    Jason is playing an A harp
    i recommend getting a solid two draw bend before you even try three draw. The two draw bend is vital for good cross harp (2nd pos)
    important to understand also is that, every half step is a note. the third draw can be bent 1.5 steps, thus you can play 4 distinct notes on the three draw. The two draw can be bent 1 step, thus allowing for 3 possible notes.

    Jason I have only been introduced to your music recently, and I've been blown away by your expertise and your willingness to share your expertise. My musical expertise has been in a plateau for a long time, but you have have inspired me to take into another level. I always had the killer album collection in the background to learn from, but I lost my inspiration. I'm grateful for the education, I would never figure this stuff out on my own. Jake

    Not sure you'll see this but...first of all, very helpful video...thank you! I thought that in 3rd position, the 7-draw is a root note. At the end of your video you say "just learn your blues scale up there," which ends on the 8 draw. Sorry for my confusion... hope you see this! - Dave

    Hey I use crappy old tuners like "Korg" etc...they work good enough for me...You can get a great tuner like a Peterson strobe tuner...which you can now DOWNLOAD a digital version of! those work better obviously...but any cheap 10 dollar tuner with a microphone will work.
    Thanks

    Try using a T sound at first...if all fails look up adjusting action/offset on the reed...could be the harp...

    In third pos. it is the two not the major or the minor really just the two and it's part of many minor scales (Dorian, Harmonic minor, aeolian are three off the top of my head...Try those.

    I'd like to ask you a related question about playing fifth position. I hit on using fifth position for Hound Dog Taylor's "See Me In The Evening" mainly because I don't have an F# for second position or a B for third. I think this sounds kind of cool and my (limited) understanding of fifth position is that you start on the second hole blow which I think works here. My question is what other notes fit - I may be using them or some of them but it would be nice to know. Thanks Rich G

    So if I have a C harp the band is playing in Dm or D major??? I was told 3rd position is for minor key songs. I’m so confused because the chart on the back of the Hohner box says 3rd position is a whole step below, so Bb for a C harp. Then again the
    same chart says 2nd position is F for a C harp.
    I also can’t get the 3 bend anymore than a whole step but I imagine it’s cause I’m new
    I’m so confused

    • @jasonricci
      @jasonricci  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes you're right! 3rd Position is a harp a whole step below the key of the song and it can be for minor OR major playing despite what most people say. 2nd Position in 4 whole steps up "C" for example: c, d, e, "F" harp !

    I think I play in 3rd position over the V chord 'simply because of the turnarounds I've learned, but I've never considered using it over the I chord. If you start a song using 3rd position over the I chord, what do you do when you get to the IV and V? Or can you simply use the 3rd position blues scale over a whole progression, as long as it's in a minor key?
