Thank you for watching! It's a super strange device, that just exists for those certain people that are ok with all the negatives. I've found even better results lately streaming the PS5 to the Steam Deck OLED
for only $200 you ain't getting an oled screen. they probably didn't add one to keep price lower n see how sales would do. then a pro model with oled screen will come out since sales were really good. probably be $100 more for oled screen.
The BIGGEST Issue is that a third party Android app has MUCH better streaming quality from the PS5 to your phone. Sony’s solution should far outperform third party stuff but it just doesn’t sadly
Be cool if they make a portable PS4 handheld that you can still use your physical games but only if it's inserted in your console and has to authenticate with it a few times during a game session.
What killed the Vita from what I remember when watching a ton of YT review videos on it because I wanted it so bad was the memory card prices! The prices were insane compared to a universal micro SD card! Like he showed the prices! I got a Vita as a gift which I still have and being a young teen at the time with no job I couldn't afford the memory card! I could barely afford games for it! If memory cards were cheaper I would have made more PS store purchases to avoid asking my mom to take me to GameStop!
Its hit and miss for me. Sometimes it's runs great, I can be playing a game with little lag and then randomly it becomes pretty unplayable with no change in network environment, no one adding things to the network etc. Now considering steam deck as am additional purchase
Idea behind this device is good, but quirks you mentioned are making it a redundancy for me. I use remote play occasionally so I will stick to using my smartphone. It looks dope though.
The input latency is really bad. DF found that it was an additional 80ms on top of system latency. You can even see it here in this video. 11:42 when the screen goes black. There are 3 frames difference, and in a 30fps video, that is ~90ms difference. Moonlight on the other hand, at 60fps (same as ps portal) is under 50ms. Really too bad that Sony isn't using bespoke software or a direct link to the ps5 - not to mention all the other artificial limitations Sony has implemented.
You didnt mention stuttering, which is a widely known problem on reddit for example. I have it too, like every 20 seconds I have 5 seconds of stutter. How is that for you?
@DTunezOfficial But it should. It's not some workaround. Most likely, it's shitty internet I'm afraid. Assuming that your DL/UL speeds are decent, try to solve it with your internet provider? Port forwarding, DMZ etc. What nat type do you have?
Switching off HDCP in your PS5 HDMI settings reduces lag/stuttering or removing the HDMI cable from your PS5. Also depends on your Portal WiFi signal strength. There was a new Portal update today which should reduce the lag but if not I've personally been doing the above since lauch week and haven't had stutters since.
it really all depends on if you have good upload speeds. if your home upload is good you won't have much stuttering. it has more to do with your home upload speed then the download speed of wherever you are at.
I have the ps portal and i just love it, its magical compared to all my other handhelds although i don’t use it a lot because of bad latency. Ps play on my Logitech cloud g and chiaki on my steam deck and even ps remote on my iphone are all much better than ps portal in terms of streaming quality and latency!
I think if you could play playstation + cloud streaming it like you can with gamepass, it might be worth it. I have my own TV in a gaming room, which is not really worth it for me.
I agree with all faults, but I still love mine. I just play on the couch while watching tv with fam then I usually play in bed for a bit. For what it is it's great.
It was basically made for Playstation diehards who love to have/collect Playstation stuff because it's been sold out since release so even with all these mixed comments it's still hard to get it like the ps5 once was. New tech will always be a winner in this age of tech. Crapy or not, it seems like ALL tech has a place in someone's collection. We've all seen hundreds of gaming stuff come and go and in the end pretty much everyone after something is gone says "I should've got one just because now they don't make it anymore or I shouldn't have sold mine" and that alone I believe nowadays makes everything game tech desirable weather it's good or bad. Then there's the other half who most definitely find a good use for it. I don't watch reviews for opinions on products I watch reviews to see all the features & to see it in use. It's easier to let someone else figure it all out 1st so when I buy it I already know how to use it like a pro! 😁
The problem with mine, is it wont turn on my ps5 while it is in rest mode. Also, it wont connect to my account. With that being said, maybe there will be a firmware/ software update to fix these issues. Also i use my 3d pulse headset with it. I connect it to the 3.5mm jack. I find the headset sound pretty good,.and the mic on the portal is also well done
I have portal and steamdeck oled with chiaki4deck. Portal stuttering and drops fps to 30fps every 10 seconds (all users have this problem). Steamdeck runs perfectly smooth. Ps5 on wire, 900mbps lightcable internet. Waiting for update, hope they will fix this issue.
