This might be the last time we hear from any character from TOS, so cherish every minute of it. Walter also recently lost his beloved wife of 55 years and while it's heartbreaking, I'm glad it hasn't stopped him to continue to live his life.

@High Performance IQ I mean in character. Technically, he was playing the son of Pavel Chekov which is, in essence really Pavel from TOS. Hopefully, they're all healthy and will have many more years ahead of them, but due to advancing age, they just not going get a lot more opportunities to reprise their roles in any official capacity.

@@brownro214 if you replace character with actor, what he said works. So I’m my head cannon thats what he meant. Obviously you are technically correct, but it shouldnt matter. Also he was quoting his dad. So also technically we were hearing from that character.

@@tracymetherell8744 me too... I didn't find out till it was a teenager that I was autistic, my father worded it in such a way (he didn't like using the word at all) he worded it like this I have a distant cousin who was diagnosed with autism when I was a boy and she ended up in an institution and there was no way I was going to allow that to happen to you. It is ironic it is a very small child I think I was about three or two or three years of age I was watching with my father on our supposedly portable color TV which was not very portable I mean that thing should have been a relative not kidding you it was huge and it was heavy and there was no such thing as a remote back then you had to get up and change the channel but it was the first of its kind as far as color TVs and portability went. And she had seen that there was a commercial that had come on for I have no idea if it was meant to be a news program or if it was an actual commercial for an institution concerning autistic people my father immediately wanted the channel changed, I don't remember which of us got up and change the channel it was probably me remember that he want we ended up watching Star Trek TOS certain specific episode long story short I the first time told my father that I felt like both Spock and uhura in the episode they were both having difficulties in different ways with understanding and being able to do something, for Spock it was the idea that things were not logical and they couldn't understand how humans deal with it and I could relate to that and it with a hora it was like what people were saying to her didn't make any sense because her ability to speak standard I eat English have been taken away and she had to relearn everything from scratch, and I didn't understand what sometimes people would be saying to me it didn't always make sense to me, so these two people became my role models, when I told my father about that I didn't quite understand and that how this related to me from the show he told me when you don't understand people mimic them and he told me to use logic to try to understand them. It's because of TOS and my father, and the fact that he let my mother believed that I wasn't all that bad you know how can a child of ours were so intelligent excetera be different, no my father would tell her she's not different she's slow, but she'll get there, my mother always believed that I was slow but to quote her I might be highly intelligent but I was slow to comprehend therefore there is nothing wrong with me I just need more time. I think if my father had not convinced her that what the doctor was telling her was a bunch of poppycock that chances are I would have ended up in one of those institutions, how many times have I heard my mother say to me I'd rather have 10 boys than one girl and how many times has she told me that had the child between me and my brother survived I'd have never been born and my father had a way of giving her everything that she wanted so if she had believed that I was somehow really defective that time would not fix she probably would have put me there but she never really believed it you were just slow she would say... But in many ways I got lucky. I had awho believed in me more than I ever believed in myself because I did not have my mother in my corner on my side the fact is she never really wanted me, but my father apparently had always wanted his little girl he wanted to have somebody who could represent the loss of his life which was his mother, because he was Jewish even if he was secular Jewish he wanted to have the mitzvah (it isn't An obligation it's like an extra brownie point in the religion) have having both a boy and a girl, although to this day some part of me does not believe him when he says that had the child between me and my brother survived he would have still had me because he wanted his little girl, and that child would have been a boy.
I'd looked at women who were strong women where was smart she was strong she could be very feminine at times but she was very Kick-Ass when it required her to be that way, you could say she was strong in her very many reasons for very way of projecting herself, and I'm really glad that Martin Luther King convinced her not give up the role he was right because in so many ways she was a role model for so many, little girls could be more than merely secretaries and nurses they could be anything and shats what she represented shirreffs that represented the possibilities that would be out there especially for a person like me who doesn't exactly look very white, I'm not black but I have been mistaken for everything under the sun, and that includes African-American... And that is always amusing to me because I'm white in places that never see this light of day, yes there may be few of those places and I don't burn the way white people do I turn red like a lobster or like some native Americans do. But I have always been the odd one out even in elementary school where I was mistaken for being Oriental because of my almond eyes... I'm not Asian either. The point is I've never belonged anywhere I've never felt I belonged these two characters portrayed by these two actors gave me something as a child that there is so little of these days and which I don't have at all these days is Hope, actual hope for a better future what that show tried to give to the people who watched it when do they knew it or not they were trying to instill in people the idea that the future would be hopefully a much better place. And the beginning of next generation it was the same they tried to instill that there was hope and after one or two seasons it went downhill in the sense that it lost that ability is lost that hope and everyone since then has been darker and darker and there has been less hope in Star Trek, let's hope for a better future a brighter future one that might get things right.
There's something I wanted to add but it wouldn't let me put it here because it said it's an invalid argument I don't know maybe it's too long... But I really liked they made Anton Chekhov the son of Pavel who is now president of the federation give that little speech especially the last part, unfortunately I wish I could believe it but I don't and the addition I'm going to put under this will explain why.

Nichelle tripped on some steps during her Q&A, then laughed it off saying something like "twenty years of ballet and I'm defeated by stairs." The other was Walter telling the crowd how he begged for a cameo in TNG. "Time travel, dream sequence, I could even play my son! Can I please just be on the show?" I had no idea that the production team of Star Trek Picard had gotten any of the remaining TOS cast involved in the show. I am happy that they got the TNG cast together for one last adventure. It really did wrap everything up for me with the TNG era of Star Trek. I've been watching and following Star Trek since 1990 and it was a bittersweet moment for me watching the crew of the Enterprise D gather around the table in one of the final scenes for a few rounds of poker like they did at the end of "All Good Things..." It's sad that their story has come to a close and I'm grateful for the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation for giving us everything they had in giving us a good show over the years and giving us some very memorable characters that we've all grown fond of. The 86 years old could actually be the age of Anton Chekov if his Father (Pavel) had him when he was 70 years old. Pavel born 2245, Son would then be born 2315. Picard S3 taking place with the 250th anniversary of Frontier Day placing it as April 2401 which would be 86 years after 2315.

Live his cameo appearance and it's great to see him happy and still full of life!

What a great interview! I so enjoyed watching TOS as a young lad of 10 and now watching Picard season 3 that hearing Walter Koenig's voice doing "Anton Chekoff" feels so reminiscent of those earlier years. Something I caught on episode 9 was the destruction of the USS Excelsior by the other Borg controlled star ships as the crew took back control of their ship. The computer screen briefly showed the names of one of 4 ships firing on Excelsior as "The Hikaru Sulu." I yelled "no friggin' way!" Sulu would be rolling in his grave! 😮

The sprinkling of Easter eggs going all the way back to Star Trek TOS brought joy to my heart Terry Matalas did a excellent of job of Confirming the Canon history of the original Constitution Class Starship of Star Trek TOS era and not the rebooted version.seeing The USS Enterprise NCC 1701-A really was a joy. Knowing her fate as a historical ship in Stafleet Lore and History. As well as the other ships in the museum and seeing the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D take her place as well. A fitting tribute as well.
