You missed the fact that I'm in two completely different locations during the video. Video info says, "The sound you hear was done in one take." Doesn't say the video. We filmed all night to get all the different angles. I must have played it about 30 times, pretty much exactly the same way every time. Have to give credit to the NI editors for doing such a great job of putting this together. Could you also tell that the wind was blowing in different directions throughout the video? ;-)
Dude you're a beast, i saw this video when it was first published and it blew my mind. Back then i didn't pull the plug on a maschine unfortunatly while my friend started djing. Finally got one after bumping into this video again and i have a blast. Any tips on the the 1/16 ? I am using the melodics apps to learn beats rythm and count the beats so i can learn the basics before live or production :)
Yeah right dude. I'm a guitarist and drummer of 16 years. I just bought one of these, it seriously is an art and requires a lot of talent. Open up your mind and get out of the idea that playing something like this isn't a craft. Much respect to both worlds.
Clearly, all people on here that say this isn't music or "why don't you just hit play" must skipped past minute 1:05. You must clearly have to have some music knowledge to perform something like that. Or do ya'll really think that he just hit the pads in a random order, performing that live? No No. NO. NO.. This is clearly making music only with DIFFERENT TOOLS. Whereas other musicians make music with real musical instruments or Virtual Instruments, other use these types of tools like MASHINE to make music. Nonetheless, they are all musicians using only different tools TO MAKE MUSIC.
What he's doing requires creativity and talent of some sort at some level - I'll give you that. Is it "musical talent" ? That's not so cut-and-dry. Ask the 16 yr old classical piano or 'cello virtuoso who has been practicing 8hrs/day since he/she was 4 years old if it's the same amount of effort required. I think not. EDM is not high art - it's designed to make people dance. "Dance Music". So was what Glenn Miller's big band played 70 yrs ago - but that music endures to this day. I doubt you're going to be hearing anything Jeremy Ellis did on the "Maschine" in 70 yrs on a PBS pledge drive - but who knows...
Tioga Fretworks Jeremy Ellis is more recognized for his playing skills though, not necessarily the production. One of the best finger drummers in the world. Is he one of the best producers in the world? Not even close. This ad isn't meant to showcase what a final piece of work can sound like after spending hours on it. This is more an ad that captures newbs attention with Jeremy's tremendous skill. Playing the Maschine live like this is much more captivating then watching someone build away in front of a computer. P.S. calling this EDM seems kind of off...This is much different than the industry standards. Not saying it's better but it's certainly not canned and generic dance music.
Tioga Fretworks jeremy says he was trained in classical piano since a child, which helps his finger chops. Theres video of him playing full piano pieces on ableton push. Hes the truth..pushin shit forward fsho!
It takes atleast as much practice & skills as any other instrument, especially to play 2 at the same time, when it looks this easy, u can be shure it took talent & years of practice Jeremy is also a classical trained pianist, like David 'finger' Haynes also plays real drums, its just another tool to play music
same trite fight in every forum or youtube chat. both will coexist. both have their cult following. both deserve respect. i love the idea of incorporating elements from both live performance and djing on turntables.
I now able to use maschine sampling. well, it is easy to use, even in mikro. everything you can do in studio, is possible on mikro. however, you have almost every button on studio. imagine maschine studio is a laptop without Fn key, and maschine mikro like surface pro that doesn't even have Prnt Scr button.
+Hype Train my comment was not insulting the guys technical skill and musical understanding. I was exaggerating a bit when I said that 5 months ago, but I was just commenting on the device he uses. it reminds me of a Simon says machine. I'm aware how difficult it is to compose a technical beat on these things. the song itself still sounds like shit lol that's just my opinion tho, like it or not. peace on you!
New videos at my UA-cam channel break down some of the section from this video! Yes, I'm the real Jeremy Ellis. Yes, this is one stand alone instance of Maschine, with Mikro in MIDI-mode. Yes, the new pads feel amazing. And yes, having the colors is fantastic from the first moment. Thanks so much to all y'all that already Subscribed!
