BOOM FIXED!!!! the filter screen was clogged AF. I changed the screen which came with the new sensor and it fixed the issue right away.Thank you so much!!! Oh and BTW I used a coarse drywall screw to extract the screen in case anyone was wondering how to get it out.
I have just experienced this over the past few months and after looking into it, I have decided to buy some kerosene, drain the oil, and then fill the pan with kerosene using the dipstick tube (i.e. did not pour kerosene into the engine but directly into the oil pan through the said tube). I left the kerosene in the pan for a bit, drained it and repeated the operation. Left it there again for a bit, drained, changed the filter and refilled with oil and now the gauge is back to normal (i.e. 275 kPa/40 psi at idle and normal operating temperature. In my case, it appears that the bottom of the pan was really dirty, and the pickup screen was sucking in all the gunk in there, causing the loss of pressure and flooding the bottom of the pan and the screen on the pickup tube in kerosene cleaned up the gunk and restored flow.Hope this may work for someone else; it's a first easy step anyone can try with no risk, and it may just work before trying to diagnose further for other causes.
After reading countless posts about transmission fluid in the engine i finally tried it. And ppl i promise "IT WORKED"!! Got my oil pressure back again and freed my stuck lifter. Marvel mystery oil is basically transmission fluid or kerosene..i have personally done this so i can confirm it works.
Yeah that was very helpful. Just bought me a 2010 less then 30days ago. we had our first snow last night drove the truck 5 miles and it started doing this shit. I was about to blow a major gasket on this dealership in the morning till I seen your video. Thanks and if the dealership knew what just about happened they'd be thanking you too lol.
THANK YOU for creating this video!!!! Changing the oil was all I had to do. I was driving my 2007 Tahoe with 230,000 miles yesterday and my oil pressure dropped to zero out of nowhere. I thought it was a blown gasket or some other really bad problem. I simply changed my oil at a Valvoline center and the pressure normalized immediately. WORD OF CAUTION TO ANYONE ELSE WITH THIS ISSUE WITH AN OLDER VEHICLE - I called my reliable mechanic about this issue and strongly recommended AGAINST trying to resolve this issue with a motor oil engine cleaning additive. He said in older engines, the cleaner can shake loose a bunch of carbon and grime within the engine that will not come out by simply draining the oil and that cause other problems in the engine. The guy at the Valvoline station said the same thing.
Respectfully, I disagree. The root cause is the oil filter causing reduced oil flow, low oil pressure and this leads to sludge buildup in very tiny oil ports feeding your camshafts, rocker arms and more. You saw your PSI return not because you changed the oil... but because you changed the filter!!! Problem is, you haven't yet treated the newly formed sludge build up that can clog your oil pressure sensor and oil pick up screens. I like a combo of SeaFoam and Motor Flush. (distinctly different than an Oil additive like Lucas) This uses organic solvents to dissolve any and all sludge and varnish build up throughout the lubrication system and restore your oil pumps efficiency. These solvents don't "shake" anything loose. Crunchy solid carbon deposits only exist inside the combustion chamber where there is no oil. Oil is a liquid, remember. Using motor flush is like putting alkaseltzer in water... it dissolves.. eventually completely. Carbon isn't an issue here because carbon would be on the combustion side of your piston, out of the oil lubrication ports... the only reason you have oil there is if your piston rings are shot and you have oil blow by, which means your engine needs to be replaced anyway and this whole discussion becomes a mute point. So yes... do use a Motor Flush type of solution to fix the sludge issues or they will compound over time and lead to critical failures like timing chains failing = guaranteed motor replacement. Just follow the OEM directions... its not hard. Its $5 to keep your motor clean, reduce heat, reduce wear, and prevent oil passages from clogging = critical engine failure in all cases.
@@columbiariversalmonenhance4050 Respectfully, I disagree. Based on the research I did about that filter screen on the sensor, all the symptoms matched up to that filter being clogged, causing the sensor to not read properly and giving warnings to shut the engine off, etc, but nothing was actually wrong. If the filter was causing low oil flow and virtually no pressure as it was reading, I wouldn't have been able to drive it without issues. There was actually nothing wrong, just a sensor that couldn't read the pressure correctly. Tons of people have experienced this issue with the filter on the sensor.
@@troyy0206 I don't doubt there may be more than one root cause here, as you are pointing out another. But I don't see how simply doing an oil change would fix the pressure sensor issue you are describing. And there a lot of folks who are reporting, here and on other videos, a simple oil change is resolving the issue for them. I'm not saying don't replace your pressure sending unit, or it's screen... but I see no reason why it should be the first step. It's a pain in the azz to get to on the back of the engine. Just my 2 cents.
@@columbiariversalmonenhance4050 There usually are multiple causes for any symptom, but in this case I had searched and searched, then studied the issue once I learned many people were having the same issue. The reason I feel so strongly about it being my cause was that the symptom was oil pressure dropped to nothing but the vehicle ran fine, no leaks, etc, I drove it several miles while it was telling me no oil pressure and to shut off the engine. With high miles I had been running 10W-40 in it for several years to reduce the valve rattle. My theory was the thinner oil would push the grime out. If that hadn't done it, my next step was to do the old gear-head trick of mixing in ATF with the oil to flush it out. After starting it post-oil change it still said low oil pressure and after a few seconds it suddenly popped up and was fine after that. The other reason is that many people replace that filter to solve their issue without doing anything else and they had the same symptoms that my Tahoe had. It seems to be pretty prevalent with the 5.3L's of a certain time frame across the GM lineup. In the end, it had over 305k on it when I traded it in and the only major work I had done to it was replacing the timing chain at 248k.
