Crazy how they are pro-eugenics and anti-abortion.
Yeah, like make it make sense.
It is interesting because I’ve also argued with pro birthers who are against abortion involving fetuses with defects. If I point out that some people simply can’t afford the various expenses medications and treatments for a child they get angry and say oh so it’s inconvenient.
Especially since the eugenics movement found some allies in some leaders of the early pro-abortion movement.
They really aren't anti abortion they are anti white abortion as they never really have a problem with black people having abortions only white people but they can never run of that so they will run on anti abortion until they no longer have to and will fully reveal they eugenics agenda like they slowly are starting to do.
it makes a lot of sense. Those that are born but not pure will be slaves.
One thing I learned about racism, eugenics, sexism, etc is that it NEVER goes away. It just mutates and we as a society have to continue to fight it like a recurring cold.
I wish we could just snuff out this disgusting bigotry destroying people's lives already.
It’s such an easy excuse to attempt control. It oversimplifies complex issues into something large groups can easily understand. Intelligent people don’t actually believe in racial supremacy, but some still value the idea for its ability to manipulate masses of less intelligent people.

So happy you included the sterilization of Puerto Rican woman seeing as I've meet too many people who don't even believe we're part of the US and try to erase our long history in US politics and wars
And throw Puerto Ricans to the wolves in a time of crisis. Following the devastation in Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in 2017; then President Donald Trump threw the residents of Puerto Rico to the wolves by refusing to help them and simply giving them paper towels. When the governor of Puerto Rico and the mayor of San Juan criticized Trump; he resorted to insults and name calling. I hate televangelists and their prosperity gospel ideology. For example; televangelist Reverend Joel Osteen refused to let people shelter in his church in Houston, Texas following Hurricane Harvey devastating the city in 2017, the same year Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico.
There can be no conversation about illegal sterilization without mentioning Puerto Rico. It would be incomplete.
Never underestimate just how dumb Americans can be.
I had an older boss, who was a xenophobe from Long Island, NY. He would just look at any Latino, assuming they were undocumented, and then start going off on anti-immigrant rants. I had to remind him a few times that certain people he was complaining about were actually Puerto Ricans. Each time he replied with something like "so?". Which resulted in me reminding him that they're US citizens.
It's just odd to me that people ever graduated school without knowing things like that.
Anyway, later on he befriended a Puerto Rican man around his age, and they would both complain about undocumented immigrants to each other in some kind of perpetual two man echo chamber of toxicity. As a Black American, I know token energy when I see it, and his new bff was *definitely* one. Plus he helped reinforce all of my old boss' bigoted ideas about people 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Im curious and it seems to be hard to find a clear answer on google. What is the public opinion on the US in puerto rico? Puerto Rico and other territories are still actively under the thumb of US colonialism so I would think sovereignty is desired, but then I also see support for joining the union, or do people just not really think about it? Just curious on what puerto ricans think and not what sweaty americans on reddit think.

There was someone in one of my classes who said “healthcare should not be free because then the poor will be able to have more children, and will make our society stupider” I asked why he thinks that people who have less money are less intelligent and he claimed that the rich are just more intelligent. The rate at which America is moving towards fascism is actually scary
It’s because of a systematic culling of class consciousness through relentless propaganda. As capitalism hollows out our society people have been programmed to be unable to recognize it’s just greedy rich people ripping us off, so that leaves them susceptible to fascist narratives. This is why the real bedfellow of fascism is capitalism, not socialism.
Remember: Canada is accepting refugees from the US. They predicted we'd fall to a far-right dictatorship for years. When (and if) you have to head north, bring identification. They won't require a passport but they do need to know who you are.
It's also pretty scary how quickly other countries are just straight up importing this American made fascism too. Just this week Bulgaria adopted a law that would prohibit teachers from speaking about LGBTQ+ issues in schools and Romanian news programs are barely translating fox news content. (talking about those because I'm from east Europe). It's all a shitshow all around.
If you watch the video what you realize is that America is fascist but disenfranchised its 'undesirables' instead of mass genocide.

I think the fact that there isn't a lot of support for people with disabilities and a lack of worker rights, I think is very reminiscent of eugenics

There are also doctors who deem disabled people as "not having a quality of life", then limit the procedures so that the disabled person will die.
This is done against the will of the disabled person, so you can't even call it euthanasia. But it's the reason why many disability activists are against euthanasia, as that would only make current eugenics easier.

I had a great-great aunt who was sterilized after going deaf from contracting measles when she was 9 around 1925. It was a condition of her family receiving government financial assistance. @@kayleegallagher7551 By laypeople, yes, because people use what they’re familiar with (also social media). But it fell out of professional use about a decade ago. It’s really not used anymore at any professional (or governmental) level.
@@kayleegallagher7551I feel like the term itself is actually pretty reasonable. People with serious disabilities quite literally have needs that are unique to their conditions. My mom needs hearing aids. A person in a wheel chair needs spaces that can accommodate it.
The real problem is that, no matter what term you use, any term that refers to people who are differently abled or neurodivergent will *always* be used as an insult. At least until we work hard to dismiss the associated stigma. I've never understood the point of changing the terminology every few years; as though the words themselves are what create the bigotry, not existing bigotry that weaponizes the very idea. It's pointless, and in my opinion, it only cedes ground to the people who are actually the problem.

