I'm a motorcycle camper(i pack my gear on a motorcycle and each day i camp in a different place) and this cup is a life saver, small enough to pack but big enough to cook canned food, economic and just Amazing!!!! Great video!!
Thanks. I didn't know the cook set could hang from the lid tang. This is my favorite because of the thick cups I'm not burning my hand holding them and then drinking cold coffee within the same minute.
I've never seen a long haired hippy baton a long stick of wood with a tiny knife so he could break it. Bravo. Word to the wise. Batoning is done to expose the dry portion (the inside) of the wood so it can be used to start a fire, especially in otherwise wet conditions. Upgrade your blade by about 3x the length and split logs.
It was his choice of mallet that required him to beat the heck out his knife. His knife is just fine. As for your stated reason for batoning, that is only one of many reasons to baton wood. Simply turning fuel into kindling and kindling into tinder are two reasons whether the wood is wet or not. Perhaps you should take a more positive approach Howie instead of being a jerk. If you can’t do that, at least know what you’re talking about. Then we can all say well yes he’s a jerk but he’s right. As it stands now, you’ve acted like a jerk and you’re wrong. So much to work on!
Honestly, I was more interested in your pot-hanging stick set-up than the pot. That's sweet, and I wish I had known that stupid-simple thing this weekend when I went out. Thank you.
you know what? It takes bloke to not think out things to hard to come up what I consider you discovering the best way to hang that pot. Mate! thanks from down under.
lol, I have the exact same setup GSI cup with Stanley cook cup, great combo. I ditched the plastic cups. I replaced the plastic tab on the lid with key ring which works great. I looped picture wire around the brim to hang mine. Great video. Jason
Great piece of kit. One thing you might add to yours is a Sea to Summit long spoon. Good for eating out of the Stanley or dehydrated foil packs. About 9 dollars.
Thanks for showing us your modified hanging handle. Do you think I could make a similar handle, but from jumbo 📎paperclips? I have gobs 9f paperclips around my house.
I'm glad you reviewed this. Didn't have a money for a titanium set, and because I'm not so concerned about weight, I figured this would do the job. Your vid confirmed that before I went out in 10 deg F weather with it. lol
Great video man! I really like that little mod you did to hang it from the fire, however it did not come with a hanger because in the instructions it says not to put it in an open flame, I'm not sure why but that's the way I've used mine also.
Enjoyed your video--- especialy how you set it up to hang. I have the same setup which I purchased from Walmart for $14.95. And I bought the Chinese stainless steel knock off of the GSI cup for $5.00 also at Walmart and it fits perfectly under the Stanley pot. Did you have a problem with the green handle on the lid melting? Some guys replace it with a key, ring but I am not sure if it is necessary.
Remember watching Ron hood and if you already have the can of food you could save cleaning by either cooking it in the fire or put the can in the pot and boil water in it with the can also inside. After done eating pour the hot water in can to rinse or get that last bit of nutrients from the inside of the can. Just my .02
buck doesn't get enough credit for awesome blades, especially ones that are good for camping, I own both the woodsman and vanguard and both are awesome for bushcraft.
I agree. They make really great knives. I think the problem lies in that both the Vanguard and the Woodsman are primarily hunting knives. They are amazing for skinning or processing animals but the rat tail tang sort of limits the amount of punishment they can take. But I have punished my woodsman pretty hard and it's still around. Alot of people think that just because something has a rat tang that it's useless.. but it's not the case.
ok this has been on my list for some time - now I have it and I'm not sure I love it - Im just used to the shorter 'mug' size and it's a little tall but still a really great value! Walmart $12!!
dude! noticing your hangar for over the fire,. You really can't cook too much in it, as the weight of it would open that lid right up and everything will spill onto the ground. Glad I tested it with a full cup of water in my sink before applying your idea in the field.
I should have read your remarks before I commented, cuz I was wondering the same thing. David Gilmore (below) suggested clipping the handle closed but I'm not sure how I'd do that exactly. Yeah, water can get pretty heavy.
Hey Talon. I have just discovered this video (and cookware). Very nice presentation. And otherwise, your videos are very interesting. Good cut .. and great music (which you yourself do yeah) Yeah ! , and your pronunciation is even for inexperienced European ears easy to understand. ;) Since I'm about to leave a subscription (I'm No 555) - my first in the English-speaking world. ;) I wish you much fun in nature and sent you some greetings from Hamburg / Germany
that Stanly is bitchen. it nests a small gass canister and my firebox nano titanium with an alcohol burner and a gass burner as well and it nests inside my titaniam bot bottle inside a bottle carrier with space to spare. that way you have a nalgene size titanium open mout bot for water supply or filtering. a solid cooking pot and a choice of 3 burning options.
I'd like to put a bale wire through the lid of my Stanley also, but I'm worried about that handle holding the lid on securely. I see it did okay with the beans that you had in it, but what if you filled it up to the top with water. Think it would still hold? I guess what I'm saying Is: "I want you to test it out first!" :-) Thanks for the video.
Nice to see someone actually using the product to cook in. Great review, personally I don't like the plastic tab at the top not the plastic cups but thats mainly because I try not to use or purchase plastic given its really bad for our environment.
David Wood it's supposedly relatively safe to cook in with lower viscosity foods, like chicken noodle soup, but not higher viscosity like chowder, tomato soup or baked beans.
I cut the plastic green tab off the lid of my Stanley cook and replaced it with a small metal loop made from a coat hanger and you can throw that whole bitch right in the fire and not have to worry. Just a suggestion, take it or leave it. Good video though
Well... if it was an empty can, I'd agree with you. But a can full of mostly liquid, not so much. some cans are plastic lined, and most cans have an adhesive gum where the metal is rolled. But if you put that in a fire, the water in the food keeps the temp from getting high enough to melt/burn. You can put a plastic water bottle full of water in a fire, and boil it, but you can't with an empty because it will melt. Look for the youtube vid where they boil water in a plastic bag.
+overgrow00 I'd agree... except the guy brought a wet can of beans, opened it, and then poured it into the stanley. If you're going to bring canned food, and it needs to be heated.. might as well just put the can in the fire. If nothing else.. less to clean up.
Yes you are correct. Let's just pretend the beans were ..... Cattail tubers or rabbit stew.. Haha it was more of a showcase of the cup than the meal :)
I'm a motorcycle camper(i pack my gear on a motorcycle and each day i camp in a different place) and this cup is a life saver, small enough to pack but big enough to cook canned food, economic and just Amazing!!!! Great video!!
I've had one of these for years. Besides the small green handle melting a bit, it's performed admirably.
Nice video, subscribed.
Thanks. I didn't know the cook set could hang from the lid tang. This is my favorite because of the thick cups I'm not burning my hand holding them and then drinking cold coffee within the same minute.
Thanks for showing me how I can make a simple hanger for my Stanley.
Looks like another satisfied customer of the Green Cup Club....thanks Brother for showing us this.
Camping with Jesus, interesting video.
awesome piece of camp essential, had mine over a small titanium wood stove from Lixada.A perfect bushcrafting set up

