No, "EU" is short for the "European Union" a *specific* political entity located *in* the continent of Europe, but one that some countries take part in and others do not.
Europe is much, much bigger then the EU.
As a example, EU has a population of about 447 million people, the population of Europe is about 748 millions.
Norway, Iceland, the Faero islands, Greenland, Russia, Switzerland, Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Boznia & Herzegovina, Kosovo, Andorra, Armenia, Azerbajan, Belarus, Georgia, Lictenstain, Moldova, Monaco, San Marino, Ukraine, the UK and the Vatican City are *all* nations partially or fully within Europe but *not* in the EU.
Greenland isn't a part of the Europe continent its a part of north America bit it is own by Denmark but that doesn't make it a part of europe
The Faroe Islands are not an independent country they are part of Denmark
@@Cicada-rk8lm Correct, they're not a part of Europe, but they're *not* a part of the EU despite being a part of the Danish *Kingdom*.
@@lightfootpathfinder8218 I said Nation, not country.
Also, the Faero islands is a part of the Danish *Kingdom* I believe.
The kingdom and the country is different entities.
Think of it as like Scotlands relationship with England.
Scotland is a part of the UK not England, just like England is.
The Faerie islands has its own parliament just like Scotland.
And they *can* pass laws if I don't remember wrong (although the Danes can veto them).
They're *not* a part of the country of Denmark pr say unless I'm much mistaken, but in a personal union with Denmark.
It's a bit like how the Island of Man or the channel islands has never been a part of the UK despite being under the British monarch.
Being far less powerful the larger county of course has a lot of say and might de facto be ruling the place, but to my understanding they're not de jure a part of Denmark.
@@Luredreier I stand corrected👍 I didn't know the Faroes had there own parliament that is interesting. From what you have mentioned it is very similar to the isle of man. Now you mention it the faroes do have their own international football team so yes they would be a nation just not independent
One way to learn about European would be by starting from the beginning: Ancient Greece and the Roman Empire. What those two cultures did can still be felt in our modern days.
True! That's why we still learn it.
European history goes back further than that. Newgrange in Ireland is over 5200 years old.
@@jimbomacers I was talking about cultures that have had the biggest impact on European history, language, art, code of law etc.
@@jimbomacers some megalithic monuments in Brittany (Barnenez or the saint Michael tumulus of Carnac) are much older than Newgrange (almost 7000 years old) and probably part of the same cultural area. And in a different one the first traces of the temples of Malta are even older.
@@RabbitShirak then we should also count the Germanic people, or the Celts and others too who had big impacts on the Latin world...
I don’t know why you were mocked for saying Russia is in Europe. It’s a tricky country in term of in which continent it is. Part of the country is in Europe, bigger part in Asia. Russia has borders with China, North Korea and Finland among others so its really big
Definitely not in EU but can easily be considered part of Europe
I think technically Europe and Asia is one continent. We just call them 2 because of cultural differences and such.
Also most Russians lives in the European part.
@@stickystick1048 and the Russian culture originates in Europe (Moscovy)
Most of the major cities and population are in Europe
Because is something basic
Seriously, it's so cool that you're learning! Such a cool trait! The world would be a better place if we were all life-long learners
Don't mind about some assholes. Majority of Europeans are very kind and nice people - just like you and majority of Americans. Peace and Love!
Well said!
Yes, also by the names, although they could be false, they seem to be some russian troll, of which I have seen plenty on the internet. They are purposefully cruel to create a toxic interaction.
@@ChiaraVet well there are russian bots trying to divide baltics so who knows what kind of stuff their doing over there
@@foreignreacts Yea. And mostly you won't even have same level of racism, if any basically short of more or less quiet worry about people not adapting to local customs and laws if they come from some place that's really different. Of course countries will be different about it though. But alas I thought to give you something to react to or just check out - there are these about other countries too, but as I am a Finn, got to promote the one about Finland ^^:

Hope you are enjoying the long pile of videos people probably suggest. I don't do social media, so figured to put right there. I enjoy your reactions - besides it's always good to see when people wish to learn more.
Your learning and that's what's important. I learned a lot too. Keep the vids coming
Where Europe ends is kind of arbitrary because technically Europe, Asia and Africa are all connected to eachother. The most common decide is the Ural mountains range in Russia; everything west of it is Europe everything east Asia.
Most people saying EU tend to mean the Political Union at least within said EU.
