- FULL Timelapse Restoring trashed 1973 Yamaha Rd350. There is a reason they stopped making them. The power and lightweight handling made them dangerous and an absolute riot to ride! This project was something I wanted to tackle after hearing only great things about the bikes. A time machine to the past...

Enjoy this timelapse! I also announce new merch, Race a sports bike and take this thing to the mountains!
For some even faster 2 stroke action get you hands on an old Kawasaki Triple H2 The Widow maker My buddy has a drag one and it does 8sec in the 1/4. FBG motor. I agree you did a Helluva nice job on the old bike young man. Keep digging you're going places.
You nailed the cafe racer look. Very cool project! 👍
Hit me up I’m up in the mountains outside of Asheville can show you the roads really thou it’s the best riding! Ride all the time. Keep that talent my guy God bless
You should build a build up a quad next
CORRECTION!!!! In 1970, it was still called the R5 350, NOT the RD 350! The RD came out in 1973, and was built until 1976, when the RD 400 came out......
Damn, kid. That's an epic build. You made a 1970's 2 stroke 500% safer than it was stock. And yet it's still dangerous. Mad respect.
Anyone else see the talent that he has at his age been watching for years and always impressed by what he creates and his vision
Yep, me too, he has it...
I had an RD350 in the early 70's. It was both exhilarating and terrifying, and it nearly killed me on more than one occasion. It's hard to impress on someone how much performance it had. You can really enjoy that bike, but treat it with respect. Love your builds and keep up the good work!!!
Yeah, here in India people used to call it Rapid Death 350.. 😁😁
I got one and its gonna be my starter bike
Klasse werk.
Had one too, a 1973. Thing was scary quick but a blast to ride. Not to mention I had DG heads, pipes and ported jugs on it. stoplight to stoplight not much could touch it.
Back then I was seventeen and the prospect of all that speed on tap was very very attractive, but I hated the smell of two-stroke (still do) ...probably just as well, as I am alive to watch this video, and fit enough to ride a push-bike up steep hills.
Cracking stuff! Sounds as crisp as a packet! Lovely work. Miss my old 350B but as I replaced it with an RG500 30 years ago, I can manage! Long live two strokes indeed!!!
Mine was a brand new RD350b as well, "blue", can always rember the headlight used to shake side to side when loading it up at powerband. The footpeg brackets were half worn threw by the time I sold it. Great memories except for the few broken bones.
@@Paulman50 Great stuff. Blue’s cool. Mine was purple. I replaced the headlight with a Cibié Oscar! Was great at night.
Whenever I’m at a bike function and I see an RD I always have to stop and look, great job 👍🏻
Thanks! 👍
Man!!! That brings me back...I had many RDs and Kawi Triples...and I lived! Awesome series.
I had R5 350 Yamaha early seventies. Fairly fast at that era. Great video, thanks!
I did a full restore on a 1975 RD-350B about a 15 years ago. It took me a couple of years to finish it. The one missing piece was the seat. I had a contact at the local Yamaha dealership who bored my cylinders and he was able to order a stock seat from the factory. There were only 2 left and I got one of them. When it arrived, the box was covered in dust and even after opening the box, I couldn't believe the amount of dust inside too. That's what happens after 30 years in the factory, I guess? When it was finished, the bike was amazing. I got pulled over by a group of Hell's Angels riding through a canyon on the way to the beach. I thought these guys were going to kick my ass. The lead guy go toff of his hog an walked over to me and said "Wow!, check this out. My first bike was one of these." Showing his other buddies. Then he congratulated me on the restore and they took off. Whew!
Being waiting on this
I'm always amazed how you're able to break it all down and rebuild it to suit your taste.👏
Nicely done! I bet that thing pulls like a freight train. Long live two strokes!
無茶苦茶カッコイイ👍YAMAHA大切に❗️
wishing your success from Japan🇯🇵
I rode an RD400 once. Once. I think I may remember laughing maniacally the whole time, while also soiling my drawers. The sound of this one running down the road brought back some fun and terrifying memories of being bulletproof. Thanks.
