David was the youngest performer ever to headline at Rainbow and Stars in NYC, and he was touted as making the biggest splash in New York since Barbra Streisand. He has done a lot of musical theatre, but has also had success in cabaret, jazz and swing.
He certainly has done Broadway. Jimmy Barnes (Dad) is so proud of him.❤
Jimmy was only 16 or 17 when David was born and with every year that goes by, he looks more and more like his Dad.🎼❤️🇦🇺❤️🇺🇸🕺🏻💃🎸☘️
He looks very much like his Dad as he grows older! 😊🙏❤️
This is a difficult song to sing and to do justice too.David did just that! I appreciate they way you break down the singers voice, skill etc and then put it all back again. Love your work Nick! Visit us in Australia soon.
David loves the stage and has performed in many musicals in Australia
David had a career in the US before he came back to Australia and I believe he sang the Great American Songbook-type songs. He is certainly a top shelf singer in his own right.
David was born and raised in South Australia. His career started here in Australia. He did travel to the USA and perform for a few years in musicals but he has been back here for over 20 years.
@@TheBrownlj yep, knew all that
The David and Jimmy story is a fascinating one. David is a remarkable singer in his own right. Great reaction and break down of his performance.
That whole family can sing absolutely anything, they could make a Masterpiece out of the Phone Book.
This is just him singing in yet another way that is extremely rarely used today. I don't think Jimmy bothers with this type of singing.
Definately from his on stage singing in his past.
Just goes to show just how talented that whole family is.
He has such a childish joker personality and we love him for it, but when that man gets deadly serious he puts every fibre of his being into his work and changes his mindset like a switch.
David began working professionally in Australia in 1993, after extensive training in youth theatre. He attracted attention in his role in the hit Australian play Relative Merits in Sydney, and won a MO Award in 1995 for Best Musical Performerof the Year for his role in Alex Harding's musical Only Heaven Knows. In 1997 he performed in the Tony Award winning Love! Valor! Compassion! in New York; he appeared in Les Miserables as Markus, winning another MO Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical and New York Backstage Bistro Award as Outstanding Vocalist of the Year. He has also performed in South Pacific, Guys and Dolls and Hey, Mr. Producer!, and provided the singing voice for the character Joseph in DreamWorks' animated film Joseph: King of Dreams.
He recorded an album called "On Broadway" in 2010.
Great one Dominick! I’ve been wanting to show you what David’s capable of for a while now, I knew you’d be blown away by this! I’ll send him the link hopefully he’ll check it out! Love ya 😉 ❤️
Yeah, but she loves me too, Dom! And Farnsey...and Barnsey...and Warlow...and Olivia Neutron Bomb...
@@mrmockatoo6786 I acknowledge Warlow and Olivia are extremely talented but I can’t say I love either of them that much 😉 my number one will always be Elton. Jimmy is a very close second!
His voice live is amazing. In 1998 I saw him perform in the Australian production of Les Miserables playing Marius at The Capitol Theatre in Sydney. It was a sensational performance!! He received a well deserved standing ovation. Made me cry like a baby!
He's performed in New York and in Australia in musicals - including Les Miserables which this song is from, and Sunset Boulevard.
David also sang cabaret in New York and has done musical theatre. He hasn't tried to copy Jimmy or ride on his coattails. He has made it with his own style. Great reaction.💕
I've listened to him since he first appeared, and have always enjoyed him, but I'd never noticed things about his voice that you have pointed out. Great break down. Thank you.
I have David's Swing hits cd. He does a wonderful Mack The Knife & Beyond The Sea plus so many more ♥️♥️
Gorgeous David - ❤
Don't play with me, that was stunning!! 😥😍
Nick - I believe he was trained in New York so you're spot on the money!
His swing classics cd is brilliant.
He is right up there. Hugh Jackman did Les miserables the movie but David has a superb voice & sings many genres.
His main thing is musical theatre
Stunning David your Dad must be so Happy for you ❤️
Before you started...I was thinking ...you're in for a good surprise.
