I just saw Jeremy Ellis tonight at Howard Theater in DC at the first night of this year's Forward Fest, and he did the best live remixing of James Brown I've ever heard in my life, and I've heard more than my fair share of live electronic takes on The Hardest-Working Man In Showbusiness.
I would rather watch a DJ battle then a rap battle. Especially now a days. Jeremy Ellis's set was cool. It took him a little longer to find his rhythm but once he did he killed it. Overall gotta give it to Jazzy Jeff, his whole set was awesome.
I saw him at radio city music hall performed the same beatbox at the Dave chappelle show with the roots... never heard of him till that night drove from Bmore to attend the show. BEST NIGHT EVER
Man I seen this yesterday and went crazy! This def. challenged me as a artist and mainly producer! The roots are my all time favorite band. Y'all take note!
He definitely tried to get fancier than Jazzy Jeff at first. Then again, traditional DJing versus MPC/Ableton/Maschine DJing are two very different beasts.
getting tired of people saying controllerism is easy. "just pushing buttons" all jimi hendrix did was pluck strings and he was a god. all jeff is doing is flicking a fader and jerkin records. both are amazing..old school and new. stop the hate and enjoy what comes out of the buttons!
You just said it. He is just pushing buttons. There were electric drum and sound machines sold to kids as toys. Anyone can do that if they practice. What Jeff did however. No
I don't play video so I honestly don't understand what I just watched aside from seeing the Legend Jazzy Jeff killing it. Although, I envisioned MF Doom and/or The Molemen rapping over that beat made from the sound pads.
I'm going to defend carrot top..lol. He didn't suck at all. I don't know how many musicians checked this out ,but some of the stuff he was doing in the beginning to the middle of his set was off time..he wasn't "off" though. The shit was actually hot and later on I was literally jumping around as if I was in the concert lmao.
ellis' shit did not sound like music, it sounded like he was testing out the machine or something, no rhythm at all, maybe im just on too much risperdal
No offense to J. Ellis but triggering samples is nothing close to actually manipulating a turntable and fader. They are both well skilled in what they do but on a technical level what they are doing is completely different. So different I don't think it's really far to be Jeff 'VS' Ellis.
Yeah I mean he only has 32 pads to hit in the right order completely in time and with funk and grove... easy... hmmm I'm guessing you're not a finger drummer otherwise your appreciate how good JE is.
Jeff killed it, Ellis gave an average performance. Who gives AF what instrument he can play when it's a BEAT DUEL. AND Larry Fine fucked up at the start . Oh and Hobo Aquatics can shut his bitch ass up too

Why would I do that??
I know what you said but why shouldn't I watch rap battles?
idk, Jeremy Rivera , i'd hafta say rap battles first, THEN the scratching...
save da best fo last, y'know.
I agree. Especially with so many rappers killing each other. Djs just have fun together. Rappers create death and violence. When will they learn?
I saw him at radio city music hall performed the same beatbox at the Dave chappelle show with the roots... never heard of him till that night drove from Bmore to attend the show. BEST NIGHT EVER
That was hot!!! very creative I was at the concert near the stage the crowd went wild!
AWESOME!
Jeremy Ellis and DJ Jazzy Jeff goin at it with a mario remix!
That was literally the shit! Can't believe he's still doing his thing.
DO WHAT YOU LOVE & LOVE WHAT YOU DO TILL THE DAY YOU DIE
A REAL DJ.
Love this DJ battle. Watch it often especially the end portion.
Mother of god I live in a good age. I grew up watching JJ and Will, glad to see him still active like this, unlike most musicians that die off.
The Mario remix on the. 4 th of July concert was awesome!!! I Love it
Man I seen this yesterday and went crazy! This def. challenged me as a artist and mainly producer!
The roots are my all time favorite band. Y'all take note!
I really hope the Ludwig drum kit was an intentional nod to the Koopa Kids.
DJ Jazzy Jeff wins. I just like scratching more than button pressing.
Jazz is so underrated fr fr
I hated Jeremy Eliss' mix at first but then it started to sound better
He definitely tried to get fancier than Jazzy Jeff at first. Then again, traditional DJing versus MPC/Ableton/Maschine DJing are two very different beasts.
2:23
diviz0r not an mpc but I feel you
I was there so epic
Both do so goood I can't decide which one is better :p
At 1:52 he just goes Scott Pilgrim level BADASS!!
Now this is DJ-ing. Not that shit playing MP3's and doing hand gestures that DJ Chuckie, Steve Aoki and more are doing...
getting tired of people saying controllerism is easy. "just pushing buttons" all jimi hendrix did was pluck strings and he was a god. all jeff is doing is flicking a fader and jerkin records. both are amazing..old school and new. stop the hate and enjoy what comes out of the buttons!
"flicking a fader and jerkin records" > "just pushing buttons"
The end.
just an opinion
the end.
Jesus... I've never seen someone better at pushing buttons. That's real talent!
You just said it.
He is just pushing buttons. There were electric drum and sound machines sold to kids as toys. Anyone can do that if they practice.
What Jeff did however. No
Bro I remember this when I was 6
I'm looking for the battle when they were battling on the James Brown's " I Got The Feeling" mix.

