I love watching the sped-up action of building the grade. At normal speed, it’s hard to see the direction, but as soon as it’s sped up, it’s like watching art!
Shawn you guys are the hardest working dudes in show business. How do you keep from getting overwhelmed when everything is apart like that? Wow that came together just great. Thanks for posting, and looking forward to the next one.
Can't wait for the next instalment. I've been watching your channel for a few years now, .I was able to think about a drainage solution for my property down here in Australia 🇦🇺. I basically told a plumber what I wanted done and we solved the problem together. Now no swimming pool in my driveway or garage. I feel like I'm one of your lucky customers that's had a flooding disaster solved. Thanks to you and your team.
This transformation is pretty amazing to be honest, it looked the worst for a while, now when the grass gets hold, it will be a place of beuty and enjoyment for the customer, superb job as always And, have to add this, haha, when you asked if you should go over the sod, I laughed, cause I knew you would never do that, we know you so well after following you so long 😁
Great video as always. Alittle tip if you know your going to be doing a lot of driving over it cap all the ends fill it with water. It’s a lot stronger when it has water or pressure in it.
Wow! Once you filled it all in and graded it how you envisioned, then laid the sod on top, it was obvious you knew what needed to be done. Looks very nice. Tough "break" on the pipe.
Saw the notification earlier tonight that you guys uploaded a new video, and things have finally quieted down here around the house enough for me to watch. Great way to end the night with some drainage solutions.
Difficult plot of land but can appreciate your methodical approach to giving the water a path to flow naturally away from the buildings. PS - Looking forward to the final work video and your rain storm acid test!
Watching your videos, is like a series on TV!…Very relaxing, fulfilling too!… you completely changed the whole property. It looks so beautiful now, plus it’s functional. Can’t wait to the next episode. Keep up the good work.
Great mix of science, theory, and practice. Always enjoy your videos. Hope you touch up the neighbor's driveway edge further down towards the road as they made access so much easier.
Great video, that grading came together really well and that turf tech machine is “the pup’s nuts” , I could do with one of those when I finish a barn conversion project for my mum. It’s set in to a slope so am putting a swale round the back of it to divert surface water away in the event of heavy rains. Guess where I learnt that? Thanks for all your effort in making these vids, I certainly appreciate them.👋😀🇬🇧
Huge and interesting project and as usual, you guys have done terrific work. One of the top shelf Gate City Foundation Drainage mini series. All the best.
Shawn I love where this is going bro job's looking great already, shout out to Jeremy and the main man Ronald the " last piece" is always the piece on any job blessings.
Very slick smoother than a pancake from this angle...Already another total transformation...Unfort for the pipe, oh well at least you know where the extra stash is located
If this is only part 2 of 4, how much more is there to do. I cannot wait until the next 2 instalments to see the finished product, but it is already looking great so far, a big transformation.
Hey Shawn. I was watching the video and noticed the bug you were calling a wasp mimic. I’m pretty sure that one was a red headed ash borer (Neoclytus Acuminatus. Great video as always.
Yes the homeowner has been watering it. I was just out there this week in the rain and it's in really good shape. It's been about 4 months since we installed it.
I have been learning a lot from your videos on proper grading and drainage. You guys care about the quality of work that is done and doing it right the first time which is hard to find these days. Do you guys ever work around the surrounding Charlotte areas? If not do you know anyone that does quality work in the surrounding Charlotte area? Thanks for any info
It definitely could be. I wanted to get this down so it could have time to settle and stabilize. I wouldn’t do concrete right away after so much soil was brought in.
Shaun, I understand adding soil to give water runoff but if/when that soil gets wet doesn’t the dampness just go in thru the brickwork and the cement joints? I would have thought that the lower wall of the house need sealing/waterproofing?
It had recently been painted. The water should run along the surface easier than soaking into the dirt once things settle and the sod takes hold. The idea is keeping the water off the foundation so any waterproofing is not needed.
As long as the surface water moves away and doesn't "pool" behind or run to the structure, there shouldn't be enough water to penetrate the foundation.
Is schedule 40 really strong enough that a Bobcat can run it right over without breaking? I realize you broke a spot where you spun on it, but I was surprised there wasn't a lot more broken pipe.
He shouldn't have been driving over it like he was. There wasn't enough top soil over that pipe to drive over it. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't crack some more pipe.
It would never damage the hydraulics (Hoses, cylinders, valves, etc), unless they were already damaged and weak. Biggest fear is the operator getting thrown as the machine tips.
@@GCFD I’ve always had luck with the straw netting then hydro seed. Sod for me is hard for customers to take care of. They seem to be more upset when they see the brown in the grass due to watering issues. Around here a lot of people use hydro seeding with netting for erosion control. Tell the client to get a sprinkler turn it on and let it sit for 20 or so minutes around in different areas. Make sure it gets saturated but not left pooling with water. Give it a few weeks it starts to come in and about a month later and it will start to look nice.
Now I hope youtold these two homeowners, that the sod has to watered for atleast an hour each day for two weeks, then everyother day for 2 weeks? That is the proper way to make sure sod survives

Pretty amazed with the law of large numbers you didnt hit a building with so many passes by a corner! Good driving!

