    Decided to review a Studio Display with VESA stand. Previous experience with iMac with VESA was quite a success, so I got curious how will it be with the Studio Display. Did a lot of measurements and tests, so hope you’ll enjoy it!

    99.9% of reviews on this monitor are variations of "wow, these speakers are great, the design is sleek, the camera is not the best, and its really bright" - this is the best review I've seen on this. Great job!

    9:00 Dude! This is the smartest way I've seen to compare things.
    Humans have horrible memories. So putting things side by side and INSTANTLY switching to each as your talking was a brilliant move for this review. So many other reviewers do some cutaway transition "Now let's listen to the mics from the studio display" and in that 3 second clip, your human ear has already lost reference to the original audio.
    So so smart!
    And the 3-up video feeds was equally perfect. Most reviewers speed through these tests. This gives the viewer (aka: me) very little time to get acclimated to what I'm seeing and hearing. You're smart for being patient, and trusting that the viewer knows how to fast forward or use time stamps.
    Immediate subscribe!

    Hi . I Really like your presentation and your edits. Can we expect a video of you studio tour and how you do edit and shoot videos. In the video at 5:20, when you show the gap b/w wall and monitor, How did you shoot the shot?. It's really amaging.

    • @GeeksTable
      @GeeksTable  Рік тому

      Hi, thanks! My flat is my studio, so every time I shoot something, I just move the stuff around and prepare the scene :) That shot was simply done by putting the table with the display as close to the wall as possible and then by placing a key light on the table, so it would highlight the gap.

    How good is the image quality when connecting a PS4 Pro to the display? Does the resolution stay at 4K or is it upscaled to the display's native 5K resolution? Thanks for presenting this possibility since I hadn't really been able to find an answer as to whether you could connect a console to the Studio Display by hardware and thought Remote Play would remain the only option.

    • @GeeksTable
      @GeeksTable  Рік тому

      I have a PS4 slim. The quality is fine to me, but yeah it’s always upscaling to 5k. So it you output a game from 4k to 5k, it’s fine. If it’s something like FullHD, then you’ll deal with PS4 upscaling to 4K and then display upscaling to 5K. I haven’t tested but might be a bit uncomfy.

    Excellent review! I've had a refurbished Studio Display ($1359) for a week connected with a 15" MacBook Air and I really love how it completes my overall desk setup and looks super clean too! Sick of burnt out USB-C hubs, excess wiring, stuff just deciding not to play nice with each other, external webcam and most definitely the wakeup delay w/ non-Apple displays! Finally said "screw it" and ordered one lol. All in all, yes it's not a cheap monitor but god damned if it does look and sound amazing and "it just works (tm)"! Super excited that it also just went on sale at Amazon for $1349 brand new too, so will swapping my refurb out for the brand new one (though never had any issues with Apple Refurbished products) as I can also get my 5% Amazon cash back. That makes this guy $1281.55 (No tax in NH - Live Free or Die lol) all in and I am absolutely content! Hoping to keep this display going for a very looooong time to use with the ever-rotating slate of MacBooks that come and go far more frequently as the upgrade bug comes haha. Also bought the $49.99/year AppleCare+ to ensure I don't have to cough up such a crazy amount of money again in the foreseeable future to get one of these. I've read online that AppleCare+ can potentially be used to cover the labor portion of the cost to have an Apple Store swap out your stand/VESA mount in the future should your needs change. Fortunately the base model tilt only stand suits my needs just fine for my desk setup!

Just seems to have a lot of noise and very slow automatic lighting adjustment.

      You can switch but it’s not cheap. Just did it at the Apple Store in Portland, Oregon. It’s $99 in labor plus the cost of the stand option you choose. Converted from Tilt Stand to VESA and the total was $218 ($99 in labor + $119). Took about a week. They ordered a backup new monitor in case in broke during the process. Definitely think VESA is the best option.

    The best review for Studio Display. I get the one with Visa mount. I would miss the apple logo on the back and signature stand and overall design, but the OG standard tilt stand doesn't function for me. Thanks for the nice review.. Cheers 🥂

    Can you please tell me if your Studio Display connected to a MBP will auto rortate display when installed with VESA adaptor? Just got my fingers burnt wen I bought a 24" iMac and found out display autorotate WILL NOT WORK. Thanks in advance.

    • @GeeksTable
      @GeeksTable  Рік тому

      Yes, the Studio Display rotates automatically. Unfortunately with the 24" iMac you have to switch the modes manually.

      @@GeeksTable I took my 16” MBP to the Mac dealership and connected it to a Studio Display but the image on the SD did not rotate when I rotated the SD. I tried rotating the display in both directions (CW & CCW) but to no avail. Have you any comments?

      @@roderickmclean9927 Can't say for sure. Could be a different mirroring mode, old firmware on SD, intel cpu on the mac, some other setting... For me it worked out of the box, so unfortunately can't help but suggest to call Apple Tech Support if it's present in your country.

      @@GeeksTable thank you very much for your help. Sadly no tech here in Southern Philippines. My Intel MBP is listed as compatible but as you have suggested it may not enjoy full functionality. Thanks a bunch Tim Cook. So I guess it may be time for an LG Ultrafine. Thanks again for you support.

    I am very sad that it doesnt support daisy chain and I would need to spend another 400€ on a compatible 5k dock for Dual Monitor setup

      Yeah, that’s a bummer. But there are cheaper Thunderbolt docks out there to support it (OWC and Caldigit have those for ~200-250€).

    The way this VESA mount option designed makes it look more like an afterthought. This display beats all the records on a number of idiotic design choices in a single product.

    Disagree about comparing it to LG displays. I've owned LG displays and colors can never match up to the studio display and more importantly, it's so prone to screen burn in and ghosting.

  • @1stRanger

    4K display is a bad choice for comparison since macOS can't really work properly with displays with PPI other than 110/220, which none of 4K 27" have.
