for english class i have to recite my favorite poem. This is my favorite poem. Somehow, i dont think that my english teacher will approve of this. Why do people shy away from controversy? We dont like someone trying to shake things up. she is revolutionary. i think im in love.
First never call me sweetheart as that is vastly condescending. Second I never said and neither did Andrea that men are not raped this poem addresses the act of men raping females. If your logic is to be followed everything that does NOT address a certain issue is somehow disagreeing with it. This seems illogical to me on many levels. Also bringing her sexuality into your argument only makes you sound further misogynist. You disliking her art is subjective, hating on her sexuality is disgusting.
sorry love, it's only a term of endearment. Albeit, it does have certain connotations surrounding sexism. But i like to think it as a nod to the past. No harm, it's only words after all i mean what kind of world is it when people are offended by simple noises...anyway the whole crux of this poem is generally finger pointing particularly the last line, In addition her other work supports this view i might add. I never said i hated her sexuality, i was merely mugging it off. i love lesbians. x
How is this biased and whitewashed? I am curious what your problems are with someone standing up for women who have been assaulted. And Andrea is not speaking from experience it seems as if she is saying someone she loves has been assaulted so the only bias she could have is from being a woman. So if you think a woman being able to stand up for other women's rights to their bodily autonomy and integrity is biased I just wasted a lot of fucking words on you.
Every time I her her speak I have to fight the urge to cry a little because she's so damn good at touching people's hearts.
I love her she is one of the best poets ever. she inspired me to write poetry.
this poem honestly moved me more than any other poem ever has
Thank you Andrea.
I don't think I've ever cried this hard over poetry. It's beautifully painful and painfully beautiful. Real words of wisdom right there.
This is so perfect. This woman is wonderful.
You're so wonderful. I actually can't stop watching your poems. Please keep up the incredible work!
This is very powerful.

Oh, wow.
When I watch this it feels like she's stolen my deepest secret and made it into a song. It hurts in a good way and leaves me feeling alive again.
Oh my God
WOW!!!!
I loved the ending n she's right. what are going to teach your son? how are you going to make sure that it doesn't happen again?
Do it anyway Abbie. Stepping away from controversy like this, is what perpetuates the idea that it is ok. Teacher said to recite a poem. Do IT!
zoey