Actually Jeremy Ellis played both guitar and piano for several years. He happened to also find a talent with Maschine and MPC which Native instruments recognized. He has talent that you probably would never even dream of possessing.
I'm with this guy, I've done something not too dissimilar to this nothing more than my computer keyboard, ableton live and a koassilator pro. Seriously its the (wo)man that makes the gear, not the other way around.
The track to the commercial song "Too Blessed To Be A Hater" was done on the Maschine, great product! Check out the commercial here on youtube just search Swain Wear or Too Blessed To Be A Hater
Yes, once you lay a pattern down you can definitely do that. Basically it plays scene by scene. you can replay each scene independently, all of them, or a selected few. Also just mess around with the pads and all of that, it'll come a lot easier.
Seriously man this guy has it all unique image style his own style in music and an amazing talent not. "just another electro/dub/etc." artist. This man is about to blow up big time watch and see
Not shot in one take, they're lying to us. If you watch the cut between 0:17 and 0:18, He goes from using both hands to pressing one pad to instantly after the cut hitting the pads with one hand and his other hand is holding another button or two. Impressive, none the less.
Hey Jax. I appreciate that. That's nice of you to say. It's definitely not as well produced as a Skrillex jam, but it's not really going for that. NI wanted a classic German techno vibe, so that's what I did. I'm a Detroit guy, so techno is all up in my bones even if it's not something I normally do. Kind regards.
No unique settings. It's more about how long you hold the note down when playing in Pad Mode. This string lead sounds more connected because the synth has a long release setting. The legato bass line break will be featured in a tutorial at my youtube channel tomorrow. Check it! Feel free to subscribe for more tutorials on how to play the pads!
Answers: I prepared the performance. Again, this is the audio from one single take, with video from many takes. Of course, I forgot to mute the 1234 in this take. It was done in one instance of the Maschine software. Besides highlighting the new Mikro, I did need to use it (in MIDI mode) to play the section at the end where I play drums + bass simultaneously. Thanks for watching, Henry! Feel free to subscribe to my channel for tips on how to do this sort of finger banging. Cheers!
The colors can be assigned per Pad and also for an entire Group. My fav was just to set everything to all one color, like all purple or all red. Same with MIDI-Controller mode; every Pad can have it's own color. After playing with it for a few days, I did find the visual cues of one group/one color to be helpful. In any case, the old Maschine t-shirt didn't go with any of my pants, so the new colors should provide some better options. I've had 1.8 working on my classic: all is well.
Ps. the end of this video clip has been recorded in the same place has the clip os Music instructor "rock your body". here in hower association we start because the same group. Congrat, from Portugal =) Sory bad english
Answer to common question: The Mikro is in MIDI mode, controlling the sounds from the MK2. You need to assign each pad group to the correct MIDI notes so it works correctly. Oh yeah, and I forgot to mute the 1234 after the first 16 bars. My bad. It haunts my dreams. I didn't pick the take they used for the video. And those aren't my cubes. Boxes and excellent visuals provided by Pfadfinderei. Now go subscribe to my channel!
its the maschine software Maschine is a hardware and software package (all sounds etc over 6Gb of them and the sequencer are stored on your hard drive and the controller just triggers/loads those sounds into your computers memory) the controller is just a bespoke bit of hardware for controlling the maschine software. you can use the software without the controller but you can't use the controller without the software.
why do MF's hate just to hate?!!!! im a top dj & music producer and can acknowledge j.eliis is a beast and killed this song! if the 1234 annoys you then clearly you don't understand music production. until you create something better and post it to UA-cam, stop hating just to hate!!! nobody force you to continue watching or to leave you negative commit! give props where props is due....like i said this dude is a beast and real recognize real!!!!
Honestly when you play a sax, a trumpet a flute a clarinet you are pressing a button down to change the tones. Good music is good music. Great talent is talent. If you didnt know Ellis is an accomplished Classical and jazz pianist, but turned to controller-ism so he could find his own sound.

