- My next video will be the final fragrance league table video. I will round up the top 5 fragrances as chosen by you.... to vote just say "I vote for [fragrance name] in the comments below.
Always loved the different nostalgic smells of the older men's fragrances . Chanel Anteus and Hugo Boss no.1 , are some of my favorites.
aramis classic 1965 may be one you want to consider finding. My all time favorite fragrance--classy, sexy and very masculine. I picture Dean Martin, Carry Grant, George Clooney and other classic style leading men wearing this great classic.
Stephen Davis I bought the 1966 4 ounce Brut essence in the silver metal bottle on ebay ....it is Amazing and it lasts all day. I own the 1980's Aramis..very nice too.
Still sold for cheap and the formulation is good enough.
The best comedy has an edge of truth to it lol, all 3 points were spot on man, you had me cracking up after the first one!
great video and informative 👍
the sauvage vintage bottle wow looks nice
I said it once and I say it again: I celebrate the intro music. When the trumpets pause and the drums come in I want to dance like those 60s epileptic go-go girls.
-Herb (56yrs, Lumberjack and Hobbytrucker)
Is that a foam roller in the background? Also, really enjoy watching your videos! I want more content, pump out a new one every day 😂!
Man, you hit the spot right with all those discontinued fragances.
Polo, Gyvenchy Monsieur, Gentleman, Xeryus, Chanel pour Monsieur, when I was on my teens I worked in a fashion clothing store for men and they had all those fragances. Excellent collection, mr. Smelly well done, monsieur. Once in a while I dwell into ebay looking for the original formulas. Cheers.
Great topic, please keep them coming! Reviews like this will set you apart from the other reviewers, IMO. I recently purchased a vintage RL Safari....excellent stuff! I also own a Fahrenheit bottle from the late 90's, which I actually wore and misplaced for several years until I found it stashed away in a box. Been looking for PR sport to add to my collection.
Appreciate this video. Fav vintage frags..."Unleaded Fuel" by Donna Karen, "Iquitos" by Alain Delon, "New West" by Aramis, "Perry Ellis Cologne for Men" by Perry Ellis, "Feeling Man" by Jil Sander, "PS" by Paul Sebastian.
Xeryus has that barbershop vibe when you spray it, but later its a juniper bomb with herbal and citrusy-lavender notes. Great for office and outdoors if you like this kind of smell, but I rarely use it. :) Projects nicely and longs last (8hrs+ on me)
🤣🤣🤣
THERE it is! Xeryus.
I remember the bottle from the 80’s but had forgotten the name.
Otherwise Drakkar Noir, Farenheit and some Legerfelt where my go to’s back then.
Mate, love this as i am now 50 know these beauties well. Vintage Azzaro was totally crazy in the club in the 80's. I kid you not, ladies would sometimes stop in their track and sniff us up and down. Here's a challenge for you , track down bottle of Romeo Gilgku Man the green triangle bottle, it's Devine.
I recently got a bottle. Romeo Gigli Uomo ? Green juice metal neck? Great stuff
Le Beau Fleur that’s the one. Very hard to find.👍
Old Givenchy Gentleman reminds me of Germany. As a boy visiting this was my father signature scent. Very nice scent brings good memories
I love these vintage fragrance videos. Greetings from Florida Mr. Smelly.
Man you choose my favorite I was a kid and my father used to work in perfume industry
Your collection is amazing
More videos like this please Dan covering vintage colognes!! Love these vintage frags!!
Great content as always Dan. My Dad wore most of these fragrances. He used to shave with the givency gentlemen foam back in the 80s too. You can still find cans of that and other 80s grooming products in Farmacias in Spain.
Xeryus was one of my fragrances when I used to sneak into clubs as a 15/16 year old. I would 'borrow' Dads Fahrenheit too in those days and you could smell me 2 streets away!
Great review again, mate. I'll try to pick up some of these because I don't have many classics. Also, my lot are going your way on the 15th of April (Watford v Swansea). I'm trying to get to Vicarage Road myself, so let me know if you fancy a pint!
I love xeryus! My father used it and i love it.
Wow i'm still rocking these frags.
Good stuff! Regulations have killed most of these over time. Vintage is where it's at.
This was not only wonderful but inspirational. I am back on Ebay looking for some of these classic gems. Thanks so much Mr. S.
What I should have mentioned is that you inspired me to buy Monsieur de Givenchy with your unboxing video Lanie.! I just got the Edt as well and it is equally great! Thank you so much.
Oh my goodness! You are so very welcome!
Lanier Smith Ebay has many vintage colognes and perfumes..I bought a Vivi musk oil from the 1940's...it smells amazing.
Many vintage scents from many decades ago marketed for women are definitely unisex today.
Great video bro! I may do a video of my pre-reform and vintage frags too!
Thanks Waseem would love to see that!
Eau savage takes it for me, it lasts forever.
kouros and cool water also worth a look.
