- I joined a group of swimmers for a 1.5 mile swim down to Southsea Pier to kick off the Stop the Sewage Southsea protest. After the swim, there were speeches on the beach and a festival (protestival) at in a nearby park. The group have been active for a year and are engaged with Southern Water with the ultimate aim of stopping raw sewage releases into the sea. #sewage #rawsewage

Music at the Protestival was provided by the Pompey Pluckers, Janet Ayers Mazzy Dee and Alex Benwell.
Drone footage by CP Quinn
Filmed on a GoPro Hero 7 and 10, edited on Lumafusion app on an iPad.

See you in the water soon.
Two things that I admire: 1) All the swimmers, kayakers, water lovers and concerned citizens raising their voices to put an end to such a disgusting, out-dated practice of dumping raw sewage into the waterways. Good on all of you! 2) I’m in awe of you Rachel, swimming heads-up breaststroke in a wetsuit for 1.5 miles!! That’s surely an accomplishment in itself. Thanks for sharing this protest event with us here on your channel. WoW… is that a beautiful beach and such lovely water!! It is well worth saving!! 💦🌎Ⓜary🏊♀
Hi Mary
I was my first time swimming here and it was loveky. I chose the wetsuit gievn I've not been able to do much this year, but knew as soon as I started I'd made a mistake, it was so tiring doing breaststroke in it - usually I'd be swimming crawl. I hope that the protest got the attention it deserves locally. It was on the regional news programmes and there were local reporters there too. Here's hoping the waters can become fully clean again in the near future. 🏊🚽💦🚫
Fantastic…. I hope the protest was heard and taken notice of by the right people!
It made the regional news on both the BBC and ITV and some local new outlets were there too, so I hope they turned the volume up a bit for the group
Just great Rachel well done to everyone. 👏👏👏
Thank you Andrew
Great content as always thanks for sharing your adventures with us 🙃
Thanks for watching, I'm pleased you enjoyed it. Rach :)
Great movement. Good on you👍
Thanks, I was pleased to be able to lend some support to the small but effective team who are making the noise. I'll be back for a progress report when the digital signs go in 🏊😀
well done you! Always positive
Thanks for watching!
Well done to all the protesters!
Thanks, it was hard going swimming breaststroke in a wetsuit!
Really great 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for watching!
Admirable. And good luck for the fight. Luckily in Germany sewage and water is handled by the municipalities and they have stopped to dump raw sewage a long time ago.. So water quality in rivers has improved a lot in the past twenty or so years. It still isn't as good as it could be due to run off from agriculture. There are far too many nitrates and phosphate in many lakes and rivers. And of course plastic and other rubbish is left everywhere, too.
I'm pleased to hear that sweage is properly treated in Germany, but sad that the world over we face the same problems with argicultural run-off and micro plastics. I hope the situation improves in the UK soon
@@EverydayAthleteRach Yes, let's hope. But we'll all have to do a bit more than that, like you do.
Well done guys amazing work, op south sea is local to me I’m in Chichester how does one go about getting involved with these kind of swims/events
Hi Matt, Stop the Sewage Southsea has an active Facebook page which has the events on it. I think that's the best place to start. The more the louder!
I thought I saw you there Rachel! I didnt realise you were in the water with us. Would have said hi given a chance
Kirsty and I were bringing up the rear from Eastney. Would have been nice to meet you!
@@EverydayAthleteRach we joined at our normal start point at the coffee cup. Afterwards thought should have joined at the far end.
A really good way of reminding how our waters are being impacted.
@@waresy81 absolutely. I’d never swim there before so had no idea what was involved! Good swoosh tho!