Bought a 1973 RD250 YDS7 in 1981 , awesome machine , thanks for rekindling the memories 👍
Incredible, thank you. Brings back a bunch of good memories from my younger days, my buddy had a RD 350 and I had the 125cc. The DT 360 was my all time favourite.
So satisfying watching all your hard work. Your skills only get better. Thanks
That was my first bike! What a screamer. 👍👍💗
All I can say is Wing-ding-ding-ding............. a sound like no other.😃
Went through the same process with my Suzuki sb200, love seeing these old 2 strokes brought back to life
I saw a lot of great engineering and hand fabrication. You did an amazing job with the tools you have. I had an R5 350 back in the 70s. It was a blast back then and I'm sure this one is now. Seeing you do the rebuild and riding it at the end brought back a lot of good memories. Keep the shiny side up!
Yeah its not an RD its a R5
Making me miss my banshee and the smell of Yamalube R! Sounds great 👍
These RD350s were really fast. I have seen the race 350s beat 600s and 850s many times. Great restoration and fabrication. Congratulations!
It's not my taste, but I can appreciate it, great work, and thanks for sharing.
OHHH He'll Yeah That Turned Out Great & Sounds Strong & Amazing U Kiked Assss On This One Bro💯💪🏽💪🏽❤👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽😎👊🏽🗯🗯💥
you need to send this in to Iron Horse Magazine or Cycle Source they show off home builds in every issue. I think this scoot is more than deserving.
Dude!! Totally awesome. Your builds are always dope, and your videos are reaching new heights. Full Send
Fantastic!!! Had one long time ago but this conversion is too much. Bravo what a job!!!! Long live 2 strokes.
Beautiful work Vasily! You're builds get better and better - absolutely love this RD350! I'm a big Yamaha fan (my daily is an FJR1300, all my audio equipment is studio Yamaha, raced a YZ80, YZ125, YZ426F) and have always loved that RD350!!
Keep up the great work! Thank you so much for all the time you spend to share these videos, I know it takes a lot of work and we all appreciate it!!!
haha thank you!
Yamaha fjr is a great bike, i rode one last week they are nice to ride
Great build, I had a 1973 RD350 one time that I had to bring back to life from the dead. Really fun when it got on the pipe.
Thx for posting... I've owned 2 of these over the years... :)
This is a Yamaha R5 piston-ported engine, not a RD350 as some might think. The RDs came later.
But he changed the crankshaft, used RD (Banshee) pistons and cylinders with reed-valves and technically, changed it to an RD engine !
Great job !
While I am not a subscriber to the styling...........man that ride in the end brought goosebumps ! Thankfully, no deer ran across the road !
As a 67-year-old, I still long for the two-stroke era. We used to eat the Honda guys RAW !!
Trinidad & Tobago.
West Indies.
If motorcycle restoration videos were coke, this right here would be pure uncut Colombian snow. Great quality extract 👌
Nice
Great vid man!!! My dad has a mint 1972 rd 350 orange with black stripes. It is truly amazing to see a builder like you totally bring back a bike like this to life! Banshee power baby!
1972 was an R5C not RD350..... no reed valves
I had a 1971 R5 350 back in 1973. Wheelies all day long. When you got it on the pipe on an open road it was a terror.
You need some hats with Vasily Builds on them. I would buy one.
I'll get that fixed!
You know your business. I've owned a couple of those bikes but your build is much better than stock.
my man got his weld and literally fortified everything he could. Nice job.
I don't really like the style of seat you went for, but we obviously have different taste and for what you were going for, it's fucking beautiful, I would only get the seat down just a little bit to make it align with the tank, that's the one single detail, other than that, amazing bike man.
Thank you!
Great job dude but breaks my heart to see a classic destroyed. Each to his own.