SOLVED my problem!!!. You saved me $1,600 quote to replaced my Oil pump from the GMC dealer!.. I have a 2007 GMC Yukon XL.. The ODB code indicate the Oil pressure Sensor. So, I had GMC replace my Oil Pressure sensor ($400), but that didn't solve the problem! Then they came back stating the Oil Pump was bad.. That's when I found your video!.. I changed the oil and $75 later.. Oil pressure back to NORMAL!.. Thanks a bunch for your post!.. Yea, baby!!
I would bet that all gm dealers are fully aware of this problem. nice scam for them, charge you $1600 plus for an oil pump, when all they have to do is change out that little filter!
In most cases, just changing the engine oil and filter will solve this problem. Also works for cars of many other brands. The mechanic told me it may because the filter may clogged up and oil pressure becomes low.
I have an 07 Suburban 5.3. I was able to replace the oil pressure sensor and filter from up top. Just have to take the top guard off, move some hoses out of the way and reach back there with the right socket to get the sensor out. Used a pick to pull the little filter out and replace that. Took about an hour. Don't have to take the intake off. There are videos on line that were helpful. The issue was the oil pressure went up to about 80 lbs on my dash gauge. Problem fixed. However I split the little vacuum hose on the back and didn’t see it when took it off the valve cover. It set lean codes for left and right banks along with turning off my anti skid and setting a chassis code. Took me some time and research and a smoke test of the vacuum system to figure it out. Part was free at O’Reilly’s, it was the last six inches of 3/8th ID hose they had, so they gave it to me. I cut off two inches and that took care of all the codes. My advice on the anti skid chassis code is fix all the other codes first.
what should the oil pressure read at idle and while driving? i have the same year as you and model....mines at 40 idle and 60 while driving? is mine normal?
Had 2007 Yukon, gauges showed low oil pressure, and then would go to zero oil pressure. Took to three mechanics and no one could figure, and recommended that I change oil pump. However, with engine running, zero oil pressure on gauges, I hooked test meter and computer showed that I had oil pressure. Long story short. Almost spent a lot of money to have oil pump changed, but something said - I got oil pressure. Pump produces pressure. That is not the problem. Carried to another shop, and they kept car about one hour and called and said problem has solved. The lube shop on last oil change put on the wrong oil filter. Replaced filter, and works like a new car.
I just changed my oil and oil filter and drove around and may have fixed the problem. I have a 2011 GMC Sierra and just started having same issue as you were having. Thanks for the advice save me $$ and head ache.
Always run the recommended oil type viscosity as recommended, and always use Dexos on these GM engines. You'll never have problems. The engineers know what they are doing. My GMC Sierra has 285,000 miles and runs like new. Nice video btw 👍 👍
All that is needed is a 27mm socket, a swivel and a 3" extension to remove the oil pressure switch itself. A small angled pick works perfect to pull it out. Just be careful to not tear up the screen upon removal, unless you are changing it out anyway. Most new oil pressure switches will come with a new screen as well.
and 4' long arm with 3 elbows while hanging from a harness suspended from the ceiling like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible , it's a PITA to reach and get to without removing everything in your way
When you change your oil use a quart of oil flush. Run for a few minutes until warm then change. It will clean any sludge or varnish build up. If you change your oil every 5k miles you shouldn't have any issues. I have a 2004 Yukon XL 5.3 with over 200k keep it clean as a whistle and use high mileage synthetic 5w 30 oil. It should run forever.
Troy Huntley, there is a service bulletin posted in NHTSA involving these years/makes/models: 2007-2011 Cadillac Escalade Models 2007-2011 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe 2010-2011 Chevrolet Camaro 2007-2011 GMC Sierra 1500, Sierra Denali, Yukon Models 2008-2009 Pontiac G8 GT Built Prior to February 1, 2011 (Updated Valve Cover) and October 2010 (AFM Shield) Equipped with Any of the Following Engines: - Aluminum Block V8 Engine with Active Fuel Management (AFM) (RPOs L94, LZ1, L99, LC9, LH6, L76, LFA, L92) - Iron Block V8 Engine with Active Fuel Management (AFM) (RPOs LMG, LY5) - Hybrid Engine (RPO LFA - Only Applies to Hybrid Models Built July 7, 2009 - February 1, 2011 - Prior Builds Not Cast For AFM Valve) These models, with AFM systems, are notorious oil consumers due to bad engineering involving the AFM system. Replacing the valve cover with the updated cover, and installing a deflector shield on the AFM Valve inside the crank case will, in most cases, will eliminate the oil consumption problem. The cover is a simple fix, but you have to drop the oil pan to install the deflector shield. While the pan is dropped, the o-ring/oil pump gasket on the end of the pickup tube should be replaced. I’d also recommend giving the oil pan, and screen/tube of the pickup tube a good cleaning.
