  • In the fifth video of the trip to Falmouth I returned to a mark I had found on my previous trip where I’d caught Bull Huss. Once again the mark came up trumps and the Bull Huss came to play. The first was a rather fine specimen that I was very pleased with. As always they were all returned to swim away strongly.
We enjoyed a pasty lunch aboard Reel Time anchored in St Mawes harbour (you have to have a pasty here and it appears they are Dee's favourite too). I headed back out to catch a couple of chunky Mackerel for tea and to replenish the bait bucket. There didn't appear to be any large shoals of Mackerel around, just the odd one or two here and there.
On the way back to Mylor marina I heard a Pan Pan call on the VHF. A boat had experience engine failure near Black Rock - close to my location. I went over to offer help and provide a tow back to his mooring. The vessel was a good bit bigger and heavier than Reel Time but we managed a successful tow. Duty done, I returned home for tea and a beer whilst planning to return to my mark for more Bull Huss the following day.
Hope you enjoy the video, add any comments or questions below.
Tight lines from me and a tail wag from Dee.

Wow on the Pan Pan Call big respect !! Nice Bull Huss that my next species that I want to catch, last year was bream and caught loads of them. Great video as always, you’re a top man.

Thanks, make sure you have a wire trace or very heavy mono for the Huss or the will bite the hook off. Good luck targeting them this year.
Next time I tow another boat I'll use a bridle to spread the load between both rear cleats and a much longer rope to absorb the 'snatch' between the boats.

Hi Scott, thanks for the comments. I’m surprised just how strong the Bull Huss can be. Also, mind those teeth 😁. Helping another boat is part of that unwritten code of the sea. I was glad to help the Sophie B. 👍

FINE BUSINESS! Do you have McEwans in Scotland or do you ship it all to Canada??? My Favorite! CHEERS from Canada!

Yes, we've got McEwans here, I have to be careful here, but as an Englishman I think it's best to travel south across the border for a proper pint.
