on everything. Wait about a minute or so then wipe down the body and glass with a dry cloth, but let dry on its own on the motor and metal. You will have people asking you for weeks if you just bought that bike.
That looks really good! If it ever stops raining here in Northeast Mississippi, I plan to clean mine up, too! By the way, I really like your Ride like a Pro dvd's. I highly recommend them to anyone wanting to improve their riding technique!
Ok everyone, take a good look...............................................that is what a motorcycle is supposed to look like! Fabulous! Timeless, Perfect! Thanks Jerry!
Motorman .I'm not a exspert by no means . But I want to thank you for all the tips you give your awsome and I have picked up a lot off your teachings .again thank you from fairborn Ohio .
I have 3 of Motorman's DVD'S and they are well worth the investment when you consider the alternative cost of crash repairs and yes, your life. You can't increase your odds over his motorcycle cop training. Get the set, you will not be sorry. :)
I'm going to give Turtle Wax products a try and use your method. On my Black"12" FLHTK I've only had water completely on the bike about 4 times other that being caught in the rain. My procedure, jack bike, remove bags and seat. I bucket of clean water for the wheels and another for bike. Wet towel then dry towel. I use Maguire Wax. PigSpit on engine. She cleans up nice..
I use a cleaner called Bike Brite, claims it won't harm electrical components idk,I use leaf blower afterwards, good to see your front wheel stays facing forward, that's due to proper triple tree bearing preload, ride safe!
JERRY, Try dryer sheets! They remove the love bugs everytime. Get them at the dollar store, ride safe and enjoy ur retirement, did 42 years on the job in Fla. Stay safe
FW1 Waterless Wash and Wax is the best aerosol quick detailing product I've seen for bikes, imo. Makes them look great, even in bright sun. Makes black looks deep. One can lasts a long time for bikes.
Depends on the paint condittion, what you do is a beautiful job! If a paint job is oxidized and needs a lot of attention, i go over it with green can of Dupont no.7 cleaner, then right over that with Carnuba wax. With that base down, do your bike just like on this video. Zip wax, by itself doesnt really do a whole lot, but add a teaspoon of Carnuba to that mixture, and the chemicals in Zip Wax will liquify the Carnuba and make it a lot easier to put on. Carnuba is the best water repellant . Zip wax has very little of it. Just enough to legally say it has it. By adding a teaspoon of Carnuba to what it already has, improves it 900%.
Jerry, your motorcycles are always looking their best! You do stay on top of them more than a lot of other riders! Yours look "Showroom New" 99.9% of the time. Its wonders what adding a little more Carnuba can do to the wax you put on will do to make it even better .
I rode to a small town west of where I live the other day. 10 minutes before I arrived in that town, it rained. The weather man never gave it a chance to rain that day. I parked the bike and went into a restaurant in town. 2 hours later, it was still raining. I checked the radar and it showed rain across most of the state. The worst part was, that small town had some chert pits (dirt/clay and rock). The trucks had been coming in and out of those pits for the whole 2 hours I was in the restaurant. By the time I got home, my Limited looked like I had been in a dirt bike race. That was the worst my bike has looked since I’ve owned it.
I have a J&S Jacks motorcycle lift for my Road King. Makes getting at the bike very easy. Love that thing. Good cleaning video. I really need to clean mine
Look at getting TopCoat F11, best thing I’ve found so far for both bikes and cars, better then wax. Also Bug Slide spray works great for all of those love bug guts.
IMWATCHINGYOU I used Topcoat F11 as well but be careful with that stuff because it leaves a white coat that’s hard to take off after. You best see it when direct lights shines on the paint at night. I had to repaint all my bike. Specially the plastic parts.
IMWATCHINGYOU I prefer AvalonKing, it’s more expensive but it lasts for 2-5 years depending on if your vehicle is garaged or not. You can get a 25% discount by adding sweetcars25 at checkout. Give it a look, it works great.
I use Invisible Glass from Costco and microfiber towels (only!). Use it on everything, plexiglas windshield, chrome, denim black paint. Cleans off all the bugs and dust and leaves no streaks or residue. It's great stuff. Don't use ratty old towels, especially dry ones, unless you want swirls.
Motorman...Boss, you would hate to see my bike. The road in is dirt, and when they scrape the road (usually before it rains) it’s just mud. Loved the video. Can’t wait to take your class!
Jerry excellent process, I have used a similar process using turtle wax and Meguiars products. The secret is the leaf blower trick it allows you to get the water out of all the odd areas of the bike. I also prefer the the bike raised on a jack, huge for cleaning spoked wheels. For Black bikes when you need a real wax on it the Turtle Wax Jet Black finish Kit is the way to go!. My ride is and 2007 and every is amazed on how great ti looks after 60K miles!