My 13 Tahoe gave me the same problem. I put new sending unit, oil pump, pick-up tube & o ring, oil pan gasket kit, everything!!! I still have only about 35lb pressure at 70mph. Now I'm looking into the DOD delete because of agitating push rod knock at start up and sometimes at idle!!! 5.3 is powerful motor but plagued with lubrication issues!!!😐😐😐😐
Mine just came on, same year etc. I had just replaced this sensor last year. My oil actually got low (apparently have an oil cooler line leak) and I think it stirred up some carbon.... Hoping the fresh oil will help clear it out. I don;t want to listen to the ding ding ding ding the whole time driving and I REALLY don't want to go through that mess again trying to get behind the intake.
My 2009 5.3 ALWAYS starts to lose oil pressure when I'm around 3k miles on the oil. The other day I was driving at about 5k miles on the oil (50% on the oil life display) and my pressure slowly dropped to zero. The next morning I changed the oil and filter, and the pressure has been staying above 40. I have no idea why it does this.
Same problem with my 02 Z/28 , put some AMSOIL ENGINE FLUSH in & idled for 15 minutes drained , then put 4 quarts of bulk oil , ran engine again and drained again .....installed WIX filter & Valvoline 10w30 full synthetic high mileage oil . Not only did this do the trick but now my Camaro doesn't have that piston slap tapping sound when cold starting engine !
Thank you for the video. I have an 08, and cold start is at the 25 psi area, however mine goes up to the 40 psi after the 10 minutes of running. Could this screen be causing that as well, or something different ? Also, I just noticed today I have a tiny oil leak, looks like it could be from up in that area too. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
10W-40 is the wrong oil. It contains about 12-15% polymer that will leave deposits in the engine. Better to use 5W-40 or 10W-30 heavy duty Diesel engine oil. OEMS have stated not use 10W-40's anymore.
Same issue 07 Tahoe. I changed the sensor and screen (it's a itch, but it can be done with wobble extensions and a lot of bad words) but still have the same problem. There must be some gunk below the new little micro filer. I will try thinner oil and maybe a flush. Been running 15w-50 with 190K on the engine.
The oil sending unit sensor is very easy to change. No need in removing anything but the sensor with the right tools. It is hard however to clean the screen as it is part of the VLOM (valve lifter oil manifold), the part that controls when the engine goes into V4 or V8 mode.
Harley G mine did the same thing I went and bought the sending unit and nothing then I changed the oil and bamm normal it does fluactiat but it stays normal.
Yup i had the same exact problem. I replaced the sensor thinking it was that but still had the same problem. This time I made sure I used an Ac delco filter because I read that it had some kind of valve that others dont
Thanks for the video I recently went to a thicker oil for high mileage and my 2010 Silverado started showing low oil pressure right after that oil change. My oil pressure sensor and screen filter we're placed not too long ago they're brand new, so I'm gonna go back to 5w30 oil change and see if that helps bring back oil pressure where it should be. Thanks again!
My oil pressure gauge reads normal but on the odometer it'll say low oil but only when I turn on the car after driving somewhere and restarting the car any idea??
FIXED! I changed my oil (5w-30) and filter and now have my oil pressure back! thanks a lot p.s it takes like 7 seconds for the sensor to respond when you start it after changing the oil.
These trucks are very delicate if oil wear happens before maintenance light comes on oil pressure will drop drastically, I recommend just doing oil changes every 3,500 especially if it’s high mileage or you tow often. Also put Lucas oil treatment mileage might drop but pressure won’t 😊
I am having the same issue on my 08 Silverado 5.3 i changed the oil pressure sensor and filter inside its a very tight fix i did it without taking the intake out. Very patient job. After replacing it my check engine light went off and oil gauge worked but still lower pressure after watching other videos finding out I need to replace the oil Oring inside oil pan
I have a 2007 suburban, soon after I got it I got the stopengine/reduced engine power. wouldent go more than 5 mph before stalling out, was hard to get started agin. used dealer came and got it, thank god it was before 30 day warranty was over. first thing they did was changed the oil sending unit, got it back, 2 or 3 days latter happens agin, they come and got it agin, speny forever playing with it trying to figure it out, sent to a gm dealer, after a week they replaced thottlebody, ran good for about a week or so, same happens agin. they came and got it agin and agin was stumped, I happen to find one of the few vids on here that talk about the screen filter that is in the intake under the sending unit, called them and mentioned it, was told oh they already checked that, (yea sure they did) he calls me next day when I'm getting off work and says its fixed, guess what it was, the filter in the intake, what happejns is when it gets clogged it makes it think the sending unit is bad, truth is that when that happens the pressure is not getting to it which can make it go bad as well, but if you have replaced sending unit and are still having the same issue, the stupid little retarded screen filter would be the next thing I would do. oh yea, one of the sympoms also was that even after replacing the sending unit, it was still reading very low pressure which as it ran slowly went down to nothing, and then the stop engine/reduced engine power would happen. hope this info helps somone:)
good video. i did oil change and nothing. so now its on to the sensor/sending unit.hopefully i can just clean it instead of replacing it.thanks for the info man i'll let ya know the out come
I don't think this was it because it only showed there was no oil pressure but it was actually fine and was running fine. Based on the research I did about that filter screen on the sensor, all the symptoms matched up to that filter being clogged, causing the sensor to not read properly and giving warnings to shut the engine off, etc, but nothing was actually wrong.
@troyy0206 We have a 13 and my wife called on interstate saying everything was going off to shut engine down. She said the oil pressure was almost 0. I drove out there and found no leaks. Oil level was fine. I told her to start it and it went up to 20. She continued to the next town and while at an idle while we switched vehicles it was around 15, 18. I drove it home at 20 and pulled it in the garage. I dropped the oil and changed the filter and it popped back up to 42 cold. After running and warmed up it idles at about 28 or so. I questioned if this is almost too low at idle, but it seems they are all over the board. Running down the road (which they claim is irrelevant) its says about 36 @ 55mph.