We have the same needs as anyone else, they just have to be met differently. Also we aren't changing the terminology every few years. Disabled people have been asking to be called disabled for decades. Able bodied people keep forcing ridiculous euphemisms on us to try to find a way to avoid disability all together because they're uncomfortable with it. Just say disabled. Not special needs. Not differently abled or special abilities or handicapable or any other ridiculous euphemism disabled people never asked for.
Remember that while eugenics on humans has been somewhat limited.
We had no issue going the whole way with dogs, and look at what that lead to

Just a shame you always push for abortion and do nothing for pregnant women
I think sometimes we just argue about when. I think until birth is extreme... or at the very least nonsensical as a random point. And that's the law in a number of states. Any thoughts?
You may not now this, but late term abortions, aka abortions that occur in the third trimester, happens when the pregnant person's health is at risk (a possibility that they might die even, in some cases) or if a doctor finds a birth defects (like say, lethat birth defects) with the fetus. Late term abortions doesn't really happen because the pregnant person say "lol jk changed my mind 🤪"
What does that even mean? Nonsensical as a random point? What on earth are you talking about?

Don’t worry I’m not a right winger or bad faith. The biggest irony is that evolutionarily, eugenics does the OPPOSITE of genetic fitness. Fitness doesn’t mean being strong, dominating, etc. Fitness is tied to the context of the events and environment one is in. Diversity of genes is so, so important for survival and fitness.
Fitness just describes the likelyhood of successful reproduction, so if eugenics helps to weed out illnesses that cause early death, or other conditions that decreases the chance of reproduction, it indeed increases fitness.
But the main reason for eugenics is not fitness, but minimizing suffering (and maybe increasing intelligence) in future generations.
Eugenics doesn't promote the homogenity of genes either.
Actually it’s interesting because Darwin, a pioneer in the study of evolution was from a family who believed in eugenicist theories before the “science” was invented. If they really want to improve humanity, they should edit out the dark triad traits.
It's fun to tell eugenicists that Asians are the prime example of humanity, not whites
The paradox of eugenics is that it's most voracious advocates are the ones most deserving of it.
You have to keep in mind that proponents of eugenics always ALWAYS make sure to make the criteria fit themselves before placing it onto others. They ever actually cared about "creating better humans," it's all just and excuse to kill people they don't like.
Sacrificing their reproductive future for the good of humanity makes them sound noble.
It still happens in modern times too. My mom was sterilized against her will 1990 during a cesarean after having 3 kids in the space of 3 years. She was married and white but poor. If we would have been middle class we probably would have owned that hospital after that but my parents were 21/24, poor, and uneducated.
I realized the statement "we don't know what countries these people are coming from" but also say "they are coming from prisons and mental institutions." How does the government know these specific facts about institutions like prisons and psych wards but not what countries the people coming to the US are coming from. You cannot logic through this.
It's the scariest nonsense that pig has spouted out loud. It should terrify anyone with a heart.
Trump just lies, surely you know that
Consider the source. Logic does not apply.

It's also worth remembering that there were also advocates for Eugenics on the Left. The Fabians - a group of artists and writers including H. G. Wells - were proponents of it in early 20th century England.
True, just like there were many leftists who held racist and misogynistic views. However, the differences is that most modern leftists reject those old views and try to improve.
Leftists are eliminating the Right. Today the English. Tomorrow.....

As the terms "conservative" and "progressive" imply: one wishes to stay in the past while the other wishes to progress into the future.
@@IJustAnimateThatsTheJist Keep in mind that progress really only means "into the future"- making a pseudo-communist state may be progress but it might not be "good" and same goes for conservativism- just because they aren't advocating to burn the old world to dust doesn't automatically make them the villains. Surprisingly, the real world does in fact have nuance to it. I was pretty surprised too

I'm sorry to hear that. I know every country has their pros and cons, but this kind of histories are heartbreaking and made me fear to live or even visit United States. (I'm Latina and black, also trans, so chances of. Discrimination are high, unfortunately)

