JR is just going to pretend WCW was stupid for not seeing potential in Austin, when Jim and the WWF booking team didn't see his potential either until 2 years into his run with their company.
Where did you get two years from? They hired him in December 1995 and made him King of the Ring and started listening to Bret about his potential and letting Bret work with him overseas inside the first 8 months, and by Mania 13 they already had him earmarked as their next guy to have a go at making "the man."
@@stevepmg9202 Austin was signed in 1995 and wasn't considered for the main event until 1997. That's two years genius. They can try to rewrite history with that King of the Ring promo all they want, but they didn't put him in the WWF Title scene until a year and a half after that. Don't regurgitate that WWE Network narrative to me. I seen it live. They didn't give Austin a pot to piss in until two years after he was signed. They didn't book him any better than WCW until his skills and popularity became too obvious to ignore. These guys thought Triple H was the next big star. They didn't care about Austin until the fans made them care. My point is JR acting like WCW was too clueless to book him properly when his first two years in the WWF were far more mind boggling than his WCW run was, is a bit ironic to say the least.

I think it's hilarious that JR always takes shots at fans or not knowing anything about how to book a show because they aren't in the business, meanwhile he works for Tony Khan who is just a wrestling fan with money behind him who has proven that theory wrong. Not to mention guys like Vince McMahon, Jim Cornette, Eric Bischoff, Mike Tenay, Paul Heyman, Triple H, and even Jim Ross himself all started off as wrestling fans who got into the business and found massive success. To say "you don't know wrestling because you aren't in the business" is a pretty ignorant statement considering some of the greatest minds in the history of the business started off as guys who grew up just being wrestling fans.
@@Nick-7 If the internet had existed in the 1970's and 80's, you can bet your ass Paul Heyman, Tony Khan, and Jim Cornette would have been just as much a part of the internet drivel as the next guy. Don't pretend that there's anything special about guys like JR just because he's made a career for himself. Wrestling isn't rocket science, no matter how many times these inside guys try to convince us it is. Tony Khan is nothing more than a wrestling mark with a limitless bank account. Give you or I that exact same budget and it's not unrealistic to assume we could do everything he has done since 2017. Granted I probably wouldn't be filling my roster to the brim with NXT rejects everytime there's a release, but besides that, what has he really done that was a true stroke of genius that you couldn't have thought up yourself? I'm not saying all of those guys I named are the average Joe, obviously Vince, Eric, and Heyman are geniuses in their own ways. It doesn't change the fact that you don't have to be Vince McMahon to write a good wrestling story though. Some of the greatest minds in the business are just wrestling fans who got lucky and found success during a lucrative time in the industry. Being a good story teller isn't some special ability that the chosen few in the business possess. JR is known for his commentary, and if he had never picked up a headset then we wouldn't even be talking about his booking. What's that tell you? This show would be called the King's Court with Jerry Lawler instead and you'd be hearing him belittle fans because he used to book as well. 🙄
JR: That was a really stupid question Mike top guy. Paul: The next question is from Puss Bucket. That face JR made is the face you make, when you question every decision you have ever made. 😂🤣😂
As much I don't believe this but I have heard it before a lot and even was told this by a wrestler that was in the locker room at the time this incident happened but for all you conspiracy theorists out there supposedly it was an AOP(Accidentally On Purpose) because there were a group of guys in the locker room that didn't like the push Austin was getting and supposedly 4 or 5 had gotten together and were each going to do something like what happened to stop Austin's momentum and "save the business" as they saw it. So if you believe it then Owen did on purpose but it didn't stop Austin. Personally i don't believe it for many many different reasons but it is something I have heard numerous times even from an ex WWF wrestler who was in the locker room but like I said I personally do not believe that's what's happened. I think it was just a lack of communication 🤷♂️
Sounds like horseshit. Gates were on the up because of Austin's popularity and wrestlers like making money. Nobody was hurting Steve Austin on purpose in 1997.
Seriously. I think losing too much does hurt the perception of a wrestler. Neither Austin or Michaels needed to to a job at KOTR 97, that was the right finish.

Whatever your point was, December 1995 to Mania 13, if we're being cynicial, because thats when JR says they knew it was time to plan for Austin as top guy 100%, is not even 1.5 years from signing in December 1995, much less 2 years. Should I buy you a calendar, "genius?" Or do you not know the difference between 16 months and 24 months? Like I said, thats being cynical, as they were already selling house show tickets with Austin in the main event in late 96 against Bret and against Shawn. So not even one year before they started making dollar off Steve Austin main events.

You are comparing career driven motivated people to internet drivel,
angsty Twitter followers and UA-cam commenters.....hmmm..

They just did a Sting episode together last week.