Had the low oil pressure problem where it would tell me to turn off the engine after losing power. Ended up being a clogged oil filter from using stop leak. For.ed a big chunk of goo in the pan. Cleaned it out and changed the filter which fixed the problem.
There several reasons for low oil pressure oring around pick up tube oil sending unit screen for oil sending unit sludge or dirt and grime clogging oil filter oil pump bad a valve in the oil pump not closing properly causing the system to not hold pressure. Start with the cheapest and work your way to the most expensive these are all known problems with GM
Can this cause your dipstick to feel really hot and see steam coming out of the dipstick home because that’s what mine does I can barely touch the dipstick
troyy0206 I had the warning come on this week on my 07Tahoe. My oil was changed 1.5 months ago and I have no driven on any long drives. I been using 10W30HM. I had the sensor replaced and the filter checked. The issue still remains. The warning appears after you drive the car and the engine heats up, the oil pressure drops. What should I try next?
I've seen this on two different Suburbans. Was driving one today, warning came on and said to stop engine. when I'd give it some throttle it would go out but then if I'd go back to maintaining a steady speed the warning would come back on after a minute or so. Seems to be a GM issue with the Suburbans /Tahoes. I drive a lot of cars at work and have never seen this on anything else
Any more issues after the change? I just bought a 08 suburban 5.3 today from a dealership and not even 6 hrs later I had the same prompt pop up on my dash. Pressure would start at rt at 40 then then drop to 20 then 0 and dash would display that message. Any help would be grateful before I am stuck with a lemon
I would immediately have the oil changed and put 5W30 in it and see if clears it up. If it hadn't cleared mine up, my next step was going to be to drain half the oil and mix in 50% automatic transmission fluid and run it a few minutes to see if that would clear it out. I had watched several videos and done a lot of research that showed a lot of old-school mechanics would use ATF at 50/50 to clean gunk out of the engine. I had no more issues after this and actually just this past week traded in the tahoe with 305,529 miles on it. It had about 244,000 or so on it when this happened.
troyy0206 it was just a real downer for it to happened not even 6hrs after I signed the papers. In desperation of needing a vehicle since my 05 Silverado is in the shop for repairs and my box truck cant tow anything since it's not set up to do that. And I havent had anything newer than this used 08 I just got today. So I could go do a job. Never even made it to work today because of all the wrong things happening today let alone all week for me. But again thank you for your response its greatly appreciated.
I am having a similar problem with my '04 tahoe, when driving my oil pressure gauge will drop and the low oil pressure alarm will go off, I just changed the oil pressure switch at the back of the motor with no success bit my question is, when you were able to get the screen removed does it need to go back in the motor or can it be run without it?
+Tim Singletary I did not have to change mine as the oil change cleared out whatever was clogging it. My understanding is that it is a filter for the valves or something, I can't remember exactly what it was called, so I would assume it must go back in.
I have a 2007 Chevy Suburban that I was experiencing low oil pressure with so I change my oil from 5w 30 to 10w 40 and now my oil pressure is where it should be.
10w30 seems to work good with high mileage 5.3s. The clearances in the engine changes over time and you need to bump weights up after your vehicle is considered s high mileage vehicle. Also Lucas high mileage oil stabilizer helps with raising oil pressure
I am dealing with this situation also. I just bought the truck with 71k miles and she starts up at 35 to 40psi and once she is warm it's about 18-20... Ugh
hey thank you. my problem is I replaced both the sender and screen, drove it about 1.5 miles and it did it again. so now i need to figure out what to do next. Any possibility there is still contaminants plugging the screen that fast? I have always run 5w-30 up here in MN.
I changed my oil pump, pickup tube, and timing chain and my stupid 02 5.3l Avalanche still has low oil pressure and that annoying lifter noise! I'll try switching back 5w30 and flushing all that sludge out of my engine my mechanic seen but couldn't reach!
Hello by chance was this as well for a 2007 GMC Yukon Denali cuz I'm having this problem as well and people are saying that they think it's the fuel pump regulator but I watch this video in this is the same thing that's going on with my Denali when I drive the oil pressure gauge will go down and when that goes down my Denali will stall out help please
If it stalls when the pressure goes down it might actually be a bad oil pump. Mine would drop on the gauge but no other issues, the filter on the sensor was just not allowing the sensor to read the pressure properly due to it being clogged.
When these engines lose oil pressure the computer goes into what's called "limp mode" which drastically reduces power and can even cause stalls. Will actually shut the fuel pump off completely once it reads ZERO oil pressure. Definitely get your oil pressure issue resolved first (sensor, screen, pick-up tube, oil and filter, etc.) and then see if there are any other issues or if that clears it ALL up! 👍🏼
fyi you do not need to pull the intake to replace your oil pressure sending unit I have 08 silverdao a changed mine out it's a tight fit but can be done with an extension and swivel the filter slips right out once you pull the sensor
Definitely NOT "easier" to pull the entire intake fellas...that's like pulling the engine to remove the transmission. Right tool for the right job works wonders! Yes, it's tight but FAR from impossible. Plus, it's like a spark plug...as soon as it's broken loose (even just a little) it'll spin right out with your fingertips...