I have been on a huge retro kick and you reminded me of frags I forgot.
A little late stumbling across this video, I just received a gift , unopened Yardley aftershave cream and lotion from the 1960s I believe and it is the most wonderful thing. I have a beard but shave my neck and cheeks and it is so invigorating! I love it so much that I almost don't want to use it for the fear of it running out!
Amazing video my friend! I have been hunting for Discontinued vintage gems for the last couple years. Great pick ups. Going to hunt down PR Sport now. Thank you for the vid. Awesome.
Thanks Ryan. i would love to see you review PR Sport.
Awesome job man... I love these types of videos... I have a bottle of Fahrenheit from 1989 (second year it was released) and the floral aspect from the violet is MUCH stronger... Way stronger then my buddy's bottle from 1995... Not sure if they lowered the floral aspect after the first couple of years or not... I know Frunkinator mentioned how strong the violet was in his sample from 1988... Raiders of the Lost scent sadly start there 10 batch comparison @ 1993 and say all of the bottles smell pretty much the same in the 90s that they samples so I have a feeling that there was another formulation that many may not have ever smelled... :^( It smells lovely BTW and the violet fills the room when you spray it on... I wonder if there was a problem with the original violet they used... Hmmm... Oh well... Wonderful video man... I loved it... Looking forward to more like this... ^_^
Thanks a lot my friend. Great blog that Raiders of the Lost Scent.
You would absolutely love Patou Pour Homme EDT. You have to get a bottle of this gem. It is one of my all time faves.
Try Acqua Di Selva from Victor released in 1949. Beautiful foresty scent
Point 3 is is absolutely relevant! Nice vid!
Nice vid, Mr. Smelly. Fahrenheit is my all time fav scent. The 2012 - 2015 reformulation was kinda bad, but the recent formulation (2016 onwards) is a lot better and closer to the original than it's been in many years. They amped up the petroleum/gasoline smell people get from the leather and violet leaf so I'm more than satisfied with the current concoction.
Thanks a lot AACC!
Great review, Dan. Very interesting to hear the history. Thank you!
As usual a Nice Smart truthful Introduction...Thnx Mr.Smelly
Great video! I thought the newest reformulation of Fahrenheit was a lot more similar to the vintage, compared to the previous reformulations? I got a 2016 bottle and that petrol vibe is very prominent and the scent lasts for hours with decent projection. Got many compliments and can proudly say it's my signature scent. P.S. wise words in the intro with your third point!
pdude1911 agree with this. I think latest version is very similar to my memory of original.
I vote British Sterling for I have only the Dana (new) formulation but can grab the old one for a song. The Dana one is not terrible so I am assuming the original will be better. Lagerfeld Photo is a nice classic as well... great video... always love seeing pictures of your Dad.
There was a Speidel and a Mem version of British Sterling before the Dana version which is the only one I have. I find the atomizer of the cologne version to be much stronger than the cologne splash for some reason.
I was re-watching this because of a specific frag you covered that I wanted to hear about again, and I noticed in your top 3 list at the beginning that number 3 sounded really familiar after you recited it; THEN I remembered, lol...did anyone else "get" that that was a comment under one of your videos? (I'm almost positive I read it there). I loled once I realized that, but I'm wondering if anyone else even got that, didn't see anyone comment on it.
Smashed it again, all 3 points hit the mark.
Thanks Mosh!
i would love to own 1 and 2, you lucky man. smart move to be going to old chemists never thought of that.
That's so dope that you are hunting these vintages down, Super interesting!
Not really that interesting.
Azzarro pour Homme...brilliant masterpiece barbershop type scent
Givenchy Gentleman Vintage - I just got it. I'm in love. Does anyone know of a fragrance similar to this, or in the same family?
One vote for Acqua di Gio Profumo, please. I'm ordering a bottle of Worth Pour Homme, not sure if you've tried that one Dan.
all the Madrid boys wanted eau Sauvage in the 70s before going to la Costa. The south americans had their Bay Rhum
Great video. My favorites are vintage Paco Rabanne pour Homme, vintage Halston Z-14, and vintage Hermes Bel Ami. They don't make 'em like that any more.
I think the main problem with collecting vintage fragrances is that when you order them online you never know if they still smell ok....
The Fahrenheit deostick has a very strong petroleum note. So if you cannot find the old Fahrenheit cologne, you can always wear the new one+the deostick ;)
Awesome......Sir what do you think about Tsar
Any views on bogart pour homme? Sounds like a beast! Great vid yet again 😁
Brilliant scent. Current version is excellent!
Nice one! Thank you. A lot of us guys that love fragrances, do hold your views in high regards. Very much appreciated. Thanks for replying.
Then your dad must have been cool because Givenchy Gentleman is very good stuff! Funny I had that little bottle of Farenheit myself once. Have those plus HB #1 but will keep Monsieur and Eau Savage on my radar - thanks for the reminder because much of what's out here today just doesn't cut it!