Excellent video, very clear and concise. I am looking forward to my cook set coming shortly!
Thanks man glad you enjoyed!

Great piece of kit. One thing you might add to yours is a Sea to Summit long spoon. Good for eating out of the Stanley or dehydrated foil packs. About 9 dollars.
Another trick is to use a French press in the pot to make coffee! It works great! Happy trails!

I am looking at one of these Stanley sets for a day / weekend pot I will definitely purchase one now after checking out your channel cheers bruv
Just ordered one of these yesterday. Wanted to see what people thought of it. Great video.

Why you need to hang it? you can place it over the fire (with enough separation and stones)
You made me feel like I went camping for 4mins

way cool. It's like Dave Navarro took up self reliance.
repped for two reasons: Stanley cook set and Swiss Army multitool (I have the exact same as you).
I hope you shared with your cameraman! ;-)
Liked and subscribed! I have one and love it!
which model of your other cup fits the Stanley?? thanks!
very Cool. i am planning on buying one of those this weekend
Super good I just used mine a bunch!!
I did go buy one. Have not had the chance to try it out yet though.

That's true mora just released their first full tang knife and they are notorious for being bomb proof
My favorite bomb proof knife is the Condor Bushlore.. Absolute beast of a knife for CHEAP.
Nice little kit.....Take care, Bluefin.
If u buy the nalgene stainless tapered 32oz bottle it fits in the Stanley then u have 3 stainless cups ta cook with or boil water
ok this has been on my list for some time - now I have it and I'm not sure I love it - Im just used to the shorter 'mug' size and it's a little tall but still a really great value! Walmart $12!!

Great kit especially adding the hanger. Thanks. atb

Use a fishing leader instead of the scrap of wire.
nice video, how is that pot to clean up ? easy ?
Just got me one those. Haven't used it yet.
$ 15.00 at walmart... nesting cups are good for a few things... good video

I've been wanting one of these kits! Cheap and effective. Where'd you get that necklace?!
What kind of spoon are you using?
im taking a guess thats a...buck knife? hmm.
Good stuff man. I subscribed and look forward to more of your weekend and holiday adventures.
Peace!
Thanks for the video. I've just subscribed. Cheers!
Take off the plastic tab and replace it with a key ring.
Comon, everybody's doin it.
If you keep the tab in the upright position it won't melt!
@@margaretadler6162 Why take the chance and have something that can melt? It falls over it melt. Its a liability.

Any chance you'll do a video with the rest of the Red Hot Chili Peppers?
Soon enough my friend
Robert Pires one minute he is earning millions playing football, next he is living in the woods eating aldi beans
good video.. but $24!! just picked one up on Amazon for under $10....
you could have heated the beans up in the can, instead know you have to clean the pot.
You're right but then I would have had nothing to showcase the pot! cheers
Cans have an epoxy resin coating... not so sure it's safe to heat. Better to clean a pot after than to deal with future health issue's.
You never did the ol' exploding can of beans in the campfire hehe!
David Wood is correct. Heating the can directly will do in a pinch, but I wouldn't recommend it every time, due to mild safety issues.

I've been wondering about that. Thanks man.
amazing the lid did not fly open from hanging.....the Kochgeschirr 31 - The German Mess Kit and its variants is still better
You said you paid $24.00? They are going for $15.00 at Walmart.
Im in Canada.
Stanley Adventure Camp Cook Set Cookout!
$10 right now on Amazon !
Why not just put the can of beans on the fire, and skip the stanley pot?
Cause that'd be no fun!!

Cans are lined with nasty stuff that you don't want to heat up and mix with your food - blech!
Well... if it was an empty can, I'd agree with you. But a can full of mostly liquid, not so much. some cans are plastic lined, and most cans have an adhesive gum where the metal is rolled. +Walt Park Yeah, real smart advice. Try it sometime, and enjoy the taste of burned plastic and other chemicals in your food.
me in the camp i cook my bean in the can no Mess @ All ~~
You could have just cooked the beans in that can they came in.

Remove the plastic tab on the lid it will melt. Install a metal key ring in its place