EU is the "European Union", which currently has 27 specific member states. No more, no less.
Oh, really? Just tell us where Europe connect with Africa pls
@@danavoicu7981 Europe is connected to Asia and the middle east. Egypt connects to the middle east. The Suez canal is manmade.
@@broodjebamibal and just because suez canal is "manmade" you don't know where africa ends and middle east begins? 🤣🤣🤣
@@danavoicu7981 What are you on about? Egypt and Israel are adjacent countries. Why don't you open Google Earth and check it before you comment...
Another thing! Macedonia is now called North Macedonia. They had a name dispute with Greece since Greece has an area called Macedonia as well.
Thanks for the information! Do you know why Greece just didn’t called their part South Macedonia?
@Nitoginko no problem! I think both sides wanted to create a connection with the Macedonian Empire that Alexander the Great created. Greeks changing their Macedonia would diminish that claim, I think? Or maybe their side covered more of the original kingdom Macedonia? Again, I'm a bit fuzzy with the details. Hope my ramblings helped a bit atleast^^'
@@RabbitShirak Thank you for the response. I got interested and googled it and found this. Your answer was pretty near to the truth:
“From the point of view of many of the Greeks making the objection, "Macedonia" should be the land on Philip of Macedon and Alexander the Great. The core of this territory lies in modern Greece, so for lots of them, it would be "central" or "true" Macedonia, rather than South Macedonia.”
pls don't care about 'mean' europeans....mean people you've got them everywhere!! Russia is part of geographical europe but it is not part of the EU (European Union is a club with currently 27 members)
Thanks for informing!
they should make north and south america a single continent and europe asia and africa another with australia and antarctica completing the set or just call the whole thing earth

No.
Europe and the EU is two *very* different things.
It's kind of like saying that Canada is a state in the US rather then a separate country in North America.
There's still several European nations that are *not* members of the EU.
Ah, now I see why they reacted that way.
You actually reacted to a video explaining all of this a lot better.
ua-cam.com/video/qsLmbCQ7NEs/v-deo.html
I totally get that you've forgotten the details of that video.
But please, one take away you *should* have is that the EU does *not* include all of Europe and that there's a lot of countries that's parts of *some* aspects of the EU but *not* others.
Also, astrixes, lots and lots of astrixes...
Don't worry about memorizing *exactly* what countries are or are not a part of the country (except perhaps Russia, as that's kind of a big one, given that they're the main country *opposing* the EU and the west in Europe).
Just don't *assume* that a country is in the EU unless you *know* for sure.
The EU is a hot potato topic in Europe.
Very few people are neutral towards the EU.
Most are either for or against either the organization as a whole, or the membership of their specific country in the organization.
Essentially being for or against membership is as much a part of the identity of many Europeans as being for or against gun regulation is in the US.
You can *talk* about the EU just fine for the most part.
But if you want to talk about EU *membership* of a country make sure you got it 100% right and don't say anything about what countries *should* or should not do with regards to membership unless you want to enter the trenches of that debate together with us Europeans.
The other thing you might want to be carefull with is anything regarding the Balkans...
There's been a *lot* of wars there and the whole area is heavily politicized...
Respect for actually giving an effort to learn. Don't worry about mistakes, you can't know everything.
The European Union is a league of some, but not all European states. It started as West European Economic Community, which was an approach to 1) avoid another European war 2) to overcome the economic problems after WW II by 3) unifying the coal and steel production in a common market, because the quarrels about that commodities had much to do with the pre-war tensions between France and Germany (pre WW I and pre WW II) (aside from ideology). The European Economic Community was founded in 1957 by France, Germany, the Benelux countries (Belgium-Netherlands-Luxembourg) and Italy, the members of the 1951 founded European Coal and Steel Community. In 1992 this became the European Community by the Maastricht treaty, with the additional members UK, Ireland, Denmark (all joined in 1973), Greece, Spain, Portugal (since 1980). Some eastern European states joined the following years, as well as neutral Austria. In 2007 this was enlarged into the European Union by the Lisbon treaty. Nowadays the European Union has 27 member states (after Brexit), see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Member_state_of_the_European_Union. Not a member are e.g. Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, most Balkan states, Belarus, Moldovia, Ukraine and Russia.