Yup that was your double doing the work lol Hey motor man i missed in all of your videos anything said about tire pressure and just a couple of pounds low can make your turns feel really soggy I check my pressure every time I ride and not like alot who check with each oil change Thankyou Mark
You missed me talking about tire pressure? Watch the ''New Ride Like a Pro'' video and pay attention this time because I'm going to have a quiz on it in the near future.
I've worked out a cleaning procedure that not only works incredibly well but it's fast and easy - easier than this method. I first rinse the bike off with plain water using an electric power washer. That's to get off any grit that could scratch the finish in later steps. Then I spray tire and wheel cleaner on the wheels and tires and brush them if necessary. Then I spray it with a foam cannon (cost $16 on Amazon) using Chemical Guy's foam stuff (also on Amazon.) The foam is so thick that it looks like a frosted cake! Then I quickly rub down everything with one of those washing mits with hundreds of little tube-like things. A plain water rinse is next. The next step is the amazing part. I spray the bike with Formula 4 (available online from the manufacturer). I dilute it 1:10 and just spray it on with a pump spray bottle. I let that sit for minute or so and then rinse it off. (This is the stuff that is used in commercial car washes.) Formula 4 eliminates all the water spots. It really is amazing and you can see it demonstrated on YT. That's all that's needed. However, when I really want a perfect job, I chamois the bike dry. For normal cleanings, I don't remove the my hard saddle bags or windshield but I do when I'm feeling fanatic. With the Formula 4, it's really not necessary. Lastly, I recently started using Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax. The first time you use it, you spray it on, let it sit for a couple minutes and wipe it off. After that, you just spray it on, let it sit for a couple minutes and rinse it off. Incredible stuff! But when I went to order more of it on Amazon two days ago, the price just about doubled from all sellers while I was online! But Walmart had it for about half the price Amazon was then selling it for. I have no idea why every single seller on Amazon raised the price A LOT all at the same time. So shop around. My cleaning method takes about 15 - 20 minutes and the bike is immaculate and I can see myself in the paint and chrome. The critical keys to this are - 1) Use a pressure washer. I just have an electric one. I can't believe how it makes the process so much better and faster, and - 2) Use Formula 4. It's amazing!
Motor man you know your awsome when I'm watching how you clean your rides. Lol I live on a gravel rd so I have to keep rags and spray on between wash sprays to wipe bike back off once I'm off my rd. My wife laughs at me bc I stop to wipe dust off b4 we can continue ride. I just love that black and chrome street glide when its clean but man it shows dirt.
I'll have to try the TW wash and dry product....but two things; one -that bike wasn't dirty...not even close....I used to live in Florida and if you don't ride in the rain, your bike never gets dirty. Now I live in the NW where it rains all the time...two- just a little tip, leaf blowers work okay but a compressed air line works better because it's more concentrated and directional. Gets in the little cracks better. Your welcome. ;-]
was watching this one yesterday (4/21) and i found a bottle of the wax and dry that i didnt know i had. tried it out and omg,,,,shiney wow. did a great job.
Thanks Motorman. Try a leaf blower after you wash, making things so much easier on you. Then wax, with a quality Carnauba wax, twice a year. That's it.
Nice video! Putting the bike on a jack is a great idea. I use Bugslide between washes. What type of guards are those on the saddlebag guards? I’d put those on my PD bike and my personal bike. If you ever get close to Arkansas, I’d like to meet up. Ride safe!
hahahaha! Not gonna happen, I'm soooooooooooo busy in the office and running the business, no time for cleaning bikes. :) Sorry, no part II coming anytime soon. :)
Good jack, I have the same one i think, same colors and aluminum. Got mine from Sears. If anyone is looking, i think harbor has the same thing. Just different color...
Thank you John Cavar! It was one of those storms that you can't believe erupted around you and manage to come out the other side safe. The weather channel said it was a mini-tornado, I believe it! Never have I ever ridden through such a storm. There was no where to pull over, a transformer blew up and I saw the blue ball of fire travel through the power lines as I was riding under those lines. The winds were 50 to 60 mph gusts, with the rain coming in sideways....The power of prayer and skills got me home in one piece.
My secret (not anymore) is a de-ionized water supply. My system is only for car/motorcycle washing at my house, not watering lawn or plants etc. , de ionized water can’t leave spots. The filters are big (3, four feet tall canisters) and expensive. Culligan charged me $1500, used. Then I use a gas leaf blower to shed the water in the can’t-reach spots. ....Then my detailing spray. The hitch with the DI water is cost and the media in the filters last about 1000 gallons. That’s not a lot. To redeliver new media filters it’s $450 a pop. New filters will yield zero ppm of contaminants.