SHOULD ALWAYS KEEP THEM STANDARD! IF YOU CAN, NICE JOB BUT SACRALIDGE TO ME PERSONALY.
@@stormytempest6521 - thank you, I thought I was alone on how I looked at it.
"Art in motion"👍
Nice job, man! 2 strokes never die! Just a tip for your alloy welding : don't cut the parts with the grinder, use a saw. Those discs pollute the weldingby leaving particles inside. Tig doesn't like it.
You 'll improve drastically your welding. Try that and let me know. For me, that was from middle age to total recall ;). Thanks for your video!
great job looks fun
Awesome Work on your Rebuild
the most arm wrenching bike I ever owned, mine had skimmed head, carbs from a Suzuki GT380 +K&N's, empty microns, high compression pistons, balanced and lightened crank, race CD kit, lightened flywheel, it was converted to mono shock with an alloy RD250LC swing arm, Norton Manx tank, everything that didn't make it go or stop was removed, it was like lightening, I lived many didn't, the "widow maker" it got nicknamed here in the UK,
Really beautiful bike and build. You certainly know your stuff. As mentioned these bikes were a real giant slayer in the 1970s and it's a such a treat to hear that sound again. 2 stroke heaven revisited.😁👍
Wow, that is stunning! Had a modified RD 350 in the early 70’s. Like yours it absolutely screamed!!
AWSOME build, and crazy talent!💥💥👍👍
Simply Beautiful ! Having the Will power to recreate this machine that makes wonderful memories!
Ahhhh 2 strokes you can't beat um. Lovely sound
Nice job man, I've watched ya turn from a novice to a pretty good fabricator. Keep up the good work man!
Man that thing must be so fun to ride and it sounds nasty!!
I love 2 strokes I really wish they still passed test.. You showed some skill restoring the bike, I liked them restored but with left with patina, not overly keen on the seat though...thanks for the video.
They were quick alright. I remember riding a friends RD350 for the first time in the very early 1970's and scarring the life out of myself. The bike I rode at that time was a Yamaha RT1B trail bike, and the RD350 was a whole new ball game. I found myself carrying far too much speed into corners and then really struggling to get around them. I quickly learned to treat that bike much differently to my RT1B in corners or i wasn't going to live much longer
What's remarkable about this (besides everything) is the level of mods to the frame, shocks and a ton of other aspects .. such a young builder too, well done sir !!
Hitting the powerband on the RD 350 was a blast.
I have to give u props for fabricating everything that you do you doing exactly what I want to do just building random stuff and doing all the fabrication and everything myself!!
Αγοράστε πολλά T-Shirts από τον φίλο μας Βασίλη!
Two friends of mine had those. Fantastic bikes!
Darn good work Vasily. It's a beast!
Super Cool, Love man. I had 73 rd350 one back in the early 90"s when I was young. Absolutely a fun and Insane bike to ride, rode the hell out of it all over California. Great Video, Thanks for the memories, wish I still had her.
That bike came out perfect! Love the pipes and the patina in the gas tank
Man you gotta be happy with this build it's so clean 🙌 👌
Also had a '73... I put a drag handlebars, hollowed out the mufflers and turned the shift lever around 180. so it was easier to shift with my heel while doing wheelies! Surprised I didn't kill myself on that beast!! I've owned many bikes, but the RD holds a special place in my heart. Nice resto-Mod
Wauw - the work you put into this. I remember when you built the bmx with an engine - man you have progressed👍🏻👌🏻
Dude's a genius 😎👍
You are a true craftsman sir!
great job young man
Following u from 3 years…Love from Pakistan❤️
👏🙏
@@VasilyBuilds why bro following means watching ur bulid😍
wow absolutely amazing work. i am a long time rd350 lover and big kaplan cycles follower. you earned my subscription for sure. sick build . blessings....
Great work, great project, respect.👍👍👍
Amazing platform(RD350) meets Amazing skill set/Vision! Had a couple RD350’s back in 90ish. Wicked little monsters!
