    Thank you so much for putting out this video. I've watched 4 different videos, including the recorded lecture from my own class, and yours was the only one that made the most sense to me.

    Education is the one power no one can take from you, once you've learned it. Self respect; to take your life into your own hands takes self discipline.

    I notice in some of the lectures you use n Vs m for number of compounds.. .I think n is preferred ...is that true ?You are a CHAMPION ....at teaching and I truely appreciate how much time you devote in sharing your deep knowledge.... of so many many subjects ...on utube !

      It depends on where you are and what book you use. It really doesn't matter as long as each variable is defined.

    Thank you for all the information you provided, slow and understandable, even for a moderate person like me, now would you recommend a good calculator?

    • @MichelvanBiezen
      @MichelvanBiezen  2 роки тому +1

      Any calculator will work for you. I like the Casio FX-260. It costs less than $10.

    even though this was made 6 years ago, isn't the conversion supposed to be 36 instead of 12, if we claim that we are doing the conversion monthly because they're 12months in a year so in 3years there will be 36months.. kindly correct me...

    • @MichelvanBiezen
      @MichelvanBiezen  3 роки тому

      The number of conversions are always taken per year, so in this example there are 12 conversions (one per month). But note how the exponent is m x t which means we then multiply the number of conversions per year by the number of years.

      BODMAS.
      Add the numbers in the brackets 1st then do the exponents for that number.
      Example:
      (1+2)³×³ = ?
      Brackets 1st: (1+2) = 3
      Multiply: 3x3 = 9
      Exponent: 3³ = 27
      Use this same process with the example in the video you should get the right answer.

    what happend to the power (12)(3)
    you have not mentioned what to do with that ...my answer is not correct because of half information.

    • @MichelvanBiezen
      @MichelvanBiezen  7 років тому

      12 x 3 = 36 (thus the exponent is 36)

      Wait I think I figured it out. I had to divide the annual rate, 0.05, by 12, because it is now a monthly rate. I think....

    • @MichelvanBiezen
      @MichelvanBiezen  6 років тому +1

      Yes, when you compound monthly you have to divide the annual rate of interest by 12.
