I prefer Airfix .. we use them for a game called Mustangs and Messershmitts. The option of a pilot and ease of gear being modeled retracted is a huge plus! Not to mention cost and availability here in the states
Still, if I somehow got an Arma kit I wouldn’t mind. I do appreciate the range of markings available in all the Arma kits

Yeah I agree, the ArmaHobby cost has started to get a bit out of reach for most modellers now.

Purchased their P-51 kit and it has incredible detail. Arma has raised the bar for 72nd scale kits.

Completely agree. And now they're bringing out the Hayate too!!!

Very informative, once Airfix did the MkIV, with rockets, but strangely not the more famous Mk I. I hope that in the box there's also the tripale propeller, given that in the BoB they were equipped with it.

Great little video, and well built models. You actually informed me that the Mk 1 had fabric wings which I did not know. Just one thing though the first propeller had two blades not one blade. It may have been a one piece wooden unit but it had two blades- thanks for showing your models

Overall the Arma kits are better than the Airfix, as in they have less mistakes, but then Arma do not do the fabric wing variant. Note the Arma Mk.I is a bit more fiddly than their Mk.II's. One point, both the Airfix and Aram hobby UC legs can be added later in the builds than stated if you are careful, which makes working on the model a lot easier. It should be noted that Mk.I Hurricanes are far more complex than usually realised, with a whole series of small modifications being introduced over production. 7 different props/spinners, 5 and 4 spoke wheel, early windscreen with out without armour, then the standard windscreen, early fuselage without ventral strake and smaller rudder, 3 type of exhaust, introduction of rectangular equipment hatch on the starboard side, pole antenna vs streamlined type. The Airfix caters for the early Mk.I, Arma for mid to late, but neither kit really does the bit inbetween, . To be fair, most people would be hard pressed to run through all the differences and what is is on what.....to the casual eye all Hurricane look the same, Some other points, the Mk.IIC was not meant for ground attack, and neither was the Typhoon, which was designed as the Hurricane replacement and was meant to be a fighter, but they were roles that they were adapted for. the Spitfire was NOT a single airframe throughout the war, but was continuously modified, mostly in respect to engines and armament and fins/rudders, the only really common part between a Mk.I and a late Mk.22/24 is the lower rear fuselage. , the Hurricane in comparison had minimal modifications, but was meant to be replaced by the Typhoon. The Hurricane absolutely did not 'morph' into the Typhoon, which was new separate design, though the Tempest was a development of the Typhoon, using the Typhoon fuselage mated with a new wing, this wing mated to a new fuselage becomes the Sea Fury. The Hurricane IID was a very limited use type, being only equipped with the 40mm gun, and about 300 were built. It was generally replaced with the Mk.IV, with the universal wing. I've been pestering Arma to do a IID/IV kit, which again really needs a new wing and a few other details. The IID and IV are not well covered references though. This is without getting into the one built in Canada (approx 1.500) and the Sea Hurricane, or the extensive Hurricane use by the Soviet Union, and their programme of regunning the Mk.IIA/B versions with Soviet weapons, or their 2 seater conversions.....Hope of interest, I can link you to information on all the above topics if you want to know more.

Airfix effectively did a MkIV, but logically was very primitive, then made an "universal" kit with various parts in the box that allowed some versions (also the AT one) but was criticized for the wrong "hunch" of the fuselage.

Nice little video and very informative for those on the look out for a Hurricane. I have both and they are beautiful models. Both companies are really stepping up their game with revamping kits, which is nothing but good news for us all.
Perhaps the Tempest could be your next topic.

There's actually a couple of Tempest Video's on this channel already. I covered Airfix's Mk. V and Kovosovody's Tempest II.
I bought a 2nd Airfix Typhoon because that's a great kit too so I'll probably do a build video of that one!

Kovosovody make a very nice Typhoon for comparison.

It’s surprising that since the Airfix early Hurricane kit comes with a separate lower fuselage section, I’m assuming in order to make it easier to bring out a Sea Hurricane model, they didn’t supply a lower fuselage section without the ventral strake to allow people to model the very first Hurricanes to enter service.

2:23 what was the point of painting belly black n white? quick identification for own anti-aircraft gunners or smthing?

for me arma hobby's "legs" look too high(I noticed it when put 1/72 pilot next to model - so may be it's the pilot is short, not struts are long ). don't have airfix hurricane to compare with, so are they actually higher than they should be or not?

Ooo good question. Next time im up in the man cave I'll take a look. I haven't noticed it but of course, in this scale 2.5cm is 2m on the real thing so being a couple of millimeters out is significant

Airfix brought out the Hurricane IIC, which can be build as a Sea Hurricane IIC it also can be build as a tropical version

Thank you! :-) I would say going like for like with a ranking Arma Hobby wins out 95 to Airfix's 90. But it all depends on your budget, which Mark you want to build and if there's a specific aircraft you want to depict.

To be fair to Airfix, if you want an early Hurricane, you won't do any better atm imho.
If you are a stickler for accuracy there are a few areas you could improve.
IIRC the wheels should be 4 spoke not the 5 spoke provided, but don't quote me on that.
The fabric immediately behind the gun panels on the wing need filling and sanding, as they were actually metal so the armourers could maintain and rearm the guns.
There's a couple of other small details.

there seems to me to be a size/scale difference when the two kits are placed side-by-side. Are my eyes deceiving me?

I think it's the camouflage and the box size that creates that illusion. Looking back at the video I see what you mean.