I loved it when he got the DVDs out and said “you knew this was coming!” Hahahahaha got me good! So good that I will get his video and try it out! It can only help me! But first I will add some crash bars on my bike or I won’t have a bike to show off my skills on lol!
My own little trick for, "blacks". First, none of the black restore products work worth a damn! I use the Turtle Wax spray protectant. My Indian Scout has a lot of black on the engine and a lot of crevices for dust to collect in. I use a soft 1" paint brush to get the dust out of the cracks and crevices. Then, I spray the Turtle Wax protectant on another brush and brush it on! Just a nice, thin coat so it doesn't attract more dust. I use it for all the black plastic parts, radiator hose, etc. It makes my bike look showroom new!
Just use a foam gun with Turtle Wax Snow Foam Wash, allow it to dwell 3-4 minutes, quickly rinse, then blow dry with a pneumatic dryer. Finish it off with a high quality spray detailer/quick wax if necessary. Takes 30 minutes max.
It looks awesome, my Ultra Classic is a bug magnet!! Rode by a lake last weekend at night with my road lights on......and my fairing looks like a bug mass murder :/
I might have to consider getting one of those jacks. It's a pain doing all that with the wheels on the ground. Do you use anything special for the vinyl/leather seats and rubber components?
Hey Jerry, I always enjoy your videos. I have the same bike as your wife's. '12 Cop bike. Do you have a recommendation for where I can get some saddle bag inserts. Driving me crazy. I hate the blank look, but the after market stuff I'm seeing sucks. Thanks and you both ride safe !
Nice advises - especially with wax and about lifting bike before clean - never tought about this in this way. One question - what for this additional fan on right side? Greetings from Poland :-)
Ride Like a Pro Jerry Palladino aaaa ok :-) seems like fan :-) I really like your videos. One year ago I bought my Harley - your movies did teach me a loooot. Especially how operate clutch (friction zone). Thanks a lot again :-)
It looks spotless. I guess the video doesn't show up the dirt you mention. When the video started, I assumed you had just cleaned and polished the bike.
I give a lot of credit to anyone who can own any black vehicle and keep it always looking good.
What kind of brand name of your jack
try using a good quality wide paint brush with the soapy water, for getting into all the small nooks and crannies like engine fins, etc. that a sponge can't reach.
Wax on wax off. Works like a charm
Thanks for mentioning Harbor Freight, Motorman. I just found a motorcycle jack for a good price, and I've been looking big and low for one to pick up my Harley
People say what they will, but Harley Davidsons motorcycles are absolutely the best looking bikes on the planet.
If that wasn't true, then why have all those other companies been trying to copy the HD..
My 2¢ anyway...

I use a air compressor to blow all the water out of the nooks and crannies and helps with the drying process.
I use an electric leaf blower to dry, works great and cheap
@darren watkin This is just my two cents worth but I don't use air compressors for drying due to the fact that they can blow oil and moisture out of the hose. They can also blow water into places it should never be like under gaskets, past o-rings or into bearings. Just food for thought. Ride safe!
Use a cheap small electric leaf blower, works great and has a wider less intense air stream that gently dries the bike.
@@censorship_sucks All good advice most welcome. I have a moisture trap on the airline and can regulate the air pressure.
TomsReviews I bought a cheap Harbor Freight electric blower, and it’s the easiest way I’ve found to dry my bikes.

I've always used Harley Davidson sun was and I was looking for another wash and I did see the 100s product I ended up getting muc off and I was disappointed

was watching this one yesterday (4/21) and i found a bottle of the wax and dry that i didnt know i had. tried it out and omg,,,,shiney wow. did a great job.
Those flooring pads are great to set the bags on!!
Thanks Motorman. Try a leaf blower after you wash, making things so much easier on you. Then wax, with a quality Carnauba wax, twice a year. That's it.
Ya mean like the leaf blower I show in the video?
Nice video! Putting the bike on a jack is a great idea. I use Bugslide between washes. What type of guards are those on the saddlebag guards? I’d put those on my PD bike and my personal bike. If you ever get close to Arkansas, I’d like to meet up. Ride safe!
They are called PROGuards. Available on my website. www.ridelikeapro.com/store/accessories-and-merchandise/pro-guards-engine-guard-protective-covers/
Looking forward to part II - when she washes yours.
hahahaha! Not gonna happen, I'm soooooooooooo busy in the office and running the business, no time for cleaning bikes. :) Sorry, no part II coming anytime soon. :)
Great 👍🏼 tip about the radio 📻 protection 🏍👍🏼
That motorcycle is beautiful!
Jerry try bugslide for in between washes and waxes keeps the bike super clean.