The trucks actually have a bigger engine bay believe it or not the tahoe and suburban actually have different engine bays that are tighter more compact
Oil oil OIL. Change it every 3000 NOT 5000 in these engines. Full synthetic, HIGH grade filter, clean the intake, change the air filter every other oil change. They are awesome engines but like anything that is premium, they requires premium care. Ever known an incredibly smart and beautiful woman that isn't high maintenance?? Case closed.
This was the only issue I had with the oil and that was at like 240k miles, most of it highway running 80-85mph. I ran conventional oil in it from the day I had it and changed it when it told me to which was every 10k miles and it had 305k miles on it when I traded it in and it was still running great.
@@MikeGScott-kn4rq Timing chain broke at like 248k and the mechanic told me by the look of the cylinders I would get at least another 100k out of it. Those engines are beasts, IMO.
hmm I'm running factory 5-30 already, currently have just under 20 psi at hot idle going up to 40 ish when driving. Wonder if I should run some seafoam through the oil.
Warranty replaced my oil pressure sensor then i put 5-30w royal purple with RP filter and lucas stabilizer it has helped but will still drop to maybe 15-20psi hot idle which still scares me
My psi improved a bit after tightening oil filter🤔 it had small leak, running seafoam in oil, and doing an oil change. Sits a little over 20 at hot idle now
I have an 08 5.3 flex fuel cold startup oil pressure runs at 20 maybe 18 motor will tick give little throttle pressure comes up tick goes away it will do this till up to operating temp then pressure it's normal range 35-38psi at idle then 45-50psi at driving speeds I've changed the sender and screen and oil still same am I looking at our pump getting weak or am I looking at new rod and main bearings anyone have any suggestions
I had same problem. Changed oil pressure switch with no fix. Added STP oil treatment and problem went away. Apparently 5W-30 is too thin. You need a thicker oil if you have high mileage in your vehicle.
hi...i just change gasket and oil on my 02 silverado, now i got low oil pressure, gauge come down 0, i change oil sensor unit, still doing same..... thanks any coment.....
I'm having the same issue and I have replaced everything its all brand new and still have no oil pressure!! Its zero and tells me to turn off engine? Any ideas please
I changed the oil sensor and the oil pump it still the same problem oil pressure when i start the engine is between 20 - 30 then it's decreasing until reach 5 - 15 and i don't know what to do .
This is also indicative of worn crankshaft bearings. Higher oil pressure when cold, lower oil pressure when warmed up is a HUGE clue. Also, you may experience "ok" oil pressure when driving down the road, but when you come to a stop and the oil pressure drops due to lower RPM, it is USUALLY worn crankshaft bearings, which let's more oil escape from the pressurized circuit.
Okbah Hejazy wish I saw your post sooner. The relief valve is known to fail it’s attached to inner part of oil pan above oil filter. Hopefully your fixed by now though!
I have this issue myself on my 2005 2500HD. I wish I would have seen this video first b 4 I changed my sending unit and screen. Cuz its still shows low but it low oil pressure... I'm going to change my oil next... Dam it!
My check engine light on my 2011 Avalanche (5.3L) has been going on and off intermittently for the past two months. Took it and had it scanned and it came up as an oil pressure sensor. My gauge has been reading pretty consistently, not really going high or low. So I kind of dismissed it. I do have an oil change due here in a couple of weeks....I'll see if that solves my problem!
I haven't had to have the oil changed yet. (I still have a good 20% oil life left) so, I'm guessing I'll have to change it by the end of the month. I'll update you once it's done and I've driven it some. I hope it does as I don't want to spend $300 to have it changed. Lovely NY state won't pass a vehicle with a check engine light, so I have until February to get it taken care of!
Had my oil changed last week. The check engine light went out about ten minutes after I picked up the truck and hasn't been back on since! So I guess it worked! If it comes back on, I'll let you know.
same issue w mine now 2012 silverado 120k just changed oil and it's at 20 and hasn't dropped again like it was.. but still only 20... maybe I need that screen filter
Pickup tube o ring my gauge was going down to like 6 psi at idle when driving I would be at around 20 changed the o ring now pressure doesn't drop below 30 at idle and 40-50 when driving stupid 3$ o ring
Joseph Inbody I have 09 6.0 Sierra my gauge dropped to 0 and stayed there. No oil light but got a check engine light. Had oil pressure just bad sensor. After fixed sensor works perfectly
hey my name is Lorenzo I have a problems I have an chevrolet avalanche 2004 and my pression is to low went I am driving my pression is good but wen I stop my presssion go. down like. 25 I went I run my truck like for 45 minutes something star nucking in the moter

Hey quick question how long did you leave the kerosene in the pan before draining thanks
I changed my oil & filter and the PSI gauge improved ! So far it works.
you are the man for this video, change the oil and oil filter and boooooom oil pressure back to normal ,god bless you ,gracias
How much did you put in?
Did you add it to the oil before you drained and changed it?
Marvel Mystery oil works great for cleaning out an engine. Helps with the sticky lifters that the LS engines are notorious about.
Oh no!!! Well she's pretty fresh for another 200k. Lol!
That Shit Destroyed my Eng Noo Wayyy
Yeah that was very helpful. Just bought me a 2010 less then 30days ago. we had our first snow last night drove the truck 5 miles and it started doing this shit. I was about to blow a major gasket on this dealership in the morning till I seen your video. Thanks and if the dealership knew what just about happened they'd be thanking you too lol.
