    I recently stocked up on grass-fed ribeye steaks through Butcher Box. I've never tried grass-fed or pastured beef before, so I wanted to first taste it alongside grain-fed or conventional steak, this one from Costco. I invited a friend to join me, and the results surprised us. Enjoy!

      You made my day, Michael! Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad this was helpful. And I'll definitely have to bring Rachael onto my channel more often. I love hanging out with her anyway.
      Not intermittent fasting... prolonged fasting. Snake Diet, if you're familiar... I have plenty of mixed feelings about its front man Cole Robinson, but lots of respect for him as a citizen scientist. I'm fully on board with the healthiness of prolonged fasts. I have yet to post a video about my fasting and weight loss... it will come, probably when I hit my "goal weight" (or some other meaningful milestone). But I've lost 148 pounds so far...

      @@BeckyMarshallDesign So I looked into the snake diet. I'm going to try a 48 - 72 hour fast this weekend. How long do you usually go; just curious? After you told me about the diet I researched it. I realized that I had come across it once before when I became interested in dry fasting. I am pretty excited to try it. Even with how radical it is in society/our "melting-pot culture," I have always thought of fasting as natural and it has finally peaked my interest enough to tip the scale thanks to you.

    The Costco ribeye has been needle tenderized which is done to all Costco meat. Grass fed/ grass finished beef is more nutritious.

    Prime would definitely taste better. It's younger and more marbled thus more tender and juicy. Though it'd be grain fed, thus less healthy. Kudos to knowing that it was grass finished. There's a lot of products out there that are labeled grass fed that are finisheder with grain the last six months of their life that negate the positive benefits of grass fed. The other thing you can do which will make your local butcher question you is to buy a slab and have them cut it in 3" strips. Get a hot pan on the highest heat you can, sear the two sides, salt/pepper then put it in the oven at a slow and low temp of 250 (can be higher like 300) until 135-140 inside. Then let it sit out. Cut it in one inch vertically, serve. My partner's parents use to own a meatpacking place in manhattan and that's really the best way I've seen these steaks cooked. It's red as can be in the middle but cooked. Delicious.

    Cows take longer to reach a good hanging weight when fed purely grass, since they use calories to travel to eat more calories, and it takes a lot more grass to reach the same calorie load as comparable to a smaller amount of grains. That's why grass fed cattle are smaller than grain-fed cattle. And grain fed cattle are typically a lot younger than grass-fed, since they can get fatter quicker, hence why grass fed meat is darker in color. The cows are normally older. I think a grain-fed cow can reach a good hanging weight between 6 months and 18 months, compared to almost three years for a 100% grass fed cow to reach the same size.
    It's more expensive to raise grass fed cattle, since not only does the farmer need more land for grass, but also the amount of time it takes to raise the animal, and you get normally less meat out of the cow.
    What do I prefer? Grassfed...

      Sure it takes longer. Eat less meat. Get some chickens to run around those skinny cows. Eat chicken in between. Get some sheep, lamb is amazing. Problem solved.

    Although I wholeheartedly disagree with you that grass fed taste better. It does have a few more vitamins than grain finished beef. I do recommend that you don’t trust butcher block. Do try to find a rancher that will take your purchased animal straight to the processor just like you said. It cost less and both grass and grain finished beef taste way better than what you get from a store. I loved your video and will be tuning in for more. 👍🏼👍🏼

    My diet has been roughly 95% beef steaks for the past year and a half. (Yes, you can live on just steak. And, you can be healthier than you ever were previously.)
    Here's a tip for you two, and anyone else that could benefit:
    One of the joys of eating steak, is using a sharp steak knife. Unfortunately, ceramic dishes dull the sharpest of knives, as you use them.
    Therefore, it is best to forego the classy ceramic plates, and choose the cheap, and somewhat pathetic plastic dinner plates, while enjoying wonderful steak. The benefit is that the plastic will not dull your freshly sharpened knives, and they will be a pleasure to use on your steaks.
    Of course, if the president phones and informs you of an impromptu dinner visit, go with the fine china. (He's much too dull to understand logic.) 😀

    • @foofstarr4856
      @foofstarr4856 2 роки тому

      That's so dumb, eat a steak on plastic? Cut thru and eat plastic? The dumbest advice ever. A good knife will not dull from eating steak one time on a ceramic plate. Also, you can always sharpen your knives. Glass is class. Throw the plastic crap away and save the environment.

      Source your beef uncommercially from an actual cattle ranch that free ranges on what natures got in that area.theres a reason some of the most sought after beef comes from the high country places in western united states and parts of Australia where nutrient rich soil grows the best grass for bovine to pasture on. Choice is old dairy cattle that cant produce anymore and prime aint nothin more than a stamp you pay more for and if you think the usda gives a hoot about giving the public a quality nutrition source, well id love tell you about an ocean front property i got for sale in Arizona and if ya pay me enough ill even throw the golden gate in for free. Nice review though but Blind test a 2”x2” piece of each n then see if you can tell the difference. and I do enjoy butcher box as a secondary option when I cant get ahold of other beef or bison.