A dirty bike is an escort bike in Ohio winter, salt splattered and slush sprayed
LOOKING GOOD MOTOR MAN
Good jack, I have the same one i think, same colors and aluminum. Got mine from Sears. If anyone is looking, i think harbor has the same thing. Just different color...
Main thing she made it home 🏠 safe n sound 👍🏼
Thank you John Cavar! It was one of those storms that you can't believe erupted around you and manage to come out the other side safe. The weather channel said it was a mini-tornado, I believe it! Never have I ever ridden through such a storm. There was no where to pull over, a transformer blew up and I saw the blue ball of fire travel through the power lines as I was riding under those lines. The winds were 50 to 60 mph gusts, with the rain coming in sideways....The power of prayer and skills got me home in one piece.
Doc Donna so happy 😀 Donna and yr skills, advice etc taught from motorman over the years aka motorman 👍🏼🏍
Stay safe Donna 🌟💐
@@johncavar2914 Thank you!!!
Doc Donna your welcome !
The detail guy at Pensacola HD told me one time he used pledge furniture polish... I tried it and it works like a dream.
I heard that too, but only on the chrome
Another good one! Thanks Jerry
To late for me to order at the moment, Great video, now can you do one for the windshield, such as for Road King? Great stuff, thanks.
Another great video! Thanks Jerry!
Motorman how do you like that jack? I've had mine for 12 years and it was the best money I've spent! Always look forward to your videos.
I like it just fine. I've had to add oil a couple of times but that's it.
@Hello Newman Harbor Freight
It looks awesome, my Ultra Classic is a bug magnet!! Rode by a lake last weekend at night with my road lights on......and my fairing looks like a bug mass murder :/
Once a year I use turtle wax ice, it's the best wax I have ever used, bar none!!! (and I used to clean cars for a living)
I might have to consider getting one of those jacks. It's a pain doing all that with the wheels on the ground. Do you use anything special for the vinyl/leather seats and rubber components?
The turtle wax headlight lense restore is my favorite 2 times a year no more dingy Yellow leanses👍👍👍
If that’s a dirty bike, well you wouldn’t wanna see mine. In my defense I do have to drive on gravel occasionally.
For bugs try bounce dryer sheets get them wet and bugs are easy to take off. There full of water softeners
That bike is cleaner than my bike after it's washed, I can't see any dirt or mud on his ride?
A 2-gallon lawn/weed/ sprayer works nice with your choice of soap or rinse/ wax .
Five minutes in the rain always makes at least four hours of cleaning.
Great looking bike.
Jerry, do you have a video showing how to safely and properly strap and trailer your bike?
I was interested in the jack u used here what kind is it so I can search for one looks like a great tool . Thanks for all the great tips cheers
The motorcycle jack was purchased at Harbor Freight.
Hey Jerry,
I always enjoy your videos. I have the same bike as your wife's. '12 Cop bike. Do you have a recommendation for where I can get some saddle bag inserts. Driving me crazy. I hate the blank look, but the after market stuff I'm seeing sucks. Thanks and you both ride safe !

@@motorman857 Thanks Jerry, you're the best... even if I ride a" chick bike ". ( Grin )
what is the model and name of the bike jack lift ??? where can I get one thank you.
Sears Craftsman aluminum motorcycle jack.
Nice advises - especially with wax and about lifting bike before clean - never tought about this in this way. One question - what for this additional fan on right side? Greetings from Poland :-)
That's a siren speaker.
Ride Like a Pro Jerry Palladino aaaa ok :-) seems like fan :-) I really like your videos. One year ago I bought my Harley - your movies did teach me a loooot. Especially how operate clutch (friction zone). Thanks a lot again :-)
Motormans 3 techniques for keeping the bike clean:
Water
Soap
Dab of wax
wow wish I could move that fast,,, lol thanks for another good video
Hey , I always remember what you told me
“ look where your going”
It's ''look where you want to go''. If you're going towards a tree, you don't want to look where you're going.
Ride Like a Pro Jerry Palladino that’s what I mean!!! Every time I go into a corner I think about what you said!
Live to Ride. Sam
Very nice Motorman. 😊
hello Jerry, my name is happy Jim.I got my cvo from gator,do you know oscar down there at gator? and i absolutally love the work. ty.
Great Job!! What about the chrome? How do you do that?
Dryer sheets after use in dryer are great for removing love bugs and dosnt hurt your paint.
I've found that detail clay works the best.
It looks spotless. I guess the video doesn't show up the dirt you mention. When the video started, I assumed you had just cleaned and polished the bike.
Great video. What kind of Jack are you using? Thanks
I bought it at Harbor Freight years ago.