@catlover Geographically Georgia is situated on the (imaginated) border between Europe and Asia. Some geographers split it in an European and an Asian part. Armenia being even more to the East is clearly West Asia geographically, but European in cultural contexts since ancient times. The European Council uses a similar flag as the European Union, but is a totally separate organization, a council of cooperation in Europe. It has 47 member states, all European states including Russia, Turkey, Armenia, Georgia and even Azerbaijan at the Caspian Sea, but excluding Belarus, Kosovo and Vatican.
Who mocked you for saying Russia is un Europe ? A big part of it is. It's capital is in Europe, that's where it expended from before colonizing Siberia and Central Asia. It's not purely in Europe or in Asia. It's in both
Yeah, those people were just ignorant about Russia's whereabouts.
You would think this was common knowledge :D
a much much bigger part of it is in asia but its still considered european and a part of eurasia wich is just europe and asia as one giant continent
State of Monaco = City of Monaco.
Monte-Carlo is just an urban quarter. The palace of the prince can be found in the urban quarter of Monaco-Ville.
These are things your public school should have taught you but that's not your fault. You should be commended for making the effort to learn. There's no shame in not knowing, only in not trying. Keep up the great work!
The EU is not Europe! Europe is a continent, the EU is a political treaty area.
@@MichalNemet still, NOW it's also a political union. Even though it's not a federation, we still have common institutions and laws.
10:00 The Vatican is within Rome. It is the last remainder of the Papal States. San Marino is a microstate within Italy (pop. 33,562, independent since 301 AD, republic since 367 AD). Monaco (pop 38,682, with 19,099 inhabitants per square km the most densely-populated state in the world), originally a colony of Genua, conquered the first time by the (Genoese, but of the Guelph party, while Genoa itself was Ghibellini - which names refer to the competing German dynasties of the Welf and the Hohenstaufen) Grimaldi family in 1297, which was evicted some years later, but buyed it back from the Crown of Aragon in 1419. Andorra became a codominium of the Bishop of Urgell (Catalonia/Spain) and the count of Foix (France) in the 12th century. Nowaday the nominal heads of state (the co-princes) are the Bishop of Urgell and the President of France, but it is parliamentary democracy of its own.
11:00 ERROR-ERROR-ERROR: Kazakhstan is not in Europe, but in Central Asia (between Russia and China, north of Afghanistan). And they missed Turkey, which Anatolian part is geographically West Asia, but has also an European part (East Thrace). Armenia is east of Turkey, so no geograpical part of Europe, as well as Georgia northeast of Turkey, but both are historic parts of the European cultural circles and take part in the Eurovision Song Contest (as do Israel and Australia). They forgot also Zyprus.
They don't miss turkyie (still strange that this country change his name in 2022 )nor cyprus , they are in the video
Nethertheless , Kazakhstan was not part of europe at all ! Also they are wrong about the capital of Andorra . I don't know the enflish name for this city but i'm pretty sure that , like in french , its not only Andorra but more like andorra the old (in french , the city is named "andorre la vieille" )
Props to you for knowing about the Euro Vision Song Contests!
Most Americans have no clue, but it's HUGE in Europe.
A blessed day, where Australia and Israel are part of Europe 😜
HUGE is a huge overestimation, none of the people I know really care about Eurovision... Sure, the winner and whatnot appear in news, but I believe only a certain category of people are really interested.
@@RaduRadonys yes, only a category of 200 mil people. :)
The exact border between Europe and Asia is debatable (usually it's considered to be the Ural mountain and river in the north, then following the Manych depression (or alternatively along the Caucasus mountains) to the black sea and through the Bosporus strait into the Mediterranean Sea. Nobody would consider the countries south of the Caucasus (Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan) or Kazakhstan to be European Countries. Also Cyprus is geographically in Asia.
Seems like the makers of that video watched the Eurovision Song Contest and somehow think that just because those countries have participated they must be in Europe.
As for the small City states Monaco and Vatican: those dont have capitals - they *are* the capital. Saying that "Monte Carlo is the capital of Monaco" would be like calling Manhattan the Capital of New York City.
I remember when I was in school in Germany and in Croatia that we counted Cyprus to Europe regardless of its position. 🤷
@@Niki91-HR Politically/culturally: yes. But geographically it would be kinda weird, woulndn't it?
@@stephanweinberger I guess I am soo used to it that I dont find it that weird...it is weirder to put Turkey into Europe, although a small part lies in Europe. 😅
I guess from the political perspective it aint surprising then that Cyprus is a member of the EU.
