As much as I love the Shawn Michaels vs Chris Jericho match, to me the best match on the card was Hulk Hogan vs Mr. McMahon in the Street Fight. The match is very underrated and they told a damn good story. WrestleMania XIX is definitely a hidden gem because it doesn't get enough credit for how great it was.

    • @Fortune31Studios
      @Fortune31Studios Рік тому +7

I think the biggest reason for it being underrated & classic at the same time is it was during a serious transition from the crash style tv of the attitude era to a skilled wrestling base product. I think the older fans weren't ready to accept Angle/Benoit/Guerrero type performers as main events. I think too there was alot of wrestling fatigue. Fans were still burned out from the monday night wars. It's couple factors imo.

    • @fraziergentry7301

@@Fortune31Studios I agree. Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, and Eddie Guerrero 3 of the absolute best to ever do it and they were wrestlers which to your point they weren't ready for smaller guys. But I will say that Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels set the bar very high in the 90s as smaller wrestlers that could be World Champions and have some of the greatest matches in WWE history.

      @@Fortune31Studios Grasping for straws, lol.
The problem was simply that the vanilla midgets never looked like proper wrestlers. You teach your audience for multiple decades and generations that they should be heavyweight, muscular guys and then suddenly drop guys with 1/3 of the weight of Hogan into the ring. But it wasn't just that. Never forget that the most important thing about wrestling is connecting with the crowd, having charisma and being able to cut promos. Benoit sucked at all of that, it doesn't matter that he knew how to wrestle and make it look real, nobody ever gave a shit about that. Eddie is the lowest drawing WWE Champion of all time because he had nothing that intrigued the majority of the crowd. Those guys also never drew a dime in ECW or WCW either after all (Eddie made 1 dollar from merchandise sales in 1997 in WCW, lol)
You can't put cruiserweight wrestlers into the main event and think it would work. Most viewers will never take that serious, not when they think they could beat them up easily. Rey was the one anomaly, a small guy who drew, mostly because he was so small he fell into the David vs. Goliath role.

@@fraziergentry7301 Bret was the lowest drawing WWF Champion in History from 1992 until 2001 and still holds the distinction as main eventing the worst drawing WWF PPV of all time. If anything, he should've been a red flag to Vince that vanilla midgets simply never draw. HBK also did really bad until the DX catched on (and way better during his return to the ring, mostly thanks to nostalgia)

@@shadowangel2235 No that distinguish goes to Kevin Nash. (Diesel) or maybe The Ultimate Warrior. There's no way that could have happened.

@@juicybear7696 17 is laughably overrated. Austin vs. Rock was very good, but not any greather than their WM XV match. Everything else? Opener was fine. Tag match sucked. Followed by your token "by the numbers" Hardcore match. Test vs Eddie was bad. Benoit vs. Angle was surprisingly weak, you'd expect them to drop a 5 star match without problems, but somehow, it was just meh. Ivory vs. Chyna was total garbage. The McMahon Street Fight was 2 non wrestlers trying and failing to go beyond a mediocre Raw level match. The TLC might be great if you love non-psychology, non-selling spot monkey bullshit, but even then you have to admit you already saw most of the spot numerous times before in the previous encounters between those teams. The Gimmick battle Royal of course was total garbage. Undertaker vs. Triple H was yet another match between those two with a obvious lack of chemistry (Taker never was able to work with Triple H or Austin, all the matches sucked)
WMXIX starts weak and gets worse. Hardy vs. Rey is surprisingly weak. The Triple Threat is complete garbage. Women match is trash. Tag match is weak. Shit Bizkit sucks. But the second half of the show is awesome. Shawn Michaels vs. Jericho is near perfect. Triple H vs. Booker is surprisingly good. Hogan vs. McMahon was way better than it had any right to be. Rock vs. Austin was the same old, but still very solid and Lesnar vs. Angle was amazing.

We don’t care about the hype of Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock because the match was already at WM 15 and WM 17 it was pretty much stale. I personally wanted to see the Booker T Vs Triple H match I was there live in the crowd. Nobody cared for the rock and Austin I am an actual wrestling fan and not a fan of sports entertainment. Nobody cared about their third match in Seattle the best matches at WM 19 was HBK vs Jericho Vince McMahon vs Hogan and Triple H vs Booker T… and I noticed when Jim Ross was talking about the triple H booker T world title match he kept referring to Booker T as Triple H. It shows you that Jim Ross is way too old for his job and he should retire and I’m not a fan of hearing about AEW. This is about WM 19. We don’t come on here to hear about AEW

I would have had Booker t lose this match as well. Simply because Brock Lesnar is obviously going to beat angle and that's more important than Booker t winning and I don't think both matches should have had a face winning win a bunch of faces one other matches as well. However, I definitely wouldn't have had triple h take 5 minutes to fucking pin him. But I would have given Booker t a rematch at the next pay-per-view and had him win against triple h and then have a one or two months rain before dropping it back to triple h. That play Booker t gets his win but at that time triple h was the top guy. And Booker t is the only one during what people call his reign of terror, that I think he should have put over. Kevin Nash was pretty much done Scott Steiner was hurt RVD wasn't ready. Kane didn't need it although I would have definitely given Kane a championship run when he unmasked. But look at all the top guys. Stone Cold Cena Hogan they all had long runs where they barely put anyone over so triple h didn't do anything that all of the top guys didn't do. But again I definitely would have had Booker when at the next pay-per-view and get his revenge and hold the title for a couple months before losing.

This is a good take. What a lot of marks lose sight of is that HHH wasn't hogging all the heat at this time, he was sharing it with Orton and Batista.. he was increasing their stock slowly but surely until people wanted to see them leave the nest. HHH needed wins to build tension up. The Evolution time period served it's purpose and accomplished the larger goal of getting new guys over.. people take for granted the fact that Orton and Batista were nobodies when that angle started.. and like you said, RVD has no one to blame but himself and whoever was writing his character.. he was over, he was over from day 1.. but his promos and "whatever bro" stoner character at that time did not fit in the main event w/ where HBK or HHH or Goldberg were at at that time, those were the guys with the belt and they were a tier above.. The Jerichos and RVDs of the world were in the mid-card at that time, but the roster was loaded, they both easily could have filled that role if needed, they just weren't the top guys.. A few years later when the ECW stuff came around RVD finally regained some life in his character and his promos sounded more authentic and he had some intensity behind him, but in 02' he was a cartoon character.

Undertakers was not undefeated!!! He lost here!! Let me explain
The match was supposed to be a tag but due to Nathan Jones "not being able to wrestle" it was not announced by the ring announcer as a tag-team but instead as handicap!! So therefore when Nathan Jones came to the ring and hit Big show and a train, that would have been a disqualifications us giving undertaker his first loss!! Haha I did a tryout with TNA and afterwards went to dinner with a bunch of the wrestlers and Brian hebner was there and I made sure to tell him that he should have handed undertaker his first loss haha he got a kick out of that.
    That being said
The undertaker match was WAY WAY better than it should have been. He looked GREAT. That match was really not bad at all.

I don't believe Cody is going to win. WWE is going to continue to shove Roman reigns down our throats. Uso are going to win as well. WrestleMania don't seem like WrestleMania with Undertaker not being on the card !! Cena is definitely losing to help push Austin Theory !! Hopefully edge wins against Finn
