The first bass I ever bought with my own money is my Walnut Cirrus 4 for $700 in the summer of 2010. I will never sell it. Through good times and bad, roundwounds and flats, it has been there for me.

This is the best gear review channel for bass players on UA-cam right now
Alot of other 'reviewers' are basically just advertising the bass theyre covering. I actually trust this channel to make an unbiased assessment on the price to quality to value ratio. Keel up the great work!

When I was about 14 I was gifted a cirrus custom shop. After playing a t40 for about 2 years. I’m now 30, and it’s been on all gigs, played in all churches I’ve played at. I’ve been wanting to replace it with a new bass, but I haven’t been able to find something comparable or better for under 1500 new. This has been such an amazing instrument to play, and it’ll go with me once again to an audition with a new church. Can’t wait to redial a new tone that fits me. You’re able to get soooooooooooooo many different tones with the later models which is what I have. Great all around bass. Took it to guitar center and they offered me 225 for it. No blemishes, nothing missing. I walked away laughing to say the least.

I gotta say, I'm incredibly impressed with your review - more than I am with the awesome-sounding bass. You actually play the same riff, the same way when demoing each variation, so we can get an accurate idea of what the actual bass sounds like, rather than trying to figure out if it's the way you're playing or the groove itself that's making the difference in sound. Very intelligent and well thought-out presentation. You got me subbed + liked.

I've had I think 7 including a custom shop of these and they are all I used to play. The necks are reinforced and the mid sweep control first appeared on the upper end millennium series and were used on the custom shop series Cirrus. I still have a brand new Peavey pre-amp with the mid sweep, I put them in any Cirrus I bought that did not have one which were most. There were two body styles in this American series, one was a little wider top to bottom and the necks never had a gloss finish. Some models only had a oil finish throughout and were my favorites.
There was an Indonesian series labeled BXP which lacked many of the features of the American builds. Peavey reintroduced this US like model that was made over seas that mimicked the American model just a few years ago but only had them for a short couple of years...
Many of the newer American Cirrus from the original series (like the one in the video) had Hipshot tuners.

The Cirrus was basically Peavey's take on a boutique, modern-voiced bass. They kind of existed in the same class as Carvin's LB series or one of Yamaha's or Ibanez's higher-end models. Great instruments, no doubt.
I've come across a few TL-5s over the years and came close to getting one a few times but never committed. Maybe one day! As another missed Peavey opportunity story, I once came across a VB-MA at a music store and they were going to sell it to me brand new for cheaper than what they were going for used on Reverb. I wasn't gigging at the moment and couldn't justify another tube amp in the collection, so I didn't take them up on the offer. But still, it was a crazy deal. That may have been about the time Peavey was discontinuing the amp and maybe the store was just trying to move stock to get the space.

I have this exact same cirrus bass. Mine is a late 1999 model. Same color Red Wood. USA Made Peavey equipment just can’t be beat. I also have a 4 String USA made Dyna Unity Bass which is also a great bass! The Dyna has the 8 volt preamp with the passive and active select switch and 3 band eq. Build quality on these US peavey instruments is rock solid and very comfortable to play with awesome tones. Once Peavey quit manufacturing in Meridian Mississippi, they started manufacturing overseas. Thats why there the Indonesian version of the Cirrus bass. But quality and sound is nothing like the US made basses.

I am pretty sure the variable mids were always an option, and not standard on the Cirrus. They were standard on the active USA Millenniums. The variable mid circuit was very powerful. A little would go a very long ways.
Supposedly, Peavey was to begin production of Cirrus basses in the Czech Republic before the pandemic. If this ever happens it will be great considering how good Czech Spectors are.

Prob the best low B string punch I've ever played and perfectly rounded. Several years ago I bought one of the bolt on versions and it wasnt good at all. I think Peavey ALWAYS got it right when it came to their USA basses. From the Foundation, Dyna, to the RJIV, Axcelerator, and on and on. Just epic basses that blow away Fender quality and pricing.

Cue Cirrus prices rising after this😆. I have its brother the G-V, same pickups and preamp, same body and neck shapes. These basses are very ergonomic, body and neck very confy. Peavey knew what they were doing.

I have a TL5 but a friend of mine has a Cirrus5 from this era that I have played a few times and he keeps offering it to me. I already have three five strings. But after this video I will have to make it 4 as the Tl5 has some flaws but I love it. And I have repaired everything it needed so I really rocks now. Update: I put a deposit on it two days ago.

Ahhh yes, the bass you beat me to by a few minutes! 🤬Grrrrrrr!!
Anyways... I believe the fretboards on these were Pau Ferro, at least my two Cirrus 6ers (Redwood and Bubinga) were. Enjoy it my friend!
Also, back when these were still available at Peavey dealers, they were calling them the poor man’s Ken Smith, probably due to looks more than construction. But, I look forward to your MTD comparison.

Had to sell my Cirrus 4. Looked exactly like this one. It sounded amazing - but as a smaller guy I found this bass cumbersome to play. Plus I seem to recall it was heavy. If you;re a big guy however I'm sure it is a killer bass.