That's why it's important to teach people about the truth. The whole, unfiltered, uncensored truth, not the fairytale delusion that conservatives want to serve us. The right would lose so much traction if everyone had a more thorough understanding of history.
This video attempts to avoid disability so much it seems purposeful. Especially when time and time again there could have been one "even if someone did have lower intelligence to the point were we'd see them as disabled today, they still deserve to live and have human rights" and instead it was "even though they had average intelligence."
You can't go over everything, but most of what was gone over made disability unavoidable. From Buck V Bell to Nazi Germany to US sterilization.
And if anyone gets the idea, yes, even with that severe disability you mentioned, they still do not deserve to hear that its better for them if they did not exist. They still deserve bodily autonomy. It's still eugenics. If the "cure" for something is a lack of the person with it existing, its eugenics.
100 percent agree with you. Disability is not a problem of the individual but a problem of the society. A functioning society would be able to accommodate and adapt for the diversity of human experience.
@@tauntingeveryone7208wait wait, so basically you’d be willing to let someone very different be born just to suffer? For the greater good? I’m sorry but as a disabled person that was born with a genetic condition that could have been avoided, my life has been miserable. The pain, the struggle to be alive in a world where my life is just 210% more difficult than the average person, where everywhere I go I’m faced with discrimination, where if I want to live a somewhat normal life I’m told it’s better for me to not do that, because I risk passing down my bad genetics. When the IVF industry has been doing eugenics since its creation. Main difference? Those kind of medical procedures and interventions are only for the rich who can afford them. Only the healthiest embryos get to be born by their rich parents. While everyone else suffers the genetic lottery. That’s no way to defend humanity.
@@PossibleBat I think we are having a miscommunication. I am stating that disabilities tend to be caused by society and not by the individual. For example, someone in a wheelchair is disabled because they face more difficulty getting around. However, this is not because of the individual but the society the individual inhabits. A person with a wheelchair should have the same access to places and the same ability to move around as someone not in a wheelchair. Likewise, many disabilities are like that. For example, your disability with pain should not limit your ability to be able to interact with society. Society should accommodate you. If there are ways to ease your suffering the world should do that. Now when we are talking about illnesses that will kill you in the first couple of months or severely limit your life outcomes is when we should consider scanning for them. However, this is a fine line. To me, it sounds like a lot of your problems would be eliminated if society accommodates your disability but I might be wrong. I can sympathize with you. While my disability is not physical, I am autistic which comes with its own struggles. However most of those struggles are due to society not accommodating for me. I do not think eugenics is morally right because it used to keep society homogenized.
@PossibleBat I was born with a disability too, I currently have end stage OA in my foot that's been end stage since my teens due to it or the surgical correction of it.
You have a point though. What taunting is talking about is the social model of disability, I prefer the political/relational model proposed by Alice Kafer. Where there can be wants and cures for disability as an option while realizing there are plenty of social barriers in life. That it depends on the situation, whether someone has access to that sort of medical care or not, and if they have access to accommodation. It's a kind of shitty summary but I tried.
I can recognize that I want to be rid of my chronic pain while also knowing that it'd be a lot less of an issue if putting up with it wasn't easier than putting up with lack of wheelchair access. Even the treatment I need would make life more inaccessible and beyond affordability since I would need to pay someone to make sure I can go somewhere.
Rich people often choose embryos shown to not have any issues and discard the rest, rather than edit genes in utero. Unless if they get very experimental, utero gene therapy may not be available for them either. Basically, it wouldn't be removing the disability from the person, it'd be removing the disabled person, or embryo in this case.
@@tauntingeveryone7208I'm sorry, but that sounds a bit like "We should adapt society for people that are born without arms, not prevent people from being born without arms." That is an issue I have with arguments like yours (which are very common in left-wing circles discussing Sci fi). I get that, if we cannot solve the disability, we should not prevent the person to be born and should make all the arrangements for them to have a better life. But if we can prevent them from having a disability, that is not eugenics to me if we do it.
Your videos are so well made and produced, I feel as though I'm viewing a documentary. Really appreciate the depth and detail you put into each video.

How the fuck is this not taught in school this is HORRIFYING
I recommend the book “white trash” by Nancy Isenberg. Very eye opening about the concept of race and has a section dedicated to the eugenics movement as well.
Read it a couple of years ago, excellent. Should be required reading in every school.
I am from Puerto Rico. I had heard about the forced sterilization but don't remember ever hearing the statistic. My godmother and my mother's aunt, both born in the 40s, never had children of their own. I wonder if they were victims of eugenics in the island.
Thank you for doing this. Everyone needs to know this frightening history so they can see how many parallels there are to some of the shit spouted today. I highly suggest that everyone look up and watch the full documentary you used. It's very long, but so worth it.

It's legitimately terrifying how many of their arguments line up with modern talking points.
One thing: The obsession particularly with blonde hair blue eyed nordics goes back further than you think. The Romans wrote about it, they were OBSESSED with genealogy as they knew it. They would grow up with family trees painted on the walls that traced their family back to a god or goddess (at least the nobility and citizens of Rome). So when they wrote about these new nordic super soldiers it was kind of as a "this is why we are failing at conquering the heathens" propaganda combined with their fascination at how they believed strength and ability were passed down by blood (theirs coming directly from gods). Hitler and others really loved these writings as proof of how great they were before the "mixing" began and reasonings on why it needed to be kept pure or purified. So your references are really good but there's some other stuff that superseded it for different reasons that were kind of transferred to our modern understandings. All making a lovely shitstorm of making up psuedoscientific justifications for your hatred of certain people.
So, more Rome Worship leading to trouble.
It's the very idea of nobility that has persisted. That some people are noble and thus favored by the goods or they were born to be slaves. It's always just people justifying their power.