Idk it aint even that weird to put Georgia in Europe either 😅... but I agree with your comment about ESC when it comes to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Armenia.
But then again all you wrote makes sense 🙈😊
Georgia and Armenia are more culturally close to Europe, and they’re usually considered Eastern Europeans. Kazakhstan maybe because they have some territories in Europe, but idk about Azerbaijan, they have some Eastern European influences though, especially Russian.
At school I learned that Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaidjan were European countries too... But the limits between Europe and Asia are purely imaginary as geographically it's just one big continent, Eurasia, so we can just decide which countries are in or not and where we want to put the limits
Nice video. And don't care about bullies!
Another quick info, Europe has three big language families: Romance, germanic and slavic. Romance languages are basically in the south, germanic in the middle, north and west and slavic in the east. There are also smaller language groups, like Finno-Ugric, made of finnish, estonian and hungarian.
But you forget greek .
@@vaso28 I didn't forget, I just mentioned the biggest language families and one small one. There are more languages than what I just mentioned.
Man, I am so proud of you for learning because it's very important that everybody knows about other countries and other points of view and not everyone is willing to do it. But I also wanna ask you a question because I am so shocked that you had nevere seen the Colosseum in Rome before, I mean, it's considered such an important landmark in Europe I didn't know americans don't know about it. Is that you didn't recognize it at first or you really never heard about it? Thanks in advance, love from Italy
Colosseum is shown in a much better shape in The Gladiator of course, so maybe that's overriden the reality for some people. I've known that to happen with other ruins too, as movies and documents placed in the past often only show pyramids, castles etc. as they were in their prime. (Although I just realised that The Gladiator is 22 years old already, there could well be a huge bunch of adults who've not even heard of it!)
Fun fact: Spain and San Marino are the only two countries in the world without lyrics on their national anthems.
fun fact 2. Lichtenstein has the same anthem like GB 😉
@@smolli91 Really? 😄 Never knew that.
@@dyawr ah sorry not spain, it is the same melody like "God save the queen" Switzerlands old national anthem is also the same melody (Heil dir Helvetia)
@@smolli91 Hahaha I was a bit confused… the Spanish anthem is La Marcha de Granaderos, or Marcha Real, and it’s one of the anciest national anthems in Europe

I don't want to be mean but this revelation really made me laugh, so please forgive me 😀
Keep on learning my man. Hello from Iceland 🇮🇸
its quite interesting to watch on your journey to learn about Europe and stuff :D nice
Berlin is geographically incorrectly positioned on the map, it is further east in Germany. Switzerland has no capital, just a seat of government. Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands, but the seat of government is in The Hague. Budapest is further north than shown... A small part of Turkey belongs to mainland Europe, the much larger part belongs to Asia, also only a small part of Kazastan belongs to Europe. The much larger rest is in Asia, Azerbaijan too. Armenia, and much more Georgia and Cyprus do not belong geographically to Europe but culturally. And the Faroe Islands and Svalbard were not mentioned at all.
Oh dear, mistakes everywhere...
Well the Faroe Islands technically belong to Denmark (they are an autonomous region), and Svalbard is part of Norway.
I was chuckling at the picture that was "supposedly" from Nicosia, but the picture is actually from Helsinki. It's from the Hakaniemi market square, overlooking the "Ympyrätalo" (Roundhouse).
We consider it to Anatolia rather than Asia in Turkey. The country is a bridge between Europe, Asia and Arabian Peninsula. 10% of Turkey is on Europe, the rest of 90% is in Anatolia
Also, the capital of Andorra is Andorra la Vella, and the Vatican, which should be called "Vatican city", is a city-state itself, so it has no capital.
And a serious misspelling of the Capital of Sweden, Stockholm, they forgot the H. There is no city in Sweden spelled "Stockolm", it shall be "Stockholm"
I've read a book about Russia ("Natasha's dance") that was very interesting: a history book but told almost as a romance, through the lives of some people. The struggle they went through by being both in Europe and outside Europe is real. And I'm talking about an existential and cultural struggle.
That beutiful building in Rome is the Colosseum, it was finished in 80 AD
Thank you for the reaction! Just laughing at the chosen picture representing Bratislava in Slovakia :D typically it's the view of the Bratislava castle, but well, that's ok, at least we weren't forgotten as usual ^^
You are adorable and it's fun to watch you learn!
