Once on a day that sort of load would have been hauled by Scammells or Thornycrofts. However the Trojan 8870 ballast tractors seen here are designed and built in house by ALE, as no main stream manufacturer could satisfy the specifications. Weighing approx 72 tonnes they are powered by Volvo Penta straight six diesels with Allison auto gearboxes driving a 8 x 8 axle configuration. They are capable of running as master/slave multiple unit convoys, with engine rpm, torque, and braking all being controlled by computer from the lead tractor.
Hi Mick. I'm no expert, I just enjoy watching these videos but can you tell me about the rear tractors. Are they helping by pushing, supplying power to the trailer or are they being towed?
@@mrjohn.whereyoufrom The rear tractor pushes the rear bogie via the draw bar, I believe throttle and braking are controlled from the front tractor for the majority of the time, although it can run independently when required. Power for the bogie hydraulics to run steering and levelling etc is provided by a power pack that can be seen mounted on the bed just in front of the steersmans cab.
The guy with the long grey hair seems to work with a couple of haulers at least, I see this one and just watched another company and he was in that! Thanks for the upload, these drivers are amazing.
ianmedium if it’s the same guy I’m thinking off he works for the highways and has a lot of work to do planing routes / making them safe etc so yeah he had been on a few :-)

The company and the people that do these heavy hauls has it all in one sock (as the old saying goes) thanks for a very good video
Could this really not have been posted in the right screen ratio?
Someone was bound to complain about the noise or the hold ups!!!
That big rig for that little box? ???
Read the description, electrical transformer weighing approx. 331 tonnes
Truly amazing 👌😍😍😍🇦🇺
It's the A27
Just turning onto the A22
wow could that not go on a low loader.be a lot easier
i understand its a transformer but it is not 78m long or 4.3 wide
Just thinking that. Any idea of weight and sensitivity of the load. Looks overkill to me.
It's not the size its the weight, that transformer is probably reaching 200 tonnes if not more
Read the video description, 331 tonnes
Ah the heavy haulage experts have commented!!!
Me when police