The fact that this streaming-only device doesn’t have WiFi 6 support is ridiculous. Glad I didn’t get this. The revision will hopefully have regular Bluetooth and probably WiFi 7 by the time it happens, if it happens at all.
Sony is selling these at either no profit or a loss. They have to make it up with the headphones selling at a premium… I mean the Sony pulse earbuds dont even have noise cancellation but costs the same as this device itself lol😂
🤦🏼♂️ Use the cable man and have lossless and lag free amazing audio with it. I actually play PS5 games with my WH1000XM5 plugged into my dual sense controller - you get 3D and crisp sound. Just bought Pulse Explore - they are only good (crisp sound) for gaming (music is bad) and not as comfortable as my Sony LinkBuds So actually disappointed with them.

Am I the only one that’s had connection issues since day one I have 300 mbps with the ps5 on 5ghz WiFi the only time I had no issues was with the ps5 connected to LAN but unfortunately this isn’t possible for me to leave connected at all times
Take the PS5 dual sense controller on a Steam Deck and you got the perfect hand-held device. However, comparing Steam Deck to Playstation Portal is not fair because they're not the same device. PS Portal is exclusively for streaming games.
I have seen a lot of reviews of the Portal and all seem to be missing the actual point of this great machine…What if you have limited space and no monitor/tv because your a student or living still at home with parents ???? Surely this then comes into why the Vita was so great….not everyone is a pro gamer and the vast majority of people put up with latency and resolution problems just to enjoy an hour or two of relaxing games at the end of a crap day…..Well done Sony
Sent mine back; it's garbage. 100% relies on wifi, so if you were hoping to take it on the go, good luck at getting a good connection on public wifi. You can't log in to the guest network without using your phone, which kind of defeats the purpose, and the lag is notable in a lot of fast-paced games. My S22+ does remote play much better; I just need to get a backbone or something similar.
Its a controller with a screen. I would have expected, at the very least that sony optimised the latency, but they didn't even do that. Not sure why this exists. Even if i'm a parent and my kids are using the tv, i dont want to play games while having resolution drops and stutters
It runs flawlessly even while downloading games, kids on Netflix, I can't even tell I'm streaming it's spot on.....if that's not the case for you then something is wrong in your environment
If you can afford it, save up a little and get a new steam deck! It cam stream the ps5 better than portal (apps allow you to change the bitrate) and can do so much more
Wow, you gave this a good review. I was thinking about getting it but now, eh not so much. I like having physical media only if they would create a way to up load it to digital like they do with movies to own since I'm already purchasing it. Also not being able to use it to look up other apps is also a miss for me since Nintendo switch does let you.
Too funny! It’s a peripheral. It’s not a Steam Deck….well it’s 400$ cheaper. The Bluetooth thing sucks but a 15$ dongle on amazon fixed that. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE MINE. And remote play on your phone sucks. It NEVER worked in my house with 1GB fiber and the portal has been a 1000000x better experience
PS5 has to be on. Also If you've got it set up so your PS5 can turn on other devices, your TV will come on too while you're playing. Freaked my gf out when I booted up at a friends and our home TV turned on 😂.
The comprises will always be there.. games develop faster then the hardware for handhelds. Nintendo realized that 2, 3, decades ago.. handhelds can't runn bigg aaa games without comprises. You make a handheld and then you develop games based on the hardware.. not the other way around. People keep saying it's not true.. but the reason Nintendo is actually flourishing with that same idea more then 30 years later should say enough. Where there better graphics possible in the 90s sure.. but with bigg comprises. Same goes for the 2000s and the same thing is going on now.. the device that understands its limitations and focuses on what they can do survives.. look at the steam deck and again Nintendo.. don't get me wrong! I love the rog ally! But if you look at it objective.. the deck and Nintendo actually do things way better.. that comprise between quality and trying to be the most powerful will still be there in the future. And looking back 30 years.. you know which side will win that war! The ones that know their limitations over the one who wants to be the most powerful.
And yet that thing is sold out everywhere 😂… i’ll wait for people who bought it thinking that it was an independent handheld to resell at a massive discount.