So cool. I found a 1971 350R5 which was the RDs predecessor. Such cool old 2 strokes. Waay fun to ride. I caféd mine as well
Back in the day I owned a Yamaha 350 R5F, it was a beautiful machine, quite quick and gave me no problems at all. I consider that a very good buy and was proud to own one. (Australia)
From "Garbage" to "Greatness" thanks to Good Ole Vasily! I'de TRULY LOVE TO SEE this channel hit 1Million subs one day. I KNOW it can happen! Your gonna look back on this one day and share it with your kids and grandkids and make them proud. Just never give up and keep giving God The Glory! Great video! My motto is "I CAN NOT BE DEFEATED! AND I WILL NOT QUIT! I can do ALL Things through Christ Who strengthens me! As Always, May God Bless you and yours!
Thank you for the kind words!
@@VasilyBuilds My Pleasure! I truly admire what you are doing and at age 61, I have lived my life without God in it and at 28 received Christ as my Savior. I was in my 40's before He was Lord over my life and it has been nothing but better for it. Matthew 6:33 tells us "Seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness and everything else will be given to you as well. It is foundational to the Christian life and I wish I had both known it and practiced it much sooner. Keep up the great work! Again, And As Always, May God Bless you and yours!
Very nice resto, it looks stunning, and yeah they're definitely not for beginners! A friend of mine bought the Yamaha RD350 YPVS back in 1984 - it was a maniac machine, that ended up killing him. I rode it a couple of times and I told him it would end up killing him, but unfortunately he didn't listen, and it did exactly that.
Beautiful machine. Well done. Had a 250. Like bringing back an old love.
Looks and sounds great. Well done 👍
Don't you just love it when the world goes blurry
Awesome build 👍🏻
You are a great fabricator that's awesome at your age!
Nice work!
Beautiful clean project well done❤️🔥
what an amazing build 👍
Great build
That bike was in a sorry state, but you are very talented indeed, the right person for the right job .Well done, love the old 70's 2 strokes .
I had the Suzuki GT380 two stroke tripple. Same idea - mad power band. Great fun!
R.I.P. Yamaha 350. less one in the world
Awesome man! Love the pipes
Amazing.
2T never die
Very rare touchup . Great job
The meaning of Perfection.....it you ♥️ great job dude ✨💫 RD350 LOVER ❣️
For certain you made it a better bike!! Nice!
Awesome skills!!!!
Well of course i am old school so rather it before getting modified....i had an R5 for my second bike and it was a weapon in those days once timing was set up using a dial gauge. Never seen an angle grinder used so freely on a restoration and an engine being dumped on the ground as the frame was tilted...i guess this is the younger generation modern way. Great to see they are still interested in bikes. Probably made more from youtube with this bike clip then we did in our entire life from restoring bikes :)
Bro I'm from India. I love that sound
You have earned a sub I have no clue what I'm doing but I am soon to get a bike and start doing the same thing for the very first time I have had a few motorcycles over the years but this has made me want to do the same thing that you have done so hopefully it goes well
Wow she’s a beautiful screamer… I want it !!!
Your fabricating skills are godlike! What an incredible build!! 20 HP and 20 mph over stock is impressive!!
You're like a young John Britten. If you don't know who he is, check him out! Even somebody with your skill sets, will be truly impressed!
Stay safe, Brother!
Hell yes! I wish they'd manufactured 900's and up. Can you imagine the thrill and terror of their acceleration?
they did yzr500 for race. They were way to fast and to hard to handle. 2T after some point of power is not rideable.
Absolute gr8 restoration ,you cant beat the old RD s i used to production race them back in the 80 s brilliant bikes for the time, there was a lot of work on filming and editing take credit for that too, greetings from Wales UK.
Looks super amazing rd350 is one of the best 2 stroke I have 1973 rd350 us spec with upgraded ignition and some racing parts paint and everything original 5400 kilometers on it