Old school: Drakkar. Its still going.... Dont know about new formulations but what a beast
Love the Golden Oldies theme. I used to drown myself in Fahrenheit way back when lol. Xeryus has been reformulated, shame. Cacharel PH is my fave vintage cologne.
How about getting a Vintage YSL Opium PH (EDT/ EDP) ?
Nice video as always ^^
Mr. Smelly, how can i find a vintage Givenchy Gentleman for 32 pounds? I now have the current formula but it totally lacks the civet
Is there any chance that you can do a video comparing the vintage Givenchy Xeryus to the current Givenchy Les Pafums Mythiques version? I've read that Givenchy reformulated it twice since the late 1990's.
nice video Mr. smelly. - I vote for Azzaro Pour Homme. I cannot deny a sense of disappointment to know
that most men will never appreciate this wondrous scent on their skin.
The current version isn't nearly as strong (or smooth) as the 1980's version. It's still great, though.
This was funny 😂
I was crazy about Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui. Today I dont know, maybe it is still ok.my crazy spanish friend used Tabu! (and he Was crazy!)
Hello bro ! Thank you for the great review, keep it up
Not gonna Lie. 3 hit hard…
Love the intro. :)
I vote for Eau Sauvage, though the comparison to Sauvage is a bit of a stretch.
Chanel Pour Monsieur was marketed in the US as "Chanel For Men" for a short time and sold at drug stores, etc. I suspect that's the same era as your "Gentlemen's Cologne" I purchased it in the late 80s.
Thanks. I didn't mean to compare the smell of Eau Sauvage and Sauvage but just meant that it was the equivalent popular all purpose masculine fresh scent of its time.
I still have about 20% left from my mid 1980's 100 ml splash bottle of Chanel Pour Monsieur Edt Concentree. I'm sorry I didn't buy 2 cases of it back then! It cost about $35 for a 100 ml at top retail dept. stores back then. For some reason, I loved buying splash bottles rather than atomizers back then (probably because they were cheaper). All fragance houses released their men's colognes and edt's in the splash and atomizer formats, probably because the men's fragrance market was just starting to grow, and most guys were still used to aftershave splashes.
You missed out on the old king of all colognes Aramis yeah Aramis.
My brother wore that givenchy gentleman a d my dad called him " Paula" because he smelled like a woman , because my dad used old spice back then
I would advise you to get ysl jazz I'm 47 and I'm not lying that was more hyped than aventus is today I bought it at 18-19 and every time I wore it I got stopped by lads girls men woman even checkout girls in shops all used to ask me what it was and birds in clubs were easy picking back then , I ordered a vintage sample on Monday a d I'm curious to smell it today , I'll let you if it's still special 👍
You must hunt out vintage Nina Ricci fragrances! Phileas, Signoricci, Ricci Club; shame there aren't any mens fragrances close to these masculine works of olfactory art anymore IMO.
I vote for "La Rive - Extreme Story"
Can u try boucheron pour homme 👍
I vote for Boss Bottled Intense
what about D & G by....Boss Sports (Green).....THF athletics vintage 100 ml....Burberry vintage
Thanks Zarar I have a mini of Boss Sport (the green 80s one) very tempted to but a bottle!
No. 3 is legitimately good advice lol
Thanks Bruno!
I wonder if we could find vintage fragrances these days ,
But... Dan, you don't have twitter. :(
I have Ralph Lauren Chaps
humour game on point
That's Romeo Gigli Man .
Nice. Nice. Nice.
Thanks Kologne!
Getting a bit snobby now mr smelly with all these exclusive vintages.
Does any0ne remember Xanadua? X marks the spot? Late 60's early 70's
Xeryus is discontinued now
man that polo look like u found it deep in the sea.
Yeah it had been in that shop for decades! The woman who worked there apologised when I asked to try it and said "it's probably gone off!". It hasn't!
MrSmelly1977 may i know how can u differentiate when it is gone off? is it u comparing to the modern version? are they smelly the same?
Your a funny Joker
Hahahaha. Hey mr smelly theres some truth to the three points you mentioned in the beginning hahahahha
Thanks Angelo I am glad you agree!
Ha, I know one channel where #1 might apply, not sure why he even does reviews
MDCigan who?
My man seems a bit off today Lol
hey Dan I made a 'top 5 tips for fragrance reviewers' video that you may enjoy going off your intro :P - KTcSfXLRCF8
p.s. vote Antaeus! yes!
Thanks checking it out now Steven!
thanks for the sub :D
So...many...epic....fucking...fragranc-......*faints*.......
Thanks Lex I'd love to see you talk about your old formulations... think you have vintage Kouros?
Yeah the EDT! got it on ebay a while back 60% full! think mine is a 2003 bottle
Well... stop telling ppl what to do and ur opinion because who cares. Lmao