Hey man, great that you learn! I am actually Polish from Kraków (Poland's former capital, great medieval city), but live and study in Germany now. You got me interested with your enthusiasm for Junior Eurovision Contest and I checked who Poland's Sara James was (I don't really follow Eurovision), and surprisingly, she was born and, I think, lives in Słubice, a small town just across the border from where I currently live, Frankfurt and der Oder - also very close to Berlin, as the capital is actually very close to border with Poland too. She seems like a genuine talent and great personality, just as you. What a small world. Keep on rocking and do not worry about some strange comments, all the best!
Thank you!
Mean people are just mean people, regardless of nationality. Don’t listen to anyone trying to put you down. It’s a wonderful thing that you take interest in things outside your own everyday life ❤️, good work 👍🏻!
The EU is a political union with 27 independent member states, while Europe as a whole consists of 50. Russia, like Turkey, belongs to both, Europe and Asia. Russia isn’t an EU member state. The European part of the country is much smaller in terms of area, but the significantly larger part of the Russian population lives here.
Kazakhstan is actually central asian.
Turkey is in Asia mostly, but less than 1/5 in Europe geographically, but culturally is more or less both.
Hi, greetings from Slovakia!
The Vatican is special. It is essentially a very, very small country within Rome. If you go to google maps and zoom in on Rome - you will see that The Vatican (where the pope resides) is essentially a district inside Rome. However it is its own country.
This is also the smallest country of the World, with an area of less than half a square kilometers. This is also the currently the only official theocracy recognised by the UN.
I usually hate react videos in general, but man, you are cool. +1 sub and looking forward to learn something about the US.
On Spain Border Is Gibraltar under UK juristiction,Kosovo Is parth of Serbia,Vatican and San Marino are on Italien territory but thay have Independence...
Hahah, I like pictures of some capitals, like Bratislava (a small peninsula with 1 small buidling), Warsar (inside of a shopping center) and others... lol
You should really, really react to "ancient rome in 20 minutes". You didn't even recognize the colosseum, which is incredible to me
When I saw the picture of Viena I was almost sure they will have a picture of "Pankrac Manhatten" for Prague. :D
San Marino, Andorra, Monaco etc is a series of mini countries that consists of single city and not much else. Thus the capital often bears the same name as the country.
Monaco yes, because the entire country is only the city, but about San Marino and Andorra and Liechtenstein pretty sure that the capitals are not the only populated places, yes they are small and they're probably only villages, but they exist
Some mistakes here and there but still nice seeing that you take the time and effort to sit down and learn. Much love :)
EU is not the same as Europe in general, all EU countries are in Europe, but not all countries in Europe are in the EU😅 it's like you have North America with Mexico, Canada and then the US as a federated state. The EU is kind of like the US, but still with national states and not completely united and strong. More economically and in terms of movement. 27 out of 50 European countries are in the EU 🇪🇺🥰
Actually, Cyprus is in Asia.
Actually, not all EU countries are in Europe, Cyprus is technically in Asia. And if you count the oversee territories of France, Netherlands, Spain etc., you have bits of EU in all continents. So I agree with you that terms EU and Europe is not interchangeable.
@@edkollert8279 Cyprus is (also) classified as Europe tho, as we saw in the vid.

We are never to old to learn.
Hi there, the Vatikan it not only close to Rome, it is in Rome !!
The United Kingdom IS NOT A COUNTRY!!
It is four countries. England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
These are all separate nations. If you asked anyone from any of the countries of the UK if they were 'British', the only ones who may just answer yes to save argument, will be the English. Anyone from the other nations will correct you instantly and tell you exactly where they are from......and they may be a little offended!
Also they all have their own capital cities.
Scotland --- Edinburgh
Wales --- Cardiff
N.Ireland --- Belfast
England --- London
I'm german and we learned it in school that Russia belongs to 2 continents (Asia and Europe) also called euroasi.
The European side is until the Ural mountains and from there on its Asia.
But Russia is not in the European Union. The union was build up to have like a community of countries to support each other and become more sustainable. Many countries are already in the union and many more want to join.
Just a heads-up. Whilst both Russia and Turkey are partly in Europe none are members of the EU.
Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are formally not European, but Asian countries, the capitals of these countries are located in Asia. Asia and Europe are one continent called Eurasia, they are divided due to their separate culture and history.