Oh isn't he beautiful!🤗🤗🤗❤️🌏🪐🍀🌕🙏🇦🇺🌺👣🦋🦉🏡🌴❤️
David actually spent years on broardway amazing talent, and btw he can sound exactly like his dad if he wants to, used to see him when he was first starting all the time
I’ve always loved his version of this song.
He was GREAT!! This is the first time I've heard him!! Awesome 🔥❤️
Your right two completely different singers tonally yet there’s just the hint of jimmy crust to certain notes that you go oh that’s like Jim interesting is I feel Mahalia and David share certain qualities too I love the nuance in singing families 🙂
I’ve seen David many times on stage. In musicals and in concert. I’m a huge fan. Believe me, when he wants to, he can sound just like his father. He has taken off his father perfectly in some of his concerts.
He’d wanna give you Broadway, doing one of the all time classic tenor torch songs of musical theatre 😉 David has had a long. career in theatre and jazz, which you hear in spades here.
That is the David I have always loved. He is Australian.
From my favorite musical and id forgotten he did this on Hey Hey so it was so refreshing to hear David do it.
this is from Les Mis, this is
what he does
🗣Beautiful Song 🎙🎵 Dr_Kap ❗✌
Imagine John F singing this
Oh yeah, John would absolutely slay this.
He sang so hard his face turned into Jimmy's a few times there XD
Perfection!
My favourite song he's done is _Mack The Knife_ and it's also my favourite version of that song. Also, love his rendition of _Just A Gigolo._
This is off his Broadway Album "david campbell on broadway"
I’ve love to hear him
sing Phantom
Brilliant
David only recently did a stage musical of American in Paris
His dad is Australian suicide royalty who casts the longest shadow but David still manages to shine.
Les Mis is my favourite Broadway production and it takes a special tenor to pull this song off... Not sure David did it but this was good.
How about Normie Rowe? I absolutely love him singing this in Les Mis.
Mate, it’s not a broadway show in Australia without David Campbell, haha.
This is what he started as before he even knew Jimmy was his dad
Yes David is very different to his dad. He is a caberat and Broadway singer, a jazz/crooner. Occasionally he has a note that sounds like his dad but really he is nothing like him. Yes he has appeared in musicals.
Main thing he does is musical theater
He does mr bojangles as well.
Mate , do yourself a favour, checkout the band 1927 - compulsory hero , they have many more great songs , but definitely a fave of mine
David didn't know that Jimmy was his dad until he was an adult, he spent quite a bit of time in the US with a Cabaret show (I think it was a one man show), once he came home to Australia he has done a lot of Musical theatre here as well as his Cabaret style, He can get the gravel of his dad in his voice but it's not sustainable for him it really ruins his voice for a while after doing it
I believe he found out Jimmy was his dad when he was 10 years old
@@Dr_KAP ok, I grew up hearing that he didn't know until way later but that doesn't mean it was the media that found out later
@@kenpassfield11 that’s ok no probs!! Yes apparently David has said that finding out about his mother was a much bigger deal than finding out about his father. Regardless, I’m just happy they’re all so close today :)
And before that he found out that Jimmy was his father, he knew Jimmy as a family freind. He was told his mother was his sister. Jimmy has been in his life forever one way or another.
Not Colm W but fu$%kin good.
Certainly doesn't sound like his father Jimmy Barnes 😂
Watch Normie Rowe's version of this.... just as remarkable
David in your top 6 mate? I know your top 5 is unshakeable
Nah not top 6 but he's phenomenal tho
Great talent. You've lost that Loving Feeling with Jimmy and David is a fabulous cover where David channels Jimmy a little.
Oh it’s took me 4 1/2 minutes to realize this is Jimmy Barnes his son. Ha ha. I actually think I would prefer Jimmy singing this song. I didn’t like the way David started off with such a strident, bright tone. Something rounder and softer is what I’m used to, But I know I’m probably nitpicking. He can obviously sing.
Oh but he ended the song properly, the right tone and register and vibrato. I love it!
David loves a good Cabaret, been in many musicals. I like that he isn't like Jimmy as there can only be one Jimmy. I'm not a fan of David to be fair, don't like his opinions much at all but he can be a funny bloke at times.. I dont dislike the bloke, just dont agree with him a lot..
Sorry, it's not that good, Look up Simon Gleeson
