    Stanley makes some good products. I also like how the Stanley lid fits the Ozark Trail SS cup. The two make for a great kit.

    Looks good, nice video... I just picked up a Stanley, and was thinking to cook rice or pasta in it sometime. This one looks like a good meal for on the trail that I can bring in a backpack with the Stanley. Will probably throw in a chicken boullion cube as some people have suggested... but regardless, looks like a solid meal to keep you going in the outdoors.

    @campfiretrickery Did the rice stick to the bottom of the pot? How badly? I've never been able to cook rice in a Stanley pot without it sticking to the bottom.

      CHRIS REYNOLDS yes the rice will stick . But this can be minimized by removing pot from heat in the last 4 minutes of cooking time .

    can you do a video cooking oatmeal over campfire coals with that grate. maybe put some butter and brown sugar and raisins and cinnamon in there . I heard you can set it directly on coals but if I buy one i gonna put a grate over the campfire coals without direct flame and maybe it'll last longer not sure. happy trails !!!!

    I reckon that there's one fine looking meal! ✔ ✔ ✔ I am looking for something like that set-up, but just wondering how long it takes to boil water before you added the rice. Also I am looking at using Dollar Tree brand of Sterno.

    • @campfiretrickery
      @campfiretrickery  6 років тому +1

      With sterno you need direct flame contact , as far as boil time its trial by error only used it briefly for cooking just try it is all i can say . maybe i need to revisit sterno for cooking and do some videos on it .

    Holy crap (I wanted to say "holy shit", but some folks were upset when you said that after dropping the pot lid)! Where did you buy that rice? And what kind is it? Cooking rice in a Stanley cup over a Sterno burner? I have never, ever heard of such a thing. I have only ever been able to cook pasta (macaroni and shells and such), after soaking it in water for 5 minutes beforehand, with a Sterno whilst out back-packing! How long do your Sternos last?

    • @campfiretrickery
      @campfiretrickery  6 років тому +1

      i use regular white rice , but minute rice would have been better . Sterno will work if you have direct flame from the can in contact with your cooking container . I boiled the water before adding the rice .

    • @craigpodgurski819
      @craigpodgurski819 5 років тому

      With most rice if you get it to a rolling boil you can cover it with a lid and remove from the heat and it will be ready in a few minutes

    • @campfiretrickery
      @campfiretrickery  7 років тому +2

      DutchOvenDoins you need direct heat constant flame with sterno . and I use to much rice for the cup so it was around 1hr 30 minutes for one cup of rice .

    I never understood the desire to have a tall skinny cook pot. The Stanley pot is a fail. It doesn't cook food evenly - it is useful only for boiling water. Get yourself a shorter squatter pot that will distribute the heat more. It will also be a hell of lot easier to
    clean!

    • @campfiretrickery
      @campfiretrickery  7 років тому +2

      you make a great point , but it can do more than boil water . its great for coffee , cooking stews , and works great for cooking bacon with it laid flat on its side .

    • @Roarmeister2
      @Roarmeister2 7 років тому +1

      Cooking stews???? Hmm, me thinks the temperature differential between top and bottom would leave one with scorched food at the bottom unless you constantly stirred.
      I have seen people turn their pots on the side before for baking or roasting but cooking bacon is a new one to me. Interesting... you may have to have it slightly tilted to contain the grease.

    • @gunsmithsc
      @gunsmithsc 6 років тому +1

      I used my Stanley pot just like the one you got. I never had any problem cooking any thing I wanted. I used it to fry fish , shrimp , chowder , stew , all types of things. I also carry a grill grate for larger things. But for the size , and weight of the cook set and all that can be cooked in it. It can not be beat. But it does suck that your lid handle is gone and it does not even look like you used it a whole lot. I had bought one a few years ago and it had a hole in the bottom of the thing. I got another one and been happy with it ever since. You just picked up another sub..
