- My DIY tiny tube amp project, with a 12AU7 (ECC82) tube/valve based preamp, an LM386N-3 based power amp, wrapped in aluminum and tweed. Schematics are shown in the video.

Ahh, some electronics works, coffee and glue fumes. Right back to the 70's. Very nice work! Sounds great for some studio/bedroom noodling.
This video is so nicely put together as well! Brilliant, it's people like you who make the future a brighter place for all of us. Keep it up! :)
Now let’s see you get a reverb tank in there:-)
No demo of the final product?
Congratulations! Very good your project. Could you share the parts list and the circuit?
My God! I could definitely buy this little thing.
Great project and video, thank you!
And you have the cleanest desk I've ever seen! 👍👍👍
just curious why anyone would use an lm386 when they could use a tda7052a . i mean if you are going to do it right ...
Hey i want to build my first tube amp and ur s look really nice!!! is their any
possibility to get a PCB or maybe the eagle Files ? Greetz
The tone is not exciting, but the amp looks great! Lovely design! And great video too!
This is awesome man - I came here sampling sounds of the LM386, looking to build a mini amplifier to partner my 1x5 cab without having to wrap my head and wallet around hefty transformers for a full tube power amp... This seems like such a nice compromise at this sort of scale. Thank you for the inspiration.
Hi, I have spare 6z4 tube (I couldn’t buy only one, they sell them in pairs) can I build a single tube amp with that tube, it’s a rectifier. I just started to learn about tube circuits.
As a guitar playing hearing aid repair man I gotta say SWEET !
I don’t have any electronic skills, do you sell these mini amps
I bet that 12AU7 pre-amp would sound nice with some germaniums on the power side.
Would totally buy one of these
Do you make a tube pedal that i can use infront of a quilter tone block to add some tube distortion
Was that part with the fuzz Give Me Your Love by MSG?
Nice little practice amp! Could use other ic for more power and higher voltage, which I'm sure would help out on tube plate. Plenty of TDA... chip amps out there that operate at like 36 volts or so. Good tone, but higher voltage might make that 12au7 "sing". Or maybe a 12ax7?.
12AY7 maybe. I've done 12AX7 at 48v and it's still hard to get sounding good.
@@theknifesedge57 if you have 36 vac you can multiply the voltage for plate current. I don't know how much is too much for most hobbyist. If you only have 12 or 24 volts ac a voltage multiplier would be needed, 36 you would only need to double the voltage. At work we have 22 vac at one amp I may try a voltage multiplier in my spare time after work hours. I think I could make these tube amps sing. Output transformers is another obstacle. You don't want plate voltage going through your headphones.
Love it! Great looking and sounding little amp.
Where did you get the handle from?
Can you remember the title of the auction for the chassis? I would love to buy one.
Cheers
Pedro
I would love someone to build me one of those. How much did you spend on making it as in parts?
Great work! I think you should call this beauty the "Lil' Tweedy Bird" 😬🐤, or just "Tweedy" for short.
Ahh dude, you should try it with a lm380, just toss a little low pass filter on the output or use an output trafo.
Very enjoyable to watch. Wish I could play it.
A thing of beauty, I design print and assemble multirotors, but I can't do that. Have a pint sir!
If you decide to sell these in kit form, please let me know
If you’re up for the challenge again, I’d buy one!
Do you make still make the tiny tweed
Waiting for a test !!
Was super impressed with the rippin' tone you were getting out of that even when it was just breadboarded. Loved it! - Matt Mettler in Denver CO
bazz fuss sounds great
Very nice build
I want a tube amp for my Blues Harmonica
GREAT JOB
This is Art....Nice!
Could you make one and ship to London ? Tell me how much 😉
Nice job!
I love it one suggestion go with smaller coupling caps between the stages that should tighten up the bass and make it sound a little little balls here I did not say balls here hahaha
Will you sell it?
fender bronco i have, i juuuuust got done porting the real plate, cut a hole 3×5' hole and its clean now, gna drop a grommes little jewel amp in the cab. thought it was funny u have the bronco on the table.
Wow, nice, and that shiny little transformer really cute!
Pretty cool
Tiny Tweety
is this an amplifier or is this a preamp
Texas Longhorns make it even better!
some SRV and then right on over to blink 182!! good stuff
Is your oshpark site still up?
Way Cool!
Bravo!
But now, a Nice Travel Cab 🤔 8in I guess. But a 12in Cab box would Store the Amp Head. Maybe an OD/FootSwitch pedal too
I like the idea, might build something similar myself. One question though... did you really think it was necessary to make a PCB for such simple circuits I mean come on man you could have done turret or point-to-point. I've made some tiny pcbs for IC chips but I wouldn't do the whole thing PCP just because I'm using an IC. All that aside great project and I just subscribed.
So no power tube? How did you get any volume?
It's a solid state power stage using an LM386 chip, so no output transformer needed also. Two AU7 valve pre-amp gain stages. The info is on the video!
err... no sound demo?
What is the diference of a tube bass amp and a guitar amp.
Marty Fowler Bass Amos usually have more watts.
Basically no difference except maybe more power as john gonzalez says. The difference is in the speakers :))
Murat Taner I’m going to have to look into this more there has to be more to it than just using bass speakers
@@mowler8042,
Different value coupling capacitors that block higher frequencies and pass lower frequencies between the various amp stages.
More power? No, not really. Speakers? Those with better bass response.
I asked the very same question to the high end amp builder Değer Terem years ago and this is the answer he gave me :)) For the sound and the looks of his amps: U-Tube : To Ornette's 85th birthday (Can Alparslan ) :))
I want.
Would have been nice to hear the thing
Jeffrey Burkart right? Everyone’s saying how great it is. I’d like to hear it before saying it’s great. Waste of time.
Right?!!! "Great!" How do we know?
Ya'll heard it before he put it in the chassis!
Buen dia 👍