+Troy Young Don't know yet. it was to late to go anywhere and find out. but I'm gonna change the screen. Hell I still got 75% life on this oil change.
+Troy Young Luckily mine has warranty. So in the morning I'm calling the dealership.
T 27 mm to take off and 1 1/16 '' for the new one. Deep well sockets
Thanks for the heads up on the little screen. That makes sense as to why the oil pressure gets better after an oil change.
Thanks for the video! Very helpful. I used motor flush instead of transmission fluid and replace the o-ring on the oil Pan.
Yea, baby!!
+Randy Navarro Wow that's awesome!!!
I would bet that all gm dealers are fully aware of this problem. nice scam for them, charge you $1600 plus for an oil pump, when all they have to do is change out that little filter!
Aiden Doyle where is that little filter ?? Are you talking about the oil filter ??
Take the oil pan off you will see that little screen filter might have to pull the transmission
@@marcoperez703 the filter is under the oil pressure sensor

As long as it stays above 20 psi at idle either hot or cold AND increases with RPM increase you're good 👍🏼
I thank the Lord God for your Video, I was stressed big time, I changed the Oil and that fixed the problem.
That's my truck too! All sorts of issues now that it's old...
Always run the recommended oil type viscosity as recommended, and always use Dexos on these GM engines. You'll never have problems. The engineers know what they are doing. My GMC Sierra has 285,000 miles and runs like new. Nice video btw 👍 👍
Well in certain areas u can use thicker oil
HEYY HEYY HEYYY First i wana say i usually dont comment nore like but your video solved my curiosity and i am very grateful thnx 🤙
I’m driving now from Florida to Boston towing a boat and this like came out of nowhere.
All that is needed is a 27mm socket, a swivel and a 3" extension to remove the oil pressure switch itself. A small angled pick works perfect to pull it out. Just be careful to not tear up the screen upon removal, unless you are changing it out anyway. Most new oil pressure switches will come with a new screen as well.
and 4' long arm with 3 elbows while hanging from a harness suspended from the ceiling like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible , it's a PITA to reach and get to without removing everything in your way
It ain't that bad bro, I promise! lol
Drop pan, replace o ring on oil pickup where it bolts to block.
I removed and cleaned out the oil pan replaced new gasket and cleaned the little filter screen and problem solved.🎉
Troy Huntley, there is a service bulletin posted in NHTSA involving these years/makes/models: 2007-2011 Cadillac Escalade Models
2007-2011 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe
2010-2011 Chevrolet Camaro
2007-2011 GMC Sierra 1500, Sierra Denali, Yukon Models
2008-2009 Pontiac G8 GT
Built Prior to February 1, 2011 (Updated Valve Cover) and October 2010 (AFM Shield) Equipped with Any of the Following Engines:
- Aluminum Block V8 Engine with Active Fuel Management (AFM) (RPOs L94, LZ1, L99, LC9, LH6, L76, LFA, L92)
- Iron Block V8 Engine with Active Fuel Management (AFM) (RPOs LMG, LY5)
- Hybrid Engine (RPO LFA - Only Applies to Hybrid Models Built July 7, 2009 - February 1, 2011 - Prior Builds Not Cast For AFM Valve)
These models, with AFM systems, are notorious oil consumers due to bad engineering involving the AFM system.
My issue was a cheap oil filter. Cost me a full engine rebuild. Would lose pressure when warm. Be sure to replace oil filter with high quality one.
what brand was the cheap one? don't want to buy one.
Did you ever have the issues resolved. I have the exact same problem...
I have the same issue.
I had the same problem, dealer said he would give me a good price NOT, CHANGED OIL AND FILTER working just fine. THANKS
Thank you
Did you ever Figure out what that was? I had the same issue
Mine was doing the same thing. Changed the oring on the oil pickup pipe in the oil pan. Fixed it. Changed the oil sensor filter also.
Where is located ?
10W-40 is the wrong oil. It contains about 12-15% polymer that will leave deposits in the engine. Better to use 5W-40 or 10W-30 heavy duty Diesel engine oil. OEMS have stated not use 10W-40's anymore.
Thanks I am going to try it out. My mechanic said to use thick oil so I been using 10w-40
Is the screen under the sending unit itself or in its own area below where the sending unit goes into the engine? Thanks.
The oil sending unit sensor is very easy to change. No need in removing anything but the sensor with the right tools. It is hard however to clean the screen as it is part of the VLOM (valve lifter oil manifold), the part that controls when the engine goes into V4 or V8 mode.
iAm Wolfie it is alot harder on the tahoe/suburban than on the pickuos... it's a tad tighter.
Yes, tighter but still ain't all that bad with a little patience...
I wish I would've saw this before I changed the sensor. Changed the oil and boom high pressure again!
Harley G Dang! I tried to spread the word!
+troyy0206 Glad i saw this, I have the exact same problem. Oil change tommorow baby woot.
mikenamanda when you changed your oil, did it fix the problem? And if so, what kind of oil did you put in?
That All I Ever Use 5w30 YessZziirr 💯
My oil pressure gauge reads normal but on the odometer it'll say low oil but only when I turn on the car after driving somewhere and restarting the car any idea??
FIXED! I changed my oil (5w-30) and filter and now have my oil pressure back! thanks a lot
p.s it takes like 7 seconds for the sensor to respond when you start it after changing the oil.