Could you please have a video about thd US with the states and caputaks and main characteristics ?
1:05
Why on Earth would anyone mock you for thinking that Russia is in Europe?!?
Yes, half the country *is* in Asia.
But honestly the most populated part of Russia is all in Europe.
Now, if you said that Russia is in the EU then yes, I can see people mocking you for that...
It's a bit unfair still, and I wouldn't.
But I get their point of view.
no europe and the eu are different things... europe is a continent like north america while the eu is a union of many countries situated on the european continent but not all of them
Never in any way shape or form is it ever acceptable for anyone to make fun of people who have sadly died, it’s utterly despicable. Not all us Europeans are like that. The majority of us are decent people. I’m so sorry you encountered people being abusive to you.
EU has many meanings, there is the continent of Europe which includes parts of Russia, the same as the continent of America includes South America and Canada, and then there is the European Union which is a collection of countries that have join together in a similar way to the United States
Europe is a continent whereas the EU (European Union) is a group of independent countries located in the European continent that chose to work together.
It’s kind of like the USA is in the continent « America » but is not all of America. America and United States of America are different entities. Europe and European Union are different entities.
the Eu is a collection of European country's . Russia is part in Europe (1/3 gife or take) the other 2/3 is in Asia. Turkey is only west of the bosparus in Europe the most part is in Asia. Kazachstan is in Asia not in Europe
Russia is part of Europe but it's not part of the EU (European Union). Like Canada or Mexico are states (state meaning country) in America but they are not part of the United states of America.
I hope this clears it up.
"EU" is the abbreviation for European union, if someone says "EU" without further context or clarification, everybody assumes he's talking about the European Union. If it's used for anything else it must be clear by the context: for example when listing continents: SA, NA, AF, EU, AS, OC, AN then EU indeed means Europe the continent. Or if a Scottish student in Edinburgh says he is studying at the EU, it's means Edinburgh University.
Awesome video. FYI, the EU (European Union) is located on the continent of Europe, but dose not comprise all of the countries of Europe. The EU and Europe are 2 different things, 👍👍
Europe is a continent and several nation are physically in it, but the European Union is a socio-economic-political union of 27 countries, which decided to unite by a contract and they all decide their strategy regarding economy and laws. Of course, each nation is still free and decides the laws within its borders, but EU laws are for the European Union's countries. The European Union has its own parliament and each nation has representatives in it and they all vote for the laws and regolamentations.
So, regarding Russia: Russia is in Europe, but it isn't a member of the European Union.
To be specific, one may argue Russia is in Eurasia (Europe and Asia), since Russia technically ends in some parts of Asia too.
EU is the abbreviation of European Union.

The EU (European Union) is only a political sub-part of Europe. There are 50 countries in Europe, and among them 27 are in the EU. Some countries are tiny, like Vatican, Monaco, San Marino, Andorra, Liechtenstein.
Ancient Greece was the one to put forth the notion of 2 continents, Europe and Asia. It was their view of the world. Some countries are part of both, like Turkey and Russia. But there is really only 1 geographical continent Eurasia. From what I know, several countries in the world don't consider that there are 2 continents but only 1.
EU means European Union, it's not used for Europe usually. In recent years more and more people use EU and Europe interchangeably that leads to confusion. Also Russians often see themselves as a saparate thing form Europe.
Cool video. The European Union is actually a political and economic union within the continent of Europe. Not all European countries are part of that union. So the EU and Europe are not the same per se.
Vatican City occupies a square mile of Rome, and is ruled by the Pope. Due to the Lateran Treaty signed between the Pope and Mussolini, it is a completely separate state, although on friendly terms with Italy/
In Great Britain is there 4 countries. Capital city is in brackets. England (London), Wales (Gardiff), North Ireland (Belfast) and Skotland (Edinburgh)
That should be Cardiff for Wales. Scotland is how it is spelt. Watch your spelling.
@@barnowl5774 it is Danish spelling... So if I'm dyslexic... Then I'm stupid.
@@TheUnited4real
Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I understand, technically Northern Ireland is not part of Great Britain, but part of the United Kingdom, which isn't the same thing.
Not that this really seems to matter too much.
Great Britain is an island. Ireland is another island. UK keeps territories in Ireland, but they're obviously NOT in Great Britain.
