I remember you guys heading out ! I was your cashier talking about being the first one to catch anything on the boat and owning a stella too 😂🤘 great catch guys!
Nice catch. Cool rod and reel combo especially the jdm OCEA Jigger.
Dude, nice catch 👌. My first bluefin was on a peen spinfisher5500. It took way longer than you with that Stella. Awesome 👌.
Got to have confidence in your gear. That’s all that it takes.
Stella for the win
For clarification can you give the specifics on the rod that you’re using. I have 3 Stella 14k that I’ve paired up with Ocea Plugger BG Monster Drives and Ocea Plugger Flex Limited Rods. Your combo looks like a 14k or 18k reel with possibly a jigger rod but I’d like to know what rod for sure and what are the specs so I can do a bit more research. Great catch and I only use my Stellas when I go on the tuna boats. I’m sure you got razzed a bit but it’s hard to knock a Stella for sure.
This is a 10,000 Stella. The jigging rod that I’m using is a Shimano Ocea Jigger S58-6. It’s 5 feet 8 inch. Max line rated is PE6 (90lb).
I have the Ocea plugger flex limited Heavy action paired with a 18k Stella, it a back killer pulling in 100lb bft. It’s doable, but i prefer fighting with the jigging rod now.
@@CatchEmAllChai thanks for the info. I will certainly check it out. Yes the Flex Limited and the BG Monster Drives tend to hurt the back for sure which is why I’m looking for alternatives. Never really thought about the jigging rods as I thought they would be too light for sure to handle even the 40 pounders.
i was out on a different boat that day and we got boat limit on flyline sardine
Slow day for us on the tribute. Caught my limit by sunrise. 14 fishes landed total. Lots of people skunked.
@@CatchEmAllChai you are good at this, what size stella
@@fishwood7645 10,000. Holds about 500 yards PE4 line (65lb)
You are ok using a spinning reel on 60-80lb bluefin. But I would never use a spinning reel on tuna over 100lb plus. I learned on 3 long range trips lever drag 2 speed reels rule for catching big tuna. A big bluefin or yellowfin can burn off 500-600 yards of 130lb spectra on a reel.
wow on a coffee grinder
Getting the job done espresso style.
Very nice. However I'm not sure why you are/were compelled to mention how much it cost.
Stella is the King.
bro, if you catch a 100 or 150 lb bluefin, and you cant use the rail, you are screwed
PB with this setup is a 120lb bft, 10 minute fight. No need for rail.
you never know what u catch
@@kave4602 spinning gears can use the rails too, high stick the rod butt between the rail and waist, let the rod tip do the work. Spinning reel becomes 2 speed. Just crank with every head shake.
Dude you paid 1200.00 for a coffee grinder did you learn anything from this?
I have Talica 2 speeds and they don’t compare to Stella’s. Stella’s just have more thrill in fighting fish. $1200 buys confidence in your drag system. Smooth drag, no jerking. Fight the fish hard with confidence.
@@CatchEmAllChai Brian has not idea the equipment you have. He lives in a bubble. Unfortunately most SoCal dudes do.
@@steelviper1 100% True.
No birds nest to deal with however Stella you have to manually close the bail and on a good size BFT that requires skills if not it’s scary especially on a open bail drop or fly lining. Having said that it’s, a Stella!
@@tommvanbui Stella has a strong bail system. It’ll close up regardless of how fast the line is going out. But I do encounter that scary finger cutting problem with 4000 reels. Have to be very careful closing the bail with one click or use the auto crank close bail system.

I’ve caught plenty of 100lb to 120lb bft on spinning gear. Most of them don’t run more than 100 yards. Occasionally I get one or two bft that run 200 yards, but nothing more. You’ll be surprise on how easy this setup can turn the fish’s head. This rod can dead lift 15 lbs of dumb bells tied to the end of the rod with normal pull effort. Once you’ve tried the short jigging rods out, you’ll fall in love with the rod bend, and fish battle scene.
