early morning swim in Rutland Water

- I was lucky enough to wake up on the shores of Rutland Water so took advantage with an early morning swim. My dip was in the shadow of the iconic Normanton church. Bit of a suspicious person came mooching over but thankfully not near my clothes bag!
Filmed on a GoPro Hero 12, a Hero 10 and a Hero 7 and edited on ipad using Lumafusion app.

Amazing. Nice spot. Laughed at the comment from another viewer about a tattoo. 😂😂
It was a cool swim spot, I've been eyeing it up when working in the area for a few year, so snatched the opportunity when it came by! No tattoo, but could see what Mary was saying! Haha! Hope you're well x
That looked like a peaceful dip, just wish I was better at waking up early! Thanks for sharing
I have always been pretty good at getting up early especially if there’s something to do so for. A dip before work did it for me on this occasion. Also was hoping for a sunrise!
Rachel, that church right on the water… what a stunning spot!! I’ve never seen anything like it before. Also, now don’t laugh… but at 4:50 I thought you were perhaps revealing a new chest tattoo, then I realized it was the needly branches from a small tree that you were standing behind. Your swim looked relaxing and invigorating!! I love the old glass in the windows of that church… such character!! I just wanted to let you know, I have not forsaken you nor your channel… I am taking some post-graduate online courses and it’s been 37 years since I last attended university. YOWZA!! Everything has changed during the past almost-four decades. When I last went to university it was lecture halls, blackboards, typewriters, and microfiche. Computers and the internet have certainly changed academia. Of course, everybody in my course is less than half my age and extremely tech savvy. It is a vertiginous learning curve for me!!! With that said, my free time is next to nil, but I will always make time for all things wild swimming. The weather here is unseasonably mild and we did not get much snow this winter. You know what that means? YUP, the lakes should be open sooner than usual. Thanks for sharing your lovely swim and that beautiful church with us today. Ⓜary🏊♀💦
Hey Mary, no tattoo to report, but I can see what you mean and you set @muddyboots2531 off chuckling too. Good on you doing some more studying, that must be a real shock to the system. Great to hear the water willl be swimmable earlier than usual, and hope you can find time for a little float about x
Lovely to see you back. Bloomin’ intrepid woman!
Loved that cheeky little trip. Got a couple more up my sleeve over the next few weeks 🏊♀️😁
Thank you Rachel. I've had to miss my swim this week because I've come down with a flu type bug. Me and my swim buddy have swum at least once a week every week this year so far. We ended last year with a santa hat swim on Christmas day and started the year with a sunrise swim on new years day. We have also discovered a wonderful woodfired sauna with plunge pool only a forty minute drive away and been twice already this year. I'm also still ticking off the blue tonic challenges. It has been so important in keeping my mental and physical health in a better place. Your pre breakfast swim looked fabulous 👌 💙💦
It was a lovely spot. I do enjoy a sauna. Lucky you finding a wood fired one!
@EverydayAthleteRach it's fabulous. If you're in the North Wales area check out The Secret Sauna and Penguin Pool! 🐧 xx
Love your work! Many locals still deem it unsafe so thank you for dispelling misinformation!
My pleasure! Hope to empower people to get in and enjoy the water!
Love Rutland water. Spent many days there windsurfing and sailing. Also got hyperthermia once winds changed from F2 to F5 in a few minutes..not funny on my board! Lived to tell the tale.
Your swim looked magnificent!
It was amazing. Fantastic to see Normanton Church up close. What a body of water to play on/in! 🏊♀️😀
Awww....lovely Rachel...It calmed me right down...listening to the birds and watching you dipping. Great to see you faffing too lol...
Great dip and location
By the way, what water proof watch have you got please X ❤
Glad you enjoyed it! It was a beautiful swim under a murky sky. I use a Garmin Fenix 6s.
Rutland Water quite close to where I live in Leicester. I love it there. There are a couple of submerged villages underneath! Massive environmental project way back. I've stayed at that hotel too! Thank you Rachel
It’s a super location and I’ll be back again!
@@EverydayAthleteRach if you so maybe I could join you!
What a tranquil spot- hope there was a nice hot breakfast when you got back?!