@@TheUnited4real Thanks for letting me know that is Danish spelling. Please remember that you are writing to a person who speaks English, about English words, and would think that the words were the English spelling. Are you dyslexic? My niece is dyslexic and she is not stupid. Dyslexia does not equate to stupidity.
Hey, I think you are superclever to learn all the time. And not living in a bubble. i have learn much about USA too.
*Europe is the name of the continent.
*The EU (European Union) is a union of some of the countries in Europe.
*Russia with its huge land mass lies on two continents ( Europe and Asia).
Russia (heartland) is in Europe but Russia is not at all in European Union, no way they’ll ever be..

Måneskin, but you probably don't have a button for the letter Å.

Some of the captials on this map are totally of. Like London is way to east. Berlin is too much in the middle. Poland's capital is called Warsaw. Sweden's capital is not called Stockolm, but Stockholm.

Monte-Carlo is NOT the capital of Monaco. It's just the most famous part of Monaco, where the main Casino is. The prince palace and government building are in Monaco Ville. It's a city state so the capital of Monaco is Monaco itself. Like Singapore or Vatican city.

The capital of Andorra is "Andorra La Vella" meaning "Andorra the City"..
8:50 EU is not the abbreviation for all of Europe. It is only the abbreviation for the European Union. And since quite a few countries aren't part of the EU (only 27 of 50), you really can't use the abbreviation EU to mean all of Europe. We don't. If we mean all of Europe, we say Europe, even in the EU... The EU just means the European Union.
Just like how America is not short for the USA, but means the entire continent of North and South America. Even though Americans have appropriated the name anyway and call themselves Americans and their country America, even though Canadians, Mexicans, Argentinians and so on are just as american as "Americans" since they're from the continent of America too.
In fact Cyprus is Asia. It's usually included in Europe only for political reasons and its greek culture. Sadly half of it was invaded by Turkey, which does NOT belong to european culture.
Russia is so big that part of it is in Europe and the rest of it is in Asia. But Russian main culture and main traditions are from European origin, not Asian.
1:15 Well - is someone laughed at you for saying Russia is in Eurupe then they are actually wrong - 1/3 of Russia is actually in Europe, and the European part of Russia is way bigger than any other European country.
The European part of Russia is actually dominating Russia - almost 75 % of the population live here and all of the most important state institutions are located in the European part, including the capital. However it has to be mentioned that 2/3 of the land mass are located in Asia.
While it is true that Iceland is counted as a European country that is actually debatable. Politically - yes. However when speaking about the geographical position Iceland is actually not part of Europe; Iceland is part of the Atlantic tectonic plate and not Europe.
8:52 No. EU is the abrevation of European Eunion and therefore only covers the 27 EU members - of which two are actually not located in Europe btw, but in the mediterranian (Malta and Cyprus). EU is NOT short for Europe.
Turkey is not a part of Europe btw with the exception of that tiny portion around Istanbul which is roughly 5 % of the land mass of Turkey - the other 95 % are located in Asia, not in Europe. Likewise, Cyprus is a member of the EU but is not located in Europe.
Vatican City and San Marino are not close to Italy, they are surrounded by Italy.
Ok their "other countries in Europe" is actually completely off. Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Kaszahkstan are all located in Asia, not in Europe: Kaszahkstan has actually a pretty long border with China. Why they included that in a countries of Europe video is really weird.
Soooo Switzerland doesn’t actually has a capital per se. Bern is the seat of Gouvernement and whit that functions like the de facto capital but as I said before we have no actual capital by law.
Eastern geographical borders of Europe is Ural Mountains in Russia.. Cheers from Slovakia 🤘🥳🇸🇰🇪🇺
Not everyone agrees on where exactly the border is between Europe & Asia.
Russia is transcontinental- Its capital and majority of it’s population is in Europe though most of its territory is in Asia.
Turkey is transcontinental because it has small bit in Europe, but it is mostly in Asia.
Beyond those 2, there’s several other countries that are either part of Europe or part of Asia or are likewise transcontinental, all depending on where specifically one draws the boundary: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Georgia, Greece, & Kazakhstan.
Hmmm, Cyprus maybe. But I never heard anyone debating whether Greece is in Europe or not... I mean, it is a Balkanic country.
I can understand Georgia, Kazakhstan, Armenia & Azerbaijan tho'. Tbh, I forgot they were in Europe..😅
@@dyawr Greece’s eastern most islands are on the Asian tectonic plate so if one draws the boundary solely on a geological basis Greece would be considered a transcontinental country.