I have heard him execute many styles live over the years and now I can add electro too!
Incredible!!!!! Hats off to you sir!!!!!
Kraftwerk!
same trite fight in every forum or youtube chat. both will coexist. both have their cult following. both deserve respect. i love the idea of incorporating elements from both live performance and djing on turntables.
this guy masters 2 maschine, while I haven't mastered ONE yet.
Are they any good?
if you are into electronic music, they are.
I just haven't found my maschine feeling yet.
Rinaldo Jonathan Ok thanks
I now able to use maschine sampling. well, it is easy to use, even in mikro.

can't believe after 4 years i wasn't improved. ended up using maschine only as ableton drum rack controller.
Jeremy is the man, he has more talent in one finger than most of you have in your tiny little brains. Keep up the amazing work Jeremy.
Kraftwerk!!!!
This man kills everything live on stage!! The best on the Meschine!
(Enables record quantize)
(Begins)
Thank YOU for the support! Your videos are all amazing and the tutorials have been a huge help to me and many others! You rock man, keep it up!!
this is nothing more than a musical Simon says.
you are so clueless
You know absolutely nothing if you think that.
+Hype Train my comment was not insulting the guys technical skill and musical understanding. I was exaggerating a bit when I said that 5 months ago, but I was just commenting on the device he uses. it reminds me of a Simon says machine. fmx623 It requires a lot of coordination bro. It's not so easy.
+Andrew M. I'm sure it does. what I trip out on is how they remember what sounds are saved under different settings.
Thats crazy at the end when he does the beat and the bassline
this look like some 70's video, trying to make the new generation of music of some shit 😂
What are you TRYING to say? Who cares what it looks like?! The music is badass. Or, if you can do better post some of your tracks why don't 'cha, huh?
Can't get over how much it looks like he aged between 2012-2013
It consumes vitality to produce good music.
Thumbs up for the film makers as well. Great editing.
This beat is infectious. Love the old school sound!
New videos at my UA-cam channel break down some of the section from this video! Yes, I'm the real Jeremy Ellis. Yes, this is one stand alone instance of Maschine, with Mikro in MIDI-mode. True coordination right there, that was awesome!
Without him, this wasn't possible.
Actually Jeremy Ellis played both guitar and piano for several years. He happened to also find a talent with Maschine and MPC which Native instruments recognized. He has talent that you probably would never even dream of possessing.
Loving the bit sound
I'm with this guy, I've done something not too dissimilar to this nothing more than my computer keyboard, ableton live and a koassilator pro. Seriously its the (wo)man that makes the gear, not the other way around.
the new maschine looks amazing!
but i liked the first performance of his on this channel infinitley better
this is absolutely your best performance...
Such a sweet drum machine!!! Awesome Loops!
The track to the commercial song "Too Blessed To Be A Hater" was done on the Maschine, great product! Check out the commercial here on youtube just search Swain Wear or Too Blessed To Be A Hater

Jermy Ellies is the best in Maschine / Maschine Mikro
you are brilliant my friend, they picked you for a reason
Hell yeah, Jeremy rocks it off again!
Very good presentation of the Maschine.
Yes, once you lay a pattern down you can definitely do that.
Basically it plays scene by scene. you can replay each scene independently, all of them, or a selected few.

Why is Jeremy always looking so fresh!
awesome maschine and performance
I love his image already.
I've seen Ellis play a few times and shared the stage with him once and he's a fucking master.
Very good video, perfect introduction to this tool. Doesn't show what it can do more though, so hop on quickly to the next Maschine video ...
Amazing Performance!!!
Hey Jeremy, it still sound AMAZING even if the 1 2 3 4 was there. In my opinion I thought this was better than Skrillex. You`re awesome~
I bought it! I would a Maschine before and now when the MK2 is announced I would buy it!
that is insane. the hand i coordination that would take to create something like that. damn.
Absolutely loving the Kraftwerk / Cybotron vibe. Ellis slays.

That my dude, is what one would call amazing.
Jeremy's really nice in live sessions!
NON STOP,,,, THE MUSIC,,, YEEAHHHHHH
INCREIBLE !
All I know is that you need a laptop or computer for Maschine to work. Also it works with fl studios. I got a Mikro three weeks ago and its awesome!
2:54, Jeremy takes a deep breath =D
absolutely awesome!!!
In addition to what the other guy said, portamento/glide mode is turned on (im assuming this is in Massive)
WoW i didn't know that you can play live with NI Massive.Awesome
Try running two instance of the Maschine software and then selecting the controller to use for each instance.
this dude is a legend
aww mann... i need to buy this now...
Yo Jeremy crazy with that MK Juswei will be going through your tracks 4 sure

Total Kraftwerk... and by that I mean there is NOTHING in this jam that ISN'T Kraftwerk. As a loving tribute, it is quite good!
0:51 Brutal Electro preset in Massive
that just blew my mind
its the maschine software
Maschine is a hardware and software package (all sounds etc over 6Gb of them and the sequencer are stored on your hard drive and the controller just triggers/loads those sounds into your computers memory) the controller is just a bespoke bit of hardware for controlling the maschine software.
you can use the software without the controller but you can't use the controller without the software.
i need this now !
Tengo 8 años conociendo este vídeo y ahora que lo vuelvo a oír noto relación con kraftwerk será cierto???

God, i'd love one of these.
nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you are so amazing!

When you buy the Maschine or Maschine Mikro it comes with the Maschine software on a disk. you install the Maschine software with that.
Classiest DJ ever