I know you are super busy (aside from UA-cam). Regardless, I've been waiting with baited breath for the sequels on this one! Thanks, Shawn!
That swale is mighty good-looking!!! Excellent work Shawn!
You guys make it look easy but I know it's super hard work. Thanks Shawn, loved it!!
I'm sure getting all that dirt at a discount or free will greatly help the bottom line. It was a win, win for you and the dirt man. Fantastic.

Wow it is looking great! And a win / win on getting the dirt from close by, saving both of you from hauling a greater distance!
Great video, as always, Shawn. I can't wait for the next few parts.

coming on well Shawn, and it looks great with the turf down 👍👍

I like, how the pipe creeped into video by breaking itself on purpose ;)
Opening dirt mine few streets away was money saver for everyone, I guess

Great job there. The layout and basin of the sod looks great

Surprised there is no irrigation system to water that beautiful new sod. Love that sodded swale at video’s end. 👌
The area required a drainage system *and* a swale, probably enough water there already!
If this is only part 2 of 4, how much more is there to do. I cannot wait until the next 2 instalments to see the finished product, but it is already looking great so far, a big transformation.
There’s a driveway then finishing up around the house addition and doing a few pavers.
It looks gorgeous
Please go all the way around. Smart move

Good stuff! A little bit of hard work to get it right!
Fantastic
Thank you Julie!
Looks so good with the sod on!
Neat project. Cheers.

Beautiful job! Well done 👍🏻

Sure hope that sod makes it. You indicated it was dormant, but it didn’t look good.
Looks great!
Been waiting for this, thanks Shawn!
Lets get this man to 100k subs ASAP!
Great job 👏❤
Love it ! awesome job !
I really enjoy the series videos. I'm curious, what purpose would a Beetle have to camouflage its self as a wasp? Protection?
I hope you got some water on that turf? Thanks for sharing Shawn.
Made me wonder when this video was filmed. That sod did not look good at all.
He said it was 40 degrees when they were laying the sod. The work was probably done several months ago.
Yes the homeowner has been watering it. I was just out there this week in the rain and it's in really good shape. It's been about 4 months since we installed it.
Nice. 👍
Hi Sean,
a heads up, the text title says part 2 of 4, even though the picture and prior video say 2 of 3 and 1 of 3
can't wait to watch this.
I know! This is going to be a 4 part-er. I need to change the titles and thumbs.
@@GCFD nice, an extra course in the meal!

Tough break on the pipe and whatever took out the pass headlight on the truck towing the big bobcat.
I wonder if a concrete/paved mower strip would’ve been more effective along the dwelling to make it easier to cut the grass
It definitely could be. I wanted to get this down so it could have time to settle and stabilize. I wouldn’t do concrete right away after so much soil was brought in.
Get some water on that sod before it burns up 💧💧💧
In 40° weather?
The homeowner watered it an hour after we installed. It was still pretty chilly out. The sod looks great as I was over there this week during a rain.
Shaun, I understand adding soil to give water runoff but if/when that soil gets wet doesn’t the dampness just go in thru the brickwork and the cement joints? I would have thought that the lower wall of the house need sealing/waterproofing?

You got those sod delivered or you pick up yourself ..come in pallets or loose ..😂😂
We picked up the pallets from the sod place. 👍
Go around !
Can we get a update on the “sea of concrete” job. Particularly the front where you had to redo the concrete and where the big basin is. Please
Any link to part 3?

👏
Those pipes don’t break when bobcat go over it ?
Yes they do 😢
When I hit one spinning around they do!
I said, "go around" 😂
👍👍
So what happened to the beetle? How's he doing?
The beetle flew away and I'm assuming he made out just fine. 👍
It’s weird to not see the end result in your videos… i hope we get to see the water running through the discharge pipes in video 4.
Why use mission bands there over glued PVC repair couplings?
We didn't have any play to move the pipes apart and insert a coupler.
@@GCFD I saw you didn't have any play, but you don't need any with repair couplings, they don't have stops.
Customer should've had a sprinkler system installed before the sod
Check out part 3. We get so much rain here in NC that sprinklers aren't really needed.
Eat more pizzas, then you'll be able to pick up bigger pallets with that mini bobcat!
Man I was cringing when I saw the load on that machine Shawn. I would never risk damaging the arms or hydraulics like that. ⚠
It would never damage the hydraulics (Hoses, cylinders, valves, etc), unless they were already damaged and weak. Biggest fear is the operator getting thrown as the machine tips.
I prefer hydro seeding over sod
Why's that? We needed an instant erosion control with all the water coming through there.

It's an awesome building. They are adding onto the house as well and fixing it up. 👍
Soooo. You're just going to leave all that dirt up against that sheet metal ever the old package unit used to live
From the last video
No the mason is going to fill that in when they do the foundation for the addition (should have been done by now).
Surely that amount of dirt that high against the house isn't any good.