EU = European Union (political union), Europe = geographic term for the cotinent of Europe
I am European but the capitals from the former Yugoslavia I also can’t remember. Also the parts of former USSR, I am to old. They were still around when I was a kid and learned that;)
It's actually possible in the future that the European Union gets transformed into a whole state with the current members as some kind of federal states. And I am very excited to see that. But also right now the EU has already much influence on our daily lives, if you only think about the Euro and the monetary policies or the laws in general. Also, European law stands above national law already and you can go to European courts to correct national jurisdiction.
By European, I mean European Union here. It's quite common to just say European but it's important to not get this confused. Greetings from Germany :)
By the way, I can recommend two videos from a German moderator/entertainer/whatever to get to know the European spirit:
"United States Of Europe [Gibraltar to Spitsbergen, Cayenne to Crimea] | NEO MAGAZIN ROYALE - ZDFneo"
"[Extended Version] Comedians for Worldpeace - Do they know it’s Europe | Neo Magazin Royale"
I've heard of Athens before.
😶😶😶 wow.
When it comes to the Eurasian Plate, you are right, we are connected. When it comes to Europe, you're not wrong, Russia is part of it, but people tend to forget that. For us Europeans, the border is Russia, even if tectonically it belongs to Europe to a large extent. And if the Russians had kept Alaska, it would have been the only state on three continents.
I might forget here, the expanding phase of UK, which got Australia, some parts of Africa, the USA, India....
@@ThorstenGowik These countries are not part of Britain they are colonies in a the Commonwealth. You want to talk about the French who actually assimilated their colonies into their culture so all their colonies are French and therefore part of the EU.
@Alberta Owusu If you take it this way, you think they commonwealth did anything, and I mean, anything better then the collianist?
The EU is the European Union, as a governing unit
Russia is part of Europe, but not one of the countries in the EU

Russia is a tricky country. Depending on historic time stands it is/was considered or considered itself part of Europe. Nowadays it has an European and an Asian part. The majority of Russias population lives in the western part so by definition they are European. I don’t know if Russians from the east would consider themselves European but I would guess not. That’s at least what I learn in school. People correct me if I’m wrong. I really would want to know myself!
A quick correction. In the Video Turkey is listed as part of Europe. Turkey has an European part but it only makes 3% of its size. People wouldn’t consider Turkey a European country. They would say it part of it is located on European ground.
Not thrue, Nederland's capital is Den Haag (La Haye). Amsterdam is just the biggest Nederland's city !
Russia is a part of the European continent (only a part of it because Russia actually stretches through 2 continents) but not the European Union. EU means European Union it's not short for European continent.
would say about 1/3 of Russia is in Europe. The rest is in Asia ;)
Russia is and isn't in Europe...
Half of it is on the European side and the other is on the Asian side of the continent (hence why the continent itself is largely known as Eurasia)...
There's also a completely detached part of Russia a bit deeper in Europe called Kaliningrad, bordering Poland and Lithuania both of which "mainland" Russia is nowhere near.
With all that being said, Russia is not a part of the European Union...
EU stands for the European Union, and the abbreviation is almost never used to describe Europe as a whole.
Hope this helps :)
Yeah, I think he will remember that. He did a video on it: ua-cam.com/video/qsLmbCQ7NEs/v-deo.html
Which was pretty informative. Anyway, I think only 1/3 of Russia is in Europe actually, most of its territory is in Asia 🤔
@@dyawr You're right, but most of Russia that's on the Asian side is uninhabitable, so its almost as if it's not even there, ya kno?
@@Ennui. Ehh, kind of but no.
Russia is, partly, in Europe. Ignore the haters, but embrace those who point out (your) mistakes politely.
Like... the little arrow pointing out the Dutch capital Amsterdam is actually pointing to the city of The Hague, which is not the capital but is the seat of government.
The European Union is not the same as Europe. Europe is a geological concept, the EU is a political organization. Russia is partly in Europe, but certainly not in the EU.

Yeah, I'm fairly sure this video wasn't made by a native English speaker.
Because that's not the *English* name of that country.
What, Moldavia? Actually *that was* the English name for it, at least in the past. That's how I always heard it referred to in English, while I was growing up. 🤷♀️
If they changed it recently, it's most probl to respect the name in the *local* language- Rep. of 'Moldova'.