If the Portal was out before the Steamdeck I wouldn't own one because remote play was my reason for getting the device. I ask that you guys please stop adding to the confusion by dancing around the simple fact it's a controller. To compare anything on portable consoles other than the screen and the portable console's controllers is very misleading. Great vid though don't get me wrong, excellent job. Help end the nonsense and make it understood that the Portal is no different than the Edge, they are controllers set up with different features. 😊 Like the Escalade pick up truck and the Escalade Extended Cab... Very different in configuration but both are Escalades. 😊 🖖 Have a good one.

After watching more than 100 ps portal review videos, this is a very high quality well made analysis video
Thank you for this one, for me one of the biggest downs of this device is losing the 120hz piece and being locked with 60 , or not even being an OLED screen , something you see more and more these days.
My 7 year old open his on Christmas Day. Can't keep the kid off it. He loves it.
The BIGGEST Issue is that a third party Android app has MUCH better streaming quality from the PS5 to your phone. Sony’s solution should far outperform third party stuff but it just doesn’t sadly
Really like my Portal!
Nice! What games have you mainly been playing on it?
Ps portal is awesome, i tried downloading a game at the same time playing zombies online and not even a huccup, no degrade in visual q
Once it’s hackable then it’ll be pretty sick
You didnt mention stuttering, which is a widely known problem on reddit for example. I have it too, like every 20 seconds I have 5 seconds of stutter. How is that for you?
1. PS5 should be connected to internet via cable.
2. Connect PS Portal to 5 GHz network.
@@Zintersky that doesnt work for everyone
@DTunezOfficial
But it should.
If you disconnect the PS5 HDMI cable it’s a lot smoother.
For what it is it's great.
how bad is the latency on the go?
As dumb as I thought it was it's doing very well and I find myself using mine way more than I thought I would. 😅
I want to play it on my work, does it work with my iPhone hotspot?
Yes, you just connect it via the Wi-Fi setup on the Portal to the iPhone hotspot.
@@spectertech thanks mate, is it good internet connection
I have portal and steamdeck oled with chiaki4deck. Portal stuttering and drops fps to 30fps every 10 seconds (all users have this problem). Steamdeck runs perfectly smooth. Ps5 on wire, 900mbps lightcable internet. Waiting for update, hope they will fix this issue.
Something wrong with your setup, mine runs perfect I can download games while playing online perfect quality not one stutter
What game is at 4:35
@christophergoode3421
Its sifu game and hes using professional clothes on his character😊
Still trying to get hands on one or have somewhere that stocks it
The fact that this streaming-only device doesn’t have WiFi 6 support is ridiculous. Glad I didn’t get this. The revision will hopefully have regular Bluetooth and probably WiFi 7 by the time it happens, if it happens at all.
I have had my portal for 1 week and I absolutely love it ❤
Side point, I tried connecting my Sony WH1000XM5 headphones to the PS5, they didn't connect. Bruh. Sony PS5 doesn't support Sony headphones 😐
You can however, connect the dongle to your PS5 instead. But the sound only pop up within the bluetooth range.
It's pretty wild that it doesn't support bluetooth.
Just bought Pulse Explore - they are only good (crisp sound) for gaming (music is bad) and not as comfortable as my Sony LinkBuds
So actually disappointed with them.
no bluetooth, no go!
I forgot this even dropped ☠️
clicked the link for the c7 chair, does not look like same chair in your video, your chair has way thicker cushion, the chair in the link looks way different, the bottom seat cushion part. Help please?
Am I the only one that’s had connection issues since day one I have 300 mbps with the ps5 on 5ghz WiFi the only time I had no issues was with the ps5 connected to LAN but unfortunately this isn’t possible for me to leave connected at all times
No issues if PS5 is connected to LAN too. Wifi to Wifi is sketchy.
Have you tried power line networking?
I have the same ALEX drawer unit
Take the PS5 dual sense controller on a Steam Deck and you got the perfect hand-held device. However, comparing Steam Deck to Playstation Portal is not fair because they're not the same device. PS Portal is exclusively for streaming games.
I just realised it's a wii u game pad for ps5
Brother the controllers are called called DualSense.
I hope so been sitting on the switch fence for way too way
Can I know which game you’re playing at the 4:40 time stamp?