I still remember this when it came on tv. They were my favorite act the whole show😂😍
Is that Arnold Horshack?

The guy at 0:51 hates life
...or maybe he was that one kid in school with Sega?
or he ran out of X :)
Jajaja,he does look miserable doesnt he.
Dope
Nice.
Any way to get a clean mp3 of this? I'd love this as a ringtone but this cam audio won't cut it
Is there a version with better quality audio?
I bet some people were like "Why is Nintendo stealing this song?"
Knowing today's current generation, I wouldn't be surprised.
Wonder why the MC doesn't mention Ellis once, even at the end.
He did. You prolly couldn't hear it because this video is someone literally filming a tv and thus the sound is shait.
Wicked Style K-BOOM
dude at 0:50:
-but, i like sonic...
Nothing Beat Old fashion Turn Tables EVER !!!
Expected to be wow'd
Old school
Jeremy may have been technically more impressive, but Jazzy Jeff made it flow more smooth and easy to listen to.
man wish i could find a cleaner version of this. shit is mad jamming.
Kotaku brought me here! Love this!
my god at 2:19 until the end was crazy.. this whole video was amazing tho
Was DJ Jazzy Jeff using Serato?
I don't play video so I honestly don't understand what I just watched aside from seeing the Legend Jazzy Jeff killing it. Although, I envisioned MF Doom and/or The Molemen rapping over that beat made from the sound pads.

Bout to go play super Mario brothers
This was cool...but i could barely hear it
Yeah man. Lost art of the B O X and the Itch and Scratch. Brother ? maintaining the Pace
Is it wrong for me to keep repeating Jeff's set???🤣🤣🤣
Trucker Dale skills r dope!
Jeremy’s set was 🔥 to
Ellis set was bad here, he is awesome though
ellis' shit did not sound like music, it sounded like he was testing out the machine or something, no rhythm at all, maybe im just on too much risperdal
would have been good if the sound wasnt so freaking MUFFLED!
Would've been so much better if that dude stopped talking into the mic
Second dude's stuff sounded terrible in the beginning, but it was tight in the end.
Jeremy sounded better when they did the Roots You Got Me
Jeff wins no doubt
Guy @0:50 has never played Mario =(
JEFF WINS....
Spoiler alert: Carrot Top loses.
damn i think he killed jeff on that one. still i wish people would do more good music like this.
Are you nuts?
pretty sure jeremy ellis is a weasly outta harry potter
No offense to J. Ellis but triggering samples is nothing close to actually manipulating a turntable and fader. They are both well skilled in what they do but on a technical level what they are doing is completely different. So different I don't think it's really far to be Jeff 'VS' Ellis.
Actually, manipulating a turntable and fader is nothing close to playing real instruments...so this leaves me wondering what yer point is....
Yeah I mean he only has 32 pads to hit in the right order completely in time and with funk and grove... easy... hmmm
I'm guessing you're not a finger drummer otherwise your appreciate how good JE is.
Jeremy Ellis is actually classically trained piano player as well as a finger drummer.
This is the part where ole Eso Teric learns to be quiet. lol
Jeff killed it, Ellis gave an average performance. Who gives AF what instrument he can play when it's a BEAT DUEL. AND Larry Fine fucked up at the start . Oh and Hobo Aquatics can shut his bitch ass up too
This is pappinn
Wow, Jazzy Jeff clearly lost.
the disc dj sounds better
lol what ever Jeremy Ellis was doing sounded horrible at the beginning, the middle, and the end.
I don't find this anything special...they don't let the sound flowww
Jazzy Jeff won that battle took Jeremy Ellis too long to scratch records Jazzy Jeff was already on from the start kill that Mario beat
Jeremy won that battle.
I'm cringing.
Jeremy Ellis - fast, but shit
Dope
