As a long time Peavey fan, I am happy to hear you speak up for a company that was never truly recognized for what they produced.

My first 5 string was a Peavey Dyna Bass. White with black hardware. That was the early 90’s. Miss that bass.😢

I think Peavey gets looked down on because of how they market their products. All their basses are under the same Peavey branding. Their Cirrus basses are really nice but it has the same branding as their cheap basses that come in the starter kits with the mini amp included. This means a lot of people are gonna start with cheap Peavey basses (myself included) and this will form their perception of what the brand is. That's why we have Squier, Epiphone, Sterling, and all these sub brands around so these companies can make lower budget instruments without devaluing their main brand

Dead on. Line 6 suffers from the same branding issue as well

I agree... I noticed in the past few months.... The only thing they have left to offer is starter basses or jump straight up to professional 1000+ professional basses and pa's...
They can't even offer recommendations for replacement or technical support for their vintage basses or guitars anymore... I tried, with my Dyna-Bass from 85... They can't offer any help anymore. I fear Peavey is going to be a name in the musical instrument history books for being the underdog that drove innovation and done it well... Until their demise.

In 1995 I bought a bran new Peavey Foundation 5 in bright red color and maple fingerboard. I giged with it in a country band for about 2 years and it served me well. I sold it in the late 90's but I think about it occasionally. Great and sturdy bass.

I have one but I don’t gig with it. It just doesn’t move air Johnny. It’s just not pumping. I love the neck. It plays so nice. I’m thinking of putting in a Stellartone ToneStyler pot. Ever heard of those? There’s some videos about it. I have a Dyna Unity with PJ pickups and a 4 string Foundation with Ferrite pickups and those two are booty slayers.

Its nice to see some Peavey basses from time to time. Here in Germany you see verry few of them.
I allways liked their amps, have a TMax for 20 years now I bought together with a SWR 212" cab for a steal. I gave the rig to a friend of mine who wanted to start again with playing bass. And I still am in love with the Vb3 all tube bass amp I bought used 5 years ago. Its a beast that eats SVT's for breakfast. And it is 44 lbs, not too much for an all tube amp with 300 Watts. My Ampeg V4b is about the same weight, with 100 Watts.

I think Peavey has suffered from an image that they produced inexpensive gear and therefore it must have been lower quality. An absurd assumption. My 1st bass amps back int the day and all I used from 79-1990 was Peavey amplifiers. Gigged them all relentlessly and NEVER had a failure, the reputation as bullet proof is well deserved. They sounded better than just good and were affordable. In 86 I bought a Foundation S new. I tried all the new Ibanez basses at the time and all the new Fenders. The Peavey was easily the best built and sounding bass, it was US built AND Cheaper to boot! I still have and play this bass now. It was the only one I kept when I quit playing for 20 years. I recently bought a Peavey G Bass a GV Bass and A Millennium Plus 4. These are amazing basses and I got them in the case for 500 or less! For those that don't know the G and GV have Graphite Necks! Where else can you find a used, US built Bass with a Graphite neck for under 500.00? Any US built Peavey is an exceptional value either the early 80's models or the later ones. I highly recommend them to anyone that is not worried about what the headstock says. It is a shame they no longer build basses in the states. but I should back up and say I also have an import Millennium 5 string that is a much better instrument than the paltry 180.00 it cost me.

Well Well SHADDA KAKA to you Mr. J.L. , All I can say is that I'm at a loss for words right now 😁 because I'm watching your video of the Peavey foundation bass ( 5string)and I'm sitting right next
to mine right now only difference mine has the small bar at the headstock and that has that round knob with the strings attached to it but anyways thanks for the great reviews and comments on the bass I've had mine since 08 bought it at a pawn shop had it flipped to be played left handed and having a set of Ernie Ball slinky's on it been jamming till the lights go out thanks again same color / maple neck 2💪💪🎸✌

I used to own the Dina Bass five. It had a nice jazz bass tone to it, played it for ten years.

I just acquired one of these basses! Now I know exactly what to do with it - got a PTE ordered and en route. Considering putting in another potentiometer so that I can add the tone monster circuit and keep the tone control as well. Great video you are just killing it with the excellent bass sounds here thanks a lot

Mr. Long do you know that as soon as you start playing you put on " Stank Face " That getting right into the groove.
Speaking of Peavey. I played a gig where we were told don't bring our amps. They would be provided. I was given a 4 10 over 18. With a vintage Peavey head. What a rig. Big place. My bass filled the room easily.

Hey! You should try out a Peavey Grind bass. I have a 4-string that I've had for years a 5-string that I picked up a little less than a year ago. In the $400-$600 range but man is it a passive beast! A quality instrument for a great price. Love your videos btw, they always make me smile with your fantastic attitude, and I both respect and appreciate your skill and knowledge. :)

I have a 4 string Foundation like that one. back in the mid 80s I was learning on an old bass and a guy that was helping me let me pick on a brand new red Foundation. Ever since then it has been one of my bucket list items (atleast its a fairly affordable item). I said one of these days I would own one. I found the one I have at a guitar shop in NW GA. Picked it up for $250 all original early- mod 90s best I can tell. Plays great. I would like to change the potsout and put in one of the tone selectors like that. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks

johnny long it’s like 60 cycle hum/hiss but instead of the volume knobs for each pickup doing it, it’s the tone knob that causes it.