That's yakuza homie
Its not yakuza home its sifu while using professional clothes

I have seen a lot of reviews of the Portal and all seem to be missing the actual point of this great machine…What if you have limited space and no monitor/tv because your a student or living still at home with parents ???? Surely this then comes into why the Vita was so great….not everyone is a pro gamer and the vast majority of people put up with latency and resolution problems just to enjoy an hour or two of relaxing games at the end of a crap day…..Well done Sony
The portal is great I could just imagine if and when they make a new psp how useless it would be
Sent mine back; it's garbage. 100% relies on wifi, so if you were hoping to take it on the go, good luck at getting a good connection on public wifi. You can't log in to the guest network without using your phone, which kind of defeats the purpose, and the lag is notable in a lot of fast-paced games. My S22+ does remote play much better; I just need to get a backbone or something similar.
wish it did more. Id rather pay an extra $100 and do a few more things.
It cam stream the ps5 better than portal (apps allow you to change the bitrate) and can do so much more
That's false, I know this because my portal is flawless and plays ps5 without BS apps, best hand held hands down
lol 200 for a lcd screen and controller@@shizymcnizy2215
What game was it that has Miles Morales from the movie?
It still is ps2 that has the most units sold
Wow, you gave this a good review. I was thinking about getting it but now, eh not so much. I like having physical media only if they would create a way to up load it to digital like they do with movies to own since I'm already purchasing it. Also not being able to use it to look up other apps is also a miss for me since Nintendo switch does let you.
It's a cool device but after 3 weeks I'm already thinking about selling it.
Does your ps5 have to be on to play on your portal? Because I want to play on my portal with my TV off
The ps5 has to be on, because it streams to the portal. But the tv can stay turned off or you can watch something else. I already sold mine
How can i play my PlayStation portal with the PlayStation 5 off? Does anybody know? Or does my ps5 have to be on?
PS5 has to be on. Also If you've got it set up so your PS5 can turn on other devices, your TV will come on too while you're playing. Freaked my gf out when I booted up at a friends and our home TV turned on 😂.
I can't imagine spending 200 dollars to stream ps5 games
Ps portable is just a remote is not a console. PSP Vita was a console but let me realistic Nintendo is the king of handheld
Do you need to have the ps5 wired to your router? Or is it ok to have it wireless
Mines wireless works perfectly fine for me.
@@fredp3088 I got the backbone for PlayStation and it’s working like a charm. Able to play while my wife watches her shows
Why would you upload in 30 fps..
Sad thing about Sony is that they came out with a PlayStation Butthole not a portal. This is a waste of money and time sadly to say.
Sony so scared of piracy but they will always get hacked so just give us the web browser
Newest Backbone at Costco for $50. Portal has latency even with Giga speed. Sony put ancient tech lcd 1080p, wifi5, No Bluetooth, No Apps, No web browser -good luck getting wifi travelling lol. Useless toy, too big to fit in pocket, and look like a dork in public.
Bought one yesterday and returned it yesterday not for me 👎🏾
Can we get $1 for every time he said dualchock controller over dualsense🤣🤣 I've had mimes for a week and I have loved it so dam much I had left over paw print stick covers and I'm loving it my wifi is fast and amazing I've plaid helldivers many times and I've had no latency
Cloud gaming will be the future, this is the whole idea of portal.
Maybe in 50+ years. The infrastructure just isn't there in most countries for a stable or fast enough wi-fi.
cool
#1 I have a iPad Pro and extra ps5 controller with the ps remote app download waste of money
Remote play simple
4 and a half mins of introduction in a 12 minute video is a bit too much. Add this to unnecessary music and explanation of set up makes it even worse.
This is not a class essay.. please try to focus on getting to the point and getting the attention of the people who watch the videos
On top of that you have actually given a review but no real insights for using it for a month .. it’s pretty much the same thing every channel has put out there using it for couple of days .. no additional insights for using it for 30 days ?
Wait until the stick drift happens then the device is as garbage as the stick drift ps5 controller ls
Table and chair review needs to be removed.
200 dollar paper weight or dust collector 😂
🖖 Have a good one.
Dude, we didnt click on the video for a freakin' history lesson on Remote Play. We clicked on it to hear ablut your thoughts on the bloody thing the video was centered on a month into owning it. Cut the filler BS out and GET TO THE BLOODY POINT!
Bro pls check my comment on the 1200 pc build
THIS SYSTEM IS NOT RELIABLE AT ALL
Anyone making positive reviews for this product is just schilling for Sony. You received a free controller, so what else you going to do lol. Few reviewers had integrity and panned the product -and rightfully so.
I find it amazing how Sony fan's will buy anything with the PlayStation logo and reward Sony for doing the very least..useless of a hand-held ever made.