David Gamez What kind of oil you use
David Gamez you just change oil anda oil filter ??
These trucks are very delicate if oil wear happens before maintenance light comes on oil pressure will drop drastically, I recommend just doing oil changes every 3,500 especially if it’s high mileage or you tow often. Also put Lucas oil treatment mileage might drop but pressure won’t 😊
I changed the oil when it told me which was 10k miles. The Tahoe had 305k on it and started every day when I traded it in with no oil usage.
@@TroyTube with the recommended oil grade? And high mileage 😟

i would clean out the oil pressure relief valve while you are there
I have a 2007 suburban, soon after I got it I got the stopengine/reduced engine power. wouldent go more than 5 mph before stalling out, was hard to get started agin. used dealer came and got it, thank god it was before 30 day warranty was over. first thing they did was changed the oil sending unit, got it back, 2 or 3 days latter happens agin, they come and got it agin, speny forever playing with it trying to figure it out, sent to a gm dealer, after a week they replaced thottlebody, ran good for about a week or so, same happens agin. they came and got it agin and agin was stumped, I happen to find one of the few vids on here that talk about the screen filter that is in the intake under the sending unit, called them and mentioned it, was told oh they already checked that, (yea sure they did) he calls me next day when I'm getting off work and says its fixed, guess what it was, the filter in the intake, what happejns is when it gets clogged it makes it think the sending unit is bad, truth is that when that happens the pressure is not getting to it which can make it go bad as well, but if you have replaced sending unit and are still having the same issue, the stupid little retarded screen filter would be the next thing I would do. oh yea, one of the sympoms also was that even after replacing the sending unit, it was still reading very low pressure which as it ran slowly went down to nothing, and then the stop engine/reduced engine power would happen. hope this info helps somone:)
Ain’t nobody reading this fucking essay bro
I use the oil leak synthetic oil.. basically I have a leak. Manifold. Put. 2 bottles for in .. now everything runnings good
good video. i did oil change and nothing. so now its on to the sensor/sending unit.hopefully i can just clean it instead of replacing it.thanks for the info man i'll let ya know the out come
+BLACKtoothGRIN do not just clean it replace it its a bitch to get out and clean and not that much to replace just replace it !
How many miles on your last oil change? It's possible your oil filter was in bypass also causing low pressure.
Can you just cause your check oil dipstick to feel really hot when you check the oil because mines is on fire and steam comes out
what do i do if the problem continues? it runs fine but they gauge does not want to go back up
Thank you for your video! I came here curious if my oil pressure was low, dropping or normal. Based on what I heard and saw I'm doing ok.
Had the low oil pressure problem where it would tell me to turn off the engine after losing power. Ended up being a clogged oil filter from using stop leak. For.ed a big chunk of goo in the pan. Cleaned it out and changed the filter which fixed the problem.
So all you didn’t was clean the oil pan .. I did the same thing using the stop leak .. now the pressure light came on
There several reasons for low oil pressure oring around pick up tube oil sending unit screen for oil sending unit sludge or dirt and grime clogging oil filter oil pump bad a valve in the oil pump not closing properly causing the system to not hold pressure. Start with the cheapest and work your way to the most expensive these are all known problems with GM
yes thank uuuuu I was having the same problem and I change my oil like you should just do it and it worked thank you
CALI 817 what Kind of oil did u use ??
Can this cause your dipstick to feel really hot and see steam coming out of the dipstick home because that’s what mine does I can barely touch the dipstick
Your engine is going to run at 200-210 degrees so it's gonna be hot.
troyy0206 I had the warning come on this week on my 07Tahoe. My oil was changed 1.5 months ago and I have no driven on any long drives. I been using 10W30HM. I had the sensor replaced and the filter checked. The issue still remains. The warning appears after you drive the car and the engine heats up, the oil pressure drops. What should I try next?
Sounds like the o Ring on the pickup tube in the oil pan.
Valve cover updated one
after changing the 10w40 how many miles should i run before i change back to 5w30?
I've seen this on two different Suburbans. Was driving one today, warning came on and said to stop engine. when I'd give it some throttle it would go out but then if I'd go back to maintaining a steady speed the warning would come back on after a minute or so. Seems to be a GM issue with the Suburbans /Tahoes. I drive a lot of cars at work and have never seen this on anything else
+MNRick041 based on the feedback in the comments it's very common on GM 5.3L engines
Thanks !!!!!! You saved me a trip to Chevy and $$$$
Hi is it still ok to drive the truck if it still beeping low oil pressure truck does have oil
In my scenario the sensor was reading low oil pressure but it was fine so I was able to drive without issue.
My 2019 truck had 1.5 litres of too much oil from the factory. An oil change fixed the problem.
I have a 2007 Chevy Suburban that I was experiencing low oil pressure with so I change my oil from 5w 30 to 10w 40 and now my oil pressure is where it should be.
So the oil cam be the problem?? 😏 my suburban when its could it has 30 and when is hot i don't go more than 45 any idea what can i do to fix it
10w30 seems to work good with high mileage 5.3s.
Ugh
did you ever find out what was wrong with yours?
oil pick up tube o ring will also cause a low oil pressure light.
There was no actual low oil pressure, it was the filter on the pressure sensor.
man..thanks for this video. .it just happened to me right now..I freaked out. .I'm changing oil now hopefully it will works. .