It was! Hot shower, cooked breakfast and at work for 0830!
Hi Rachel hope you ok ,not seen any of your vlogs ,expect you busy, watched country file tonight and guess what Rutland water was on and the church where you had your fresh cold swim, look forward to more vlogs ,I had nice swim at our lake today 10 degrees now .take care.👍
Hi Chris, thanks for checking in. As it happens I have a new video out tomorrow 😀
Oh that’s good news ,your vlogs are so interesting, and great information on different aspects on wild swimming, in different places of the country thanks .👍
You’ve not uploaded a video for a few weeks Rachel. I do hope you’re ok? Hugs 🤗
Thanks for asking Katy. I’m still not back to full health and fitness so haven’t been able to do much. However, should have a couple coming up soon x
@@EverydayAthleteRach Ooh exciting! I do love your videos! I’m so sorry you’re still not too well. You’ve definitely been unlucky. Hugs 🤗
Hi Rachel looks amazing seemed fresh, nice swim for you and clear ,and the church looked amazing, great vlog as usual.Chris 👍
Thanks for watching Chris, it was a lovely way to start the day.
😂 😂Cold armpits? Insidious creep beneath the boobs? chilly 'bits'? Us chaps get the full monty from square one... wearing just speedos gives us no torso protection and 'exo-bits' suffer badly too!
Being landlocked, a warm sea-swim is not an option, & the smaller the pond, the colder they seem🥶. Gr8 vid.
Hehehe! Next time I’ll note that I don’t know how men get in the water due to the speed of freezing! Enjoy the water!
Hi Rachel - I think I first found you a few years ago. Since then we've been swimming year round practicing the 'umbles' and getting (somewhat) more proficient at getting back into our clothes. Now did I understand you correctly here that you are wearing your 'streaking costume' under your coat?? What a revelation! Also - I was encourage to try swimming a mile, referred to in some circles as an ice mile. I was successful but was whisked off to the hospital just for observation as I was mightily cold. Thanks so much again for sharing your joy of the chilly dips. I think I rather prefer the experience rather than the challenge of endurance. xoxo
I referred to it as a streaker suit as no changing had occurred underneath! Just streaking. Well done on the ice mile. What an achievement with so much training! I like all kinds of being in the water I like a skinny dip, a skins swim and wetsuit adventures. Just love being in the water. Thanks for joining me x
How lovely to see a video from you. I’ve missed your posts. So happy that you’re better and back in the water Rachel!
Thank you so much! It's great to be in and floating about, albeit slowly.
Wish I'd have known Rachel I'd have come and joined you, I'm not too far away. Looked beautiful despite the lack of sun. If you are in the area again, I'll take you to Stoney Cove - there's really not that many places to go in this part of the world.x
I’ve heard of Stony Cove but have yet to visit, so that would be cool!
Another fantastic swimming adventure ! Love it
It was a nice little pre-work wake up!
I still don't understand how you film - and swim - so steadily, while holding a camera.
😄 thanks. I guess it’s practice. 🏊♀️😀
Ive swam there its actually one of the largest reservoir in the uk
Yes, it’s a magnificent body of water.
your so much braver than me !
Na, not when you solo campervan thru France!
Beautiful place for a swim.
It was stunning!
Regarding eating after a cold water swim, should you wait until your body is back to not feeling cold? I thought that while your body is working on warming up after the cold swim, you don’t want to disturb the process adding the digestion process. Please let me know your experiences, good and bad, recommendations, etc., eating after cold water swimming. Thank you.
I’ve had no issues. It was probably 40 mins between getting out, walking back, showering and breakkie. Even swimming an having breakfast on the beach I’ve had no issues. When dipping I stay in for 10 mins or less to stay safe.
@ealban0215 I always have a hot drink and a snack as soon as I get out of the water and never had any issues. If anything I feel it helps to warm up 😊
The best way to warm up is a brisk walk back to your car (parked further away just for this purpose) or home. Then eat!
what's the water's temperature?!
Around 7 or 8 degrees
Hi Rachel, have you moved up north for good ?
No, my job just has me visiting a lot of places at this time of year.
