Sweden has a long standing, weird subculture that has a foundation in 50s american greaser culture that is prevalent in rural areas, as well as smaller towns. It is generally associated with anti-intellectual, macho and overall quite trashy behavior. They’re quite benign though, mostly just an embarrasing nuisance. A person belonging to this subculture is called a raggare. There are different types of raggare though and their mannerisms can vary as a result, some are trashier than others. Music is an important aspect of the subculture and it’s strongly associated with rockabilly, country and a Swedish genre called dansband, which kind of is an amalgamation of pop country, 60s pop rock and mostly older contemporary music. It’s cheesy as all hell too. Cars are another important aspect of the subculture and the focus is either on American cars from the 50s 60s (either extremely well kept or trashed beyond belief, rarely any middle ground) or older and new-ish Volvos.

It’s a very sparsely populated and very rural place. There are no real cities there, the biggest urban settlement has about 2 500 people living in it. It’s mostly made up of slow growing pine forests in the foothills of the fells, as well as the barren fells themselves. Hunting, snowmobiles and skiing are central interests for the people living there.
The whole region has around 9,000 people, on an area the size of Korea