Did it work?
hey thank you. my problem is I replaced both the sender and screen, drove it about 1.5 miles and it did it again. so now i need to figure out what to do next. Any possibility there is still contaminants plugging the screen that fast? I have always run 5w-30 up here in MN.
Did you change the oil beforehand, too?
I changed my oil pump, pickup tube, and timing chain and my stupid 02 5.3l Avalanche still has low oil pressure and that annoying lifter noise! I'll try switching back 5w30 and flushing all that sludge out of my engine my mechanic seen but couldn't reach!
I did it today no need to move any lines at all did have to buy a socket found no screen in mine and my pressure is still at 20
Hello by chance was this as well for a 2007 GMC Yukon Denali cuz I'm having this problem as well and people are saying that they think it's the fuel pump regulator but I watch this video in this is the same thing that's going on with my Denali when I drive the oil pressure gauge will go down and when that goes down my Denali will stall out help please
Who told you that? Fuel in top end, oil in bottom.
fyi you do not need to pull the intake to replace your oil pressure sending unit I have 08 silverdao a changed mine out it's a tight fit but can be done with an extension and swivel the filter slips right out once you pull the sensor
+motoxchris I've seen that it can be done, but I couldn't do it. It's a PITA location, that's for sure.
@@TroyTubeI'd call you the exception definitely not the rule. 10K intervals m, esp with these engines is Russian roulette IMO

Tino hello im having the same problem have you fixed yours yet
No haven't tried to fix it yet
me too...exactly tha way you described it.
You need a thicker oil if you have high mileage in your vehicle.
rruizproductions what about if i have low millage
Thanks, Mine does it to 2013 chevy 1500.
Thank you for the video very good work....
Very helpful
Negative temps got my shit all fucked up think this is my problem though thanks.
hi...i just change gasket and oil on my 02 silverado, now i got low oil pressure, gauge come down 0, i change oil sensor unit, still doing same..... thanks any coment.....
I'm having same issue what was the fix ?
I'm having the same issue and I have replaced everything its all brand new and still have no oil pressure!! Its zero and tells me to turn off engine? Any ideas please
The Oil pump
Is your truck knockin and clanging ???? Pine hollow guy did electrical diagnostics and found bad wire at sensor.
so basically had you stayed with the recommended viscosity for that engine you would have never had this problem
Dr. Seymour Butts seeing how this is an extremely common problem, I doubt that.
MIKE HUNT lol ppl kill me I was thinking the same thing....
I use 5w30 but mine idles and 20-22 psi.
What would the problem be of you hear ticking in engine
runner506 im having this problem but with a tick sounds like a valve but not sure
Relief valve in oil pan above filter. Must remove pan!
Exhaust manifold
I changed the oil sensor and the oil pump it still the same problem oil pressure when i start the engine is between 20 - 30 then it's decreasing until reach 5 - 15 and i don't know what to do .
Did you change the screen under the sensor or clean the screen?
There is a tiny oil filter/screen below the oil sending unit, just inside the threaded part. That most likely needs to be cleaned or replaced.
Always run recommended oil viscosity. 5w 30 in these 5.3..
That's the GM spec but I was running a heavier oil to cut down on valve rattle.
thanks save me money today just change oil
I have this issue myself on my 2005 2500HD.
I wish I would have seen this video first b 4 I changed my sending unit and screen.
Cuz its still shows low but it low oil pressure...
I'm going to change my oil next...
Dam it!
Please reply with the results and let us know if it fixes the issue or not.
did it fix it?
The suburban ones are easy to change, my corvette on the other hand are a bitch to change
I still cant figure out how to turn the oil pressure light off
disconnect the battery, wait 5 minutes, reconnect
Also check o ring from oil pump
same issue w mine now 2012 silverado 120k just changed oil and it's at 20 and hasn't dropped again like it was.. but still only 20... maybe I need that screen filter
Stephen Waite the screen filter is inside the sensor preassure ?
This problem cost me like $1000. POS design took the mechanic 6 hours.
Hey buddy what was your problem?
very helpful video thanks
Pickup tube o ring my gauge was going down to like 6 psi at idle when driving I would be at around 20 changed the o ring now pressure doesn't drop below 30 at idle and 40-50 when driving stupid 3$ o ring

steve cascallares para que el congreso se pronuncie en un acto que no sea un
steve cascallares common is pickup oring or sender
steve cascallares how do I change the o ring and where is it?
I think it's a 27mm Socket fits that
Oil Sending Unit close nuff 2 work !
PRICEY SPEC. SOCKET NOT NEEDED!
21 millimeter deep well socket
1 1/16th 12 point deep well socket works perfect 👍🏼
will the red oil can light come on and beep with this bad sensor
Joseph Inbody I have 09 6.0 Sierra my gauge dropped to 0 and stayed there. No oil light but got a check engine light. Had oil pressure just bad sensor. After fixed sensor works perfectly
I just changed screen and sensor and still having problem , any ideas ?
Screen was problem on mine it was all gunky c
How did you fix the problem?
Fernando Cabrera That is explained at about 2:15 in the video
we have 2008 Chevy Avalanche and we have a bad oil pressuer filter
hey my name is Lorenzo I have a problems I have an chevrolet avalanche 2004 and my pression is to low went I am driving my pression is good but wen I stop my presssion go. down like. 25 I went I run my truck like for 45 minutes something star nucking in the moter
